Kvinnligt och manligt språkbruk i personliga brev : En kvalitativ studie om hur kvinnor och män framställer sina egenskaper i personliga brev

Ring, Linda January 2019 (has links)
In previous linguistic research, it has been found that there is an indirect relationship between gender and language usage. It has also been found that men and women use language in a distinctive way in their work role. There is a lot of research, both in the gender sciences but also in the linguistics, which has examined the difference in how men and women express themselves in writing. How the difference between the sexes can also be seen from a writing perspective is something that interests me and so in my study I chose to look at how men and women express themselves and portray themselves in personal letters. It is an area that interests me and looking at personal letters to job ads is something that there is not so much previous science around and I believe that more science in this specific area may be supportive in recruitment in the labor market in the future. The aim of my study is to see if there are differences in how men and women portray their characteristics in personal letters. My study is based on the following questions: Are person´s characteristics portrayed in personal letters by means of material or relational processes depending on gender? How do men and women portray their characteristics in personal letters versus the job advert´s qualifications? With the help of SFG and Impression Management I got answers to my questions. My study links to theories around SFG where the focus is mainly on processes. The study also links to Impression Management and Hirdman´s (1998) theory of the gender system. The results of my study show that there are differences between how men and women express themselves in writing. Women often produce their characteristics through relational processes and thus identify themselves with their characteristics. Men have a tendency to express their characteristics through material processes, which means that they identify themselves through actions. In contrast, my results do not support previous research that says that women appear more sensitive and vague while men appear more powerful. My results also show that women express more characteristics than men who are also linked to the job advertisement qualifications.

Anagnosis: automatisierte Buchstabenverknüpfung von Transkript und Papyrusabbildung

Damiani, Vincenzo January 2016 (has links)
In recent years many institutions holding papyri have put images of their collections online, while transcriptions previously published in print are now hosted in the Digital Corpus of Literary Papyri. Anagnosis aims to provide an intuitive and easy-to-use web interface between those images and related digitized texts. The main goal lies in automatic data processing and text-recognition accuracy: Through a dedicated OCR algorithm, letters on the image are identified with single boxes and thus linked to the transcription. A coordinates system of the glyphs on the image can then be transferred and applied to each new image uploaded for the same text section. Once all character boxes are generated, Anagnosis can extract a sample alphabet that users may rearrange to virtually restore lost parts of text directly on the image.

Vikten av patientinformation inför en MR-undersökning : En litteraturstudie / The importance of patientinformation before magnetic resonance imaging : A literature review

Alexandersson, Helena, Larsson, Amanda January 2021 (has links)
Introduction: Inadequate information to patients prior to an MRI examination can lead to patients becoming nervous, stressed and feeling discomfort and thus absent from booked appointments or choosing to cancel their examinations. With clear information to the patient before the MRI examination starts, it increases the patient's understanding before the visit. This can mean that patients arrive at their booked times and thus have the opportunity to get answers to unclear thoughts based on the written information with the help of an X-ray nurse before the start of the examination. Aim: The purpose of the study was to compile the information given to patients prior to an MRI examination and the importance of the information. Method: The study conducted is a general literature review, where the articles were retrieved from the databases Pubmed and Cinahl. The study includes both quantitative and qualitative articles, which in turn have been quality reviewed and included in the work. Results: 10 articles have been divided into three categories:such as written information, verbal information and digital information. The results of the study show that anxiety and stress in patients may cause motion artifacts with poor image quality as a result, need for repeated examinations, that the patient chooses to interrupt or refuses to go to the camera. Through a combination of written, verbal and digital information, it increases understanding and security in a better way than just written information. Conclusion: The area is important to highlight as information prior to MRI examination not only relieves stress and anxiety but also provides security to the patient and greater opportunity to get the best quality of examination and imaging possible. The study indicates that there is a need for further research in order to be able to investigate what information the patient lacks prior to their MRI examination, in order to increase well-being. But there are great opportunities to be able to use preparatory information for MRI examinations in the form of apps and VR in the future.

