Integration of digital technology in the film industry of Bangladesh : readiness and response functions

The objective of this study is to understand how the integration of digital technology (DT) in the Bangladesh Film industry has been responded to by its production, distribution and exhibition related organisations. Since no research on digital integration has been considered in a developing country context, and specifically within the area of concentrating on the industry rather than the films themselves, this research therefore addresses the gaps within the knowledge field. The Bangladesh Film Industry (BFI) used to be a centre for film production, distribution and exhibition, but this traditional industry has been in decline for decades. In response to the decline, the government started an integration process of DT in 2003, yet eight years after the launch only a fraction of the project has been completed. Apart from its partial adoption in the film production sector, distribution and exhibition have appeared to resist the adoption of new technology. This thesis therefore sets out to explore the causes of partial integration of DT in the film industry in Bangladesh through a study of the workforce, business owners, practitioners, scholars, government officials and executives functioning in and outside the industry. With the mixed method approach and emphasis on qualitative engagement (two case studies and 38 interviews), this thesis explores current attitudes and beliefs and identifies potential barriers to effective integration. In particular this dissertation examines five areas: technology integration, training for workforce development, production, distribution and exhibition capabilities, and argues that the political factor was the most important driver in integrating DT, while knowledge integration, training, and development of digital production, distribution and exhibition compatibility at individual and organisational levels were ignored. Moreover, the greatest concern of losing a job or business within the industry community due to inadequate knowledge, skills and finance is impeding the possibility of full completion of the integration process within the industry. Overall, two important contributions of this research include 1) an exploration of factors that impeded progress of the film industry in responding to the DT and 2) a formulation of some suitable recommendations to overcome the challenges in order to completely realise the integration of DT within the Bangladesh Film Industry. However, further research is recommended to investigate whether completion of the integration process will save the industry from decline or not.

This is a case study that seeks to identify which are the transformations imposed by the insertion of digital means in human beings¿ daily lives, also its implications in contemporary architectural thought, genesis and production. Finally, it intends to study projects that address such reflections. The research¿s main goal is to investigate how the conception of architectural projects may be amplified in order to correspond to the intrinsic complexity of the new modes of being that are inherent to the post-industrial society of the 21st century. In this context ¿ in an atmosphere in which more and more the digital supports are linked to the human existence ¿ the intention is to understand the interrelationships between concrete and virtual in the configuration of a new spatiality. Thus, the work presents a reflection that stems from a few selected contemporary projects ¿ prototypes and experiments which retrieve questions that derive from the conceptual universe of virtuality ¿ whose drawing and/or concept are inseparable from virtual environments, considering these projects as spatialities which are possible or not to materialize. Creating Value in Multi-Actor Environments : Understanding the value propositions of digital service ecosystems

This paper explores the value propositions that exist within ecosystems comprised of organizational and individual actors. The concept of value in general and how value is cocreated in multi-actor networks is explored by using service-dominant logic. The ecosystem is further framed by the intrinsic traits of digital technology as portrayed in The Layered Architecture of Digital Technology. Together, both of these framing conventions create what the paper refers to as a digital service ecosystem. In order to understand the important characteristics of a digital service ecosystem this paper analyzes a case study involving several actors participating in an ecosystem project in northern Sweden. This paper identifies six overarching themes that serve as the basis for three value propositions. A model is introduced as a way to simplify the understanding of each value proposition and how they interact with one another.

