Who would be this person, born at Rio Pomba’s riverside in Zona da Mata Mineira, next to Furtado de Campos town, Rio Novo’s district, in the arms of Dona Berlamina and Seu Joaquim? Who would be the child who learnt the first letters with Dona Milota, and who made a pact with a comet of only leaving this world in its tail when the comet returned? This boy made himself a man and discovered himself as a typographer apprentice, who later, on the brownish river bed of the Paraibuna wrote about trams, old houses, and Juiz de Fora’s history and its myriads of characters. This research focused on the book Chronicles: Paulino de Oliveira (2001), aims to check out the origins of the deep intent to unravel Juiz de Fora’s pathways and make them registered history in chronicles. Moreover this paper proposes to (re)discover the chronicler Paulino de Oliveira and (re)visit in his writings the writer and memoirist which (re)signified each part of the city through observation to describe acts and facts of a beating Juiz de Fora at the turning of the 19th to the 20th Century. At that moment of the city the intellectual life was on the rise and by consequence many newspapers with serialized stories appeared registering the first writings of some who would become renowned literates in the Brazilian scenery. The research of Paulino de Oliveira’s production and his place as an author amongst his peers is the same as to research the thin limit of literature and journalism. The theory which is the basis to this research is exploratory, bibliographical and documental, having its pillars on the works of Antônio Olinto, Jornalismo e literatura [Journalism and Literature] (1955), Alceu Amoroso Lima, O jornalismo como gênero literário [Journalism as a Literary Genre] (1969), Antonio Candido, A maioridade da crônica [The Chronicle in its Adulthood] (2014), e Milton Santos, Por uma outra Globalização: do pensamento único à consciência universal [Toward an Other Globalization] (2000). All these works aim to elaborate a relationship between journalism and literature, as well as scribe and writer, supported by archival theory and theories of memory.

[en] CLARICE: THE DIALOGUE WITH HER READERS IN THE JB NEWSPAPER / [pt] CLARICE: O DIÁLOGO COM OS LEITORES NAS CRÔNICAS DO JB

IVANA MENDES CARDOSO BARRETO 15 July 2004 (has links)
[en] Clarice Lispector: Talking to Readers in a Newspaper Column analyses the relationship Clarice Lispector established with her readers through the weekly crônica (literary column) she wrote for the Rio daily Jornal do Brasil from 1967 to 1973, examining how brevity and other characteristics of newspaper writing allowed her to move increasingly closer to her public. The need for a lighter touch imposed by the column format gradually changed her writing - much of which consisting in extracts from her novels or short stories - from words of exile to words of communion. Throughout this trajectory from secrecy to freedom, Lispector herself was her own main character, and her readers - with whom she claimed to correspond - may have been present as characters too. The works produced during this period, collected in A descoberta do mundo (The Discovery of the World), are the object of analysis of this dissertation, which shows how Lispector used her column to practice intratextuality in her literary production, rereading and rewriting her own texts.

Thiago José Diogo Alves Oliveira 27 September 2012 (has links)
This study aimed to analyze whether reading situations of narrative chronicles, dramatizations of these readings and productions of photo chronicles narratives built in text and image, can motivate students in reading practices in the classroom and collaborate to the development of the reading procedures of these students, thus being regarded as a model of ideological literacy in school. Also, it was aimed to verify if these practices could be considered meaningful and motivating for the reading teaching process of students of the eighth year of the basic education in a state school. The motivation for this research emerged from the observation of the difficulties of interaction between teacher and students in the classroom and by lack of motivation of the students regarding reading activities. The methodology leaned on the drama game (theater-image), by Augusto Boal, for the role plays of the readings and for the production of the photo chronicles, and on the students prior knowledge about the genre comics, by its association with the genre `photo soap opera. Such proposal was given based on the concepts of the autonomous and ideological model of literacy, sociocognitive theory of reading, teaching genres and theoretical premises of the teaching and learning process. The analysis was held through the data from twelve subjects of the interaction, which follow: three learning reports, one questionnaire on reading habits, and one questionnaire on the experiences undertaken and the production of the photo chronicles. It was also used, to compose these corpora, a record of the experiences, made by the teacher-researcher throughout the process. The results of this research pointed out that the activities developed could promote students motivation in reading practices, as well as collaborate for the developing of the reading procedures of these youngsters.

