\"Cego é aquele que só vê a bola\". O futebol em São Paulo e a formação das principais equipes paulistanas: S.C. Corinthians Paulista, S. E. Palmeiras e São Paulo F.C. (1894-1942) / \"Blind is the one who only sees the ball\". Football in São Paulo and the formation of the major teams from São Paulo: S. C. Corinthians Paulista, S. E. Palmeiras and São Paulo F. C. (1894-1942)

João Paulo França Streapco 19 January 2011 (has links)
In recent years, many studies on the practice of football in Brazil have been carried out in different areas of knowledge. Understood as a broad-ranging social phenomenon, football which was once despised by intellectuals and academia has become a privileged source for the study of many interconnected social phenomena. Despite the development of said studies, many documentary sources produced in the world of football throughout the twentieth century still have not been systematically assessed. Hence, because this study is part of context of historiographical renewal referred to as New Cultural History, its objective is to further understand certain aspects of the São Paulo society present in the main football fields, teams and stadiums with respect to the period subject matter hereof (1894 1942). The establishment of a group of practitioners and supporters, together with government intervention, the construction of fields and stadiums, the emergence of three major football clubs in the city, disputes over control of revenues generated by the sport itself and its gradual pathway towards becoming increasingly professional reveal to be excellent documentary sources for better understanding the complexity of the modernization process that took pplace in São Paulo and the consequences thereof for its citizens during the period covered in this study.

Snart kommer jultomten...! Eller? : En studie om hur förskollärares tankar och reflektioner går kring arbetet med högtider och traditioner i förskolan / Santa will be here soon...! Right? : A study of preschool pedagogues' thoughts and reflections about the work of festivals and traditions in a preschool context

Arian, Ann, Nilsson, Anna January 2017 (has links)
In this study, we explore six preschool pedagogues’ experiences regarding the celebrations of cultural and religious festivals and traditions, and how this is noted in their respective preschool settings. The purpose of this critical study is to make educators aware of how children’s ethnic and cultural diversity is reflected in the preschool’s attention or lack of attention to different festivals and traditions. The study is based on interviews conducted with six randomly selected preschool pedagogues from six different preschools from different parts of Sweden. Three of the preschool peda-gogues interviewed worked at “monocultural” preschools while the other three worked at what they considered as “multicultural” preschools. The results of the study are, that regardless of how the composition of the children’s group appeared, the preschool pedagogues’ reflections on their own situated experiences reveal the extent to which the festivals and traditions cele-brated are so-called Swedish and Christian. The festivals and traditions celebrated are e.g. Easter, Midsummer, Lucia and Christmas. Celebrations and traditions of a decent other than Swedish are not recognized in the same way. Theoretically, this study is based on Sara Ahmed’s ideas surrounding ‘the hegemony of white-ness’ and the ‘phenomenology of whiteness’. For us, this important critical and theoretical re-source opens for future questions about how well established the white hegemony is in our Swedish preschool.

WSÁNEĆ law and the fuel spill at Goldstream

Clifford, Robert Justin 02 September 2014 (has links)
This thesis examines a fuel spill at Goldstream River, on Coast and Straights Salish People’s territory, on southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Goldstream is an important salmon spawning and fishing location for the WSÁNEĆ (Saanich) people. In this thesis I step beyond the confines of the common law and its associated narratives and examine the fuel spill through the lens of WSÁNEĆ culture and legal order. In doing so I seek to open nascent possibilities and understandings relating to the fuel spill, its associated harms, and the implications this has for a legal response. My approach is rooted in the field of Indigenous law. In contributing broadly to the revitalization and resurgence of Indigenous law, including its theoretical and methodological aspects, I strengthen my claim that WSÁNEĆ law offers an important legal response to the Goldstream spill. My approach, however, extends beyond the field of Indigenous law. It also draws insights from the fields of postcolonial theory and resurgence theory. Postcolonial theory aids in understanding the processes and power structures that silence and subordinate Indigenous systems of law. The effective revitalization of Indigenous law draws from these understandings. My emphasis, however, does not rest squarely on critique. I argue that colonial power structures are best mitigated and subverted by applying Indigenous narratives, including Indigenous systems of law. I draw on resurgence theory to highlight the empowering effects of strengthening Indigenous narratives and for transforming relationships between Indigenous peoples and the Canadian state. In applying this theoretical framework I argue that WSÁNEĆ law provides an alternative lens through which to address the Goldstream spill. Through attention to WSÁNEĆ stories and the SENĆOŦEN language (the language of the WSÁNEĆ people) I open a narrative of WSÁNEĆ law that provides a distinct normative framework regarding our responsibilities to one another and to the Earth. The benefits of such an approach are far reaching in scope. They reconceptualise foundational assumptions relating to the nature of the harm, as well as the notion jurisdiction. My narrative moves from thinking and acting with authority over the environment, to having mutual responsibilities in relation to ecology. The scope and contributions of Indigenous law should not be overlooked. To do so is to limit the potential for Indigenous/non-Indigenous reconciliation, as well as the healthy functioning of Indigenous legal orders. / Graduate

Remedios de mi tierra: An Oral History Project on the Changes and Continuity of the Traditional Healing Knowledge and Practices of a Mexican Immigrant Mother from Guanajuato, Mexico

