Nesta pesquisa, temos por objeto de estudo o envolvimento interpessoal. Buscamos descrever um conjunto de opções linguísticas que constitui uma atividade interativa e que tenham por finalidade gerenciar o contato com o leitor. Nosso objetivo é analisar o papel do envolvimento e delinear sua rede de recursos na construção das relações interpessoais. Para tanto, investigamos textos produzidos no âmbito da interação midiática, em particular em revistas de nicho, uma vez que favorecem a particularidade da relação com o público alvo, empregando em suas publicações estratégias para criar afinidade e identificação com o mercado consumidor, além de investir na atratividade dos textos. Selecionamos como corpus um espaço interativo composto por cartas de leitores e respostas das revistas às perguntas enviadas no caso, por homens adultos, mulheres adultas e mulheres adolescentes , que constituem os textos das seções Pergunte à Vizinha e Pergunte ao Beto, o Barman (revista Mens Health), Pergunte ao Amigo Gay e Pergunte ao Vizinho (revista Womens Health) e Arrasa! Ficadas e rolos (revista Atrevida). Por oferecer soluções sucintas para situaçõesproblema do cotidiano, tais seções caracterizam-se como prática discursiva de aconselhamento, e, para analisá-las, respaldamo-nos na abordagem sistêmico-funcional, com foco na metafunção interpessoal, a fim de depreender os recursos responsáveis pela construção do envolvimento, complementando com estudos a respeito do que ocorre na dinâmica da interação, para verificar de que maneira são efetivados a solidariedade e o estreitamento dos vínculos entre revista de nicho e leitor. Particularmente, fundamentamo-nos na concepção e nas categorias propostas por Gonçalves Segundo (2011), e, em diálogo com essa perspectiva, a partir da análise do corpus, pudemos ampliar a rede de opções linguísticas que constroem vínculos e buscam atrair a atenção dos leitores. Os resultados da investigação apontam variadas opções paradigmáticas que desempenham a função de tracionar e atrair o leitor e que formam a rede de envolvimento, bem como revelam o papel de relevância dos recursos dessa rede na prática de conselhos em revistas de nicho, por possibilitar que efeitos de empatia sejam neles insculpidos, sinalizando padrões interpessoais que enfatizam o gerenciamento interativo. / This research aims to study the interpersonal involvement. We seek to describe a set of linguistic options that constitutes an interactive activity and whose purpose is to manage the contact with the reader. Our objective is analyzing the role of involvement and delineating its network resources in the construction of interpersonal relations. To this end, we investigate texts produced within a mediatic interaction approach, specifically in Brazilian niche magazines, in view of the fact that they foster the relation with the targeted public, embracing in their publications strategies to promote bonding and identification with the consumer market, besides investing in attractiveness of the texts. We have selected as corpus an interactive space formed by letters from readers and replies from the magazines to the questions sent by adult men and women, and teenage girls, which compound the texts of the sections Pergunte à Vizinha and Pergunte ao Beto, o Barman (Mens Health), Pergunte ao Amigo Gay and Pergunte ao Vizinho (Womens Health) and Arrasa! Ficadas e rolos (Atrevida). Since they offer simple solutions for daily-basis problems, those sections are characterized as discursive practice of counselling, and, in order to analyze them we employed the systemic functional approach, focusing on interpersonal metafunction, so as to understand the responsible resources in the construction of involvement, adding studies regarding the dynamics of interaction in order that it is possible to verify solidarity and interpersonal bonds between niche magazine and the reader. Particularly, we are based on the conception and categories proposed by Gonçalves Segundo (2011), and, in dialogue with this perspective, from the analysis of the corpus, it was possible to extend the network linguistic options that build bonds and seek to attract the attention of readers. The results of the investigation suggest a varied number of paradigmatic options which perform the function of traction and attract the reader, build an involvement network, as well as reveal the role of relevance of these network resources in the practice of counselling in niche magazines due to the allowance-insertion of empathy effects, signaling to interpersonal patterns which emphasize the interaction management.

