Plante, Manon 08 1900 (has links)
This M. A. thesis explores the link between the poetic principle of mezura (resistance to melancholic erosion) elaborated by the troubadours and the expression of mourning presented in Jacques Roubaud’s Quelque chose noir (1986). The first chapter aims at identifying how the relation to the photographs left by Alix Cléo Roubaud, photographer and deceased wife of the poet, mobilizes a melancholic imagination peculiar to the universe of the troubadours. It will be seen that the contemplation of the images makes it possible to initiate the memory of the disappeared. The second chapter examines the impossible dialogue, conceived in terms of writing as much as of orality, maintained with the deceased through the reprise of fragments of the diary of Alix Cléo Roubaud. By making poetic space a memorial place, the inexpressible of mourning is paradoxically a source of transmission. Finally, the last chapter explores the links between the formal structure of Quelque chose noir and the medieval form of the partimen, more particularly the “Tenson du néant”. In order to name the nothing, the disappearance, Roubaud convenes a vast literary memory organized around the principles of the trobar. These are the aporias, the tensions maintained between contradictory poles, explored in each of the chapters that relate the said of mourning to the medieval mezura, struggle of the poets against the “nothingness of love”.

[en] ASPECTS OF MOURNING IN LACAN / [pt] ASPECTOS DO LUTO NO ENSINO DE LACAN

JULIANA DE FARIA CARAMORE 12 April 2004 (has links)
[en] The objective of this dissertation is the study of mourning within Lacan works. With this, it will be developed some aspects of mourning within Lacan teaching. Lacan approaches mourning in the perspective of the act, the inhibited act. Thus, it is possible to take Hamlet as an example, a character that finds himself bound to a tough and problematic connection with his act because of his desire. He fails in fulfilling the mission assigned to him, Hamlet can act only when he lives the mourning and pulls his desire back. The dissertation unfolds from the freudian formulation based on which the loss demands mourning and this mourning can only be lived naturally, with time, without any intervention; this would be the normal mourning. Otherwise, the mourning unleashed can t reach its spontaneous end, and remains blocked. Within this circumstance, mourning will turn into pathological mourning. Lacan demonstrates that the individual in mourning is in a problematic position in relation to the desire of the Other, thus, the difficulty of the mourning is connected to the loss of the possibility of knowing what the object meant to the Other s desire. Lacan believes that what is implied in the mourning is the maintenance of the bonds through where desire is suspended. To reach desire, there is a time of anguish, and said anguish is the anguish of castration. The greater the anguish, the greater is the inhibition, and less mourning. The direction of the psychoanalytical treatment of the individual in mourning would be to transform the pathological mourning into normal mourning, transform inhibition in desire.

Vyrovnávání se s možnými následky spontánního potratu / Coping with impact of miscarriage

Míková, Gabriela January 2019 (has links)
The thesis deals with possible ways of coping with the consequences of miscarriage. The theoretical part first defines the topic of pregnancy from a medical and psychological point of view. It also includes the definition of miscarriage types. Furthermore, an overview of the experience of the child's loss in the early stages of pregnancy is elaborated, impacts on the psyche of the woman and manifestations in her behavior are considered. The process of grieving by individual authors is considered in the context of the early loss of the child. The issue of termination of pregnancy is also seen from the perspective of trauma theory. Possible protective and risk factors accompanying the loss-making process are discussed. Last but not least, the following professional psychological, medical and lay care for a woman after the loss of a child is mentioned. The empirical part of the thesis deals with the affection of the whole phenomenon of child loss during the early stages of pregnancy. Emphasis is placed on the mapping of protective and risk factors with which women had their own experience. The empirical part is based mainly on interviews with women with experience of loss of a child and with professionals who work in this field. Data evaluation was based on grounded theory principles. The Loss-Processing Framework

Childress, Lawrence 01 May 2021 (has links)
The circumstances of responding to loss due to human death are among the most stressful experiences encountered in life. Although grief’s symptoms are typically considered essential to their gradual diminishment, possible negative impacts of complications related to grief are also well known, and have been associated with detriments to mental and physical health. Grief, however, can also generate transformative positive change. Thus, albeit ineludible, responding to loss is not uniformly experienced, expressed, or understood. It is also culturally-shaped, making attempts to define “normal” grief, as well as to label some grief “abnormal”—and to medicalize it—possibly problematic. Bereavement (the situation surrounding a death) and mourning (the publicly expressed response to loss due to death) are changing. Some of these changes (e.g., the increase in hospice care settings prior to deaths, and alterations in the ritual responses following all deaths—irrespective of their context) may have important implications for avoiding grief’s possible complications and for promoting its potential benefits. An improved alignment of grief theory, research, and practice is warranted; but theories of grief are diverse, and historically have not been empirically well-supported. This research articulates a new grief model, the loss-processing framework, featuring three dimensional components (perception, orientation, and direction). As a first step toward validation of the framework, also included is an empirical study examining retrospective descriptive reports of adult loss response relating to the first of these three dimensions (perception). As an interpretive, translational approach to understanding grief, the loss-processing framework may serve to positively impact grieving, health, and life quality.

