Trade is one of the traditional sub-sectors in the Brazilian economy, which absorbs a considerable portion of the labor force. However, the retail industry experiences a structural change that opens the possibility of becoming an eminent producer of new identities related to consumption. This study aims to analyze the durable goods retail sale service, addressing the following issues: retail, the current configuration of labor and consumer society, identity at work, interactions in service sale, and gender relations in durable goods retail. Considering the scarce studies on the service sector in Brazilian scientific production, this analysis aims to contribute to the debate on changes in the world of labor, as well as to provide a perspective to sales work field through a sociological approach. This research applies a triangulation methodology, and includes descriptive analysis of official databases produced by national research institutions coupled with qualitative fieldwork in two retail service companies, using the techniques of systematic observation and semi-structured interviews. / A expansão das atividades e o aumento da oferta de emprego no setor de serviços são fenômenos relevantes que contribuíram para as transformações no mundo do trabalho. O comércio é um subsetor tradicional na economia brasileira e absorve uma considerável parcela da mão de obra. Contudo, o ramo de varejo está sofrendo transformações estruturais, que abrem a possibilidade de convertê-lo em um importante produtor de novas identidades ligadas ao consumo. Portanto, este estudo objetiva analisar o serviço de venda no varejo de bens duráveis, principalmente, as seguintes questões: a atual configuração do trabalho e a sociedade de consumo, a identidade no trabalho, as interações no serviço de venda e a relação de gênero no varejo de bens duráveis. Esta pesquisa justifica-se, pois no Brasil encontramos poucos estudos sobre o trabalho no setor de serviços, isto é, em atividades que não estão diretamente relacionadas ao setor industrial - produtivo. Nesse sentido, este estudo busca contribuir com o debate sobre as transformações no mundo do trabalho, como também visibilizar a atividade de venda de bens duráveis sob o olhar sociológico. A metodologia, que orienta a pesquisa, é a triangulação, que contempla as técnicas de pesquisa quantitativas, assim como as qualitativas. A escolha adequada de soluções para uma construção ou reforma para os clientes finais demanda informações que, apesar de aparentemente acessíveis através de sites de busca ou consulta a fabricantes, podem se mostrar complexas dependendo da escolha do sistema ou necessidade procurada dentro de uma loja. Com isso, verifica-se especificamente no setor de varejo de material de construção, vendas incorretas, incompletas, excesso ou desperdícios de materiais em obras, a situações que podem proporcionar acidentes graves. Diante deste fato, este trabalho tem como foco a proposta de um Sistema de Orientação Técnica (SOT) ao cliente do varejo de material de construção, que visa auxiliar os públicos relacionados em lojas de grande porte. Este trabalho busca auxiliar a informação na disseminação do conhecimento dentro do varejo de material de construção buscando minimizar perdas tangíveis (financeiras) e intangíveis (perdas de clientes por especificação inadequada). O estudo foi baseado na criação de uma plataforma que auxilia este público em relação às suas dúvidas para uma correta especificação. Como delimitação para o estudo de caso, adotou-se o tema \"impermeabilização\", utilizando-se um sistema de localização da patologia para a correta especificação da solução. Avaliou-se o SOT desenvolvido através de um estudo de caso em loja de material de construção, com clientes, vendedores e fabricante. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que o SOT pode ser desenvolvido com baixo investimento e prazo inferior a outras soluções, além de ter apresentado uma grande aceitação pelos clientes das lojas, assim como pelo fabricante e pelo varejo, parceiros neste estudo. / The proper choice of solutions for a construction or renovation by end customers demand information that, although apparently accessible through search engines or query the manufacturers, can show complex situations depending on the choice of system or need sought within a store. With that, specifically in the retail industry, building material sales incorrect, incomplete, or waste of materials in works, even situations that can provide major accidents. Given this fact, this work focuses on the proposal for a Technical Guidance System (TGS) retail customer of construction material, which aims to assist the public in large stores. This work seeks to assist in the dissemination of knowledge within the building material retailers seeking to minimize tangible (financial) losses and intangible assets (customer losses by inadequate specification). This study was based on the creation of a platform that helps this audience in relation to their questions for a correct specification. As delimitation for the case study, it was used the subject \"sealing\", using a system with the location of the pathology for the correct specification of the solution. The assessment of the TGS was developed through a case study in building material shop, with customers, building material dealers and manufacturer. The results obtained showed that the TGS can be developed with low investment and less time than other solutions, and has presented great acceptance by the customers of the stores, as well as by the manufacturer and retail, partners in this study.

