[en] INDEXES AND MARGINS FOR VOLTAGE SECURITY ASSESSMENT / [pt] ÍNDICES E MARGENS PARA AVALIAÇÃO DA SEGURANÇA DE TENSÃO

ROVER FIGUEIRO FRANCA 09 December 2003 (has links)
[en] This work presents a comprehensive and meaningful tool for voltage security assessment adequate for real time operational monitoring. With this tool it is possible to verify if the voltage is in the upper or in the lower region of the V, P,Q curve, as well as to quantify voltage stability margin. The emphasis of this work is on the development of margins, the distance in MVA from the current to the maximum loading, as well as on the analysis of the angle between the gradient vectors of active and reactive power flow leaving / arriving generation / load buses. It is shown the evolution of the indexes during a period of time that corresponds to a system-loading ramp. The Rio and Espírito Santo area of the Brazilian electric system was chosen for observation because its performance is strongly influenced by the co-ordination between the several types of internal and external existing controls. Also because this area represents a large load centre with an almost radial transmission system. The logic implementation of these control resources, characterised by controlled buses and voltage limits choice, respecting all the operational limits, reflected the operational experience acquired by system operators. It is verified the occurrence of extreme situations that could lead to voltage collapse in the network. It is also presented a study on the buses associated with series compensation on the Itaipu - Tijuco Preto bulk transmission path that present unusual values for the indexes. It is concluded that the computational method of voltage security assessment is adequate for real time operation, when the evolution of indexes related to different operation points are monitored.

Revisiting the chemistry of star formation / Revisiter la chimie de la formation stellaire

Vidal, Thomas 25 September 2018 (has links)
Astrochemical studies of star formation are of particular interest because they provide a better understanding of how the chemical composition of the Universe has evolved, from the diffuse interstellar medium to the formation of stellar systems and the life they can shelter. Recent advances in chemical modeling, and particularly a better understanding of grains chemistry, now allow to bring new hints on the chemistry of the star formation process, as well as the structures it involves. In that context, the objective of my thesis was to give a new look at the chemistry of star formation using the recent enhancements of the Nautilus chemical model. To that aim, I focused on the sulphur chemistry throughout star formation, from its evolution in dark clouds to hot cores and corinos, attempting to tackle the sulphur depletion problem. I first carried out a review of the sulphur chemical network before studying its effects on the modeling of sulphur in dark clouds. By comparison with observations, I showed that the textsc{Nautilus} chemical model was the first able to reproduce the abundances of S-bearing species in dark clouds using as elemental abundance of sulphur its cosmic one. This result allowed me to bring new insights on the reservoirs of sulphur in dark clouds. I then conducted an extensive study of sulphur chemistry in hot cores and corinos, focusing on the effects of their pre-collapse compositions on the evolution of their chemistries. I also studied the consequences of the use of the common simplifications made on hot core models. My results show that the pre-collapse composition is a key parameter for the evolution of hot cores which could explain the variety of sulphur composition observed in such objects. Moreover, I highlighted the importance of standardizing the chemical modeling of hot cores in astrochemical studies. For my last study, I developed an efficient method for the derivation of the initial parameters of collapse of dark clouds via the use of a physico-chemical database of collapse models, and comparison with observations of Class 0 protostars. From this method, and based on a sample of 12 sources, I was able to derive probabilities on the possible initial parameters of collapse of low-mass star formation.

Numerical prediction of cavitation erosion / Prédiction numérique de l'érosion de cavitation

