Prvky fin-de-siècle v románu Flanna O'Briena Třetí strážník / Fin-de-siècle Elements in Flann O'Brien's Novel The Third PolicemanBrymová, Petra January 2014 (has links)
This thesis concerns the similarities between Flann O'Brien's novel The Third Policeman and fin-de-siècle literature, more specifically decadent literature and literature of the early avant-garde. The fact that, apart from metafiction, O'Brien's novel does not deal with aesthetics (neither when it comes to the form nor when it comes to the topic) does not invalidate the presence of fin-de-siècle elements or strategies in it; the elements only change and thus adapt to their new environment. Many of them become ironic, other ones actively contribute to the metafictional scope of the novel. The first chapter explains the parallels between The Third Policeman and fin- de-siècle literature in general. It concentrates primarily on decadent literature and its central theme of "unnaturalness." Unnaturalness occurs in variegated forms, such as artifice, artificiality or make-believe. Unnaturalness can be detected also in the protagonists themselves and even (in compliance with the metafiction of the novel) in the form of O'Brien's hellish world where the narrator finds himself. Discovering and experiencing various forms of unnaturalness go hand in hand with sense perception which is what the chapter also refers to - The Third Policeman remarkably reflects descriptions of sense experiences known from...

Interpretace románu Spas Ivana Matouška / Interpretation of the novel Spas by Ivan MatoušekMalá, Lucie January 2016 (has links)
The master thesis discusses the novel Spas by Ivan Matoušek published in 2001. The description of the structure and narrative time of the novel is followed by a characterization of the ironic self-conscious narrator and his relationship to the fictional world and the main character. The interpretation is partly inspired by a theoretical paper on irony by Vladimir Jankélévitch, which is compared with Paul de Man's concept of irony. The thesis also refers to Linda Hutcheon's theory of self- reflexivity and metafiction and employs the concept of mise en abyme.

The Tripartite Tributaries of UshCognevich, Alicia 17 December 2011 (has links)
Inspired by Vladimir Nabokov’s metafiction novel Pale Fire and with Joseph Campbell’s research in comparative mythology and religion in mind, I explore the act of mythmaking and the composition of metafictional text in this work of fiction. The myth aspect combines elements of Classical, biblical, medieval, Romantic, and original materials to form a product that should strike readers as both familiar and alien, demonstrating Campbell’s notion of the monomyth as well as the ongoing tradition of mythmaking that continues to captivate both readers and writers. The metafictional portion of the text emphasizes a reader’s relationship to a work of fiction, a scholar’s relationship to his or her scholarly work, and a subtext’s relationship to its primary text. Combining the texts encourages the reader to read critically and reevaluate his or her conceptions of genre in order to piece together the greater story of tyranny and rebellion.

This dissertation refers to Machado de Assis novel, his reflection on the novel genre and the fiction narrative presented on his work. It seeks to analyze the writer`s different narrative proposals. Machado de Assis led the discussions about the Brazilian literature through critical interventions and offered alternative approaches to the author from his generation on his essays Notícia da atual literatura brasileira instinto de nacionalidade (1873) and A nova geração (1879). Afterwards, the author began to render into fiction his reflections about the novel genre, especially on his opus after 1881. The Crisis on the title denotes the 1870s when Machado sought to come to terms with the novel genre, though a conflicted conciliation seeking an audience and disagreeing with the set models. Destruction refers to the novel series beginning with Posthumous memoirs of Bras Cubas. This study analyzes the novel comparing and contrasting the production of fiction in the 1870s using a synchronic frame from the novels publishing times. Based on that, the aim is to learn his problematizing perspective on the genre.

Hatoum (2005) is about the reminder report of the Amazon history built by
the redesigning of time and space connections. Dissolving the inventive past,
correspondent relations between chronotopes and anachronism articule the
writing of memory experience to the narrator characters in metafictional labor
without marking social and geographic frontiers. In this event, the artistic
and epistolary genres have a mediator role in the hybrid speech of the relate
between narrators, and characters while sharing the communication among
the past memories, felicity appeal, and future dreams of a new Amazon. The
demonstration of metafictional construction of Cinzas do Norte relate is
announced in a triadic context: in the errant frontiers of the time, space and
place, in the bivocal discurse of the letters, and the visual art, and in the
physical and human space up dated by the ironic and parodic discurses
questioning supports of historical-social chronotope. The reached
interpretation expands the history of Amazon by the semantic ambiguity, by
the historical critical and the poetic revitalization of ecologic and humanist

No desfazer
paródico, suportes do cronotopo histórico-social. A interpretação alcançada