Questa tesi descrive una modalità parsimoniosa di organizzare l'ampia evidenza prodotta in questi ultimi anni nel campo della salute mentale digitale. A tal fine, viene presentato il framework DIU (D per diffusione, I per miglioramento e U per comprensione). Questo quadro teorico è applicato al campo specifico della regolazione delle emozioni (ER) per i disturbi emotivi. L’obbiettivo è quello di fornire una descrizione dell'attuale cambiamento della psicopatologia e evidenziare il ruolo della ER come meccanismo di cambiamento transdiagnostico e transteorico. A tal fine, viene fornita una revisione di tutti gli sviluppi esistenti in ciascuna delle categorie del quadro DIU. Ogni sezione propone nuovi risultati empirici che mostrano come le terapie digitali possano aiutare a migliorare l'ER nei disturbi emotivi. Per realizzare tali contributi empirici, sono stati utilizzati svariati disegni di ricerca e diverse soluzioni statistiche a seconda dei diversi contesti in cui gli studi sono stati condotti. Nel complesso, questa tesi stimola la discussione su alcuni degli attuali dibattiti nell’area della psicologia clinica e suggerisce risposte teoriche ed empiriche al fine di migliorare il campo. / This dissertation describes a way of organising parsimoniously the ample existing evidence that has been produced along these years in the field of digital mental health. For that purpose the DIU framework is presented. That is, D for dissemination, I for improvement and U for understanding. This framework is applied to the specific field of emotion regulation in emotional disorders. In that sense, it presents a description of the current psychopathological transformation in order to outline the role of emotion regulation (ER) as a transdiagnostic and transtheorical mechanism of change. A review of all the existing developments in each of the categories of the DIU framework are described. Each section presents novel empirical results that show how digital interventions may serve to improve ER in emotional disorders. These empirical contributions used a variety of research designs and statistical solutions depending on the different contexts in which the studies were conducted. Overall, this dissertation boosts the discussion concerning some of the current debates in clinical psychology and suggests theoretical and empirical answers in order to improve the field.

Engelskundervisning och digitala verktyg : En kvantitativ studie om lärares användning av digitala verktyg i sin engelskundervisning / The EFL classroom and digital tools : A quantitative study of teachers’ usage of digital tools in the EFL classroom.

Tidigare studier har granskat vilka svårigheter lärare har med integrering av digitala verktyg i sin undervisning. Studierna visar att många lärare som ofta använder sig av modern teknik utanför skolan och kan hantera det på hemmaplan, inte vet hur det ska användas som ett pedagogiskt och didaktiskt verktyg. De visar också att det finns en koppling mellan användandet av digitala verktyg i undervisningen och biologisk ålder på läraren. En studie visar att äldre lärare har mindre erfarenhet och sämre självförtroende i användandet av digitala verktyg i jämförelse med yngre lärare. Detta togs som inspiration då den här undersökningen, istället för att undersöka yngre respektive äldre lärares användning av digitala verktyg, är att undersöka engelsklärares användning av digitala verktyg i anslutning till antalet år de varit yrkesverksamma. En kvantitativ studie utfördes i form av en webbenkät som skickades ut till en grupp på Facebook där majoriteten av medlemmarna är engelsklärare. Enkäten består av 14 frågor och har behandlat svar från 87 respondenter. Resultatet visar att engelsklärare använder sig av digitala verktyg i stor utsträckning i undervisningen. Studien visar också att engelsklärare som varit yrkesverksamma kortare tid har mer erfarenhet och starkare självförtroende i användandet av digitala verktyg i undervisningen. En stor majoritet av lärarna som svarade på enkäten uttrycker behov av fortbildning inom området och majoriteten av engelsklärare anser att digitala verktyg påverkar elevers engelskinlärning på ett positivt sätt. Studiens teoretiska ramverk grundar sig i John Deweys progressiva pedagogik och hans pragmatiska syn på lärande. / Earlier studies have examined what difficulties teachers have when integrating digital tools in their teaching. These studies show that many teachers, who correctly and frequently use modern technology in their everyday life, do not know how it may be used as a pedagogical and a didactical tool. They also show that there is a connection between the usage of digital tools in teaching and the age of the teacher. A study shows that older teachers have less experience and lower self-confidence when using digital tools. This came as an inspiration as the aim with this study, instead of biological age, is to investigate Swedish EFL teachers’ usage of digital tools in connection to the number of years in the profession. A quantitative study was conducted in the form of a web survey that was sent out to a group on Facebook where the majority of members are Swedish EFL teachers. The survey consisted of 14 questions and gathered answers from 87 respondents. The result shows that Swedish EFL teachers use digital tools to a great extent in teaching. The result also shows that EFL teachers in Sweden who have been professionals for a shorter period had more experience and stronger confidence in the use of digital tools in teaching. A large majority of the teachers who answered the questionnaire expressed the need for further training with digital tools and the majority of Swedish EFL teachers think that digital tools affects students’ English learning in a positive way. The theoretical framework of the study is based on John Deweys’ progressive pedagogy and his pragmatic view on learning.