Pineda Rondon, Saira Freda 01 September 2017 (has links)
Hydraulic turbines can experience cavitation, which is a phenomenon occurring when vapor bubbles collapse in the vicinity of the machine’s surface. This phenomenon can lead to negative consequences, such as erosion, that affect the machine’s performance. The compression of a non-condensable gas bubble in water is simulated with the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method following the Arbitrary Lagrange Euler approach (SPHALE), where a compressible and multiphase model has been developed. The model solves the mass, momentum and energy conservation equations of the Euler system using the Stiffened Gas EOS for water and the ideal gas EOS for the non-condensable gas inside the bubble. Both phases are modeled as compressible and the phase change is not considered. The meshless feature of the SPH-ALE method allows the calculation of multiphase flows where the interface is sharply defined. For cavitation applications, where the Mach number reaches values of 0.5, the distribution of particles must be corrected, which is achieved by the ALE feature. The compressible model was validated through monodimensional configurations, such as shock tube test cases for monophase and multiphase flows. The bubble compression close to the wall has been addressed as the fundamental mechanism producing damage. Its general behavior is characterized by the formation of a water jet and by the collapse of the bubble by itself. The phenomenon is analyzed by considering the major parameters that govern the bubble collapse dynamics, such as the initial distance between the bubble center and the wall (H0), the bubble size (R0), and the collapse driven pressure ratio (pw/pb). It is shown that the intensity of the collapse depends mainly on the pressure ratio between the liquid and the bubble (pw/pb). As well, four indicators, such as the pressure at the wall, the impulse, the water-hammer pressure and the water jet velocity, are used to determine the loading. This analysis gives that the bubble initially located at a distance lower than H0/R0 = 2 presents high potential to cause damage. In order to predict the damage due to the bubble collapse, the solid mechanics is analyzed through fluid-structure interaction simulations. It is obtained that the material reacts to the hydraulic loads by having compression and traction zones, suggesting that a fatigue mechanism drives the damage phenomenon. Additionally, it is found that the highest stresses are located below the material surface, indicating that this zone may reach plastic deformation.

Recomendações para projeto de lajes formadas por vigotas com armação treliçada / Recommendations for design of slabs with lattice reinforcement

Cunha, Mateus Ortigosa 09 August 2012 (has links)
Precast slabs are used in large scale in Brazil, special those formed by lattice reinforcement. Facilities handling and economy mold are some of the advantages of the system. The objectives of this work are: (a) improve study of the design of slabs formed by precast lattice reinforcement through a review of literature; (b) address topics a little spread regards to the calculation of precast slabs; (c) providing design recommendations through examples solved by addressing the main concerns of designers in the area. This example evaluate the slabs to initials and long-term deflections, vibrations and bending moment at the supports. The results are analyzed and compared with indications in the literature. It demonstrates the suscetibility of the slabs for vibrations caused by walking and shows the difficulty in following ABNT NBR 6118:2003. The maximum span for one slab of the aplication example is 28% slower than solid slabs with the same thickness in excessive vibration analysis. This dissertation emphasizes the importance of predicting reinforcement against progressive collapse and shows the increase in steel consumption is small compared to the total, for one slab of the example.

Modelação das deformações por colapso devidas à ascensão de lençol freático / Modeling of the collapse deformations due to rise of groundwater table

Rodrigues, Roger Augusto 07 December 2007 (has links)
A construção desta barragem e o subseqüente enchimento do reservatório elevaram significativamente o lençol freático, causando colapso do solo em algumas áreas. / This thesis presents a case history of soil collapse that took place during and after reservoir filling of Três Irmãos dam in Brazil. The construction of this dam and subsequent reservoir filling has raised the local groundwater table up to 20 m, causing soil collapse that affected many buildings. Many field and laboratory tests were conducted to determine potential risk and damage of existing buildings. The groundwater rise was monitored in some points of the region and the most susceptible buildings were also monitored specially for settlements. This work deals with the study of this case history of soil collapse, recovering existing information and performing additional suction controlled soil tests to characterize the non saturated soil behavior. This set of data was used to model the collapse settlement, considering the Barcelona Basic Model, BBM, (Alonso et al. 1990) as the soil constitutive model and the Code_Bright finite element program and, finally numerical results were compared with field ones. The thesis addresses soil parameters definition from laboratory and field tests, model calibration, sensibility analysis of the adopted model and it shows that the modeled results nicely fitted the measured values of collapse settlements. Amongst the many qualitative and quantitative findings, it is shown that collapse deformation arises from suction variation without saturating the soil and that the largest collapse rate is observed when the soil is gradually submerged. As the depth of influence of foundation load is very low compared to collapsible layer thickness, much of collapse deformation is the result of soil self weight, during equilibrium under the transient and final hydrodynamics condition.

