Utomhusmiljöns betydelse för barns lärande och utveckling : Åtta förskollärares syn på utomhusmiljön i förskolan / The importance of the outdoor environment for children’s learning and development

Hamra, Daniella, Paso, Elin January 2022 (has links)

Globalization and inequality in an agent-based wealth exchange model

Khouw, Timothy 24 February 2022 (has links)
Agent-based asset exchange models serve as an interesting and tractable means by which to study the emergence of an economy's wealth distribution. Although asset exchange models have reproduced certain features of real-world wealth distributions, previous research has largely neglected the effects of economic growth and network connectivity between agents. In this work, we study the effects of globalization on wealth inequality in the Growth, Exchange, and Distribution (GED) model [Liu et al, Klein et al] on a network or lattice that connects potential trading partners. We find that increasing the number of trading partners per agent results in higher levels of wealth inequality as measured by the Gini coefficient and the variance of the agent wealth distribution. However, if globalization is accompanied by a proportionate increase in the economic growth rate, the level of inequality can be held constant. We present a mean-field theory to describe the GED model based on the Fokker-Planck equation and derive the stationary wealth distributions of the network GED model. For large Ginzburg parameter for which mean-field theory is applicable, the wealth distributions for the fully connected model are found to be Gaussian; however, for sparse trade networks, a non-Gaussian "hyperequal" phase is found even for large Ginzburg parameter. It is shown that several networks (Erdos-Renyi, Barabsi-Albert, one-dimensional and two-dimensional lattices) display mean-field critical exponents when the Ginzburg parameter is large and held constant and the system parameters are scaled properly.

Delli Abo, Nour January 2023 (has links)

Delay Analysis in Marshalling Yards : The case study of Malmö

Kontaxi, Chrysi January 2020 (has links)
The management of terminal yards requires quite complex day-to-day operations when hundreds of trains could be entered and/or exited marshalling yards every day. More specifically, multi-dimensional decisions are necessary to be taken in daily basis for management of operations. Manual solutions might cause inefficiency in the yard’s operation and consequently to the network. Nowadays, many freight trains in Sweden fail to follow their scheduled plan. In particular, a small portion of trains are following the scheduled arrival and departure time while the majority of trains run ahead of schedule. This master thesis aims to conduct evaluation of internal procedures within a marshalling yard in terms of time, examine the magnitude of delays from the scheduled departure time, and to identify the key reasons causing the delay during departure and their main implications. Furthermore, the master this aims to investigate ways of optimizing operations to increase system punctuality. The Malmo’s marshalling yard was used as a case study. The methods are used for this master thesis are a qualitative as well as a quantitative assessment. A literature review has been conducted using journal papers, conference papers and technical reports from other relevant projects as well as on-site visit and interviews. In order to manipulate the data for the research, the software Planimate was used and a simulation model is built based on operations in Malmo’s marshalling yard. Three scenarios are performed. The first one is considered without any usage of automation. The second one, automation is applied in the case of the arrival yard and the third one, automation is applied in the arrival and the departure yard. The findings from the qualitative research show that there are several factors cause delays, either network failures such as the late arrival of trains in the yard or internal factors as the reduced railway capacity. Also, as the simulation model has been demonstrated, any application of automated processes within the marshalling yard’s operations will be beneficial because will speed up the internal processes. For instance, the third scenario turns out the best scenario among the others because time is reduced almost to half time compared to the first scenario.

Determining a Relationship Between Posterior Chain Flexibility and Linear Sprint Speed

Evans, Megan Elizabeth 16 April 2014 (has links)
One very common axiom amongst Strength and Conditioning Professionals and Athletic Performance Coaches is that the least flexible athletes usually produce the fastest 40-yard dash times. Flexibility, in this case specifically refers to posterior chain flexibility (PCF). This is usually measured by athletes ability to perform a sit-and-reach test. This train of thought has been widely accepted within the human performance professions, even though it is void of any scientific investigation or measured validity. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a relationship between posterior chain flexibility using the sit-and-reach test and speed in the 40-yard dash. All test subjects were male between the ages of 18-22, and members of a Division I university football team. All 95 test subjects had participated in at least one semester of a strength and conditioning program designed by Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists. Similar of the study done by Johnson (2001), each athlete was placed in a group based on position, line of scrimmage groups (LOS), Skill group (receivers, cornerbacks, rover linebackers, whip linebackers, and safeties), Combo group (inside linebackers, tight ends, quarterbacks, tailbacks, fullbacks, and defensive ends), Specialist group (place- kickers, kick-off specialists, holders, and punters). Each test subject was tested in the 40-yard dash, the sit-and-reach flexibility test, as well as other tests for strength and power such as the bench press, front squat, push jerk, power clean, vertical jump, and agility tests. Body weight and height was also measured. This study used a simple linear regression on the data where the Sit-and-Reach test results were the dependent variable and the subjects timed results in a 40 yard dash was the independent variable. There appears to be no significant relationship between a low flexibility score and the sprint speed of an athlete for the entire group population. The results also show that there is no significant relationship between flexibility of the posterior chain and linear speed as measured in the 40-yard dash when looking at football players that fall under the Combo, Skill, or LOS position groups. There was however a significant relationship for the specialist group. The theory that the least flexible athletes usually produce the fastest 40-yard dash times is not true for those specific groups. / Ph. D.

Science in The Preschool Yard - A Matter of Course? : A Qualitative Study on Preschool Teachers' Perspectives on Teaching Science in The Preschool Yard.

Ekström, Sanna, Lilja Hansson, Nathalie January 2022 (has links)
The present work is a qualitative study which aims to contribute with knowledge about preschool teachers' perspectives on teaching science in the preschool yard. Two questions are used to concretize the purpose of the study. The method used was a digital survey, as well as six personal interviews. To analyze the results of the study, the socio-cultural perspective was used as a theoretical connection. The results of the study show that preschool teachers see the preschool garden as a possible arena for teaching science. The results also show that preschool teachers use different materials when teaching science in the preschool garden. Preschool teachers' presence in the children's exploration of science in the preschool yard is something that is important to challenge the children in their interests. Being able to conceptualize the children's exploration with scientific concepts is something that emerges in the results of the study. Furthermore, the results are compared with previous research and discussed based on the study's purpose and questions. In conclusion, suggestions for further research and various implications for the preschool teaching profession are described.
