Consumer decision-making and image theory: Understanding the socially responsible consumer.

Nelson, Kim Allen. January 1994 (has links)
Many consumers are now considering the effects of general corporate behavior (e.g., political views, charitable contributions, environmental disasters) and of the product's manufacture, consumption or disposal (e.g., animal testing, ecological harm) on society's overall well-being. These situations involve the issue of individual social responsibility and are good examples of complex decisions that are not readily explained by traditional decision theories. Abstract attributes (e.g., product "greenness" or lack of harm to the environment) and the active role of the decision maker's values, principles, and ethics are problematic. The primary purpose of this research is to develop a conceptual framework for consumer decision making in the presence of a social responsibility issue. The secondary purpose of the study is to assess the value of image theory for explaining the decision process. Image theory (Beach and Mitchell 1987; Beach 1990), a relatively recent development in decision making, provides a compatible decision framework for these types of decisions due to its emphasis on an individual's values and on the screening of alternatives using value-laden attributes. Survey methodology and consumer preference tasks are utilized, and the hypothesized models are tested by structural equation modeling. The findings suggest that image theory provides a credible explanation of socially responsible consumer choice. In terms of this study's context, a consumer who has a strongly held social responsibility principle, values a clean environment, has a high level of environmental concern, and believes that his/her actions make a difference, is more likely to be committed to a pro-environmental plan of action and to use certain decision processes. These specific processes are screening alternatives to eliminate those that are not environmentally friendly and weighting the greenness attribute heavily in evaluating options. Using image theory's terminology and structure, social responsibility and environmental value form the value image. Environmental concern and perceived consumer effectiveness form the trajectory image. The strategic image is reflected in the plan (commitment to pro-environmental behaviors) and tactics (using the social responsibility attribute in the decision process). This research demonstrates that enduring values and principles guide consumer behavior involving social responsibility issues.

This was only one of the several institutions he created, as the missionary worked in the Provinces of Paraíba, Pernambuco, Ceará, Alagoas and Rio Grande do Norte, where besides charity houses, he created hospitals, cemeteries, reservoirs and churches. Neverthless, Santa Fé is of relevance because Ibiapina chose to spend there his last days, which were the ones after his legs were paralyzed, and also because he viewed it as a model to other houses. To a better comprehension of this imagery, we cared to extensively contextualize the daily routine of the institution, and thus documents that regulated it as well as letters that commented the way it worked supported our action. Before that, we analyzed the man that created this institution, just as we did with the way his early biographers described him, as in their accounts they revealed the everyday life of Província of Paraíba as well as the way Father Ibiapina related to the Catholic Church. Finally, we finished this work with a Durandian mythcritics of the letters and documents that regulated Santa Fé in order to identify the founding myths that intersperse the imagery of this institution and of its creator.

Silva, Virginia Macedo de Souza 25 July 2014 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-17T15:02:13Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 1933222 bytes, checksum: a5468415ed69d69b97e184f7629ec4a0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-07-25 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The imagery organizes the images produced by homo sapiens in their anthropological path. This process occurs in psychophysiological level interaction with the cosmic environment and cultural, or vice versa. In this process, the imagination has the function of euphemization, that's why man creates images and symbols to mediate the harsh reality of time and the inevitability of death. Regarding the phenomenon "population in street situation", it is understood as being a group of people that lives in the streets and of it, usually, of their own will, or for reasons beyond his will. Crisscrossing these two concepts, this study aimed to analyze the symbolic images produced by people on the street to identify their religious imagery. The research subjects are housed in Casa de Acolhida of the City of Joao Pessoa and people living on the streets at the Mercado do Peixe of Tambaú in João Pessoa-PB. As a theoretical contribution, we used the General Theory of the Imagery (GTI) developed by G. Durand who supported the analysis of the images. We also seek the input of Discourse Analysis (DA) of the french line, with the concepts espoused by Foucault. The study was developed from the fieldwork that is one of the designs of the qualitative method. The research instruments were the Life History of the deponents and the implementation of a semi-structured interview, which allowed the collection of data relating to the religious imagery of the people on the street. In developing the survey, we could understand the formation of religious images from reflexology and arquetipology; we understand that modern man has the need of (re)encounter with the sacred, possibly, because spirituality is part of its constitution. The study results indicated that the religious imagery of the people on the streets in João Pessoa-PB features a convergence of daytime and nighttime images, since these images pointed upwards, towards the light and at the same time, indicated fall. These images are typical of the antithetical scheme - Daytime Conditions. On the other hand, the images converged to the center, to the intimacy of the house and the cup that are the expression of the euphemization of negative images from living on the streets. The religious imaginary the people in street situation analysis here unveiled, still, the religion an under prospective prism regarding the search for better days and a resignation about your own destiny. In this connection between utterances, we found the religious discourse crossed by syncretism and by pluralism with greater emphasis on images of Christianity.

