Wideband Printed MIMO/Diversity Monopole Antenna for WiFi/WiMAX Applications

See, Chan H., Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Abidin, Z.Z., McEwan, Neil J., Excell, Peter S. January 2012 (has links)
A novel printed diversity monopole antenna is presented for WiFi/WiMAX applications. The antenna comprises two crescent shaped radiators placed symmetrically with respect to a defected ground plane and a neutralization lines is connected between them to achieve good impedance matching and low mutual coupling. Theoretical and experimental characteristics are illustrated for this antenna, which achieves an impedance bandwidth of 54.5% (over 2.4-4.2 GHz), with a reflection coefficient <;-10 dB and mutual coupling <;-17 dB. An acceptable agreement is obtained for the computed and measured gain, radiation patterns, envelope correlation coefficient, and channel capacity loss. These characteristics demonstrate that the proposed antenna is an attractive candidate for multiple-input multiple-output portable or mobile devices

Recent developments of reconfigurable antennas for 4G and 5G wireless communications: A survey

Ojaroudi Parchin, Naser, Basherlou, H.J., Al-Yasir, Yasir I.A., Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Abdulkhaleq, Ahmed M., Noras, James M. 30 January 2020 (has links)
Yes / Reconfigurable antennas play important roles in smart and adaptive systems and are the subject of many research studies. They offer several advantages such as multifunctional capabilities, minimized volume requirements, low front-end processing efforts with no need for a filtering element, good isolation, and sufficient out-ofband rejection; these make them well suited for use in wireless applications such as fourth generation (4G) and fifth generation (5G) mobile terminals. With the use of active materials such as microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), varactor or p-i-n (PIN) diodes, an antenna’s characteristics can be changed through altering the current flow on the antenna structure. If an antenna is to be reconfigurable into many different states, it needs to have an adequate number of active elements. However, a large number of high-quality active elements increases cost, and necessitates complex biasing networks and control circuitry. We review some recently proposed reconfigurable antenna designs suitable for use in wireless communications such as cognitiveratio (CR), multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), ultra-wideband (UWB), and 4G/5G mobile terminals. Several examples of antennas with different reconfigurability functions are analyzed and their performances are compared. Characteristics and fundamental properties of reconfigurable antennas with single and multiple reconfigurability modes are investigated. / European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement H2020-MSCA-ITN-2016 SECRET-722424.

Resilient Waveform Design for OFDM-MIMO Communication Systems

Shahriar, Chowdhury M. R. 23 October 2015 (has links)
This dissertation addresses physical layer security concerns, resiliency of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems; the `de-facto' air-interface of most wireless broadband standards including LTE and WiMAX. The major contributions of this dissertation are: 1) developing jamming taxonomy, 2) proposing OFDM and MIMO equalization jamming attacks and countermeasures, 3) developing antijam (AJ) MIMO systems, and 4) designing null space projected overlapped-MIMO radar waveform for spectrum sharing between radar and communications system. First, we consider OFDM systems under various jamming attacks. Previous research is focused on jamming OFDM data transmissions. We focus on energy efficient attacks that can disrupt communication severely by exploiting the knowledge of target waveform. Specifically, these attacks seek to manipulate information used by the equalization algorithm to cause errors to a significant number of symbols, i.e., pilot tones jamming and nulling. Potential countermeasures are presented in an attempt to make OFDM waveform robust and resilient. The threats were mitigated by randomizing the location and value of pilot tones, causing the optimal attack to devolve into barrage jamming. We also address the security aspects of MIMO systems in this dissertation. All MIMO systems need a method to estimate and equalize channel, whether through channel reciprocity or sounding. Most OFDM-based MIMO systems use sounding via pilot tones. Like OFDM attacks, this research introduces MIMO channel sounding attack, which attempts to manipulate pilot tones to skew the channel state information (CSI) at the receiver. We describe methods of designing AJ MIMO system. The key insight is that many of the theoretical concepts learned from transmit beamforming and interference alignment (IA) in MIMO systems can be applied to the field of AJ and robust communications in the presence of jammers. We consider a realistic jamming scenario and provide a `receiver-only' and a transmitter `precoding' technique that allow a pair of two-antenna transceivers to communicate while being jammed by a malicious non-cooperative single-antenna adversary. Finally, we consider designing a collocated MIMO radar waveform, which employs a new MIMO architecture where antenna arrays are allowed to overlap. This overlapped-MIMO radar poses many advantages including superior beampattern and improvement in SNR gain. We combine this radar architecture with a projection-based algorithm that allows the radar waveform to project onto the null space of the interference channel of MIMO communications system, thus enabling the coexistence of radar and communications system. / Ph. Pien, Tsung Ying Unknown Date (has links)
Since the National Communications Commission released six operating licenses of Wireless Broadband Access (WBA) in 2007, the six WiMAX operators in Taiwan have all completed deployment for commercial services by the end of 2010. However, as an emerging industry, WiMAX technology and its industry have not fully matured. Meanwhile, WiMAX is facing the rival fourth generation wireless technology . Under the circumstance, in order to create competitive advantages, WiMAX operators should lie primarily in the application of the bundle of valuable resources at the firm's disposal. Therefore, this paper, takes the Resource-Based Theory as the analysis structure, with reference to the case of licensed WiMAX operator “Vee Telecom Multimedia Co,” (or simply Vee) attempts to find out how the operator utilizes its core resource to carry out the competitive strategy. The purposes of this thesis include: (1) The reason why Vee chose to enter WiMAX industry; (2) The core resources and recourse gaps of Vee; (3) When entering the WiMAX industry, how Vee carry out the strategic deployment of its resources; (4) Compare to other WiMAX operators, what competitive advantages does Vee have; (5) What core resources do WiMAX and LTE operators have? How do WiMAX operators face the challenge of LTE technology? The results showed that (1) the core resources of Vee are contents, customer base, and the fiber network. (2) the resource gaps of Vee are funds, talent, experiences in telecommunications. SANTOS JUNIOR, Josemar Alves dos 29 September 2011 (has links)

