A dicionarização de termos em língua brasileira de sinais (Libras) para o ensino de biologia: uma atitude empreendedora / The dictionarization of terms in brazilian sign language (Libras) for biology education: an entrepreneurial attitude

Carmona, Julio Cesar Correia 26 June 2015 (has links)
In the process of teaching and learning of deaf students, especially in biology teaching, many sign language translators-interpreters and school teachers find difficulties to convey specific ideas and concepts, which create misunderstanding and loss of information transfer agility (SOUZA; SILVEIRA, 2011). This is due to lack of specific signals from different areas of knowledge in sign language. Therefore, some deaf students from a school in the northern region of Paraná, motivated by an entrepreneurial spirit and aided by biology teachers and sign language interpreters, endeavored to dictionarize the main terms of biology present in teaching high school books. This work presents the evaluation and application of a support tool (sign language glossary) in teaching high school biology to deaf students. The specific objectives of the research were to identify the difficulties in teaching biology to deaf students, determine the lack of signs in biology education for the deaf high school students, proposing to the community of deaf students and high school biology teachers a set of signs that could contribute to the process of teaching and learning, assessing the adequacy of signs proposed to the classroom everyday and submit to the high school community a sign language glossary for the biology area. The theoretical basis of this research consisted in the history of deaf education in the linguistic structure of sign language and restrictions on the formation of new signs, the needs of specific scientific terms for teaching and learning of deaf students and the entrepreneurship and its relationship in the educational environment. For data collection, it was used open and closed questionnaires with biology school teachers and deaf high school students from a state school in northern Paraná. The results obtained through a qualitative and quantitative research demonstrated the real need for an educational product that favors the learning of scientific / biological terms in sign language.

On the classification of predicates in Nłe?képmx (Thompson River Salish)

Howett, Catherine Dawn 05 1900 (has links)
In this thesis I discuss the semantic basis of the morphological form of predicates in N+e?képmx, a Northern Interior Salish language. Intransitive and transitive use of roots in Nle7képmx is morphologically marked; intransitives use a set of primary affixes and transitives use a set of transitivizers. I document the behavior of these morpho syntactic affixes with a subset of the predicates of Me?képmx to determine what is optional, what is obligatory and what is blocked. I link this to an analysis of argument structure of predicates and subsequently create a classification of predicate types. I present an overview of the intransitive and transitive morphology of Meképmx in Chapter One. In Chapter Two I discuss current literature regarding the syntactic and semantic diagnostics of unaccusative and unergative verbs. I create a semantic classification of the set of roots, and discuss the behavior of roots with morpho-syntactic affixes to determine the diagnostic potential of the affixes. In Chapter Three I discuss the potential of an intransitive-transitive classification of roots. The data show that there is an unergative and unaccusative distinction in the language, specific aspectual morpho-syntactic diagnostics distinguish unaccusatives and causative and desiderative distinguish unergatives. The traditional analyses of Salish languages as having a majority of unaccusative roots and no underlying transitives is confirmed. / Arts, Faculty of / Linguistics, Department of / Graduate

Background annotation of entities in Linked Data vocabularies / Background annotation entit v Linked Data slovníků

Serra, Simone January 2012 (has links)
One the key feature behind Linked Data is the use of vocabularies that allow datasets to share a common language to describe similar concepts and relationships and resolve ambiguities between them. The development of vocabularies is often driven by a consensus process among datasets implementers, in which the criterion of interoperability is considered to be sufficient. This can lead to misrepresentation of real-world entities in Linked Data vocabularies entities. Such drawbacks can be fixed by the use of a formal methodology for modelling Linked Data vocabularies entities and identifying ontological distinctions. One proven example is the OntoClean methodology for curing taxonomies. In this work, it is presented a software tool that implements the PURO approach to ontological distinction modelling. PURO models vocabularies as Ontological Foreground Models (OFM), and the structure of ontological distinctions as Ontological Background Models (OBM), constructed using meta-properties attached to vocabulary entities, in a process known as vocabulary annotation. The software tool, named Background Annotation plugin, written in Java and integrated in the Protégé ontology editor, enables a user to graphically annotate vocabulary entities through an annotation workflow, that implements, among other things, persistency of annotations and their retrieval. Two kinds of workflows are supported: generic and dataset-specific, in order to differentiate a vocabulary usage, in terms of a PURO OBM, with respect to a given Linked Data dataset. The workflow is enhanced by the use of dataset statistical indicators retrieved through the Sindice service, for a sample of chosen datasets, such as the number of entities present in a dataset, and the relative frequency of vocabulary entities in that dataset. A further enhancement is provided by dataset summaries that offer an overview of the most common entity-property paths found in a dataset. Foreseen utilisation of the Background Annotation plugin include: 1) the checking of mapping agreement between different datasets, as produced by the R2R framework and 2) annotation of dependent resources in Concise Boundaries Descriptions of entities, used in data sampling from Linked Data datasets for data mining purposes.

