No. of bitstreams: 1 Jackson Costa Oliveira.pdf: 4684943 bytes, checksum: 904a659ca5d94259f93b749ac19a2792 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-12-01 / The issue: authorship, it is of great relevance in the digital revolution, moving a vast array of debates in society. We identified that this value is manifested in the design of digital interface so expressive, and more specifically, the use of this value to the development of collaborative virtual environments. We found that these measures can increase greats benefits to social development and design in turn, would be the connection between the user and the field of technology innovation and science. We understand in this study, cases in which authorship in interface design can encourage collaboration between users of digital networks, in favor of an approaching to understanding of what it is for the designer acting to contribute to the development of this framework delimiting. These questions were conducted based on the inquiries from Foucault, Barthes and Michael Rock about the authorship, the considerations of Pierre Levy, Steve Johnson and Lucia Santaella to the ramifications of cyberspace, and the placement of Gui Bonsiepe about design in the digital age. Among other authors who were important in development. Finally, we conclude that the designer s role in this context is of essential importance, and that the demonstration through the critical approach to the designer value of mediated authorship, attaches to the development of design projects for collaborative media interface, the application field innovation networks to these conditions by allowing the user to more natural interaction with cyberspace / A temática: autoria torna-se de grande relevância na revolução digital, movimentando uma vasta ordem de debates na sociedade.

A Real-Time Merging-Buffering Technique for MIDI Messages

Chang, Kuo-Lung 12 1900 (has links)
A powerful and efficient algorithm has been designed to deal with the critical timing problem of the MIDI messages. This algorithm can convert note events stored in a natural way to MIDI messages dynamically. Only limited memory space (the buffer) is required to finish the conversion work, and the size of the buffer is independent of the size of the original sequence (notes). This algorithm's real-time variable properties suggest not only the flexible real-time controls in the use of musical aspects, but also the expandability to interactive multi-media applications. A compositional environment called MusicSculptor has been implemented in terms of this algorithm.

Estudo de parâmetros de design para a otimização da inserção de textos em português em teclados virtuais de dispositivos móveis de pequenas dimensões equipados com telas sensíveis ao toque / Study of design parameters for the optimization of the insertion of texts in Portuguese on virtual keyboards of mobile devices of small dimensions equipped with touch screens

Pirk, Marcelo de Carvalho 19 April 2017 (has links)
This study seeks to identify, in the context of Portuguese text entry, determinant variables and parameters for the Qwerty keyboard interface design optimization. Considering that the primary data source is the final user, this research attempts to understand how adequate are the various keyboard systems and configurations to users\' habits and culture, taking into account the differences between English (language used to define the Qwerty layout) and Portuguese. In this research, two experiments and one survey were carried out with 3,5\" to 6\" smartphones users, boundaries that encompasses the majority of the devices equipped with the keyboard types targeted to be analyzed. In the first chapter the problem was contextualized and the spectrum of the research was defined. The second chapter presents the history of the Qwerty keyboard, since its development (when the typewriters were being created) to the use in smartphones, shows important singularities of Portuguese language and an overview of related studies. In the third chapter the methods applied in this research were shown: the survey was carried out with 302 participants to find how they cope with different aspects of the use of smartphones; the two experiments involved the recording of 17 users interacting with the keyboard in different kinds of tasks, text transcription with varying device configuration and free text production in the participant\'s own device. The fourth chapter presents the analysis of the data obtained in the different stages of the study that involved interaction with users and the fifth chapter shows the conclusions made base on the data analyzed. Results showed that great part of the devices present the keyboard ruled by the Qwerty layout, which limits the size and the mapping of the keys most used for text insertion. It was also noted that those who use their devices with greater flexibility are more fluent in the use of the keyboard and create shortcuts to cope with limitations imposed by this interface. These users tend to give the keyboard a better evaluation. The results also showed that a efficient use of the interface would not be tied specifically to typing speed, but rather to the individual typing rhythm that, when disturbed, contributes for the occurrence of errors. In this sense, it was noted that copy tasks, because it involves constant monitoring of the text to be copied, tend to produce pauses in the typing process, which increases the probability of touches landing in different keys than intended. This type of error, most common, appeared to be tied to key usage and, thus, seem to be inevitable. Error preventing and correction, this way, are fundamental for the usage of virtual keyboards in small devices. Results showed that the use of typing assistants, however, could modify the way users type and, in some cases, contribute to the increase of error occurrence.

Implementation and Evaluation of Bluetooth Low Energy for Musical Devices / Implementation och utvärdering av Bluetooth Low Energy för musikenheter

Ljungström, Andreas, Panikian, Jack January 2016 (has links)
This paper presents the possibility to transfer Musical Instrument Digital Interface messages overBluetooth Low Energy. The main problem was to transmit the messages between two computers inless than 10 milliseconds. Anything above 10 milliseconds could be noticed as a delay by the personplaying or listening to the music. A prototype was written which could transfer Musical InstrumentDigital Interface messages over Bluetooth Low Energy between two Linux-computers together with atesting framework which was used to make measurements. The prototype was written in the languageC++ with the BlueZ library. The time it took for one packet to travel back and forth from the computerswas clocked to get an estimation of the time it took for a packet to travel from one computer to theother. The measured results showed that it was possible to reach the desired time of 10 milliseconds. The results can also be used when considering development of other kind of equipment and/or applicationsthat implements the use of Bluetooth Low Energy.