Previous issue date: 2009-09-25 / This essay aims to discuss the historiography metafictional in the books A Casca da
Serpente, by José J. Veiga and Sete Léguas de Paraíso , by Antônio José de
Moura, based on theoretical studies of Hayden White, George Lukács, Linda
Hutcheon and Aristóteles, among others. Initially, discuss the conception of history
and literature and their respective discourse. Then make a soon evolution of the
novel, emphasizing the similarities and distinctions between the historical novel, and
historiography metafiction. To be Worth to the features of this, especially the parody,
irony and eccentricity, to analyze the novels selected in order to prove that the
discourse historiography metafictional recurs in their plots, A Casca da Serpente ,
and Sete Léguas de Paraíso . Complementing this interpretation, we resorted to
some aspects of symbolic and metaphorical in order to enhance and strengthen the
proposed objectives. He drew a parallel between the narratives of the active corpus
with reference to the theory explained by Bakhtin in Problems of Dostoevsky's
poetics. At the end of the study, emerged as the literature has the power to subvert
the story, transforming it into other discourses, making it take a new look, taking the
reader to reflect and challenge the components of historiography discourse.
evolução do romance, enfatizando as semelhanças e distinções existentes entre o
romance histórico e a metaficção historiográfica.

Previous issue date: 2013-12-13 / This presents research is a study of the novelistic metamorphosis in A Força do
Destino (1977), by Nélida Piñon. Its goal is to verify the narrative techniques
employed in this novel, to establish correlations reflections on intercultural and
discussing possible conclusions about the art of storytelling. The methodology
applied is the theoretical research of qualitative nature. As to the means of
investigation, it is a descriptive-explanatory literature since the work under
consideration is an artistic expression and analysis explains how the development of
the novel within the novel itself, typical case of historiographical metafiction occurs.
The method used is deductive, and start from the premise that Nelida Piñon, to
rescue the opera La Forza del Destino, by Giuseppe Verdi, reworks it in a parody
way from the perspective of the chronicler Nélida, the narrator-character, do either A
Força do Destino as simple mimesis. She breaks with the traditional Brazilian
narrative and therefore intensifies, selectively, certain trends in the post- modernism.
O objetivo é verificar e analisar as
A metodologia empregada é a
presentes no pós-modernismo.

Previous issue date: 2018-11-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Starting from a punctual study of the chronicle of Clarice Lispector, in its multiple faces of
revelation, the present research proposes to unveil the reflective and metalinguistic process of
its writing, passing through the fictionalized presence of the author, as well as her perspective
about the act of creation. The corpus of research is centered on the chronicles published
between 1967 and 1973, in the Jornal do Brasil newspaper and, later, collected in the book A
Descoberta do Mundo (1984). For this purpose, we examine the characteristics inherent to the
chronicle and how the writer works with this genre, then we grasp the issue of self-writing and
analyze how the reflections about the literary work are present in the space of the chronic. The
research is primarily analytical-reflexive and, in order to discuss the chronicle as genre, uses
articles by Antonio Candido, Davi Arrigucci and Marlise Meyer. In order to approach the
chronicle of Clarice, in particular, we use the studies by Nádia Gotlib and Walnice Nogueira.
About the presence of the writer in her writing, two key theorists on the subject were favored:
Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault. For the studies on autofiction and metafiction, the
following stand out among others: Philippe Lejeune, Diana Klinger and Linda Hutcheon,
whereas in the process of creative construction, our attention will focus primarily on Octávio
Paz and Leyla Perrone-Móises. In the Final Considerations, the chronicle is reiterated as a
scriptural testimony of the restless and questioning profile of the author observed and analyzed
throughout the research, as well as the creative and reflective mechanisms of her literary work / A partir de um estudo pontual da crônica de Clarice Lispector, em suas múltiplas faces de
1967 e 1973, no Jornal do Brasil e, posteriormente, reunidas no livro A Descoberta do
Mundo (1984).

A literatura infantil e o autoritarismo no século XX: um estudo comparativo entre Ruth Rocha e José Cardoso Pires / Children literature and authoritarianism in the twentieth century: a comparative study between Ruth Rocha and José Cardoso PiresMariano, Juliana Camargo 17 October 2012 (has links)
This work consists to dialogue the works of writer Ruth Rocha, Brazilian writer, and Jose Cardoso Pires, a Portuguese writer. From Ruth Rocha are used: O reizinho mandão, O sapo-vira-rei-vira-sapo ou o retorno do reizinho mandão, O rei que não sabia de nada, O que os olhos não veem; and from Cardoso Pires is used: Dinossauro excelentíssimo. We intend to show the relationship between fiction and reality in the countries involved working with these books. We started from the hypothesis that these works, written during the Brazilian military and Salazarism, contributed to the recognition of the importance of a democratic political system to bring freedom to the Brazilian and Portuguese nations. Our objective is also to demonstrate how the writers denounced the historical situations of the two countries, through the parody, the allegory and the carnivalization. The works analyzed are appropriate for junior readers as adult readers. Our research supports in works of Comparative Literature, Children and Youth Literature, Social and Political History of Brazil and Portugal.