This work investigates the behavior of the traffic modeling based policing algorithms found in the literature (Leaky Bucket, Fractal Leaky Bucket, Gaussian Multifractal Leaky Bucket) regarding the buffer utilization, the efficiency for the use of buffer efficiency in describing the accumulated traffic (envelope process), packet dropping and data loss (bytes). First, we compare the envelope process of the considered policing algorithms and the proposed algorithm MAPM (Multifractal Arrival Policing Mechanism), with traffic without policing. Next, it was calculated the system loss rate for a finity buffer system with and without policing algoritm. Using the deterministic Network Calculus, it is also estimated the average queue length (backlog) and delay of bytes by applying the concept of the Min-Plus algebra that presents some differences against the conventional algebra. The proposed policing algorithm was applied to a transmission system based on OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency - Division Multiplexing) / TDMA (Time Division Multiplexing Access) system, where it was evaluated the network performance of the considered policing algorithms. Simulations were carried out with real wireless network trace (Wi-Fi) and wired network trace in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the algorithm proposed in relation to policing algorithms in the literature. The simulations shown the efficiency of the MAPM policing algorithm with traces from wired and wireless networks. We also propose the use of deterministic Network Calculus associated to multifractal envelope process to analyze the traffic behavior in terms of delay and backlog before policing algorithms application in the network. Finally we present the results of buffer utilization, link utilization, delay and backlog to a WiMAX system where the policing algorithm MAPM in general shown delay and backlog increasing in the traffic compared with anothers algorithms and low link utilization / A modelagem multifractal tem se mostrado mais apropriada para descrever algumas características encontradas nos fluxos de tráfego de redes reais que outros modelos, tais como o modelo de Poisson e Markov.

WiMAX有服務品質保證的公平資源分配機制 / Fairness of Resource Allocation with QoS Guarantee in WiMAX

Lo, Chi Wen Unknown Date (has links)
Over the past decade, wireless network access and real-time services have become more popular than ever. People are eager to have better quality of service. Among all, WiMAX is one of the best wireless communication technigues . However, WiMAX standard does not specify those mechanisms of connection admision control (CAC)、bandwidth request (BR)、bandwidth allocation and scheduling . In this thesis, we propose the above mechanisms and imcorporate them as MAC layer functions. First, we discuss those related parameters and issues when designing connection admision control、bandwidth request、bandwidth allocation and scheduling. Second, we propose an efficient method to improve the fairness of bandwidth allocation and efficiency of contention bandwidth request. We design a MAC layer co-function called dynamic polling interval function (DPI function). We use the DPI function to design a no contention bandwidth request method to improve the efficiency of traditional bandwidth request method and use the features of DPI function to improve the fairness of bandwidth allocation and scheduling. At last , we use NS-2 (Network Simulator version 2) as our network simulator and compare the result of simulations to prove the efficiency of our proposed methods.