Optimera, eller inte? : Faktorer som påverkar inställningen till användning av SEO hos SME / Optimize, or not? : Factors that influence SME's attitude towards the use of search engine optimization (SEO)

Studier visar att kunskapen och erfarenheten av marknadsföring inom små och medelstora företags (SME) till stor utsträckning är ganska dålig. Det finns inga riktlinjer för hur SME inom byggbranschen bör arbeta med marknadsföring och hur företagen bör överväga att digitalisera marknadsföringen för att kunna nå ut till en större potentiell kundgrupp. Dessutom nämns att fler människor börjar använda sig av internet och i takt med detta så blir det allt viktigare för SME att följa med i den digitala utvecklingen. Därför är det viktigt att undersöka vilka faktorer som påverkar SMEs inställning till användandet av sökmotoroptimering (SEO).    Tidigare studier visar att det finns ett flertal faktorer som påverkar inställningen hos SME att använda SEO. Ett antal av studierna är skrivna tidigare än år 2015 och efter litteratursökningen, så finner vi inga senare studier inom det berörda området om vad som påverkar processen för införandet av SEO hos SME inom byggbranschen som en kontext.  Data har samlats in genom sju utförda intervjuer med lika många företag. Insamling av data har skett via digitala intervjuer tillsammans med personal som har god insikt i företagets strategier för digital konsumentpåverkan. Data har sedan analyserats genom en kvalitativ innehållsanalys tillsammans med tidigare studier inom området.   Studiens resultat identifierade tre teman vilka var ekonomi där faktorer såsom finansiella resurser och branschens inställning innefattas. Det tekniska temat med faktorerna, andra digitala marknadskanaler och snabbare etablering samt temat kunskap där faktorn inställning hos medarbetare belyses. Flertalet av de identifierade faktorerna bekräftas av vad tidigare forskning bidragit till samtidigt som nya fynd har gjorts. Efter en analys av faktorerna så kom vi fram till att varje enskild faktor kan ha en direkt inverkan för valet hos SME att införa SEO som ett verktyg för digital konsumentpåverkan. Resultatet visade på att faktorerna ofta samspelar med varandra och verkar växelvis i processen att införa SEO i verksamheten. / Studies show that the knowledge and experience of marketing in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is to a large extent quite poor. There are no guidelines for how SMEs in the construction industry should work with marketing and how companies should consider digitizing marketing in order to reach a larger potential customer group. In addition, it is mentioned that more people are starting to use the internet and in step with this, it is becoming increasingly important for SMEs to keep up with digital developments. Therefore, it is important to examine the factors that influence SME's attitude towards the use of search engine optimization (SEO). Previous studies show that there are a number of factors that affect the attitude of SMEs to use SEO. A few of the studies were written earlier than in 2015 and after the literature search, we find no later studies in the relevant area on what influences the process for the introduction of SEO at SME in the construction industry as a context. Data have been collected through seven interviews with as many companies. Data collection has taken place via digital interviews together with staff who have good insight into the company's strategies for digital consumer impact. Data have then been analyzed through a qualitative content analysis together with previous studies in the field. The results of the study identified three themes which were economics where factors such as financial resources and the attitude of the industry are included. The technical theme with the factors, other digital market channels and faster establishment as well as the theme knowledge where the factor attitude of employees is highlighted. Most of the identified factors are confirmed by what previous research has contributed to while new findings have been made. After an analysis of the factors, we came up to the conclusion that each individual factor can have a direct impact on the choice of SME to introduce SEO as a tool for digital consumer influence. The results also showed that the factors often interact with each other and act alternately in the process of introducing SEO into the business.