Os estudos acerca dos modos de ação discursiva especialmente, no que se refere aos gêneros discursivos são marcados por uma grande pluralidade de abordagens, que tendem a enfatizar ora a polarização, ora a integração das noções de estabilidade, dinamicidade, produto e processo como princípios fundamentais de sua constituição. Nesta tese por meio de um diálogo entre a Teoria da Estruturação (GIDDENS, 2009), a proposta crítico-discursiva (FAIRCLOUGH, 2007), a Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (HALLIDAY & MATTHIESSEN, 2004) e o conceito de Tradição Discursiva (KABATEK, 2004) , concebe-se e analisa-se a ação discursiva a partir de seus processos de construção, apresentando uma proposta teórico-metodológica calcada em procedimentos quantitativos e qualitativos que enfocam a depreensão de padrões semântico-discursivos de recursos linguísticos socialmente motivados e funcionalmente coesos, orientados em termos teleológicos e negociativos que busca fornecer bases para o exame do embate fundamental, intrínseco às práticas discursivas, entre os processos de estabilização geridos, principalmente, pelas coerções estruturais das distintas esferas dos sistemas sociais, que, por meio de sua deontologia, hierarquizam os padrões preferenciais de recursos linguísticos associados à realização de determinadas teleologias socialmente motivadas e dinamização promovidos pelos atores sociais em relação às instituições e das organizações diante da esfera, em uma atividade negociativa constante que atua na tensão entre padronização e inovação, entre resistência e complacência, entre hegemonia e alternatividade. Nessa perspectiva, tornou-se possível examinar o processo de negociação intersubjetiva empreendido nos editoriais da imprensa paulistana de bairro, o que permitiu depreender tanto suas idiossincrasias institucionais e identitárias, quanto as preferências deontológicas relativas à esfera e aos imperativos de comunicação contemporâneos, associados ao mercado simbólico. Desse modo, pôde-se constatar que a imprensa paulistana de bairro constitui-se em uma esfera multifacetada, cujos editoriais apresentam padrões preferenciais variados de construção discursiva, tanto em termos sintagmáticos quanto paradigmáticos, cumprindo diversas teleologias centrais criticar, exortar, exaltar e informar , de modo a perpassar múltiplas estratégias de construção de autoridade, credibilidade, intimidade e comprometimento, atualizadas segundo uma combinatória complexa de recursos interpessoais de avaliatividade, envolvimento e exortatividade. / The studies about the discursive ways of acting specially, the ones which focus the notion of genre are marked by a vast plurality of approaches, stressing either the polarization, either the integration of the notions of stability, dynamicity, product and process as fundamental principles of their constitution. This thesis through a convergence between the Structuration Theory (GIDDENS, 2009), the critical discursive approach (FAIRCLOUGH, 2007), the Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY & MATTHIESSEN, 2004) and the concept of Discourse Tradition (KABATEK, 2004) conceives and analyzes the discursive action considering its process of construction, proposing a methodological and theoretical approach based on quantitative and qualitative procedures that emphasize the detection of discursivesemantic patterns of socially motivated and functionally cohesive linguistic resources, oriented in terms of teleology and intersubjective negotiation which aims to provide basis for the investigation of the fundamental conflict between processes of stability governed, mainly, by the structural coercions of distinct fields in the social systems, which, by means of their deontology, hierarchize the preferential patterns of linguistic resources associated with the execution of certain socially motivated functionalities and dynamicity promoted by social actors in interaction with institutions and by organizations towards their fields of activity, in a constant negotiative development that operates in the tension between standardization and innovation, resistance and compliance, hegemony and alternativity. Thus, it became possible to examine the process of intersubjective negotiation undertaken in São Paulo citys local press editorials, allowing the detection of not only institutional and identificational idiosyncrasies, but also of the deontological preferences associated with the field of activity and the contemporary imperatives of communication, which are intrinsically connected to the developments in the symbolic market. Hence, we could establish that the local press constitute itself as a multifaceted field, with editorials that hold several preferential patterns of discursive construction, encompassing both paradigmatic and syntagmatic compositionality, and fulfill diverse central functionalities criticizing, exhorting, praising and informing , achieved by the actualization of multiple strategies of authority, credibility, intimacy and commitment construal, allowed by a complex combination of interpersonal resources of appraisal, involvement and exhortation.

