A mulher e o poder da heteronormatividade: uma discussão no contexto escolar / Womem and the pwer of heteronormativity: a discussion in the school contextLisis Fernandes Brito de Oliveira 27 August 2010 (has links)
The study investigates the dynamics that guide the interactions among homosexual and bisexual women in the school environment, looking within the school aspects of vulnerability and potential of educational practices related to human homosexuality, in particular, to lesbianism. The methodology used in this research is qualitative and its methodological approach to conducting focus groups with students of high school classes of the training course for teachers of public education. Three focus groups were conducted with the participation of twenty-one female adolescents, and these groups, we analyzed the stories of seven young people with life experiences more meaningful to the themes of interest for this study. We conclude that there is great resistance from educators to discuss issues of sexuality with their students, as well as by parents regarding their children. Young women often experience cited experiences of discrimination because they are homoafetivas. You can understand this phenomenon the light of prejudice and sexism exist in societies heteronormative ending by hindering dialogue when attempting to address the issues facing the different sexual orientations in family and school environment

Female Sexual Orientation: Behavior and Developmental HistoryVan Buskirk, Susan Swann 08 1900 (has links)
The present study investigated female sexuality by examining a range of experiential, historical, attitudinal, and behavioral variables, and conceptualizing sexual orientation along several dimensions on a heterosexual/homosexual continuum. The focus was on determining what, if any, important etiological factors emerged, as well as differences in behavior, attitudes, and preferences among women with various sexual orientations. It was concluded that a nonconventionality factor could be interacting with certain experiential and situational variables to produce a bisexual or homosexual lifestyle. Consequently, the ideosyncratic variable nature of such a paradigm could partially explain inconsistencies in past research. Results of this study were comparable to previous ones indicating that the women were similar (across sexual orientations) in their emphasis on emotional aspects of a relationship, history of heterosexual dating and coitus, few (relative to males) sex partners, and a less (than males) actively assertive sexual pattern of behavior. Future research might include males in the investigation of the role of a nonconventionality factor in sexual orientation. Also, relationship between cognitive/perceptual styles and sexual orientation could be explored.

[en] BAD GIRLS, NAKED WOMEN: ADELAIDE CARRARO AND CASSANDRA RIOS IN BRAZIL`S LITERARY SCENE / [pt] MENINAS MÁS, MULHERES NUAS: ADELAIDE CARRARO E CASSANDRA RIOS NO PANORAMA LITERÁRIO BRASILEIROPEDRO DE CASTRO AMARAL VIEIRA 25 August 2010 (has links)
Procuraremos mostrar
sejam a crueldade, o idealismo, a aspiração à pureza. / [en] This study addresses the works of Adelaide Carraro (1925-1992) and
Cassandra Rios (1932-2002), often referred to as the greatest pornographers of
Brazilian literature, an epithet of dubious distinction. They were best-selling
authors, especially in the 1960s and 1970s, and were also among the most
censured during the last dictatorship (1964-1985). Their vast bibliographies are
linked by a passion for the visible, which is proper to the naturalist tradition,
and by a daring sexual content. This study will show, however, that the two
authors had distinct and to a large extent contrary aims. Their literary projects,
which maintained a significant level of internal cohesion over a long period of
constant activity, combined transgressive and conservative elements in a way that
challenges interpretation. Premised on the notion that critics should take full
account of their objects of inquiry, this study breaks new ground by exploring a
number of novels of each author, as well as interviews and press commentary.
This study questions the scant body of previous criticism that easily associates
their novels with emancipatory movements or excludes them altogether from the
realm of literature. At the same time, this study brings to light oft-ignored features
of these works, such as cruelty, idealism, and aspirations to purity.

The Prediction of Homophobic Attitudes among College StudentsSchatman, Michael E. (Michael Edward) 08 1900 (has links)
A review of the literature on homophobia indicates that negative attitudes toward homosexuals and homosexuality have been empirically related to numerous socio-demographic and attitudinal variables. Research to this date has focused on the relationship between individual variables and homophobia rather than examining multiple variables simultaneously. The purpose of the present investigation was to identify the factors which are predictive of homophobia. One hundred and ninety-four female and 115 male participants completed a biographical information questionnaire requesting socio-demographic information, self-proclaimed religiosity, frequency of church attendance, self-proclaimed political orientation, and political party identification. Participants also completed measures of attitudes toward male homosexuality, attitudes toward lesbianism, attitudes toward women, authoritarianism, sex anxiety, sexual attitudes, and socio-economic status. Statistical treatment of the data through principal components analysis indicated that homophobic attitudes are best predicted by a factor identified as "conservatism". Other factors were identified which predicted homophobia to a lesser extent. Male participant gender was determined to predict homophobia toward male homosexuals, but gender was not found to predict homophobic attitudes toward lesbians.

Women's negotiation of alternative sexualities in the Western Cape: A Cape Town case studyMitchell, Sharrone CJ January 2012 (has links)
Masters of Art / This mini thesis is an exploratory study of the lived experiences of bisexual and lesbian women in the Western Cape with regard to how they claim agency and negotiate their individual sexualities. Using mixed methodologies this study aims to look at the ways in which bisexual and lesbian women negotiate their sexuality in a landscape dominated by heterosexual discourses. Also considered are the contradictory ways in which these women assert their roles as lesbians and bisexual individuals and how these roles serve to simultaneously reinforce and challenge the dominant order of heterosexuality. The conflicting views of the respondents are documented which further demonstrates the complexities surrounding sexuality. This research identifies and explores both international and local research already conducted on alternative sexualities and address the lack of black researchers' conduct of these studies on the African continent. The study also records an
acknowledgement of the researcher's reflection that she too holds contradictory views on some of these issues.