Short selling recall option pricing: empirical and theoretical approaches / Precificação da opção de recompra nas operações de venda descoberta: abordagem empírica e teórica

Short selling is important for price efficiency as it helps negative information to be incorporated into prices. As short selling requires borrowing stock in advance, the equity lending market plays a central role in price efficiency. For instance, when the costs of borrowing certain equities are high, these stocks are likely to be overpriced. Unfortunately, not much is known about the equity lending market, particularly the Brazilian market. Here, we have investigated a particular feature of the equity lending contract, namely, the lender recall option. Lending contracts either i) allow the lender to recall the stock at an earlier date than initially agreed, or ii) allow no early recall, that is, they are fixed term contracts. We have derived a simple model for recall option pricing and confirmed the model empirically / A venda descoberta desempenha uma importante participação na eficiência da precificação de ativos, pois permite incorporar informações negativas aos seus preços. Como a venda descoberta requer que um ativo seja alugado previamente, o mercado de aluguel de ativos tem um papel central na formação eficiente de preços. Por exemplo, quando os custos de aluguel são altos, ativos estão provavelmente sobrevalorizados. Infelizmente pouco se conhece a fundo sobre o mercado de aluguel de ativos. Neste artigo, investigamos uma característica do aluguel de ações, propriamente dita, a opção de liquidação antecipada pelo doador. Contratos de aluguel, quanto a este aspecto, podem i) permitir que o doador requeira suas ações antes do prazo acordado ou ii) não permitir esta opção, possuindo prazo fixo. Derivamos um modelo simples de precificação desta opção e confirmamos o modelo empiricamente

We used information about transactions that occurred in the years of 2010 and 2011, involving publicly traded Brazilian companies whose financial information are published quarterly or annually. The first factor that makes the topic Business Combination and this research relevant is that these transactions have become particularly important due to the increasing number of transactions among Brazilian companies and the increase of the value of transactions globally. The second factor is that with the advent of Law 11.638/07, as amended by Law 11.941/08, it was determined that Brazil should have their accounting standards converged to the international standards of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) by the end of 2010. / Este estudo de natureza qualitativa busca por meio de uma pesquisa exploratória e descritiva analisar se as divulgações nas notas explicativas de Combinação de Negócios, transações de aquisições e vendas de empresas, estão em conformidade com os requisitos normativos de divulgação de informações do CPC 15 (R1) – Combinação de Negócios, inspirado nas normas contábeis internacionais, notadamente o IFRS 3 (R) - Business Combinations. Utilizaram-se informações sobre transações ocorridas nos anos de 2010 e 2011, envolvendo empresas brasileiras de capital aberto, cujas informações financeiras são divulgadas trimestralmente ou anualmente. O primeiro fator que torna a pesquisa relevante é que o tema Combinação de Negócios tem se tornado cada vez relevante devido ao aumento do número de transações de aquisição entre empresas no Brasil e do aumento do valor das transações globalmente. Sociocultural factors as variables in the written output of students of English at the University of Venda : a semantic-conceptual perspective

M.A. (Applied Linguistics) / The central concern of the research study is the academic underachievement of the student. The problem is probed by looking at the language and learning difficulties encountered by the student as he strives to cope with the demands of his academic programme. The research target group consists of students registered inter alia, to do English 100, a course that exposes the students to literary texts. Since the group is at the entry level to university education, the complex of adjustments which confront the student offer stimulating theoretical possibilities. Illumination to the problem is sought in three related directions, viz the semanticconceptual, the sociocultural and an encapsulation strategy. In its general orientation the study looks beyond the student and the lecture room in seeking answers to vexing educational problems. The research method used is, in the main, eclectic with a predilection to approaches that lend themselves more amenably to the sociocultural and experiential undergirding of the investigation as a whole. . The main findings identify the key players on whom initiatives towards alleviation and amelioration largely depends. Above all, the problem is conceived as sociocultural, for which only a socioculturally adequate solution can ever be viable. The perceived significance of the research study is its serious attempt to ask educationally significant questions. It however, does not claim to offer answers in such an intricate area of human endeavour.