Regularização e convergência da série de Mayer de um gás de Yukawa na região de colapso / Regularization and Convergence of the Mayer Series of the Yukawa Gas in the Region of Collapse

Kroschinsky, Wilhelm 03 October 2017 (has links)
We study the Mayer series for the bidimensional Yukawa gas. We briefly introduce the notion of a Mayer series of a non-ideal gas using cluster expansions and present some motivations on the dificulties this formalism may present. An algebraic formalism is introduced in order to develop an alternative tool to study this series using a majorant method via partial diferential equations. As the Yukawa gas is not regular at the origin, it should be regularized for the majorant method to be applicable. It is believed that the non-regularized Yukawa series presents divergence on its coeficients of order 2k when the inverse temperature > k := 8(2k - 1)/2k due to the collapse of neutral multipoles belonging to clusters of this order and if we omit these coficients, the convergence is obtained. Finally we study the convergence of the Mayer series of a bidimensional Yukawa gas when the regularization is removed when < 16/3 and we extend these results to < 6. Its is shown explicitly that the coeficient of order 2 diverges but can be regularized if < 6, assuring the convergence of the remaining series when the coeficient of order 2 is omitted.

Modelling Alternative Load Paths in Platform-Framed CLT Buildings : A Finite Element Approach

Huber, Johannes Albert Josef January 2019 (has links)
Timber has become more popular as a construction material during recent years. Engineered wood products, such as glued laminated timber and cross-laminated timber, have enabled the construction of multi-storey buildings. Tall buildings with many occupants need to resist a disproportional collapse in case of unexpected exposures, e.g. accidents or terrorism. Structural robustness can improve the collapse resistance of a building. The literature about robustness is comprehensive concerning concrete and steel buildings, but it is rather limited regarding timber. A robust building can mobilise alternative load paths in the structure after the removal of bearing building components. Alternative load paths rely primarily on the connections between components. For timber buildings, few investigations exist to evaluate the alternative load paths after a removal. Analyses usually do not take into account non-linear effects which could influence the capacity of alternative load paths, such as damage of single fasteners, friction,  timber crushing and brittle failure. In particular, the alternative load paths in platform-framed cross-laminated timber buildings are not well understood.  The goals of this thesis are to i) review the concept of robustness in general and determine the state of the art concerning timber buildings in particular, ii) develop a method to analyse the alternative load paths in a platform-framed CLT building taking into account relevant non-linearities, iii) use the method to elicit the alternative load paths in a building after a wall removal, and iv) study the effects of probabilistic variations of model parameters.  The thesis first introduces tall timber buildings and then presents a summary of structural robustness in a collapse resistance framework. The summary includes established analysis methods and specific considerations for timber, whereof a detailed review is provided in Paper I. Paper III additionally provides results of a survey on contemporary practices of professionals around the world concerning robustness.  In the subsequent chapter, the studied 8-storey case building made of platform-framed cross-laminated timber is described including the modelling abstractions. Additionally, the setup of a validation experiment for the modelling approach is described. The following chapter introduces the modelling approach for an alternative load path analysis after a wall removal. The approach is based on the finite element method using the commercial software Abaqus. The deterministic part of the approach includes a non-linear static pushdown analysis of single storeys in a bay and elicits the alternative load paths and their capacity. Finite connector elements in the model substitute single fasteners including their elastic, plastic, damage and rupture behaviour. The 3D models of the walls and floors account for timber crushing, brittle failure and contact friction. A simplified non-linear dynamic model of the entire bay uses the pushdown results as inputs and evaluates the collapse progression among storeys after a sudden element removal. The probabilistic part of the approach models the uncertainty of the input parameters of the dynamic model by varying the parameter values in a Monte Carlo simulation, to evaluate the probability of a collapse.  Paper II applies the approach for a simple pushdown of a single storey and Paper IV applies the pushdown and the dynamic analysis to elicit the alternative load paths after a single wall removal. The thesis shows furthermore the results of a double wall removal in the example building and the results of the Monte Carlo analysis for the single and double wall removal.  For the assumed removals, the developed approach could identify the alternative load paths, determine their capacities and estimate the probability of a collapse under probabilistic variations. The approach might be used to classify various removal scenarios in platform-framed multi-storey cross-laminated timber buildings specifically and predetermine design solutions which could provide a desired level of robustness. The approach might be generalised for multi-storey timber buildings of various construction types.

