Essa pesquisa de mestrado tem como objetivo discutir as políticas públicas de preservação do patrimônio cultural no Brasil, buscando analisar e compreender o impacto e as conseqüências dessas propostas nos discursos sobre representação e identidade cultural. O recorte da pesquisa (período compreendido entre o final dos anos 1970 e início dos anos 2000) optou por relacionar a análise dos projetos de preservação e renovação urbana da área da Luz - iniciados com o projeto do Escritório Rino Levi (1974) até o polêmico Programa MONUMENTA/ BID (1999- atual ) - às transformações econômicas e culturais sofridas pela sociedade brasileira, refletidas no contexto urbano e também globalizado, utilizando como justificativa a valorização da imagem da cidade, tendo o patrimônio cultural como seu objeto de valorização mercadológica. / This Master\'s degree research aims at discussing the public policies for preserving the cultural heritage in Brazil, in view of analyzing and understanding the impact as well as the consequences of these proposals in the discourse of cultural identity and representation. The scope of this research is from the late 1970s to the early 2000s, and it has chosen to relate the analysis of the projects of preservation and urban renovation in the area of Luz - started with the Rino Levi office\'s project (1974) until the polemic MONUMENTA/ BID program (1999 - present) - to the economic and cultural transformations that occurred in the Brazilian society, reflected both in the urban and globalized contexts. The valorization of the image of the city has been used as a justification, and the cultural heritage has been its object for market value.

Materialgården - En verksamhet med förbättringspotential / The material yard - A business with improvement potential

Volvo Group Trucks Operations tillverkar motorer, växellådor och lastbilar till koncernens varumärken Volvo, Renault, Mack och UD-Trucks. Powertrain Production är produktionsenheten inom AB Volvo som producerar dieselmotorer och motorkomponenter. I Skövde består Volvos produktionsprocesser av gjutning, bearbetning och montering. Gjuteriet använder metaller och legeringar för att producera färdiga komponenter och delar. Tillverkningsmaterialet förvaras och hämtas från fabrikens materialgård. Materialgårdens tillväxt har skett okontrollerat genom åren. Material har placerats efter möjlighet och skapat ett komplext flöde. Volvo uppfattar området vara riskfyllt på grund av det trånga utrymmet personalen delar med inkommande och utgående trafik. Logistiken upplevs därför rörig, ineffektiv och oorganiserad. Syftet var att utföra en nulägesanalys av materialgården utifrån kriterierna layout, personal och fordon, inköp och materialhantering, flöde, arbetsmätning samt riskanalys. Därefter konstruerades ett nytt förslag baserad på nulägesanalysen. Metodiken har baserats på intervjuer och observationer. Teori har studerats för att praktiskt genomföra en layoututformning, analys av logistik och flöde samt arbetsmätning och riskanalys. Revit Architecture har använts för att visa dagens layout och ett koncept av en ny materialgård. Dagbok användes som hjälpmedel efter varje besök. Resultatet av nulägesanalysen visar att aktuell layout skiljer sig avsevärt från tidigare upplägg. Logistiken och materialhantering visar en hög omsättning och ett komplext materialflöde. Arbetsmätningen indikerade på onödiga transportsträckor och långa väntetider. Riskanalysen stärkte tidigare misstankar om osäker arbetsplats.   I förslaget på ny layout presenteras ett upplägg baserat på ”Struktur, Effektivitet och Säkerhet” med en avsevärd minskning av både materialhantering och trafik inne på materialgården. Materialgården är ett exempel på en del av verksamheten som inte har utvecklats i takt med Volvos expansion. Det visar på en oprioriterad verksamhet där planering och struktur har varit eftersatt. För materialgården rekommenderas att Volvo ser över sin materialverksamhet och strukturerar om från grunden. Genom tydligare planering erhålls en effektivare produktion och därigenom bättre lönsamhet. Det kräver att företaget ligger steget före i utvecklingen. Åtgärder bör implementeras om gjuteriet ska uppvisa konkurrensfördelar i Volvos verksamhet. / Volvo Group Trucks Operations manufactures engines, transmissions and trucks to the Groups brands Volvo, Renault, Mack and UD Trucks. Powertrain Production is the production unit within AB Volvo producing diesel engines and engine components. Volvo´s production in Skövde consists of casting, machining and assembly. The foundry uses metals and alloys to produce finished components and parts. The material is stored and retrieved from the factory´s material yard. The material yards growth has occurred uncontrollably through time. Materials have been placed according to feasibility and has created a complex flow. Volvo perceives the area to be unsafe because of the confined space the staff shares with incoming and outgoing traffic. Therefore the logistics are turbid, inefficient and disorganized. The purpose was to perform a current state analysis of the material yard based on the criteria´s layout, employees and vehicles, purchasing and material handling, material flow, work measurement and risk analysis. Subsequently a new proposal was created based on the current state analysis. The methodology was based on interviews and observations. Theory has been studied for the practical implementation of a layout design, analysis of logistics and flow as well as work measurements and a risk analysis have been performed. Revit Architecture has been used to demonstrate the current layout and a concept of a new material yard. Diary was a used tool after each visit. The result of the current state analysis shows that the current layout differs substantially from previous layout. Logistics and material handling shows a high turnover and a complex material flow. Work measurements indicate in unnecessary distances and long waits. The risk analysis strengthened earlier suspicions of an unsafe workplace. The new proposal presents a layout based on "Structure, Efficiency and Security" with a significant reduction in both material handling and traffics inside the material yard. The material yard is an example of a part in the company that has not evolved in line with Volvo´s expansion. This shows an unprioritized part of the business where planning and structure has been neglected. For the material yard it is recommended that Volvo reviews their material activities and tackle their operations from the basis. Through planning, a more efficient production is obtained and thereby improved profitability. It requires that the company is at the forefront of development. Actions should be implemented if the foundry seeks a competitive advantage in Volvo´s operations.