A configuração da imagem do imóvel residencial (apartamento) na percepção do comprador

Esta dissertação teve, por objetivo, identificar a configuração da imagem de apartamento, formada sob o ponto de vista das pessoas que compraram este bem. Por imagem, entende-se como sendo representações, impressões, convicções ou mesmo redes de significados de um objeto armazenado na memória de forma holística. A fim de atingir o objetivo proposto, foi empregado o MCI (Método de Configuração de Imagem), que é um instrumento de pesquisa utilizado para a identificação das imagens, tanto de organizações, quanto de marcas, produtos e serviços. A partir da aplicação do instrumento, atingiu-se o resultado, que consiste no entendimento de como é configurada a imagem de apartamento. Isto ocorreu através da pesquisa qualitativa, que proporcionou a compreensão dos atributos formadores da imagem de apartamento e de como estes atributos estão organizados na mente do consumidor, quanto a suas dimensões formadoras e a posição destes atributos nas representações dos entrevistados. Já através da pesquisa quantitativa, foi possível identificar e confirmar a estruturação dos fatores que compõem o modelo relativo à intenção de compra de apartamentos; mostrando então, as dimensões que mais impactaram na intenção de compra. Nesse sentido, identificouse que o fator simbólico, sensorial, valor percebido e funcional são os que mais impactaram nas intenções de compra dos consumidores. Identifica-se que este trabalho traz uma importante contribuição no entendimento das imagens dos consumidores e como estas imagens impactam nas intenções de compra. Nesse sentido, este tipo de estudo pode auxiliar as empresas no direcionamento estratégico e na construção de imóveis adequados as necessidades e desejos dos consumidores. / The objective of this work is to identify the flat image, formed from the point of view to the people who bought it. Trough this image, it is understood as representations, views, beliefs or even networks of meanings of an object kept in holistic memory. In order to achieve this purpose, we appointed the MCI (Method of Image Configuration), which is a research tool used to identify the images for organizations, as brands, products and services. From the application of the instrument, it has achieved a result, which consists in understanding how the image flat is configured. This means of qualitative research, which provided an understanding of the attributes forming the image of apartment and how these attributes are organized in the consumer mind as the dimensions and position of these attributes from the people who was interview. From the quantitative research, it is possible to identify and confirm the structure of the factors that compose the relative model on intention of buy the apartments, showing what most influenced the purchase intent. With this we could identify the symbolic factors, sensory, value and functional are the most impacted on consumers purchasing intentions. We found out that this work bring an important contribution in understanding the images of consumers and how these images impacting on purchase intentions. This study can help companies in the strategic direction and construction of buildings appropriate to the needs and desires of consumers.

Aprendizado por reforço em lote: um estudo de caso para o problema de tomada de decisão em processos de venda / Batch reinforcement learning: a case study for the problem of decision making in sales processes

