In addition, it also sought an approximation/friendship between salespeople and consumers influencing the perceived pressure effect on consumer perception of justice, as well as whether emotions (positive versus negative) mediate a relationship between a perception of justice and behavior (intent of repurchase and word-of-mouth) from salespeople. A quantitative study was carried out through a survey of 411 direct selling custom ers, and the data were analyzed by structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that consumers do not feel pressured by resellers, so a perception of fairness perceived by consumers has been high and has led them to the intentions of positive repurchase and buzz behavior in relation to the salespeople. Proximity/friendship between consumers and salespeople increased a perception of consumer justice, and only as positive emotions did they partially mediate a perception of fairness and consumer behavior. / Este estudo teve como objetivo principal investigar o efeito da percepção de pressão para comprar na percepção de justiça do consumidor, na venda direta. Além disso, também buscou compreender se a proximidade/amizade entre revendedores e consumidores influencia o efeito da percepção de pressão na percepção de justiça do consumidor, bem como se as emoções (positivas vs. negativas) mediam a relação entre a percepção de justiça e o comportamento (intenção de recompra e boca-a-boca) dos consumidores em relação aos revendedores. Foi realizado um estudo quantitativo mediante levantamento de dados (survey) com 411 consumidores de venda direta, e os dados foram analisados pela modelagem de equações estruturais (MEE). Os resultados mostraram que os consumidores não se sentem pressionados pelos revendedores, portanto a percepção de justiça percebida pelos consumidores foi alta e os levou a intenções de comportamentos de recompra e boca-a-boca positivos em relação ao revendedor. A proximidade/amizade entre consumidores e revendedores aumentou a percepção de justiça do consumidor, e apenas as emoções positivas mediaram parcialmente a relação entre a percepção de justiça e o comportamento do consumidor.

Women and sexually transmitted diseases: an exploration of indigenous knowledge and health practices among the VhaVenda

Health care service providers in South Africa and elsewhere in the world are increasingly faced with an enormous challenge of modeling their approach to health care to meet the needs and expectations of the diverse societies they serve. The norms and customs that are inherent in these indigenous cultures are fundamental to the day-to-day existence of the people concerned and may hold a key to the understanding of many aspects of their lives, including the understanding of disease, in the case of this thesis, those transmitted sexually. A grounded theory study was used based on its theory of symbolic interactionism to explore the indigenous knowledge and health practices of the Vhavenda in sexually transmitted diseases. Data was collected through in-depth interview with traditional healers and key informants. Snowball sampling was used to idenify key informants as categories continued to emerge. Dara was analyzed using three basic types of coding namely, open coding, axial coding and selective coding. The findings of the study revealed a variety of terms used to identify SDs. Also emerging from the results was that cultural gender roles in the Vhavenda society justify women as sole agents of STDs. In accordance with grounded theory the decriptions of types of diseases, disease patterns, signs and symptoms culminated in "dirt" as the core category. It came out clear that dirt in the form of women'svaginal discharges and moral dirt is the main course of a STDs. It was also evident that strategies for combating STDs will have to take into account popular beliefs and attudes regarding views on STDs as well as the role and influence of traditional healers. Based on the above findings guidelines for designing a module for teaching health professionals has been formulated to aid them in understanding the beliefs and practices of people they serve. / Health Studies / D. Communal pastoral counselling : culturally gifted care-giving in times of family pain - a vhavenda perspective

