Manliga och kvinnliga vapengravar : En arkeologisk genusstudie kring vikingatida vapengravar. / Male and female weapon burials. : An archaeological gender study regarding Viking Age weapon burials.Ljungberg, Anna January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to perform a gender study focusing on Viking Age weapon graves. A female weapon burial, a male weapon burial and a female burial are studied in this thesis. It is necessary first to discuss the meaning of a weapon burial. Thereafter the thesis will discuss if it is possible to find any differences in the gender interpretation of weapon burials belonging to men and females. The weapon graves will also be interpreted in relation to a female burial. The research history is primarily based on Conkey & Spector’s (1984) article regarding archaeological androcentrism. The result of the thesis states that a weapon burial must consist of at least one of following weapons: sword, shield, spear, axe, horse equipment or arrowheads. The results also state that the interpretation of a weapon burial depends on the sexual identity of the buried individual. It is easier to state that the buried individual is a warrior if the individual is assumed to be a male. It is also possible to see differences regarding male and female burials in general where the interpretation of rich female graves is questioned due to the absence of a man in the grave. The graves are still interpreted in traditional gender roles, where the gender roles are based on the grave goods.

De kvinnliga krigarnas roll på vikingatiden / The role of women warriors in the Viking AgeHansen, Ann Marie January 2023 (has links)
With the help of osteological and genetic analyses, several warriorgraves from the Viking Age that where previously interpreted as belonging to men have been shown belong to women. However, it remains controversial to interpret these women as warriors. That the women belonged to the social elite most students and researchers largely agree on but there are divided opinions about what role they had in the Viking Age society. Interpreting past societies and their social roles based on the material available today is complex, which comes clear in this essay. The importence of not interpreting the social role of the Viking Age based on the contemporary view of gender roles, ideals and norms also becomes clear.

Han, hon eller hen? : En studie över krigargravar från yngre järnåldern / He, she or they? : A study of warrior graves from the Late Iron AgeWik, Michelle January 2023 (has links)
In the boat-gravefield in Vendel, fourteen graves have been found and the first one was found in connection with the construction of a trench for the new wall of the church. The burial site was first investigated in 1882 and it has been shown that many of the graves have been disturbed and exposed since before. The graves are dated between 575–1050 AD. The essay describes how the boat-graves in Vendel have been gendered as male warrior graves based on stereotypically male weapons/warrior graves. However, two of the graves stand out as there were female attributes, gendered artifacts (pearls). Warrior graves have traditionally been interpreted as male graves based on the limited binary gender roles. It will also be discussed whether it may have been that some individual has defined themself as non-normative.

L'économie politique de la guerre : Giovanni Andrea Doria, la République de Gênes et la monarchie hispanique (1560-1606) / The political economy of war : Giovanni Andrea Doria, the Republic of Genoa and the Spanish Monarchy (1560-1606)Carpentier, Bastien 18 December 2017 (has links)
In this thesis, we study the articulation of the polycentric monarchy of the Habsburgs through the exposure of a case study centered on Genoa. In 1528, trained in the lap of the genoese condotierri Andrea Doria, Genoa was freed from the domination on the king of France and had integrated the Habsburg imperial system, as an independent and allied republic. The Hispano-Genoese political military and financial system owed much to the links between the Habsburg and Doria houses. If Andrea Doria was highlighted by an important historiographical production, his little nephew Giovanni Andrea, - who was admiral for the Spanish between 1584 and 1602 - has not yet been the object of completed studies. By observing his individual trajectory, the objective is to create a tool to question the role of the figure of the war contractor in the Habsburg imperialist policy. By crossing the empirical and micro-analytical perspectives, and resizing the analytical scales, the challenge is to understand the king's strategy of entrusting parcels of political power to individuals and to observe how Genoese took advantage of it. Finally, it is a question of measuring the consequences that this modus operandi had on the Habsburg war policy in the Mediterranean area. Through these questions it is the impact of the private interest in the construction of the polycentric monarchy that is raised.

A honra, a glória e a morte na Ilíada e na Odisséia / The honor, the glory and the death in the Iliad and OdysseyPacheco, Antonio de Pádua 11 May 2009 (has links)
It verifies and analyzes the enchainment ideological used for Homer to order the death of Greek heroes principal of the epic cycle; the warrior ideal of the death beauty and the heroic ideal of the imperishable glory; the fate of the common man and the fate of the hero; the will of Zeus and the plain of Zeus; the death of heroes; the funeral games, registered in the Iliad and Odyssey. The data were obtained through: systematical reading of texts produced by ancients authors and by contemporarys authors, verifying the behavior of the Greeks of the Homeric period in the face of death. It points to as main results: there is a enchainment ideological what tie the deaths of the Homeric heroes principal, weaved for the poet and based in the epic cycle; there is a plain of Zeus to eliminate the heroes principal because the death these heroes cause suffering in the gods; the believe in the afterlife and the funerals processes adopted to the Greeks of Homeric period still were in formation; the Greek ancients not keep one systematic belief in one idea of resurrection of the soul or in one idea of life after-death. It finishes that there is a ideological directrix what order the epic plot in the Homeric poems; this ordering carry the heroes to accomplish their fates, following a enchainment what take into account the degree of the honor and warrior excellence; the funerals rites of the Greeks of Homeric period were consolidating and Homer collaborate in this process of the consolidation, what already was materialized in the Classic period.
