Petroglyph National Monument: Rapid Ethnographic Assessment Project

Evans, Michael, Stoffle, Richard W., Pinel, Sandra 14 January 1993 (has links)
The Petroglyph National Monument Rapid Ethnographic Assessment Project had two primary goals. One was the identification of those American Indian Tribes, Pueblos, and Spanish heritage groups who wanted to participate in a long -term consultation process with the National Park Service about the management of the new Petroglyph National Monument located outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The second goal was to document the cultural resource concerns of the Native Americans and the Spanish heritage people, so that protection of these cultural resources could be incorporated into the General Management Plan that the National Park Service is developing for the Petroglyph National Monument.

Preservation History of Art Nouveau Heritage in Hungary, Czech Lands and France

Zámbó, Lilla January 2013 (has links)
Preservation History of Art Nouveau Heritage in Hungary, Czech Lands and France Master Thesis Lilla Zámbó Abstract This master thesis discusses the preservation history of the most relevant architectural monuments of Art Nouveau from the perspective of different ideological and political systems of Hungary, the Czech Lands and France in the 20th century. The main objective of the thesis is to examine the influences of Art Nouveau in the society and vice versa through different heritage protection procedures and successful monument restorations, which took place in significant "Art Nouveau cities" of Europe: Budapest, Prague, Nancy and Strasbourg. The Art Nouveau style (1890-1914) was born as a reaction to the academic schools at the end of the nineteenth century and spread quickly by advertising a new architectural program, thanks to its special aesthetical, social and political contents. In order to satisfy the needs of the "modern" age and to create a better environment for the people, Art Nouveau broke with the previous dominant historical tendencies, not only in a mental way, but also in employing a new design and decorative elements. Thus the international practice-based, but locally unique and unprecedented works of the Art Nouveau were totally differing from the dominant eclectic townscapes, which is...

Monumento Deslocado / Displaced Monument

Pinzón, Néstor Marcelo Gutierrez 22 May 2009 (has links)
Inside USP\'s campus there\'s a monument of epic proportions, which contrasts with the place where it\'s located. It was displaced from it\'s original site and remains in the campus since 1972. This masters degree project proposes reflections about the memory issues placed by the displacement of the Ramos de Azevedo monument and the consequences of this movement. This reflections interpret the monument in relation to different contexts and moments: it\'s original site, USP\'s campus, a photographic album that registers its construction, and the project for a contemporary art exposition in the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, which\'s departure point was the displacement of the Ramos de Azevedo monument, produced by Delenguaamano, group which I\'m part of.

Os panteões Galo-Romanos nos pilares e \"Colunas de Júpiter\" / The Galo-Roman pantheons in the pilars and \"Jupiter Columns\"

Bina, Tatiana 10 March 2015 (has links)
Starting from issues about the provincial religiosity in the high Roman Empire, this work aims at raising and discussing the pillars, \"Jupiter columns\" and other types of correlated vestiges. The interest arisen by these monuments and their study by the bibliography of the XIX century established a \"topos\" still in use, which gives directions to the Gallic Roman archaeological and religious interpretations. With the theoretical assumptions of the post-contemporary debates and post-colonial theories and in order to understand the devotions and worship services, a series of analysis was made, with special emphasis on an iconographic approach.

The intent of this paper is to search through different documents to perceive how the Bento Gonçalves da Silva monument was built in the mid-1930s in Porto Alegre, explain from the appropriation of the farroupilha memories by the historians and intellectuals from Rio Grande do Sul. I want to grasp how was built the "stage" for the rehabilitation of the gaucho memory, and, to realize how this fact contributed to build a place of memory from the Farroupilha Revolution in Porto Alegre. To do so I seek to verify how the formation of the imaginary Brazilian way of the gaucho came to be, based in a regional hallmark. I begin from the theoretical and intellectual level and, searching through political practices , I get to the materialization of the memory in the bronze from the monument to Bento Gonçalves da Silva. In the end what can be seen in the monument is a memory that is perpetuated, and in each conjuncture reinforces the idea of "heroism" by the gaucho in the adjustment of the collective memory, therefore fostering the collective imaginary of the people from Rio Grande do Sul around the Farroupilha Revolution history.

: Criteria’s identification of heritage value for listed buildings by the analyze of its revocation since 1990

Couturier, Bastien 11 June 2018 (has links)
In France there are more than 44.236 listed buildings, whose diversity of architectural typolo-gies increased significantly these last decades (industrials buildings, modern constructions, etc.). However, this diversification will entail the loss of criteria specifying the monuments which are meant to be preserved. This doctoral thesis is thus focused on the processes of pat-rimonialisation and on selection rules of buildings considered for listing. To be precise, this study relates to the opposite fact: thereviews, the cancellations of protections and therefore the delisting of buildings, in France, since 1990. This research aims to highlight the intrinsic and extrinsic factors of delisting requests – a net increase, mostly in the city centres - and thus to get an overall picture of the situation on inheritance evolution and on process for listing or delisting.

Sedimentology and Taphonomy of the Abydosaurus mcintoshi Quarry, (Naturita Formation, Early Cretaceous, Latest Albian), Dinosaur National Monument, Utah

Holmes, Aaron Daniel 01 June 2017 (has links)
The holotypic locality of the brachiosaurid titanosauriform sauropod, Abydosaurus mcintoshi, is quarry DNM-16, located in Dinosaur National Monument. The bones are preserved near the base of a heterolithic, trough cross stratified to planar bedded sandstone channel complex. The trough cross to planar bedded sandstones mark times of variable flow with times of high flow velocity based on bones whose upper surfaces were eroded before final burial. The abundance of mud with the dominant medium to fine sand, and poorly confined sandstone channels indicate the bones were transported and buried in medial to distal intermittent flows of a distributive fluvial system. The quarry is at the base of the Naturita Formation, the base of which is latest Albian in age. The sauropods lived and died in the middle Cretaceous as the Cretaceous seaway advanced southward. The unconformity below the Naturita Formation and on top of the underlying the Ruby Ranch Member represents the LK-2 sequence boundary. The quarry produced ~260 bones, all of which represent Abydosaurus, except for several small theropod teeth, denoting a single catastrophic event acting on a group of sauropods. About one-third of the bones occur in close association or articulation, including three skulls (one articulated with the first five cervical vertebrae), five limbs, and strings of caudal vertebrae. There is no evidence of preburial weathering or breakage, and trample scratch marks are rare. More than 20% of the bones exhibit irregular, mm-scale pits occur on the shafts and the articular ends of limb bones are commonly hollowed out. The irregular pits are termite foraging traces, and hollows indicate extensive mining by these insects. At least seven individuals of Abydosaurus are present, representing at least two ontogenetic stages (juveniles and subadults).Together, these observations indicate the following: (1) the catastrophic death of a sauropod herd; (2) partial carcass maceration; (3) minor transportation, including articulated units (skulls, vertebrae, limbs); (4) rapid burial in migrating, ephemeral, branches of a distributary fluvial system; (5) channel migration resulting in in-situ scouring of the upper surface of some bones; (6) burial of scoured bones. Termite infestation occurred both prior to, and after, fluvial entrainment and burial.