[en] ADEQUACY INDEXES OF VOLTAGE CONTROL ACTION FOR VOLTAGE SECURITY CONDITION REINFORCEMENT / [pt] ÍNDICES DE ADEQUAÇÃO DAS AÇÕES DE CONTROLE DE TENSÃO PARA REFORÇO DAS CONDIÇÕES DE SEGURANÇA DE TENSÃO

BERNARDO HENRIQUE TODT SEELIG 07 March 2005 (has links)
[en] The lack of investments and the ecological matter have limited the expansion of the transmission system. This reality, together with the load growth, makes the electric systems to work heavy loaded. This new condition can lead to situations of voltage collapse. Methods for evaluation the transmission network loading became necessary and indispensable for understanding system performance under these conditions and for making possible secure operation. Analytic tools have been used to evaluate the voltage security of the system in real time. If it is evaluated that the system is not sufficiently secure in relation to voltage, control actions can be determined, in order to move the state of the system for a secure operation point. However, these tools are not the only need. The same control actions that can move away the system from a situation of voltage instability, can also have opposite effect and contribute for worsening the problem, perhaps leading to system collapse. Therefore, it is necessary the development of computational tools to evaluate the adequacy of these control actions. In this work it is proposed a computational tool, based on the linearized set of power flow equations, including equations for voltage control and limits, for the evaluation of the effect voltage control actions. Indexes that allow the evaluation whether the control action is adequate or not are obtained. The indexes can also evaluate the interdependence among the controls, because besides indicating the effect of the control action on the voltage of the controlled bus, they can also indicate the effect on the other voltage controlled buses. The indexes can be calculated in an extremely fast way, and are appropriate for use in real-time operation.

Colapso de edifício por ruptura das estacas: estudo das causas e da recuperação / Building collapse for piles rupture: study of the causes and recovery

Souza, Eduardo Gimenez de 11 April 2003 (has links)
Most of the buildings accidents, caused by project flaws or of execution, it happens in the construction phase. Besides causing financial damages, they put in risk the workers life. However, more serious accidents are verified after the end of the construction. Besides the damages are larger, they can involve all types of people, children, women and senior. In many cases the global building collapse elapses of foundation problems. That is the case of the building considered in this work, located in the north coast of São Paulo State. Treated of a building for summer vacation, in structural masonry, with garage in the earthy pavement and four floors of apartments, leaning in premolded piles, nailed in unstable soil. After the conclusion and partially in use, it presented repress and significant pathologies that demanded providences, column masonry reinforcement besides. Before detected the repress causes, during one dawn, the building tumbled: on a side of the building, the first pavement was leaned to the ground. Happily, it was a weekday, out of the high season, and there were not people inside. Also the watchmen was out of the building and nothing suffered, besides a great fright. The objectives of this healthy work are to describe the problem happened with that building, to analyze the causes and the possible providences for it recovery, since the superior walks practically nothing suffered. The results of a local investigation, an analysis for determination the efforts and the causes of the piles rupture will be presented, that provoked the building collapse. It was evident that the located embankment on the earthy pavement and the building foundation system, they were not adapted for the soil type of the land. Such factors had fundamental paper for the system rupture. The importance of knowing those causes thoroughly, transcends to present work, because for the same reason other constructions can present similar damages.

Estudo do máximo carregamento em sistemas de energia elétrica via método da barreira modificada / Study of the maximum loadability on power systems via modified barrier method

Zeferino, Cristiane Lionço 31 October 2006 (has links)
In this work the modified barrier Lagrangian function (MBLF) method, a variant of the interior point method. The formulation of the problem will have as constraints of equality the power system swinging equations, in a parametrized form, and as inequality constraints the voltage limits in the buses and the reactive generation limits in the buses with reactive control. The results found with the static optimization technique used in this study are confronted with the results obtained with the primal-dual barrier logarithmic method. The performance of the method is illustrated using as pattern the systems IEEE 14, 57 and 118 bars. The tests demonstrated the robustness and the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.