A Lesson in Mourning: The Evolution of the English Anti-Elegy

Bennett, K. Matthew 01 May 2022 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the evolution of the anti-elegy originating with Thomas Hardy’s elegiac sequence in memory of his wife Emma; Poems of 1912-1913. Using French post-structuralist Georges Bataille’s The Accursed Share as a theoretical lens, Hardy’s anti-elegies are analyzed and rhetorically connected to English war poet Siegfried Sassoon’s anti-elegies. Hardy’s anti-sentimentality, fatalistic outlook on death, and rejection of the Christian afterlife seeps into the language of Sassoon’s war poems which serve as a protest to the dehumanizing effects of late capitalism witnessed during the First World War. Hardy and Sassoon’s anti-elegies, with their hyper-focus on the elegized body, are corrupted by capitalism to diminish the human body into a interchangeable, unhuman cog; fully understood as Bataille’s “thing.” The anti-elegy, distorted by capitalism, creates the possibilities necessary for Randall Jarrell’s “The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner” which protests humanity’s objectification under capitalism while creating the ultimate anti-elegy for the anti-elegy.

Excessive funeral expenditure in the black townships, a pastoral challenge

Moreo, Bishop Stephen Mosimanegape January 2013 (has links)
Funerals are still considered as very important and well attended occasion in the black townships of South Africa. In the recent past, traditional African funerals practices have affected a number of powerful and complex systems that have been interaction in Africa. The three most important being traditional African cultures, modern Western culture and the environment. The study was conducted to establish factors that led to excessive funerals expenditures in some black townships communities of South Africa, in order to create a pastoral response to this phenomenon. The project was done in Ramatlabama village in the North West province and also in Soweto in the province of Gauteng. A qualitative methodological plan was followed allowing exclusive experiences to emerge. Families, adults and young church groups, clergy, Bishop, Social group and a Funeral undertaker , an in-depth qualitative analysis was employed in order to find the real reasons that led to excessive funeral expenditure. The data collected and analyzed revealed that factors such as impressing neighbors, meeting community and family expectation were the reasons for the phenomenon. There were other external factors that contributed indirectly to the practice and such as commercialization and politicization. In order to address this practice that is making the poor more vulnerable, the Shepherding Model of Gerkin’s and Pollard’s Theory of positive deconstruction was explored. It was found that the Clergy needed to be helped to be aware of the fact that excessive funeral expenditure requires a pastoral response with the right attitude and meaningful dialogues with those affected. The pastoral care-giver with adequate knowledge and exposure to life of pastoral care seeker will have a greater advantage to help most if not all families that usually find themselves in this predicament or dilemma. The best way for the church to help the poor families venture into the future, it’s by educating our communities on how not to spend beyond their means. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2013 / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Memory and connection in maternal grief: Harriet Beecher Stowe, Emily Dickinson, and the bereaved mother

Provenzano, Retawnya M. 12 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / This essay explores a broad range of literary works that treat long-term grief as a natural response to the death of a child. Literary examples show gaps in the medical and social sciences’ considerations of grief, since these disciplines judge bereaved mothers’ grief as excessive or label it bereavement disorder. By contrast, authors who employ the ancient storyline of child death illuminate maternal grieving practices, which are commonly marked with a vigilance that expresses itself in wildness. Many of these authors treat grief as a forced pilgrimage, but question the possibility of returning to a previous state of psychological balance. Instead, the mothers in their stories and poems resist external pressure for closure and silence and favor lasting memory. Harriet Beecher Stowe, in Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and Emily Dickinson, in letters to bereaved mother Susan Gilbert Dickinson and in the poetry included in these letters, represent maternal child loss as compelling a movement into a new state and emphasize the lasting pain and disruption of this loss.

Trauern in virtueller Gemeinschaft. Geteiltes Gefühl in Online Gemeinschaften

Döveling, Katrin, Wasgien, Katrin January 2013 (has links)