Planejamento Probabilístico estuda os problemas de tomada de decisão sequencial de um agente, em que as ações possuem efeitos probabilísticos, modelados como um processo de decisão markoviano (Markov Decision Process - MDP). Dadas a função de transição de estados probabilística e os valores de recompensa das ações, é possível determinar uma política de ações (i.e., um mapeamento entre estado do ambiente e ações do agente) que maximiza a recompensa esperada acumulada (ou minimiza o custo esperado acumulado) pela execução de uma sequência de ações. Nos casos em que o modelo MDP não é completamente conhecido, a melhor política deve ser aprendida através da interação do agente com o ambiente real. Este processo é chamado de aprendizado por reforço. Porém, nas aplicações em que não é permitido realizar experiências no ambiente real, por exemplo, operações de venda, é possível realizar o aprendizado por reforço sobre uma amostra de experiências passadas, processo chamado de aprendizado por reforço em lote (Batch Reinforcement Learning). Neste trabalho, estudamos técnicas de aprendizado por reforço em lote usando um histórico de interações passadas, armazenadas em um banco de dados de processos, e propomos algumas formas de melhorar os algoritmos existentes. Como um estudo de caso, aplicamos esta técnica no aprendizado de políticas para o processo de venda de impressoras de grande formato, cujo objetivo é a construção de um sistema de recomendação de ações para vendedores iniciantes. / Probabilistic planning studies the problems of sequential decision-making of an agent, in which actions have probabilistic effects, and can be modeled as a Markov decision process (MDP). Given the probabilities and reward values of each action, it is possible to determine an action policy (in other words, a mapping between the state of the environment and the agent\'s actions) that maximizes the expected reward accumulated by executing a sequence of actions. In cases where the MDP model is not completely known, the best policy needs to be learned through the interaction of the agent in the real environment. This process is called reinforcement learning. However, in applications where it is not allowed to perform experiments in the real environment, for example, sales process, it is possible to perform the reinforcement learning using a sample of past experiences. This process is called Batch Reinforcement Learning. In this work, we study techniques of batch reinforcement learning (BRL), in which learning is done using a history of past interactions, stored in a processes database. As a case study, we apply this technique for learning policies in the sales process for large format printers, whose goal is to build a action recommendation system for beginners sellers.

O contrato de compra de energia elétrica no ambiente livre

Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar o contrato de compra de energia no ambiente livre, diante da escassa doutrina existente na área, mormente no campo do Direito Privado. Trazem-se noções do setor elétrico brasileiro e dos seus dois ambientes de comercialização de energia, em razão de suas peculiaridades e relevância para a compreensão do tema. A energia como objeto singulariza o contrato, por tratar-se de uma commodity não estocável, do ponto de vista físico, e de bem móvel, do ponto de vista normativo. Em vista das características verificadas no bem energia, o instrumento apto a regrar as transferências de sua propriedade é a compra e venda. O contrato em exame é típico, pois previsto no Decreto n. 5.163/2004, o qual, além de ressaltar a liberdade de pactuação, elenca apenas dois elementos necessários para constarem na avença: volume e prazo. A Convenção de Comercialização da CCEE acresce mais dois elementos como indispensáveis: preço e garantia financeira. Dessa forma, coube ao mercado, com o fundamento jurídico nos princípios da autonomia privada e boa-fé objetiva, integrarem outros elementos necessários ao contrato, criando-lhe uma estrutura básica. Para o estudo dessa estrutura, foi realizada uma análise descritiva de cláusulas obtidas em amostra qualitativa de minutas do contrato em exame. Nesse sentido, verifica-se a existência de um padrão quanto ao conteúdo geral do contrato, gerando o mínimo de segurança e previsibilidade jurídica necessárias a tornar o ambiente livre atrativo. Observando-se, porém, disparidade quanto ao conteúdo semântico de cada cláusula, mantendo-se espaço à liberdade de pactuação das partes – fundada na autonomia privada e na boa-fé objetiva – para conformarem o detalhamento do contrato como lhes for mais conveniente. / This work aims to analyze the electrical energy purchase agreement in the open market environment, given the scarce doctrine in the area, especially in the field of Private Law. Notions of the Brazilian electric sector, and its two market environments of energy commercialization, are presented due to their peculiarities and relevance to the understanding of the theme. Energy as an object singles out the contract, since it is a non-stockable commodity, from the physical point of view, and a movable property, from the normative point of view. Because of the characteristics of the energy, the instrument able to regulate the transfers of its property is the purchase agreement. The contract under examination is typical, as provided for in Decree no. 5,163/2004, which, in addition to highlighting the freedom of agreement, lists only two required elements: volume and term. The CCEE Commercialization Convention adds two more indispensable elements for the contract: price and financial guarantee. Therefore, it was up to the market, with the legal basis in the principles of private autonomy and objective good faith, to bring other necessary elements to the agreement, creating a basic structure. For studding this structure, a descriptive analysis of clauses obtained in a qualitative sample of contract drafts was been carried out. There is a pattern of the general content of the contract, generating the minimum of legal security and predictability necessary to make the free market environment attractive. However, there is a disparity in the semantic content of each clause – resulting from private autonomy and objective good faith - maintaining the area of freedom of agreement of the parties.