Modeling of Particulate Matter Emissions from Agricultural Operations

State Air Pollution Regulation Agencies (SAPRAs) issue and enforce permits that limit particulate matter emissions from all sources including layer and broiler facilities, cattle feedyards, dairies, cotton gins, and grain elevators. In this research, a process was developed to determine distances from emitting sources to where the estimated concentrations were less than the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). These distances are a function of emission rates and meteorological conditions. Different protocols were used to develop emission factors for cattle feedyards and layer houses. Dispersion modeling with American Meteorological Society/Environmental Protection Agency Regulatory Model (AERMOD) was conducted to determine the emissions of particulate matter. These data were used to determine the distances from the sources to where the concentrations of particulate matter (PM) would be less than the NAAQS. The current air-permitting process requires that concentrations from a source do not exceed the NAAQS at the property line and beyond for the facility to be in compliance with its permit conditions. Emission factors for particulate matter less than 10 micrometers (PM10) were developed for cattle feedyards using a reverse modeling protocol and Tapered Element Oscillating Microbalance (TEOM) sampler data. Corrections were applied to the TEOM measurements to account for TEOM vs. filter-based low-volume (FBLV) sampler bias and over-sampling of PM10 pre-collectors. Invalid concentrations and dust peaks larger than mean ± 3 times the standard deviation were excluded from this study. AERMOD predictions of downwind concentrations at cotton gins were observed for compliance with 24-hour PM10 and PM2.5 NAAQS at property lines. The emissions from three cotton gins were analyzed at 50 m and 100 m distances. TEOM and FBLV samplers were used to collect 24-hour PM10 measurements inside a laying hen house. The distances to the property lines at which the emissions of PM10 were below the 24-hour average PM10 standards were estimated using AERMOD. The results suggested that the special use of the NAAQS for as the property-line concentration not to be exceeded, could be problematic to agriculture. Emission factors that were comparable of published emission factors were obtained in this study. Large distances to property lines were required when minimum flow rate recommendations were not considered. Emission factors that are representative of the emissions in a particular facility are essential; else facilities could be inappropriately regulated.

Simulation and analysis of port bottlenecks: the case of Male'

Maldives is an island nation that consists of around 1190 islands located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka. The country virtually imports everything it consumes. Male’ Commercial Harbour handles all international sea cargo for the country. The land area assigned for the port is small; and there are frequent bottlenecks and congestion in the port. By using computer simulation techniques, this research investigates the situation of Male’ Commercial Harbour and identifies logistic bottlenecks that exist at the port. Accordingly, a field research was conducted at Male’ Commercial Harbour to collect required data. Both, qualitative and quantitative data were collected using focus group, interviews, on-site observations, and time and motion measures. The simulation models presented in this thesis were carried out with Arena software (Academic Version of Arena 10.0). The models were used to analyse the vessel turnaround time, berth capacity, yard capacity, container dwell time, queue values, utilisation of ship cranes and other container handling equipment. The results show that berth capacity seems to be the major bottleneck that creates longer queues and ship delays at Male’ Commercial Harbour. Several scenarios were tested to identify the best scenario regarding ship waiting time at berth. Based on the best scenario, a project was proposed focusing on the development of an extended alongside berth at Male’ Commercial Harbour. A cost benefit analysis was performed to see whether the project is financially feasible.