Spinelli, Jonathan Tesch January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this research was to investigate the potential relationship between guitar practice memorization and imagery skills (mental practice through witch it is possible to create virtually real sensory experience). Nine guitarists were submitted to memory testes with sensory feedback privation through one Control condition followed by three experimental conditions: Motor (aural feedback absent), Aural (motor feedback absent) and Visual (both motor and aural feedbacks absent). After ten practice trials of the music pieces design specifically for the tests, the guitarists then played in normal performance conditions what they memorized. The subjects memorized less on the Motor and Visual experimental conditions compared to Aural and Control, what points to the importance of aural feedback during the practice of new piece when it concerns the memorization process. Comparing the memorization tests with aural imagery tests results showed that subjects with stronger imagery ability were less affected by feedback absent on memorization tasks, keeping the performance on every test condition. This data suggests the importance of aural imagery ability and corroborates with the idea that musicians can beneficiate of such skill on memorization process.

Interdependent relationships between the mental representation and psychophysiological correlates of action / Inter-relations entre la représentation mentale et les corrélats neurophysiologiques du mouvement

Ferreira Dias Kanthack, Thiago 27 September 2018 (has links)
The main purpose of the present work was to add substantial data regarding the psychophysiological correlates of action with respective mental representation. A total of six experimental protocols were developed to understand the mechanisms of using motor imagery concomitant and after actual practice, and the effects of exercise on motor imagery ability. According to our findings, motor imagery can very be usefull when performed concomitant with actual practice and even after an exercise session, when fatigue is most present. We demonstrate that higher levels of motor imagery ability are not always linked with greater performance enhancement. Unprecedentedly, we reported that an exercise session might even be beneficial for motor imagery ability of high-automated task. In addition, prolonged intermittent exercise session are more likely to impair motor imagery ability in comparison with continuous exercise. These findings are of special interest of sports coaches and rehabilitation professionals, which usually incorporate motor imagery into their physical training sessions

Childrens image creations and art meetings in preschool : A qualitative study of the attitude and role of five preschool teachers to image creations and art meetings and its place in preschool

Kahn Zeidan, Linda January 2019 (has links)
Semantic Segmentation of Oblique Views in a 3D-Environment

Tranell, Victor January 2019 (has links)
This thesis presents and evaluates different methods to semantically segment 3D-models by rendered 2D-views. The 2D-views are segmented separately and then merged together. The thesis evaluates three different merge strategies, two different classification architectures, how many views should be rendered and how these rendered views should be arranged. The results are evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively and then compared with the current classifier at Vricon presented in [30]. The conclusion of this thesis is that there is a performance gain to be had using this method. The best model was using two views and attains an accuracy of 90.89% which can be compared with 84.52% achieved by the single view network from [30]. The best nine view system achieved a 87.72%. The difference in accuracy between the two and the nine view system is attributed to the higher quality mesh on the sunny side of objects, which typically is the south side. The thesis provides a proof of concept and there are still many areas where the system can be improved. One of them being the extraction of training data which seemingly would have a huge impact on the performance.