The thesis argues that there is a need for Christian communal pastoral care and counselling practice beyond the individualistic Western pastoral care and counselling practices. The communal pastoral care model advocated by the author uses culturally gifted care-givers who follow spontaneous caring models. Several of the major books concerning communal pastoral care and counselling were reviewed. The author concludes that the church has been impoverished by ignoring the cultural gifts of the majority of members and the mutual communal care of the community. Pain and its healing in this thesis are understood in a culturally sensitive manner. Pastoral care must be done in context, in this case in the Vhavenda context. Hence the thesis looks systematically at the way in which the Vhavenda understand and heal pain from their cosmological perspective. The thesis engages in empirical research among the Vhavenda people using qualitative interview. The author selected five small communities to test for their understanding of pain and healing. He developed his own interview schedule. Themes encountered in interpreting the research results include pain as part of life. The thesis develops two sub-models of a Vhavenda-Christian culturally gifted model of communal care arguing the need of their incorporation into Christian communal care. They are “Kha ri vangulane” model which pictures pain as a thorn which people help to remove from a person; and the “khoro” or “dzulo” gathering which is family or community care-giving. A case study has illustrated how they are used.Finally, the author argues that the Bible is full of communal pictures which resonate well with the African people. Hence it is fairly easy to correlate the Vhavenda sense of community with the body of Christ model of Christian community as found in the Bible. The conclusion is that members of the Christian community need to reincorporate their culturally gifted care resources and integrate them with the biblical care. / Thesis (D. Th. Moral regeneration in the lives of Vhavenda youth through indigenous knowledge systems : applied ethnography of communication-based approaches with special reference to Tshivhenda

Today, unlike yesterday we talk about Moral Regeneration amongst the Vhavenḓa youth of today and throughout the whole world. Strategies of combating this monster that is snatching our youth are recommended in this study. The problem dealt with in this study is the issue of Moral degeneration amongst the youth which needs to be regenerated. There are many causes of moral degeneration amongst the youth discussed in this study which are accompanied by the remedial strategies. As a way forward in this study, observations of researchers and scholars on how to find the solution about moral degeneration that has impacted on the lives of Vhavenḓa youth and other youth of today around the globe were focused on. The literature review in this study was based more on issues that are linked to Indigenous Knowledge Systems as discussed by various scholars. This study used the qualitative research methodology though quantitative minimally. The sampling of data was more purposive though there were cases of convenience and snowballing so as to get more data. Data for this research study was collected through questionnaires and interviews from a host of interviewees. This data was analysed using open and axial coding. The findings were grouped or categorised into major themes in terms of selective coding. Reasons behind the findings were explained too. In view of the challenges of this integration as well as the development of strategies that meet the different customer profiles, the consequences of adopting the strategic multi-channel positioning are highly relevant in practical and theoretical terms. Omnichannel is the true convergence of consumer experience. It extends to the whole nature of the brand and aims to make the consumer realize that this experience is part of a whole. This represents a new form of positioning and development of channels that now come to act as points of contact. Thus, the present work was developed from the perspective of a consulting project that produced the opinion on the implementation of the positioning strategy omnichannel by the company Romapar Tools. The results show that the strategy has produced positive financial results and demonstrates how the company came to such, as well as the challenges of sustaining these changes.