Logistical timber yard optimization and customization : A case study of beneficial changes to industrial flow, capacity and volume / Logistisk optimering och anpassning av timmerplan : En fallstudie av fördelaktiga förändring till industriellt flöde, kapacitet och volym

The progression of wood processing in Swedish saw mills is growing in a rapid pace which pushes internal resources to the limit. This calls for new and innovative ideas to further the capacity of the production to satisfy both requirements as well as demands. Logistics is a key factor in these processes which can both hide problems as well as solutions that could benefit production.   The objective of the study is to research the current timber yard model as it doesn’t suffice the demand, and instead present alternative ideas that will. The methods to do so are a collection of interviews, literary researches and a case study. Alternative models are generally presented in regards to volume capacity but also machine capacity, time and economic factors.   The results show the inefficiency of the current model with insufficient volume capacity of logs, and where unnecessary hauling between two yards have costly outcomes. Suggested model increases the total yard volume from 15 000 m³ to about 25 176 m³, but where hauling and transporting costs still are imminent due to the geographical position of the industry. The model is designed to decrease hauling distances along with lower fuel usage and ultimately effects on the environment.   Increasing the volume of the timber yard is carried out by taking advantage of unutilized areas as well as by a compromise of areas that are today used for other processes.   Lastly, the recommendations presented to the company are to analyze the results and research questions of the study and from there see to what actions are to be made. Developing the concepts of presented model along with the other suggestions and conclusions that follow. / Framfarten av vidareförädling av trä i svenska sågverk är mycket stor vilket sätter stor press på interna resurser. Detta efterfrågar nya och innovativa idéer for att utveckla produktionens kapacitet för att ha möjligheterna att både tillfredsställa krav och efterfråga. Logistik är en nyckelfaktor i dessa processer, vilket både kan gömma problem men även lösningar för produktionens fördel.   Målet för studien är att utforska den nuvarande timmerplanen då den inte räcker till för den efterfrågan som eftersträvas och istället presentera alternativa idéer som gör det. Metoderna som används för det är en samling av intervjuer, litterära undersökningar och fallstudier. Alternativa modeller presenteras framför allt sätt till volymkapacitet men även maskinkapacitet, tid och ekonomiska faktorer.   Resultaten visar en ineffektivitet i den nuvarande modellen vilket har en otillräcklig volymkapacitet för stock, där onödigt fraktande bidrar med dyra resultat. Modellen som föreslås ökar den nuvarande totala kapaciteten från cirka 15 000 m³ till 25 176 m³, men där fraktning och transporter fortfarande är ofrånkomligt på grund av den geografiska positionen industrin har. Modellen är utformad för att minska transportavstånd samt bränsleförbrukning och därmed även negativa effekter på miljön.   Ökningen av volym på timmer planen görs genom att använda oanvända områden samt genom kompromisser med områden som idag har ett annat användningsområde för andra delprocesser. De presenterade modeller ser till de förhållande av studien i relation till de satta ambitioner och begränsningar.   Slutligen, de rekommendationer som framförts till företaget är att analysera de tankar och idéer från studien och därifrån se vilka handlingar som ska tas. Vidareutveckla de koncept av presenterade modeller i samband med de förslag och slutsatser som följer.

Dagvattenhantering på underbyggda gårdar inom kvartersmark / Stormwater management on yards with underground garages