Influence of socio-cultural practices amongst the Venda speaking people towards the disclosure of child sexual abuse

Thesis (M. A. (Social Work)) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / Child sexual abuse is a social and health issue that occurs across cultures globally. The central concern to it is disclosure. Children and their caregivers do not easily disclose or report child sexual abuse due to a variety of influences. This study was qualitative in nature and its aim was to explore the influence of socio-cultural practices amongst the Venda speaking people towards the disclosure of child sexual abuse. Purposive sampling was used to select the participants who possess intensive knowledge of Venda culture. Data was collected from fifteen (15) participants through the use of semi-structured in-depth interviews which were guided by an interview schedule with open ended questions. This study has used both ecological and socio-cultural theories to zoom into the nature of child sexual abuse and socio-cultural practices which have an influence in disclosing this social and health phenomenon in Venda. The findings show that Venda speaking caregivers have contradictory knowledge with regard to what constitutes child sexual abuse. Traditionally, caregivers are assigned the duty of taking care of children, therefore, it becomes difficult to draw a line between abuse and traditional duty. Forceful sexual intercourse, pornography and sexual grooming, and sexual violence were acknowledged as child sexual abuse. The findings of this study have shown that disclosure of child sexual is dependent on the social and cultural contexts within which people live. It was found that disclosure hardly occurs because of fear of bringing shame into the family name and its dignity. The findings also show that socialisation of children inevitably brings social gender-role expectations that make it difficult for male children to disclose their sexual abuse experiences for fear of being perceived to be more feminine than masculine. Children learn from initiation schools to be strong and brave. This makes it difficult for disclosure of child sexual abuse to take place. Cultural norms of secrecy inhabits disclosure to take place amongst the Venda speaking people because of fear of being reprimanded. The findings have shown that disclosure hardly takes place because of lack of child-parent open discussion about sex related matters. Child-perpetrator relationship was found to determine viii disclosure. It is difficult to disclose intra-familial child sexual abuse for fear of dividing the family. The study also revealed that because of the patriarchal system, the majority of women do not disclose child sexual abuse because they are afraid of losing financial support as they mostly depend on their husbands financially. It is therefore recommended that awareness campaigns be continuously conducted with the aim of capacitating the Venda speaking people with in-depth knowledge with regard to child sexual abuse and its disclosure. Caregivers should work to improve relationships with their children. Schools should improve programmes that educate children about sexual matters. Different stakeholders should work together to bring about the environment that enables women to participate in the economic sector so that they can be financially dependent. This is because it was found that disclosure of child sexual abuse can be inhibited due to their financial dependency to their husbands. Community dialogues could also be helpful in shifting the mindset associated with gender roles and social expectations.

Educational support of students with disabilities at institution of higher learning in South Africa: a case study of the University of Venda

(Educational Psychology)) -- University of Limpopo, 2016 / For the past two to three decades, there has been a large influx of students with disabilities into institutions of higher education worldwide. In South Africa, in these past three decades, records of intake of students with disabilities were not recorded as services and support of this kind were not institutionalised. Within this transformation process, which involved including previously under-represented groups, institutions of higher learning are currently facing challenges of what kind of educational support to offer to students with disabilities, in order to help them to succeed academically. This study investigated the educational support offered to students with disabilities at the University of Venda (UNIVEN) as experienced by the students themselves. The study, therefore, gives an insider perspective. The study followed a qualitative research approach, and used classroom observations, document analysis and focus group interviews to collect data. Ten students with various disabilities participated in the study. The findings of this study reveal that there are some degrees of support that UNIVEN offers. However, some gaps to meet students educational needs still exist. These gaps include lack of information about the programmes that UNIVEN is offering, physical infra-structure barriers and lack of disability knowledge. This study recommends the establishment of a forum in which students with disabilities can discuss and address their educational needs on campus. Other recommendations include the following: lecturers’ training, disability awareness, the installation of an online interactive portal to increase communication between students and the university, and an online survey measuring lecturers’ attitudes and knowledge. The study suggests that future research could include factors that predict graduation rates among students with disabilities.