No entanto, nesses métodos de análise, não se fornece ao investidor a noção exata da volatilidade do seu retorno quanto a possíveis mudanças de planos por parte do incorporador e mudanças no mercado, que podem ocorrer entre a compra do terreno e a venda das unidades imobiliárias prontas. Com este trabalho, propôs-se olhar para o investimento no desenvolvimento de um empreendimento imobiliário, levando-se em consideração o prêmio da opção de se desenvolver um projeto de incorporação em um terreno após sua aquisição. O objetivo foi mostrar que ao considerar, na análise de viabilidade financeira, a volatilidade da probabilidade de venda das unidades imobiliárias, o retorno do investidor não é o mesmo que o previsto em uma análise de viabilidade padrão de mercado e que existe um valor de investimento para determinada faixa de risco que o investidor esteja disposto a assumir ao financiar o projeto. Calculou-se, portanto, o valor do prêmio da opção de realizar um empreendimento imobiliário a partir da variação da probabilidade de venda dos imóveis lançados em um caso real de incorporação. Os resultados são muito significantes para a tomada de decisão do investidor. A modelagem mostra que existia um prêmio de opção de quase duas vezes o valor que foi pago pelo terreno do empreendimento, no cenário econômico em questão, no entanto, revela que o investimento que prometia taxa de retorno de 31% a.a. de acordo com a análise de viabilidade do incorporador, pagaria somente 19% a.a. A dissertação propõe uma maior qualidade de informação ao investidor fornecendo os limites inferior e superior desta taxa de retorno esperada, para um intervalo de confiança de 95% e, também, demonstra a existência de um preço ótimo de venda da unidade imobiliária, nem sempre conhecido pelo incorporador, e sua relação com a volatilidade do resultado do empreendimento. A metodologia demonstra que a maximização do resultado pode não coincidir com o melhor cenário de risco para o investidor. / The question of how much an investor is willing to pay for a land is part of an economicfinancial study of a potential real estate venture in that location, which is traditionally analyzed by its net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR). However, in these methods of analysis, investors are not given an accurate notion of the volatility of their return on possible changes of plans by the developer and changes in the market that may occur between the purchase of the land and the sale of the real estate units. This work was proposed to look at the investment in the development of a real estate project taking into consideration the value of the option to develop the project in a land after its acquisition. The goal was to show that when considering, in the financial viability analysis, the volatility of the probability of sale of real estate units, the return of the investor is not the same as predicted in a standard financial analysis and that there is an investment value for a certain risk range that the investor is willing to assume when financing the project. The value of the option for realizing a real estate project was then calculated based on the variation in the probability of sale of real estate units in a real case scenario. The results are very significant for the decision-making of the investor. The model shows that there was an option premium of almost twice the value that was paid for the land of the development, in the economic scenario studied, however, reveals that the investment that promised a rate of return of 31% pa. according to the financial viability analysis of the developer, would pay only 19% pa. The dissertation proposes a higher quality of information to the investor by delivering the upper and lower limits of this expected rate of return, with a 95% confidence interval, and also demonstrates the existence of an optimum sale price for the real estate unit, not always known by the developer, and its relation to the volatility of the project result. The methodology demonstrates that the maximization of the result may not coincide with the best risk scenario for the investor.

Esta tese tem como tema o inadimplemento antecipado do contrato no direito civil brasileiro. O ponto de partida para o estudo consiste na análise de jurisprudência que originariamente utilizou a figura, desprovida de consagração legal expressa. Posteriormente, é examinada a doutrina. Diante deste material, propõe-se um modelo teórico para o entendimento do inadimplemento antecipado do contrato, ajustando-o às categorias básicas do direito das obrigações brasileiro. São apresentados seus pressupostos, elementos constitutivos e efeitos. No decorrer do trabalho, são abordados aspectos do compromisso de compra e venda, a relação obrigacional complexa, deveres acessórios e laterais, fim contratual, inadimplemento, culpa e imputabilidade, impossibilidade, perda da função social, exceção de contrato não cumprido, resolução, indenização e demanda de cumprimento. / This work has as its theme the anticipatory breach of contract in the Brazilian civil law. The starting point for the study is the analysis of cases that originally used the figure, devoid of explicit legal recognition. Subsequently, the doctrine is examined. Faced with this material, we propose a theoretical model for understanding the anticipatory breach of contract, adjusting it to the basic categories of Brazilian law of obligations. Their assumptions, constitutive elements and effects are presented. Throughout his work, aspects of purchase and sale, the complex obligatory relationship, accessories and side duties, contractual order, breach of contract, non-performance, responsability, frustration, loss of social function, termination, rescission, and action for damages.