I takt med expandering och förtätning av städer byggs gröna ytor bort medan andelen hårdgjorda ytor ökar. Regn och smältvatten kan inte infiltrera genom de hårdgjorda ytorna vilket innebär att det istället avrinner som dagvatten. Samtidigt som urbaniseringen bidrar till ökad dagvattenavrinning och nederbördsmängderna i ett framtida klimat förväntas öka, blir det allt viktigare att planera för hur dagvatten ska omhändertas i nya bebyggelseområden. Inom flera svenska kommuner ställs idag krav på att dagvatten skall omhändertas inom privata fastigheter innan det ansluts till det allmänna dagvattennätet. Parallellt med detta innebär förtätningen att byggherrar idag ofta åläggs anlägga gårdar med underliggande garage, så kallade underbyggda gårdar. Det fanns ett behov av att förtydliga och undersöka dagens situation gällande dagvattenhantering i kombination med underbyggda gårdar.Examensarbetets syfte var att samla och skapa ny kunskap om dagvattenhantering på underbyggda gårdar och undersöka hur olika aktörer ser på kraven som ställs på dagvattenhantering. Kvalitativa intervjuer med representanter från de tre aktörsgrupperna VA-huvudmän, ansvariga för detaljplan och byggherrar genomfördes. Syftet var även att utforma ett verktyg för att belysa beröringspunkter mellan dagvattenhantering på underbyggda gårdar och andra intressen inom privata fastigheter.Examensarbetet avgränsades till att studera dagvattenåtgärderna gröna tak, växtbäddar och fördröjningsmagasin. Förutom dagvattenhantering identifierades fem intressen inom kvartersmark som bör bejakas på underbyggda gårdar: landskapsarkitektur, arkitektur, konstruktion, förvaltning och VVS. Ett verktyg utformades och inkluderade de tre dagvattenåtgärderna samt de fem intressena. Checklistor utformades för att beskriva beröringspunkter mellan dagvattenhantering på underbyggda gårdar och de fem intressena. Verktyget består av fyra steg: Nutida och framtida bebyggelse, Dagvattenkrav, Val av dagvattenåtgärder samt Vidare rekommendationer eller förslag på korrigeringar.Intervjuresultaten påvisar att flera intervjupersoner upplever att det är svårt att ställa krav på dagvattenhantering då rättsläget är osäkert, samtidigt upplever byggherrar att kraven kan vara svåra att nå på underbyggda gårdar, främst på grund av platsbrist. Checklistornas punkter är tänkta att fungera som vägledande aspekter att beakta vid dagvattenhantering på underbyggda gårdar och behjälpa avvägning av olika intressen. Förhoppningen är att checklistorna kan bidra till en ökad förståelse för förhållandena mellan dagvattenhantering på underbyggda gårdar och andra intressen. Examensarbetets resultat visar på att en samverkan mellan de olika intressena behövs för att skapa förutsättningar för en god dagvattenhantering. För att funktionen ska hålla över tid är det även viktigt att gemensamt kommunicera kring syftet med den underbyggda gården. / With the expansion and densification of cities, green areas are removed while the proportion of hard surfaces are increased. Rain and melt water are not allowed to infiltrate through the hard surfaces, and instead it runs off like stormwater. With this and the expected increase of precipitation due to climate changes, it is becoming increasingly important to plan for the disposal of stormwater in new urban areas. Several Swedish municipalities are today providing restrictions regarding the diversion of stormwater on private properties and requirements that need to be met before connection to the public water network. Meanwhile, densification means that builders today are often forced to build residential yards on underground garages. There was a need to clarify and investigate today's situation regarding stormwater treatment in combination with underground garages.The purpose of this thesis was to analyse today's state of knowledge about stormwater treatment on yards with underground garages and to investigate how different actors experience the requirements. Qualitative interviews with representatives from the three groups of actors, stormwater sewer operators, planning divisions and developers were conducted. The aim was also to design a tool for highlighting connections between stormwater management and other interests on private properties.This thesis was delimited to study green roofs, plant beds and detention tanks. Five interests were identified on yards with underground garages: landscape architecture, architecture, construction, management and HVAC. A tool was designed including the stormwater facilities containing four steps: Today’s and future construction, Stormwater requirements, Choice of facilities and Further recommendations or suggestions for corrections. Within the tool, four checklists were established to describe connections between stormwater treatment on yards with underground garages and the interests.The interview results show that several interviewees find it difficult to impose restrictions for stormwater management due to legal uncertainties. Meanwhile developers find following the restrictions can be difficult with yards with underground garages, mainly due to lack of space. The checklists are intended to serve as guiding points that should be taken into consideration in stormwater management on underground garages and to help balance different interests. The hope is that the checklists can contribute to an increased understanding of the relationships between stormwater management with underground garages and other interests. The results of the thesis show that interaction between the various interests is needed to create conditions for a good stormwater management and that communication about a joint purpose for the yard with an underground garage is important for maintaining the function of the yard.

A pesquisa intitulada A antiguidade clássica na representação do feminino: pranteadoras do Cemitério Evangélico de Porto Alegre (1890-1930) analisa a influência da cultura greco-romana na representação das figuras femininas desta necrópole e apresenta um inventariado das pranteadoras. O estudo aborda também as duas marmorarias mais atuantes na capital gaúcha: a Casa Aloys e a Marmoraria Lonardi, que realizaram a colocação de algumas destas esculturas. O inventário contempla não somente a tipologia das pranteadoras, mas os materiais utilizados na arte funerária do Evangélico. A análise das pranteadoras foi amparada na presença social e moral da mulher republicana, retratada nas páginas das revistas Globo e Kodak, importantes publicações do período sobre o qual versa este estudo. / This research comprises an analysis of the greek and roman culture influences on the representation of the female figures in the necropolis indicated by its title: The classical antiquity in the female representation: mourners of the Evangélico Cemetery of Porto Alegre (1890-1930), as well as an inventory of the mourners in that cemetery. The study also approaches the two more active marble yards in the city of Porto Alegre: the Casa Aloys and the Lonardi Marble Yard, which has done the placement of some of these funerary sculptures. The inventory does not comprehend only the mourners’ typology, but also an identification of the materials employed at the funerary arts of the Evangélico Cemetery. The mourners’ analysis took in consideration the social and moral presence of the republican woman as portrayed in the Globo and Kodak magazines´ pages, which were important publications in the period that this study discusses.