Justifying a New Beginning: The Case of An Urban, Jewish Congregation in the 1970s

Ochrach-Konradi, Tirza 01 January 2019 (has links)
This research applies C. Wright Mills’ theory of vocabularies of motive to reveal the collective narratives, which were used to justify the atypical founding of an urban Jewish congregation in the 1970s. Prior to and during this period, US Jewish communities were migrating out of city centers into their surrounding suburbs. Most Jewish congregations followed their congregants and moved into the suburbs. This study identifies the collective justifications within the Hatchala Chadasha community, which are the accepted reasons for the organization’s atypical urban location and organizational structure. The findings of this research are based in the examination of interviews with individuals who were community members during the earliest years of Hatchala Chadasha’s existence. Patterns of similar accounts across the interviews revealed the collective narratives that defended four of the congregation’s fundamental decisions: why the congregation was founded, where the congregation chose to locate, how the congregation acted politically, and what organizational structure the congregation employed. These justifications are further examined, in relation to the behavior and values common within the broader Jewish community and other contextual components, to theorize why certain accounts became the accepted narrative within Hatchala Chadasha. Fundamentally, this research examines informants’ motive statements to discern and analyze the collective narratives formed in a community, which justify the community’s atypical behavior in the context of a predominant, external culture.

The lexicon is the level of the language that shows the most the knowledge one has about the world, since the lexical unities refer to elements (actions, objects, feelings, qualities, events) of the human life universe. The fulfilment of this work was motivated by the perception of the importance that the lexical expansion has during someone's journey. From this point of view, it's a fact that the school has an important role on the lexical development of a student because it's the place where he/she is in contact with a great variety of texts. Thereby, this thesis emphasized the aspects related to vocabulary teaching and shows a methodological, theoretical and practical subsidy for the Basic Education Portuguese teacher by means of: i) theoretical orientations about vocabulary teaching; ii) suggestions on how to teach a student to know and like a dictionary and, this way, to contribute that this student will use the dictionary as a useful, important and pleasurable didactic resource, while reading and writing; iii) several exercises on vocabulary with some orientations about how the student can use the dictionary. From this perspective, the objective traced to develop this work was: i) to produce a methodology of teaching based on the aspects of the lexicon pedagogy during the Portuguese classes of the Basic Education, precisely in the groups of 5th and 8th grades. In this work, in the item where the exercises on vocabulary are presented, a database was organized in the Program Folio Views 4.2 with the texts extracted from the books used in the Portuguese classes of public schools in the city of Cassilândia - Mato Grosso do Sul. / The diversity in the production of information from public and private institutions provide daily challenges for archiving, which refer to how the area will provide access, recovery and reuse of information. In this dynamic context, make use of instruments to collaborate with the information management process becomes paramount. In addition to the instruments traditionally used for archiving, such as the description and the archival classification, it is necessary to adopt tools that can complement them, adding precision to the set of descriptors used in the representation of information processes. In this sense, this research establishes discussions aimed at bringing the traditional instruments of archival of controlled vocabularies. It is understood that these instruments act as mediators between the representation and retrieval of information. In this sense, this research establishes discussions aimed at bringing the traditional instruments of archival of controlled vocabularies. It is understood that these instruments act as mediators between the representation and retrieval of information. The objective is therefore to this research, collaborate with the studies on the development of specific vocabularies for files because it was observed that there is still a shortfall in relation to the theme proposed under archival. In addition, it also aimed to analyze the standard of archival description ISAAR (CPF) which deals with the archival authority record description for corporate bodies, persons and families, together with the ISO 25964-2011 standard that deals with the development of controlled vocabularies. Therefore, the following methodological procedures are used, literature review on the proposed theme in Brazilian databases (BRAPCI, Scielo) and international databases (Scopus, LIST), theses and digital dissertations libraries (BDTD) and anal congress (ENANCIB). They were also used ANSI / NIZO Z39.19-2005 standards (R2010) and ISO 25964-2011 for the development of the theoretical components of controlled vocabularies. Regarding the theoretical components of archival, research developed having as parameter the standard ISAAR description (CPF). After the construction of the theoretical framework of the research, analyzed jointly ISO 25964-2011 standard and the standard of ISAAR description (CPF) to make it possible to make a proposal for the development of specific controlled vocabularies for files. The results obtained with the development of this research indicate the need for closer ties between the archival and controlled vocabularies, instruments still little used by the area, but through its standard-setting elements can help towards improving the representation of archival information.