[pt] Este trabalho investiga a construção da argumentação no discurso jornalístico, tomando por base a teoria sistêmico funcional para análise de recursos linguísticos interpessoais (Halliday, 1994; Butt et al, 1995), bem como a teoria da valoração (Martin, 2000) e estudos sobre argumentação para identificar o uso de estratégias de convencimento e/ou persuasão em artigos de opinião (Ducrot, 1983 apud SILVA e ESPÍNDOLA, 2005; Abreu, 2009). A pesquisa qualitativa desenvolvida sobre esse gênero textual (Marcuschi, 2002) descreve e interpreta o uso de traços léxicogramaticais relacionados à Metafunção Interpessoal, permitindo uma melhor compreensão e avaliação da eficácia dos textos. O posicionamento dos autores dos artigos é também analisado através do gerenciamento da informação, que incide no ato de convencer, ou do gerenciamento da relação, incidindo no ato de persuadir. Para análise, foram selecionados nove artigos de opinião de temas variados, publicados durante o ano de 2010, nos jornais O Globo e Folha de São Paulo, sendo parte dos artigos recolhida da versão impressa e outros da versão digital desses veículos. O trabalho visou à seleção, identificação e análise dos recursos linguísticos que realizam, dentre outros aspectos, a modalidade e a metáfora gramatical interpessoal, passando à interpretação semântica depreendida desses dados. Ao mesmo tempo, em cada texto, verificou-se a incidência do ato de convencer e/ou persuadir a partir de categorias atitudinais de afeto, julgamento ou apreciação. Os resultados da pesquisa revelam que o ato de convencer é mais recorrente na argumentação em artigos de opinião, mostrando que os escritores atuam no campo das ideias do leitor e buscam, na objetividade própria ao discurso jornalístico, diferentes caminhos para falar à razão do outro. Por outro lado, as escolhas léxico-gramaticais mostram que vários recursos interpessoais são utilizados nos textos também com o intuito de persuadir, construindo uma predisposição à solidariedade com o leitor ou permitindo a expressão da opinião do escritor de maneira indefinida ou sutil, tornando difícil ao leitor questionar, refutar ou discordar do autor, que assim desenvolve, com sucesso, a sua argumentação. / [en] This study investigates the construction of argumentation in journalistic discourse, using systemic-functional theory as the basis for the analysis of linguistic interpersonal resources (Halliday, 1994; Butt et al, 1995), as well as appraisal theory (Martin, 2000) and argumentation studies to identify the use of convincing and/or persuading strategies in opinion articles (Ducrot, 1983 apud Silva and Espíndola, 2005; Abreu, 2009). Qualitative research on this textual genre (Marcuschi, 2002) describes and interprets the use of lexico-grammatical aspects related to the Interpersonal Metafunction, aiming at a better understanding and evaluation of the effectiveness of texts. Positioning of the authors of the opinion articles is analyzed either through information management, which is related to the act of convincing, or through relationship management, which is related to the act of persuading. Nine opinion articles on varied themes and published during the year of 2010 in the newspapers O Globo and Folha de São Paulo were selected for analysis. Some of these articles were collected from the online version of the newspapers and others were taken from the printed version of the chosen news media. The study aimed at the selection, identification and analysis of the linguistic resources that realize modality and interpesonal grammatical metaphor, among other aspects; this phase of the analysis was followed by the semantic interpretation of the data. At the same time, in each text, the incidence of the act of convincing and/or persuading was examined, based on the attitudinal categories of affect, judgment or appreciation. Results of the research reveal that the act of convincing is quite recurrent in the argumentation of the analyzed opinion articles, showing that writers appeal to readers minds and ideas and they seek, in the own objectivity to the journalistic discourse, different ways to speak to the reason of their readership. On the other hand, the lexico-grammatical choices also show that several interpersonal resources are used in the texts with the intention of persuading and building a predisposition towards readers’ solidarity. At the same time, these linguistic choices allow for the expression of the writer s opinion in an indefinite or subtle way, making it difficult for readers to question, to refute or to disagree with the authors, who thus guarantee the success of their argumentation.

Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo ressaltar a relevância da utilização do gênero textual carta do leitor nas aulas de Língua Portuguesa como recurso para ampliar a competência textual e argumentativa dos discentes. Visando explorar as características funcionais e estruturais da carta, é possível despertar nos estudantes um conhecimento aplicável aos demais gêneros de tipologia argumentativa e enriquecer, consequentemente, suas observações como leitor, pois o trabalho com a carta promove a análise e a reflexão de seu conteúdo e de seus elementos composicionais. Tendo em vista os princípios da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional, o trabalho foi desenvolvido seguindo os pressupostos das Metafunções da Linguagem (HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2004) e da Teoria da Valoração (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). O corpus analisado é composto de quatro cartas do leitor, avaliadas de forma demonstrativa, e outras vinte e seis, apresentadas com avaliações qualitativas e quantitativas por meio de tabela. Também são utilizados trechos selecionados de outras dez cartas do leitor. O material engloba as trocas interpessoais e as ocorrências de Engajamento, Julgamento e Apreciação. O texto dos autores das cartas foi analisado por meio da identificação de marcas linguísticas de interpessoalidade e, principalmente, de Valoração. Os resultados quantitativos e qualitativos da pesquisa revelam que as cartas são escritas com a finalidade de estabelecer trocas de informações e opiniões acerca de comportamentos humanos e, às vezes, de avaliações estéticas de composição, de reação ou de valor social, em que o posicionamento do autor é revelado por seu Engajamento autoral. Desse modo, verifica-se que o uso das cartas do leitor, em sala de aula, possibilita aos alunos ampliar as competências de exposição de ideias, de interação com o interlocutor e de inserção em diferentes práticas sociais / This research aims to highlight the relevance of using the genre reader's letter in Portuguese classes as a resource to expand the textual and argumentative competence of students. In order to explore the functional and structural characteristics of a letter, it is possible to awaken in students an applicable knowledge to other argumentative type of genres and enrich hence its observations as a reader, since the work with letters promotes the analysis and reflection of its content and its compositional elements. In view of the principles of Systemic Functional Linguistics, this study was conducted following the assumptions of the Language Metafunction (HALLIDAY; MATHIESSEN, 2004) and the Theory of Valuation (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). The analyzed corpus is composed of four readers letters, evaluated demonstratively, and other twenty-six, presented with qualitative and quantitative assessments through table. Ten other selected readers letters excerpts are also used. The material includes interpersonal exchanges and Engagement occurrences, Judgment and Assessment. The text of the authors of the letters was analyzed by identifying linguistic brands, interpersonal skills and especially of Valuation. In addition, other themes are explored, such cuts imposed to the letters that create the letter from the editor, and the importance of textual revision. The quantitative and qualitative results of the research show that the letters are written with the purpose of establishing exchanges of information and opinions on human behaviors and sometimes aesthetic evaluations of composition, reaction or social value, wherein the position of the author is revealed by his authorial Engagement. Thus, it appears that the use of reader's letters, in the classroom, allows students to broaden the exposure of skills of ideas, interaction with the interlocutor and different social practices

Os resultados quantitativos e qualitativos da pesquisa revelam que as cartas são escritas com a finalidade de estabelecer trocas de informações e opiniões acerca de comportamentos humanos e, às vezes, de avaliações estéticas de composição, de reação ou de valor social, em que o posicionamento do autor é revelado por seu Engajamento autoral. Desse modo, verifica-se que o uso das cartas do leitor, em sala de aula, possibilita aos alunos ampliar as competências de exposição de ideias, de interação com o interlocutor e de inserção em diferentes práticas sociais / This research aims to highlight the relevance of using the genre reader's letter in Portuguese classes as a resource to expand the textual and argumentative competence of students. In order to explore the functional and structural characteristics of a letter, it is possible to awaken in students an applicable knowledge to other argumentative type of genres and enrich hence its observations as a reader, since the work with letters promotes the analysis and reflection of its content and its compositional elements. In view of the principles of Systemic Functional Linguistics, this study was conducted following the assumptions of the Language Metafunction (HALLIDAY; MATHIESSEN, 2004) and the Theory of Valuation (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). The analyzed corpus is composed of four readers letters, evaluated demonstratively, and other twenty-six, presented with qualitative and quantitative assessments through table. Ten other selected readers letters excerpts are also used. The material includes interpersonal exchanges and Engagement occurrences, Judgment and Assessment. The text of the authors of the letters was analyzed by identifying linguistic brands, interpersonal skills and especially of Valuation. In addition, other themes are explored, such cuts imposed to the letters that create the letter from the editor, and the importance of textual revision. The quantitative and qualitative results of the research show that the letters are written with the purpose of establishing exchanges of information and opinions on human behaviors and sometimes aesthetic evaluations of composition, reaction or social value, wherein the position of the author is revealed by his authorial Engagement. Thus, it appears that the use of reader's letters, in the classroom, allows students to broaden the exposure of skills of ideas, interaction with the interlocutor and different social practices

