Mediální konstrukce biomatek v českých médiích / Media construction of Biomothers in Czech media

Lišková, Iva January 2016 (has links)
This diploma theses deals with the construction of the neoplasm Biomother in the Czech media between 2010-2015. The 'bio' concept, label borrowed from organic agriculture, resonates in public for quite long. The research component of this theses brings an explanation, why the notion of bio was connected with motherhood, and also why media has changed its meaning and brought new defining topics to it. There are 3 main questions to be answered in the theses. How did the picture of Biomothers change between the years 2010-2015? What other characteristics have been included in the topic? What role does media have in this case: Do they serve as a booster of alternative values or, do they tend to promote conservative values? Media portrayal of Biomothers showed considerable dynamism during the examined period and it altered to greater complexity and controversy. Some features, that accompanied the notion biomatka from the start, remained unchanged and are key for its interpretation. This includes the tendency to search and buy organic products, support an all natural lifestyle, and searching for forms of alternative treatments. During the analysed period (2010- 2015) the relatively uncomplicated and positive image of Biomothers, as a worshiper of organic farming, natural lifestyle and organic products,...

Ludwig, Tobias 11 June 2013 (has links)
On three sites the pest-regulating effect of a rape-turnip rape mixed cropping system (ratio 9:1) in comparison to rape in pure stand was assessed. Further, natural and self-produced natural insecticide solutions (§ 6a Plant Protection Act) and a beetle collecting machine to regulate the stem weevils (Ceutorhynchus spp.) and the pollen beetles (Meligethes aeneus F.) were applied in laboratory and field experiments. Compared to the fields in pure stand the mixed crop showed a significantly greater abundance of pests. This resulted in a sometimes significantly greater pest infestation of the rape plants in the mixed crop. Furthermore, the mixed crop often had a significantly lower grain yield. The use of natural pyrethrum and Spinosad resulted in significantly higher mortality rates of the stem weevils in laboratory tests. Under field conditions no effect could be detected. In the regulation of the pollen beetles, Spinosad demonstrated under field and laboratory conditions efficiencies of up to 100 %. Sprayed mineral powder or SiO2 had only a slight effect. For a uniform wetting of the plants with these compounds the formulation of the phytosanitary broth and its repeated application are important factors. From an economic perspective, however, repeated applications are inefficient. For reasons of practicality rock-dusted flour and the beetle-collecting machine are not suitable for pollen beetle regulation. Quassin is just as inappropriate as Azadirachtin, or Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.t.) for the regulation of the pollen beetle. With the exception of one Spinosad application, no protection measure provided an economic surplus. Nitrogen deficiency and weeds seem to more frequently limit grain yield than slight to moderate pest infestation levels. The better the nutrient supply and the lower the weed competition, the more likely by crop protection can be realized an economic surplus. Adequate crop protection strategies, however, have not yet been developed.

Nowak, Benjamin 17 December 2013 (has links)
From the second half of the 20th century, massive application of artificial fertilisersworldwide has contributed to crop yield increases but also to accumulation of nutrients inagricultural systems. Preventing such accumulation is possible through better nutrientrecycling within agrosystems. Organic farming bans artificial fertilisers and may beconsidered as prototype of agriculture that recycles nutrients efficiently. The objective of thisPhD was to identify the strategies of organic farmers to source nutrients. This objective hasbeen broken down into three tasks: (i) identification of the fertilising materials and feedsinputs of organic farms, (ii) identification of the determinants of these inputs and (iii)assessment of their efficiency in recycling nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. This workwas based on interviews with 63 organic farmers about their inputs and outputs (nature andamounts of trade products, type of suppliers and collectors). In order to account for theimportance of the local context, the interviews were conducted in three French agriculturaldistricts defined by their farming specialisation: these districts were specialised either in cropproduction or animal production or were kept mixed. Local nutrient recycling has beenassessed through two indicators: the autonomy was defined as the ratio between the amount ofnutrients coming from exchanges among farms and the sum of inputs to the organic farms ofthe district. The cycling index was defined as the proportion of nutrients flowing at least twicethrough the same farm. The analysis was implemented at two different scales. At farm scale, the analysis focused on the nutrient supply of organic farms. Results showed that arableorganic farms imported large amounts of organic fertilising materials from conventionalfarming. At regional scale, results showed that the proximity between arable and animal farmsfostered exchanges among farms. These exchanges increased local autonomy. However, evenfor the mixed district, the cycling index remained low. Finally, a modelling approachquantified the fraction of phosphorus in organic products that derived from artificialfertilisers. Results showed that more than two-thirds of phosphorus composing these productsderived from artificial fertilisers. These results may help to design farming systems thatenhance nutrient recycling and to discuss the possibility of organic farming development.