A Computational Framework for Interacting with Physical Molecular Models of the Polypeptide Chain

Chakraborty, Promita 08 May 2014 (has links)
Although nonflexible, scaled molecular models like Pauling-Corey's and its descendants have made significant contributions in structural biology research and pedagogy, recent technical advances in 3D printing and electronics make it possible to go one step further in designing physical models of biomacromolecules: to make them conformationally dynamic. We report the design, construction, and validation of a flexible, scaled, physical model of the polypeptide chain, which accurately reproduces the bond rotational degrees-of-freedom in the peptide backbone. The coarse-grained backbone model consists of repeating amide and alpha-carbon units, connected by mechanical bonds (corresponding to phi and psi angles) that include realistic barriers to rotation that closely approximate those found at the molecular scale. Longer-range hydrogen-bonding interactions are also incorporated, allowing the chain to easily fold into stable secondary structures. This physical model can serve as the basis for linking tangible bio-macromolecular models directly to the vast array of existing computational tools to provide an enhanced and interactive human-computer interface. We have explored the boundaries of this direction at the interface of computational tools and physical models of biological macromolecules at the nano-scale. Using a CAD-biocomputational framework, we have provided a methodology to design and build physical protein models focusing on shape and dynamics. We have also developed a workflow and an interface implemented for such bio-modeling tools. This physical-digital interface paradigm, at the intersection of native state proteins (P), computational models (C) and physical models (P), provides new opportunities for building an interactive computational modeling tool for protein folding and drug design. Furthermore, this model is easily constructed with readily obtainable parts and promises to be a tremendous educational aid to the intuitive understanding of chain folding as the basis for macromolecular structure. / Ph. Requisitos para a concepção de interfaces digitais disponibilizadas a usuários de ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem: um estudo a partir dos contextos de uso / Requirements for the design of digital interfaces made available to users of virtual learning environments: a study from the contexts of use

Rodrigues, Laudiceia Lino de Alencar 25 September 2018 (has links)
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been important allies in the development of activities inherent to the teaching-learning processes. Particularly, the Learning Management Systems (LMSs) have made feasible to offer didactic information contents, in a systematic and organized way, by using digital interfaces that are available to users of these systems. In this sense, taking into account such users (students / learners) as protagonists of the teaching-learning processes, and understanding the importance of information mediation and its appropriation in such processes, the main goal of this work was to investigate requirements for design these interfaces, by checking the specificities found in use\'s contexts. The research, with a qualitative approach and exploratory nature, was conducted with literature analysis and case study involving a LMS used in teaching technical (vocational) subjects. Among the results, it is highlighted the proposal of a guide comprehending functional and non-functional requirements to be applied in the design of digital user interfaces for LMSs. It was concluded that, in order to such interfaces to work as a \"mediation space\" and aid in the information appropriation, in their implementation and presentation, it must be taken into account a set of variables that are specifics with the users\' contexts.

Designs for Learning in an Extended Digital Environment : Case Studies of Social Interaction in the Social Science Classroom

Kjällander, Susanne January 2011 (has links)
This thesis studies designs for learning in the extended digital interface in the Social Science classroom. The aim is to describe and analyse how pupils interact, make meaning and learn while deploying digital learning resources. Together with the thesis a multimodal design theoretical perspective on learning has developed: Designs for Learning. Here learning is understood as multimodal transformative processes of sign-making activities where teachers and pupils are viewed as didactic designers. A model called Learning Design Sequence has been developed and serves as a tool for data collection and analysis. Video observation material from five ICT-advanced schools with pupils aged 6-17 was multimodally transcribed and analysed. In conclusion the thesis, among other things, indicates that: - Social Science acquires informal features and pupils are independently designing their own digital Social Science material. - Pupils’ interactions are significantly multimodal and the digital learning resource becomes a third element in interaction. Pupils are constantly active and very responsive to each others’ representations. They cooperate as if learning in the extended interface is a collective responsibility. - Pupils’ learning is also significantly multimodal. Being digital natives, they engage in colours, sounds and images to represent some of their learning. - Learning represented in modes other than text and speech becomes invisible and disappears in the digital divide. - Pupils are simultaneously designing parallel paths of learning. One path represents the formalised education which is the path initiated, promoted and assessed by the teacher. The other path is guided by pupils’ interests and by affordances in the digital interface. This represents the extended learning that goes on below the surface.           The thesis ends with a discussion about didactic complexities in The Online Learning Paradigm. / At the time of the doctoral defense, the following papers were unpublished and had a status as follows: Paper 1: Accepted. Paper 5: Submitted.

The translator tools for the creation of a bilingual dictionary of Energy : www.lexiterme.com

Demgne kamdem, Floriane 15 November 2016 (has links)
Mots-clés : terminologie, dictionnaire, base de données, analyse de corpus, lexicographie / At present, the key issue is that of energy transition, smart cities, connected objects, renewable energy... We wanted to create this dictionary in order to provide concrete answers to some challenges faced in this sector. The aim was to show some tools used by the translator or linguist to create a bilingual dictionary available online. Nevertheless, given the multitude of software in the market, we have decided to delimit the experimental phase. We opted for among other SDL Trados Studio 2011, Trados 7 Freelance, TermoStat, TerMine and Multiterm. The theories and books of renowned linguists, including Wüster, Gouadec or Nolet, inspired our thoughts. We also opted for a method that is both explanatory and experimental. Our corpus of 130 pages has allowed us to extract a total of over 3,000 terms on two different tools. Software proved to be restrictive depending on the volume of the project or even the editor of the Software. It turned out that the automation of the corpus analysis certainly helped to save time, but the choice of terms could be questioned. The English - French bilingual dictionary www.lexiterme.com is already available online although at this point, it is still a pilot version. Keywords: terminology, dictionary, database, corpus analysis, lexicography