It describes the organization of the market, identifies factors that determine the level of short interest and analyzes the effects on the efficiency of the stock prices. It finds that short-sellers act as contrarians and that the activity is directly related to the trading volume and inversely related to the daily price range. Periods of lock up and stabilization, these after the IPOs, and periods prior to seasoned offers also influence the level of open interest, as well as tax arbitrage that occurs at the time of payment of interest on equity by companies and have disruptive effect on stock prices. Short-sellers position themselves to earn excess returns and prefer stocks with higher betas. It is also shown that the addition of long-short positions to existing investment portfolio would increase returns and reduce market risk. When it comes to market efficiency, the study shows that the prices of stocks with high levels of short interest react more quickly to market movements than those with lower level. The study also contributes with specific recommendations for changes in the regulation and in the operational organization of the activity in Brazil. / Este trabalho investiga a atividade de empréstimo de ações no Brasil e sua conexão com operações de venda a descoberto em bolsa de valores. Descreve a organização do mercado, identifica fatores que determinam o nível de empréstimos e analisa os efeitos na eficiência da formação de preços das ações. Conclui que os vendedores atuam como contrários e que a atividade tem relação direta com o volume de negociação e inversa com a amplitude diária dos preços. Períodos de lock up e estabilização, esses após os IPOs, e o que antecede às ofertas subsequentes também influenciam o saldo de empréstimos, assim como a arbitragem tributária na distribuição, pelas empresas, de juros sobre capital próprio que tem efeito disruptivo sobre os preços das ações. Investidores a descoberto posicionam-se de modo a auferir excesso de retornos negativos e preferem ações com betas mais elevados. Os resultados também demonstram que o acréscimo de posições long-short a portfólio de investimento já existente aumentaria o retorno e reduziria o risco de mercado. Sobre a eficiência do mercado brasileiro, o estudo mostra que os preços das ações com saldos elevados de empréstimos ajustam-se com mais rapidez aos movimentos do mercado do que aquelas com menor saldo. O trabalho contribui, ainda, com recomendações pontuais para alterações da regulação e da organização operacional da atividade no País.

O método de pesquisa inicial foi o desk research a fim de se levantar exemplos de como grandes marcas anunciam moda íntima e interagem com suas consumidoras no Instagram. O Depósito da Lingerie fez posts pagos baseados nos benchmarks estudados. Os resultados indicaram que houve aumento de vendas das peças anunciadas tanto na loja virtual quanto nas lojas físicas que sentiram ainda mais os efeitos da comunicação. / The objective of this study was to verify the Instagram’s efficiency to improve the sales performance of Depósito da Lingerie’s online store. The communications strategy utilized was the sales promotion of products selected in accordance with their acceptance by the consumer public as advertised in the Instagram social media. In order to gather examples of how great brands advertise lingerie and interact with their customers on Instagram, the initial research method selected was desk research. Depósito da Lingerie used paid ads based on the studied benchmarks. The results indicated that there was an increase in sales of the pieces announced both in the virtual store and in the physical stores that felt even more the effects of the communication.

The aim of the study was to investigate the barriers faced by University of Venda (UNIVEN) students in accessing the institution’s health services.The objectives of the study were to assess the level of awareness of the respondents regarding the UNIVEN campus health services and to determine the availability and acceptability barriers experienced by students in accessing the campus health services.The study is quantitative using a self-administered questionnaire, informed by literature review, to collect data from the respondents. The study population consisted of all the students who were resident on campus. The sample size were five hundred and thirty four (534) respondents drawn from all the residences on the university campus and comprising of students from all the schools and levels. Questionnaires were administered face-to-face to respondents in the respondents’ rooms. The validity and reliability of the study were ensured. Ethical considerations, such as informed consent, right to privacy, and no-harm to participants, were observed and addressed in this study. Data was entered and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences 23. For continuous variables such as age, descriptive variable was calculated. For categorical variables, frequencies and percentages are presented.The results indicated that the average age of the study population was 21.85 years with almost all of the respondents (95%) being aware of the existence of a health clinic on the Univen campus. However, only 63% had gone for consultation at the clinic. Awareness of the clinic’s services appears to be poor, with HIV Counselling & Testing being the most known service, while minor illnesses’ management was the most utilised service (48%). Barriers experienced by the respondents were related to waiting times and opening hours of the clinic, with only 33% and 39% respectively, describing them as ideal.The study provides evidence that although university health services may be provided at no cost students still experience barriers in accessing them. Effective measures are needed to increase students’ awareness of the clinic’s services and to shorten waiting times and improve clinic opening hours.