Görandet, processen och utförandet av att göra inköp av dagligvaror med digital teknik kan bli begränsat när kunskaper och färdigheter utmanas i aktiviteten hos äldre personer. Syfte: Att beskriva aktiviteten inköp av dagligvaror både digitalt och i verkliga livet ur äldre personers perspektiv. Metod: En Scoping review genomfördes i databaserna Scopus, Cinahl, ProQuest Central samt Google Scholar och Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE) för grålitteratur. Manuella sökningar och fritextsökning gjordes också. Totalt inkluderades 18 artiklar som granskades och sammanställdes genom numerisk och tematisk analys.  Resultat: Resultatet beskriver en översikt utifrån de tre huvudteman med tillhörande underteman; Hinder vid utförande av att handla dagligvaror, Äldre personers upplevelse av att handla dagligvaror med stöd av digital teknik samt Stödjande strategier vid inköp med digital teknik. Slutsats: Denna studies övergripande bild minskar kunskapsluckan om hur arbetsterapeuter kan arbeta strategiskt och möta de krav och behov som ställs hos äldre personer i utförandet av aktiviteten inköp av dagligvaror med digital teknik. Vidare kan den bidra till ökad inkludering av digital teknik i samhället hos äldre personer. / Grocery shopping in a digitalized society from the perspective of older persons Introduction: Society is becoming increasingly digitalized, and people are living longer. The doing, process and performance of grocery shopping with digital technology can be limited when knowledge and skills are challenged in the activity of older people.  Aim: To describe the activity of grocery shopping both digitally and in real life from the perspective of older people. Method: A Scoping review was conducted in the databases Scopus, Cinahl, ProQuest Central, and Google Scholar, Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE) for gray literature. Manual searches and free text searches were also performed. A total of 18 articles were included, which were reviewed and summarized through numerical and thematic analysis. Results: The results describe an overview based on the three main themes with associated sub-themes; Barriers in performing grocery shopping, Older people`s experience of shopping for grocery with the support of digital technology and Supportive strategies when shopping with digital technology.  Conclusions: This study´s overall picture reduces the knowledge gap on how occupational therapists can work strategically and meet the requirements and needs of older people in the performance of being able to conduct the activity of buying groceries with digital technology. Contribute to increasing the digital inclusion of older people in society.

Denna studien syftar till att ta reda på hur förskollärare resonerar kring digital teknik samt hur de integrerar digitala verktyg i sin undervisning. Studiens syfte har undersökts genom kvalitativa intervjuer med 4 stycken förskollärare från två olika förskolor. Det datamaterial som samlats in har behandlats med kategorisering som analysmetod. Resultatet visar att förskollärarna har en oro kring användandet av de digitala verktygen men de ser ändå arbetet med digital teknik som något bra och intressant. Slutsatsen av undersökningen visar att användandet av den digitala tekniken är begränsad hos många förskollärare på grund av brist på kunskap men viljan och intresset till att lära sig finns. / This study aims to find out how preschool teachers reason about digital technology and how they integrate digital tools in their teaching. The purpose of the study has been investigated through qualitative interviews with 4 preschool teachers from two different preschools. The data material collected has been treated with categorization as an analysis method. The results show that preschool teachers have a concern about the use of the digital tools, but they still see the work with digital technology as something good and interesting. The conclusion of the study shows that the use of digital technology is limited in many preschool teachers due to lack of knowledge, but the will and interest to learn exists.

Começamos tecendo considerações sobre o uso de tecnologias digitais em sala de aula e sobre as possibilidades de explorar a arte como ferramenta de enriquecimento dos processos de ensino e de aprendizagem matemáticos. Passamos pelos aspectos teóricos das isometrias no plano e, em seguida, explicamos a atividade na qual baseia-se o presente estudo, realizada com 101 alunos da primeira série do Ensino Médio de uma escola particular do Rio de Janeiro, RJ. Apresentamos, ainda, o feedback de parte dos(as) alunos(as) participantes, nossas impressões sobre esse feedback e a descrição detalhada das etapas da atividade, que pode ser aplicada tanto em turmas de Fundamental II quanto de Ensino Médio. / [en] This work presents a proposal for teaching geometric transformations, more specifically, translation, rotation and reflection isometries. We start by considering the use of digital technologies in the classroom, and the possibilities of exploring art as a tool to enhance mathematical teaching and learning processes. Next, we describe the theoretical aspects of isometries in the plane, and then explain the activity on which the present study was based. The activity was carried out with 101 1st grade high school students in a private school in Rio de Janeiro, RJ. We also present the feedback from part of the participating students, our impressions of this feedback, and the detailed description of the stages of the activity, which can be applied both in elementary and high school classes.