In the year of 2005, 53 cowpea genotypes were compared at the Integrated Agroecology Produc tion System ( SIPA Km 47 Agroecologic Farm) relating to qualitative and quantitative agronomic traits. Data were treated by following univariate and multivariate statistical analysis. Significant differences were detected with respect to all the evaluated parameters. Genotypes EES-02, EES-08, EES-26, EES47, Feij?o-Caupi and Feij?o Mau? showed favourable attributes for immature (=green) grain yield. They presented determinate growth habit with moderate branchding and flowering stage up to 45 days after sowing, only differing by pod and grain colors. Univariete analysis demonstrated high variability among cowpea genotypes. However, multivariate analysis was more efficient to joint selected agronomic traits for identification of genotyp ic groups, which can be important in cowpea breeding programs. Cowpea and corn intercrops also submitted to organic cultivation were evaluated by means of two field experiments carried out at SIPA. In Experiment 1, the cowpea cultivars Mau?, BRS Mil?nio and Olho de Peixe were intercropped with corn (cv. AG-1051) to function as green manures. A randomized blocks design was employed in factorial 2x3 scheme (two corn plant spacing x three cowpea cultivars). In Experiment 2, Mau? cowpea and AG-1051 corn were intercropped for harvesting immature (=green) grains and spikes, respectively. Treatments consisted of four time intervals between cowpea and corn sowing. As for Experiment 1, corn planted in double rows favoured cowpea aboveground biomass production, probably due to a greater amount of light admitted into the system. Results from Experiments 2 indicated that intercrop with cowpea did not decrease corn yield which reached averages of 9,5 and 5,9 Mg ha-1 of ears with and without straw, respectively. Regarding cowpea grain yield of Mau? cultivar its single crop was superior to the intercrops exceeding 1400 kg ha-1. Treatment corresponding to 21 days of interval between cowpea and corn sowing differed from the other types of intecrops, with yield attaining 978,75 ka ka-1. It is concluded that the intercropping system can se adopted in the region without risks of lowering corn yield due to competition, being three weeks (21 days) the most adequate time interval between sowing.

Three experiments were conducted in the experimental field of Embrapa Agrobiology in Serop?dica - RJ, between of November 2010 to March 2012. The experimental design was randomized blocks with six treatments and four replications (Experiments 1 and 3) or three replicates (experiment 2). The first experiment took place between November 2010 and March 2011 and had the following treatments: T1 - C. juncea seeded seven days before corn crop and managed at 33 days after emergence (33 DAE), T2 ? C. juncea seeded at the same date of corn sowing (29 DAE), T3 - C. juncea seeded 14 days after corn sown (102 DAE), T4 - C. juncea seeded 28 days after corn sown (88 DAE), T5 and T6 - corn cropping alone. Experiment 2: T1 - C. juncea seeds seven days before the corn (43 DAE), T2 - C. juncea seeded at the same date of corn sowing (37 DAE), T3 - C. juncea seeded seven days after corn sown (74 DAE), T4 - C. juncea seeded 14 days after corn sown (67 DAE), T5 and T6 - corn cropping alone. To first and second experiments, T3, T4 and T6 had been received 70 kg ha-1 of nitrogen by castor bean pie. Treatments of the third experiment consisted: T1 and T2 - C. juncea seeded at the same date of corn sowing (30 DAE) at the single row, T3 and T4 ? corn cropping alone at the single row, T5 and T6 - C. juncea seeded at the same date of corn sowing (30 DAE) at the double rows. For T2 and T6 treatments the green manure was managed and removed from the area, and had been added castor bean pie (70 kg of N ha-1). Also T4 received castor bean pie as a N source for corn. Also in the first experiment, for T1 and T2 trataments proceeded up studies of decomposition and release of nutrients from waste C. juncea by litter bags with 8 intervals collections. For the third test is conducted studies agronomic performance of corn and nitrogen losses through ammonia volatilization to waste C. juncea, castor bean pie and cattle manure through static cameras semi open. When corn sown simultaneously, regardless of the time of sowing, C. juncea did not affect the yield of cereal, promoted the addition of nitrogen to the system able of promoting positive balances for this nutrient. When the green manure was sown 7 days before or 14 days after sowing corn in the summer period, exerted a negative influence on growth and yield of maize. The waste C. juncea showed high rates of decomposition and nutrient release, with half-life for N less than 14 days. Were found discrepant emission rates for ammonia and castor bean pie residue C. juncea, with accumulated losses of about 46 and 14 %, respectively. The arrangement in double rows corn planting did not influence the yield of cereal. The results post the consortium in corn and C. juncea sown simultaneously as a promising culture system, capable of producing corn grain above the average yield of Rio of Janeiro state.