In this perspective, the present study aims at analyzing the persuasion which permeates the conversation turns in an interview with the deputy Denise Frossard, on Jô talk show program, with a view to answering the following question: what discursive resources Jô Soares and Denise Frossard mostly employ to persuade their audience in the interview? Considering the dynamics of the realizations of various meaning combinations which this analysis implies, my study has an eclectic theoretical support, including Fowler (1991), based on Critical Discourse Analysis, and theories complementing the Systemic-Functional Linguistics, particularly the interpersonal metafunction. In so being, I make use of these persuasive notions which help me understand both explicit and implicit persuasion that pervade the interview interloctions, according to the following elements: dialogism (Bakhtin, 1981); frame and footing (Goffman, 1981), smuggling information (Luchjenbroers e Aldridge, 2007); directed information (Coffin e O Halloran, 2006), notions of cryptic-argumentation (Kitis e Milapides, 1996) and finally Analysis of Conversation (Eggins e Slade, 1997), which sheds light on the existing phenomena in the conversation turns. The data showed that amongst the occurrent persuasive elements, the implicit ones are the most frequent in the speech of the interlocutors. However, the host resorts to a discourse apparently friendly and capable of facilitating the exposure of the interviewee s opinion. The interviewee in most of her turns use monoglossic utterances / É pequeno o número de trabalhos sobre entrevistas em talk show e a abordagem desse gênero sofre carência de pesquisas no Brasil. Nessa perspectiva, o presente estudo objetiva analisar a persuasão que percorre os turnos conversacionais, na entrevista realizada com a deputada Denise Frossard, no talk show Programa do Jô, e deve responder à seguinte pergunta: que recursos discursivos são mais utilizados por Jô Soares e por Denise Frossard, visando a persuadir seu interlocutor na entrevista? Para abranger a dinâmica da realização da conjunção de significados diversos que essa análise implica, meu estudo tem um suporte teórico eclético , na esteira de Fowler (1991), com base na Análise Crítica do Discurso, formado por teorias que complementam a proposta da Lingüística Sistêmico-Funcional, em especial, no que diz respeito à metafunção interpessoal dessa teoria. Assim, apóiome em noções discursivas que ajudam a compreender a persuasão, por meios explícitos e implícitos, que entremeiam as interlocuções da entrevista, conforme os seguintes elementos: o dialogismo (Bakhtin, 1981); o frame e o alinhamento (Goffman, 1981); a inserção sub-reptícia de informação (Luchjenbroers e Aldridge, 2007); a informação direcionada (Coffin e O Halloran, 2006), e a noção de criptoargumentação (Kitis e Milapides, 1996) e, finalmente, à Análise da Conversação (Eggins e Slade, 1997), que esclarece fenômenos ocorrentes nos turnos conversacionais. Os dados permitiram apurar que, dentre os elementos persuasivos ocorrentes, os implícitos são os mais freqüentes na fala dos interactantes. Contudo, o apresentador recorre a um discurso aparentemente amigável e facilitador para que a entrevistada exponha a sua opinião. This study attempts to answer three questions regarding how health warnings that adorn Swedish cigarette packages affects the consumer on a grammatical and a semiotic level. To investigate this, the health warnings has been analysed in order to identify the grammatical and semiotic components impact on the coniditons for the messages to influence the recipicent. By examining two different designs of health warnings from the tobacco directive from 2014 and 2016, and to take part in a focus groups opinions, this study revealed different factors that enable or limit the consumer to perceive and embrace that which is conveyed in these specific health warnings.

This study is intended to shed light on similarities and differences in terms of functional structure of the clause when modality is expressed by use of modal operators in Russian and English, in order to arrive at findings which inform, and are applicable to, the process of English language acquisition by the Russian learner. The need for the investigation was prompted by the author’s work experience in the field of English teaching, and the lack of explicit guidance in available textbooks currently used in Russian schools and institutions with regard to the particular issue highlighted. While learning the subject of Systemic Functional Linguistics, I drew parallels between the functional structures in the two languages, the purpose of which is to provide a roadmap which facilitates the learning and teaching of English modality to the Russian learner. The approach of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), focusing on the metafunctions as the correspondence in the sociolinguistic message of the clause, is used as a basis for comparing the functional structures in both languages. The investigation of functional grammar features is carried out in order to spotlight  both the similarities and the differences inherent in expressing a degree of probability of an event or statement indicated, not only by the choice of an appropriate modal verb, but also its placement within the clause. The role of the social context in which the text is set is noted as significant for delivering the precise meaning of the message. Hence, the proposition will be pursued through further investigation in the field of modality, and viewed from perspectives of sociolinguistics.