The French proverbs utilized as argumentation in art chronicles

Maria Tereza Guimarães Côrtes 20 October 2008 (has links)
The analysis of French proverbs as arguments requires a previous study of their origins, historical and cultural role and their characteristics. The main elements that differ them from other sentence genres are their sentence content, their fixed form that allows them to be recognized as an independent sentence, their implicative nature and their relationship with human nature. The proverbs in texts mainly act as a metaphorical trasnposition, but they have double semantic value permeating between the hipernymy and hyponymy sense. Additionally the genre subjectivity allows a débrayage of enunciative I on the basis of an unidentifiable enunciator and a number of previous enunciations, thus constituting an authority speech that derives from an unquestioned anonymous wisdom. All these linguistic properties cooperate with their argumentative force. To analyze the proverb as a form of argumentation, three proofs of Aristotelian rhetoric have been used : ETHOS considering the proverb as a symbolic element that creates the enunciator character on the basis of paroemiac tradition; PATHOS from the hypothesis of proverb analysis as an epistemic modality, working with the supposed lexicalities that would be involved in the discursive manipulation between enunciator and enunciatee; and, LOGOS constituting a reasonable proof from the argumentation premises on the bases of syllogism and enthymeme. The text genre chosen is the art chronicle in wich a proverb serves as an argument due to its non-temporal character, stylistic richness and importance as a means of contemporary communication that ironically and subtly contests and polemizes behaviors and social standards through art.

January 1999 (has links)
Abstract: Reading the chronicles written by Moacyr Scliar, a contemporary Brazilian writer, brought about this research. Moacyr Scliar's chronicles are published in the paper Folha de São Paulo and we selected the chronicles from March 16, 1995 to August 28, 1997 for analysis. His chronicles present analyses of the complex social reality demanding from the reader some complex processes of reading. Scliar selects news which are far from our common sense, and then he represents them in a fictional world where the tragic and comic effects make the reader chuckle. This work is a comparative study between the news and the chronicles aiming to reveal the parody recreation by Moacyr Scliar's chronicles and how the writer takes the facts from the news to put them into a literary form. / Mestre

Dům - kronika / A House – A Chronicle

Volf, Anna January 2015 (has links)
Diploma project “Chronicle House” is representing the creation of fictional historiographical interpretation of “the spirit of the place”. Rotunda is the columbarium The existence of object inside of the object, in this context, automatically creates a feeling of layeringness. The columbarium is oval shaped and the base level all the way by the perimeter consists of old windows from the panel houses, which were going through the process of modernization, particularly – change of windows. It serves now as a commemoration space. On the inside of the rotunda has been placed a museum of the ceased houses, where in the columbarium niches are placed models of these houses with the dates of birth and death, as well as with short epiphanies.

Literární a mytologické osudy postavy praotce Čecha / Literary and mythological trajectories of "Forefather Bohemus"

Deči, Vojtěch January 2022 (has links)
In his work, the graduate reflects the literary and mythological aspect of the founding figure of the "Forefather Bohemus" in the Czech literary environment. In the theoretical part of the work, he will think about the processes of mythology of history that take place around this character, and based on a comparison of key works he will present his own approach. The practical part will consist of interpretive probes into selected canonical texts: the chronicles of canon Kosmas, the so-called Dalimil and Václav Hájek of Libočany on the one side, and modern fictional works by Žofie Podlipská and Rudolf R. Hofmeister on the other. Keywords Forefather Bohemus; folklore; myth; national epic; chronicle.

'A High, Solid Wall': Haruki Murakami, National Identity, and Westernization

Vaughan, Christopher Pearson 06 June 2023 (has links)
Haruki Murakami is no stranger to criticism in Japan, having been described as 'Westernized' by Japanese critics for much of his career. The heavy use of Western culture in his novels seems to suggest that Murakami writes without attention to his nationality, as his books are devoid of references to Japan's popular and artistic canons, and his writing style and the genres he works within owe much to Western origins. Despite these characteristics, I argue in this thesis that Murakami has been unfairly labeled by scholars and critics and seek to show how the author deals directly with Japanese issues of national identity, middle-class disillusionment, and historical memory through his novel The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Murakami's importance as a Japanese author lies in his progressive outlook for Japan, in which he challenges loss of individuality under Japanese nationalism and pushes for a nation more in tune with the outside world. / Master of Arts / In this thesis, I address the popular claim that Murakami has ignored his Japanese identity by describing how Murakami works through various issues related to Japan in his novels. In my first chapter, I show how the author returns to the mindset of Japan's Meiji Era---an era in which Western themes and forms were incorporated into Japanese society while retaining 'Eastern spirit'---by his use of what Donald Keene calls Japan's 'virtuoso approach.' In my second chapter, I discuss the similarities between John Updike's Rabbit, Run and Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle to argue that Murakami uses characteristics of Western suburban literature to better express his thoughts on the tensions those in Japan's middle-class face under the nation's corporate environment. In my final chapter, I analyze Murakami's reception in Korea through a film adaptation of his short story "Barn Burning" and look at the ways he confronts Japanese history in The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle to show that Murakami acts to the outside world as a forward-thinking voice for Japan. I suggest that the significance of Murakami to the nation can be found in his attempt to confront and diversify Japan's narrowly-defined national identity and controlling structures.