Tankam, Chloé 10 July 2015 (has links)
Over the past two decades the organic agro-food system has been transformed, extending beyond Northern countries and expanding in many so-called developing countries. This dynamic was first a positioning on high added value products’ export markets. Since several years, domestic markets have emerged in a growing number of developing countries, including Kenya. This thesis attempts to shed light on the dynamics explaining these new markets’ emergence and development. The research is based on four questions. The first one concerns the way organic transactions have been organized in Nairobi. Based on neo institutional economics, we explain how, in the absence of credible certification systems, these products are able to be sold with premium. The second question deals with the conditions of producers’ access to these markets. It is common to highlight that organic domestic Kenyan markets are more profitable than conventional ones. However, some producers, who could actually sell in these markets, prefer conventionalones. Thanks to the concept of transaction costs, we show the role of negotiation and monitoring transaction costs. Chapter 3 analyses the effects of selling on organic market on crops’ diversification, as a proxy of economic and environmental sustainability .Based on microeconomics’ contributions our results confirm the positive effect of organic markets. Finally, our fourth and final chapter provides an analysis of the conditions of these markets sustainability. We propose an analysis grid combining economy of information and quality construction approach, based on Hirschman (1970) works. This grid helps us comparing different certification and verification schemes existing in Kenya. Analysis shows that the least effective scheme is the one that is bound to grow, raising the question of the sustainability of Kenyan domestic organic markets.

Modéliser les changements mineurs et majeurs d'individus en interactions : application à la conversion à l'agriculture biologique / Minor and major changes model of interacting individuals : application to the conversion to organic farming

Xu, Qing 26 November 2018 (has links)
(...) / For more than a century, climatic, socio-economic and societal changes are more and more frequent and intense. Adapting to this uncertain context to envisage a sustainable future is a particularly important challenge. Agriculture is at the heart of this challenge and the reflection on the modes of adaptation. Anthropologists have recently identified two types of farmer changes: minor change (consistent with normative behavior), and major change (deep change, challenge the majority norms allowing adoption of innovative behaviors). These two types of change are very close to the incremental adaptation and the transformational adaptation that are defined for individuals as well as for local, national or international institutions. We propose an individual-based model to study farmers’ adaptations that dynamically integrates minor and major changes. We focus on the social-psychological dimension of these changes. Our model is applied to the question of French dairy farmers’ conversions to organic farming. This transition has been characterized as a major change, or a transformational adaptation, and is therefore relevant to test our model.A farmer stays generally in a stable regime doing only minor changes. These changes are carried out by imitating the practices of the most credible farmers. The credibility of one farmer given to another is larger if his (her) produced volume is greater than that of this farmer. These changes are shown by concrete changes of produced volumes, which correspond to more or less intensive choices of practice. In the model, a farmer passes from one stable regime to another through a major change involving a change of his (her) hierarchy of importance over the "productivist" and "environmental" evaluative dimensions. The importance weights his (her) evaluation of the results according to the mode of production (for example: conventional or organic). The computation of the evaluation is based on the theory of reasoned action. This evaluation shows a farmer’s satisfaction that is based on his (her) previous results and his (her) results compared to those of his (her) credible peers, taking into account the importance given to each dimension of evaluation. When a farmer is dissatisfied with his (her) current mode of production, he (she) evaluates his (her) potential satisfaction with another mode of production, and adopts the latter if his (her) satisfaction gain is above a threshold. He (she) then changes the importance hierarchy given to the evaluation dimensions to be in agreement with the adopted mode. For example, an organic farmer will given more importance to the environmental dimension than to the productivist dimension. This change implies a reassessment of both the credibility given to his (her) peers and their practices. (...)

Environmental and social certifications on coffee : A study of consumer perceptions

Sjöberg, Alexander, Wall, Louise January 2009 (has links)
<p>Using coffee as the example, the five certifications; Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, UTZ Certified, EU certification for organic farming and KRAV are explored. A consumer perception survey and a comparative analysis of the certifications true achievements are compared in order to establish how well consumer perceptions reflect certification demands.</p><p>Rainforest Alliance and UTZ Certified largely upholds existing conditions. Fair Trade, KRAV and the EU certification in different ways aims to improve them. KRAV is the most well-known certification, followed by Fair Trade. 85% of the respondents associate KRAV with organic production and 80% of the respondents recognising the Fair Trade logotype associate it with taking strong social responsibility.</p><p>Overall, the results from the consumer survey conform relatively well to the actual standards of the certifications. However some results suggest that Rainforest Alliance holds a higher degree of appreciation than it actually deserves. In a broader perspective this can be associated to the phenomena of Greenwashing; corporative attempts to make a product or service seem more environmentally beneficent than it actually is.