[en] ON MY MOTHERNULLS SIDE: AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL REFLECTIONS / [pt] POR PARTE DE MÃE: REFLEXÕES AUTOBIOGRÁFICAS

10 December 2003 (has links)
[en] The purpose of this thesis is to reflect on questions relating to the autobiographical genre within the contemporary perspective of biographical studies, a perspective that has been legitimizing these discourses situated at the margins of literary canon. The object of analysis is a testament/letter and a few photographs. The 317-page document was written by Camilo Cândido de Araújo, my maternal grandfather, between September 14, 1969 and January 26, 1970, and it was addressed to his eldest son. The epistle - a memoir in content - is a legacy from a father to his son; it is a form of autobiography that, besides having been written in the final years of the authors life, played a fundamental role in his own life history. Based on this recently found material, reflections are made on matters pertinent to literature as epistolary and autobiographic writings, the necessity of writing, and memory. The relationship between the biographer and his subject is the starting point for highlighting the maternal lineage. The family photographs serve as a counterpoint to the text, as a supplement to the material in question.

Antifonář sedlecký a česká malba 13. století / Anthiphonary of Sedlec and Czech painting of the 13th century

Šubrtová, Jana January 2011 (has links)
Painting decorations of the Sedlec Antiphonary manuscript (Prague, NK ČR, XIII A 6) serve as significant evidence for art painting development in Central Europe during the cultural changes, when Late Romanesque style evolved into Gothic. The aim of the thesis is to submit profound art-historical analysis of the Sedlec Antiphonary manuscript, which is stored in National Library of the Czech Republic in Prague, call number XIII A 6. The main method of this work is the careful study of painting decorations in the manuscript, in terms of both analysing their layout in general and typology of the single ornament motifs. Among other methods are formal analysis, comparison based on typology and iconography analysis. Similarities of the manuscript and works of the same time of origin, such as Mater verborum manuscript (Prague, KNM, X A 11) or Wolfenbüttel sketch-book , are also taken into consideration. Due to this comparison could be proved that the author of the Sedlec Antiphonary was probably influenced by Byzantine, Venetian and German painting styles. The Sedlec Antiphonary represents an important and practically key work in the context of painting development in the 13th century. Keywords book painting, miniature, initial letter, Women at the Sepulcher, 13th century

The experience of students who identify as Jewish and Greek : influences on spiritual development

Froehlich, Alexandra D. 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Seven percent of the national four year college population is involved in Greek Life (Microsoft Encarta Online Encyclopedia, 2008, ~5) with over sixty percent on some campuses (Finkel, 201 0). An often unexamined aspect of collegiate learning pertaining to this context is students' spiritual development, yet this is a vital part of a student's life throughout college and critical to whole student learning (Love & Talbot, 2005). Students report a high level of interest in spiritual activities while struggling with existential questions on a regular basis (Higher Education Research Institute, 2003). Most social fraternities and sororities embrace Christian ideals, making the spiritual development of non-Christian students involved in Greek Life a unique challenge. Focusing on the spiritual development of Jewish students within these social organizations is important because until the mid-twentieth century, there were restrictive membership clauses barring Jewish students from becoming active members of multiple fraternities and sororities founded on Christian ideals (Callais, 2002). The purpose of this study was to examine the unique dichotomy created by students who do not participate in the systemic religious views of a majority of Greek Life organizations; specifically focusing on students of Jewish faith in primarily Christian based Greek letter organizations. The students interviewed show a richness of experiences and information finding that Jewish students (1) identification as spiritually or culturally Jewish defines college experiences, (2) find sanctuary and community with other Jewish students and in groups such as Hillel, (3) who interact with faculty and staff that identify with their heritage feel a sense of belonging on campus, (4) struggle with campus dining practices, (5) face academic penalties due to practice of faith traditions, (6) did not feel welcome or comfortable at the local places of worship, and (7) in Greek letter organizations felt · excluded or challenged because of the founding ideals.