Saldana Perez, Joel Angel, Saldana Perez, Joel Angel January 2017 (has links)
This thesis looks at the impact of migration and place on the traditional healing knowledge and practices of a Mexican immigrant mother from Guanajuato, Mexico: Sofia Perez. Through the use of oral history methodology and the application of the Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Wisdom (TEKW) model and the Social Ecological Model (SEM) to analyze the narratives, this study looks at the origin of Sofia's healing knowledge and practices and at how she has managed to keep these traditions alive despite migrating to the United States and living in a society that may not believe in the efficacy of these healing traditions. The application of the Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Wisdom (TEKW) model provided insight into the healing traditions of Sofia's home community and the ways in which these were learned, practiced, and preserved and proved useful in looking at how this was done by Sofia before and after migrating. Next, the Social Ecological Model (SEM) proved useful in looking at how place and its various social, cultural, and ecological aspects have influenced Sofia's use of traditional medicine since she migrated. Overall, Sofia's knowledge and practices have been impacted by migration and place; however, she continues to practice these traditions as best as she can.

kihcitwâw kîkway meskocipayiwin (sacred changes): transforming gendered protocols in Cree ceremonies through Cree law

Lindberg, Darcy 09 August 2017 (has links)
Engaging in Cree ceremonies, in one manner, is a legal act. It is also a gendered act as well. Thus, ceremony is one avenue to seek both legal and gendered transformations. The transformational processes this thesis contemplates are the protocols (or rules of procedure) involved in Cree sweat lodge (matotisân) and pipe (ospwakân) ceremonies. Some of these protocols are gendered in nature, in that they set out different actions based upon sex or gender. Looking at gender is a necessary part of our continuing work with Indigenous legal orders. Further, engaging in ceremony as legal practice offers one avenue in addressing the potentials for inequality that gendered protocols bring about. While this research does not seek a definitive resolution to some critical discourses about gendered protocols, it focuses on their legal nature to explore processes of change that reaffirm the sanctity of Cree ceremonial spaces while opening up these spaces for radical dissent. This research asks: (1) What are the processes for changing the gendered nature of protocols in Cree ceremonies, and as result changing Cree law? (2) What are the barriers within Cree social practices that prevent ceremonial change? (3) What are the potential dangers Cree spiritual and legal practices changing? In order to maintain the integrity of the knowledge systems resident in Cree ceremonies, to uphold our obligations to the relations involved in the ceremonies, and to avoid potentials for violence in our deconstructions or transformation, an ethos of deep relationality should inform our processes of change. This means seeking out methods of change that are already resident within ceremonial structures, and ensuring reciprocity when we actively seek transformations by upholding obligations resident in nehiyaw piimatisiwin (Cree way of life/being). / Graduate

Christian life narratives of young adults who have non-Christian family members in the Republic of Korea : narratives of keeping faith

Kwan, Hee Young 06 November 2008 (has links)
The present research has been undertaken within a narrative approach which is based on social constructionism. For the purposes of fostering more effective communication between science and theology, I also adopt the postfoundationalist way of thinking which was suggested by Van Huyssteen. I made use of the seven movements that were proposed by J C Müller to present the research undertaken with four young adult Christians. Korea is a multi-religious society in which various religions coexist, such as Buddhism, Confucianism, Shamanism, Christianity and several new religions. In the religious background of Korea, people are free to choose their religion, but sometimes their religious freedom has been limited by the patriarchal family system. In particular, young adult Christians who are in the period of emerging adulthood may face an even more difficult situation when they practise a different religion from that of their family. They are still under the strong influence of their parents emotionally and financially, but they want to be adults with their own independent identity. Moreover, Korean social prejudice against Christianity causes the young adult Christians much difficulty in maintaining their faith life comfortably. In order to listen to their stories regarding their faith life, I selected four young adult Christians who have non-Christian family members in their household, who are unmarried, and are therefore still dependent on their parents. With the co-researchers, individual interview sessions and group interview sessions were held, and a web-activity devised in which their stories were told and developed in collaboration with various disciplines that were influencing their discourses within the stories. They were experiencing tensions with their non-Christian family members in maintaining their Christian faith life and were feeling powerless in the relationship with them. Furthermore, in their relationship with other Christians in the church the co-researchers complained about the lack of understanding, regarding their specific family background, shown by those believers who do have Christian relatives in their household. The narrative research process allowed the co-researchers to interpret their difficult stories and to think through the meanings of these and their effect. In this manner, they could reinterpret their painful stories and uncover new meanings that might assist them to be more satisfied in the future. Having discovered new meanings for their painful stories, the co-researchers are not powerless people any longer; instead, they are active people who are dreaming for, or envisioning, a better future with their non-Christian family. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Tradice antifon post Pentecosten ve středověkých hudebních pramenech. Komparace a analýza repertoáru. / Tradition of Post-Pentecosten Antiphons in Medieval Musical Sources. Comparison and Analysis of the Repertory

Demská, Štefánia January 2017 (has links)
This study deals with problems of identity of the office antiphons performed in the period after Pentecost. Mentioned antiphons belong to the New Testament canticle Benedictus for laudes and Magnificat for vespers. This part of the office is not so carefully regulated and between the European traditions occur variations. So this material was used for the determination of each tradition. The variability was not only in the selection and order of antiphons, but also in texts and melodies. After my analysis of the individual Post-Pentecost antiphons in several European medieval sources I found out that in certain cases with the same antiphon text appear completely different melodies or significantly different melodic variations. Due to this fact, in my opinion, is necessary to work with the musical part of this repertoire, consequently sort these chants not only according to the text, but also according to the melody. The ability to assign to the antiphons Melody ID based on the melody of chants (except Cantus ID based on the text) allows us to observe links between traditions which used this melody. In this way it is possible to reveal the relationships between the centers, which were performing the office repertoire. Keywords antiphon, office, manuscript, liturgical year, Pentecost, traditions,...
