Sales representatives play a critical role in the development and sustainability of their business through the selling of products and services. Burnout inclined stress caused by low job satisfaction could adversely affect business development and survival. This study thus investigated the influence of job satisfaction on burnout amongst medical sales representatives.
Two measuring instruments were used namely the Smith, Hulin and Kendall (1969) Job descriptive index (JDI) and the Pines, Aronson and Kafry (1981) Burnout index (BI). This study was conducted amongst 139 sales representatives working for a generic pharmaceutical organisation.
Through a literature study, job satisfaction and burnout were defined, and a link determined between the two constructs. An empirical study revealed the relationship between job satisfaction and burnout.
The results indicated a negative correlation between job satisfaction and burnout. Conclusions and recommendations were made regarding the enhancement of job satisfaction and the management of burnout among sales representatives. / Industrial & Organisational Psychology / M.A. (Industrial Psychology)

第一線服務人員與顧客接觸時,往往必須在工作中表現特定的情緒,進行所謂的情緒勞動。本研究主要目的是探討工作者進行情緒勞動時,其情緒勞動方式(表層偽裝與深層偽裝)的影響因素(組織承諾與情緒覺察)與其結果(工作倦怠三構面:情緒耗竭、去人性化、個人成就感,以及人際關係品質)間的關係,了解服務人員「組織承諾」與「情緒覺察」之高低是否與其在情緒勞動方式的使用程度有所關連;亦探討情緒勞動方式的使用程度與工作倦怠三構面、人際關係品質問是否有不同的關連。本研究以223位銀行行員為對象,採用問卷調查(自我評量與他人評量)的方式,進行假設之驗證。
研究結果發現組織承諾、情緒覺察與表層偽裝皆無顯著的關連性,而深層偽裝與組織承諾、情緒覺察間則呈現顯著的正相關。另一方面則發現表層偽裝僅與個人成就感則呈正相關,與情緒耗竭、去人性化無顯著的相關,此結果並未支持預期的假設;然而深層偽裝與情緒耗竭、去人性化呈現負相關,而與個人成就感呈現正相關,則部分支持假設;最後發現人際關係品質與兩種情緒勞動方式無關,並未支持假設。
最後針對研究發現進行分析討論,並提出研究建議,以供未來相關研究與工商企業的應用參考。

Regarding emotional labor, the purpose of present study was to investigate the relationships between two ways of acting (i.e. surface acting and deep acting), antecedents (i.e. organization commitment and emotion awareness), and the consequences.(i.e. emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, personal accomplishment, and the quality of interpersonal relationship). Specifically, the study examined the relationships between two ways of acting with organization commitment and emotion awareness. Moreover, the relationships between two ways of acting with emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, personal accomplishment, and the quality of interpersonal relationship were examined. To test the hypotheses, self-report and other-rating data were collected from 223 bank clerks through questionnaires.
The results suggested that surface acting did not have significant correlation with organization commitment and emotion awareness while deep acting had significant positive correlation with organization commitment and emotion awareness. Contradicting with expectation, surface acting was found to be positively correlated with personal accomplishment, but no significant relationship was found between surface acting with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. On the other hand, deep acting was found to have significant negative relationship with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and positive relationship with personal accomplishment. Finally, neither surface acting nor deep acting had significant relationship with quality of interpersonal relationship. Implications for future research and service work were also discussed at the end.

<p>This study examined three schools / namely a Public, Ex model C, and a Youth juvenile rehabilitation school. A non-experimental survey design was used for this study. The sample consisted of 47 educators across the three types of schools. Data was collected by means of two instruments: a demographic questionnaire, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) consisting of three subscales namely / Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, and Diminished Personal Accomplishment. It was hypothesised that due to the stressful nature of work in disadvantaged and resource lacking schools, as well as the unstable and unsafe environment in certain schools, burnout among educators in Public and Youth juvenile rehabilitation schools will have a higher prevalence rate than educators in Ex model C schools. The study also aimed to identify which various educator demographic variables correlate with high burnout levels. Correlational results of the study found no significant relationships between the three subscales of the MBI and certain educator demographic variables across the three types of schools. The results of an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test revealed a borderline non-significant difference in the Emotional Exhaustion subscale between the Youth juvenile rehabilitation school and Public schools. Post Hoc comparison tests suggested Public school educators in the sample had the highest levels of burnout in terms of Emotional Exhaustion across the three types of schools, while educators in the Youth juvenile rehabilitation schools showed the lowest levels of burnout in terms of Emotional exhaustion. The results of the present study were discussed from the perspective of the Conservation of Resources theory, suggesting resource depletion as a central facet to burnout and how prolonged stress leads to burnout. Future qualitative studies exploring the etiology of burnout was thus recommended.</p>

In the last stage of development of capitalism, transfers of businesses are frequent. For this purpose, legal systems have regulated procedures to protect creditors and shareholders. In Peruvian legal system, the General Law of Corporations regulates these kinds of transfers through mergers, divisions and reorganizations. However, those operations influence in employment relationships because of the translation of its productive organizations. Even though, there is no regulation to determine the consequences of transfer in these kinds of relations in an organizational way, this legal gap is tend to be solved through the application of the principle of continuity developed by Peruvian jurisprudence.In this short paper, it defines the concept, elements, and the effects of the transfer of an undertaking from the perspective of labor law, giving special attention to the analysis of what the author calls “collateral “ or unwanted effects transfer , as aspects that go beyond the principle of continuity to safeguard labor rights. / En la última fase de evolución del capitalismo es frecuente el uso de operaciones comerciales de traspaso empresarial, para la cual los ordenamientos jurídicos han regulado procedimientos facilitadores, donde se ha puesto énfasis en la protección de acreedores y de titulares de acciones o participaciones de las sociedades. Así en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico, la Ley General de Sociedades contiene disposiciones que regulan la transmisión de empresa a través de operaciones mercantiles como fusiones, escisiones y reorganizaciones. Sin embargo, estas operaciones inciden también en las relaciones laborales, toda vez que suponen el traspaso de la organización productiva. No hay regulación que determine de forma orgánica las consecuencias de la transmisión de empresa en las relaciones laborales, laguna que ha pretendido ser cubierta a través del principio de continuidad, desarrollado jurisprudencialmente. En este trabajo de corta extensión se delimita el concepto, los elementos, y los efectos de la transmisión de empresa, desde la perspectiva del derecho del Trabajo, dando especial relevancia al análisis de lo que la autora denomina efectos “colaterales” o no deseados del traspaso, como aspectos que superan la aplicación del principio de continuidad para la salvaguarda de derechos laborales.

An investigation into the relationship between spiritual intelligence, emotional intelligence, coping ability, and burnout among humanitarian aid workers in ZimbabweNharirire, Edwin 02 1900 (has links)
This study examined the relationship between spiritual intelligence (SI), emotional intelligence (EI), coping ability (CA), and burnout (BO) among humanitarian aid workers in Zimbabwe. A convenience sample of 296 (53% males and 47% females) humanitarian aid workers was used in the study. Correlation and multiple regression analyses were used to explore the contribution of SI, EI, and CA to the burnout. Results indicated that SI, EI, and CA are all significantly related to Burnout and its dimensions of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalisation (DP) and personal accomplishment (PA) in humanitarian aid workers. CA and EI significantly contributed to the variation of scores in EE and DP whereas SI did not. However, all the three variables significantly contributed to the variation in PA. Gender, age, employment status and tenure in NGO had no significant relationships with EE, DP, or PA whereas contract type, length of service, educational level and nature of work were associated with statistically significant differences in EE, DP, and PA. The research contributed to the understanding of burnout among aid workers in Zimbabwe. Humanitarian organisations can use the findings to come up with scientifically backed recruitment, selection, training, and staff wellbeing policies and programmes that help to reduce the impact of burnout in the humanitarian aid sector. / Psychology / D.
