Mobilis In Mobile : de l'intimité au collectif : les possibilités participatives des technologies de la mobilité / Mobilis In Mobile : from intimacy to collectivity : participative endeavours in mobile technologies

Roussel, Natacha 24 June 2014 (has links)
The permanent and material evidence of technological presence is part of a collective phenomenon that transforms also artistic practices. A new paradigm is established between the individual and the information associated to the person; contextual and hybrid digital works are part of contemporary milieu, they also are actual tools for artistic endeavour. However, these technologies are not neutral and connective capacity makes for the emergence of complex tools. When they are re-appropriated, the very nature of technologies is questioned, artists probe different uses, they argument upon their economies, and even their structure. Moreover, artists use mobile technologies to produce images and sounds as close as our most intimate spaces. As participation is associated to physical exchanges, data generated from movements is associated to the art-work ; networked it reaches each individual participant. Therefore, these works address our relationship to personal and collective spaces both physical and informational. This study also focuses on collective issues raised by many artistic and performative interventions. We will reclaim communication space as a public space, and finally acknowledge that this space is now under construction around our own body, hence, it is essential to negotiate the new terms for this communication. Interact Wearing triggered this research, this system of communicating suits follow the rhythm of its walking users. This performance will guide us in understanding the issues raised by those new artistic relations.

Aldea Infantil SOS - Lima Norte: Comas / SOS Children´s Villages Lima Norte-Comas

Pinto Lynch, Alexandra Camila 27 June 2019 (has links)
An SOS Children's Village is proposed in Lima Norte, district of Comas. This is the 4th district with the largest population of Lima and the second one with around 524 thousand 894 inhabitants according to INEI. This district has a 16% of poverty margin occupying the sixth place in Lima Norte and the third place to have 3.9 green areas per inhabitants. The first one is Santa Rosa with 18,751 inhab.) and the second one is Los Olivos (less poor district of Lima Norte: 9.75%). Today Lima Norte has the characteristics that will facilitate the development of the project itself, since it has large areas of land that can cover the size of the building required and remains a vulnerable sector of Lima in terms of Children who are victims of rejection, violence and abandonment. For this, four evaluation criteria were able to choose the appropriate district of Lima Norte according to SOS Children´s Villages, from which were: Poverty index, population density, number of green areas and the index of complaints about domestic violence and abandonment of home. Finally, it was finished choosing Comas for having the characteristics that are required for the establishment of the village. The construction of SOS Children´s Villages is planned not as traditional shelters, but through grouped homes that seek to assimilate the way of life of a real family. / Tesis

Negotiating memory and nation building in new South African drama

Mekusi, Busuti 19 November 2010 (has links)
ABSTRACT This thesis examines the representation of trauma and memory in six post-Apartheid plays. The topic is explored through a treatment of the tropes of racial segregation, different forms of dispossession as well as violence. The thesis draws its inspiration from the critical and self-reflexive engagements with which South African playwrights depict the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The dramatists are concerned with the contested nature of the TRC as an experiential and historical archive. Others explore the idea of disputed and seemingly elusive notions of truth (from the embodied to the forensic). Through the unpacking of the TRC, as reflected in three of the plays, the thesis argues that apart from the idea of an absolute or forensic truth, the TRC is also characterised by the repression of truth. Furthermore, there is a consideration of debates around amnesty, justice, and reparations. Underpinning the politics and representations of trauma and memory, the thesis also interrogates the concomitant explorations and implications of identity and citizenship in the dramas. In the experience of violence, subjugation and exile, the characters in the dramas wrestle with the physical and psychological implications of their lived experiences. This creates anxieties around notions of self and community whether at home or in exile and such representations foreground the centrality of memory in identity construction. All these complex personal and social challenges are further exacerbated by the presence of endemic violence against women and children as well as that of rampart crime. The thesis, therefore, explores the negotiation of memory and identity in relation to how trauma could be mitigated or healing could be attained. The thesis substantially blurs the orthodox lines of differentiation between race and class, but emphasises the centrality of the individual or self in recent post-Apartheid engagements.

Mäkeläinen, Isabella January 2019 (has links)
There are ideas that cities today compete in a global market in terms of investments, tourism and residents. This competition is based on the notion that cities' opportunity for development is dependent on human capital and financial flows. Which is seen as a limited resource; thus, the competition prevails. Providing well-planned and attractive meeting places in the city's public spaces is not only an important part of the cities' quest for growth but is also important for the social community. The public space acts as a space for individuals and groups where meetings can take place, dialogues can be conducted and ideas can be exchanged. The aim of this study was to investigate how families with children as a community group use and experience Umeå citycenter as a public space, and in what way they think the room could be made more attractive. To fulfil this studies purpose, a literature review has been carried out, in order to create an understanding of the concept of public space, meeting place and accessibility. Then a qualitative interview methodology has been utilized, where 14 families with children have been interviewed. The analysis of the study's theoretical framework and empirical evidence shows that Umeå's citycenter is characterized by a number of qualities. Among many of the families with children interviewed, the supply and resources are the primary cause of visiting the center. While a couple of the interviewed families with children mean that the place and the public environment are the strongest reasons for visiting the center. Based on the respondents' thoughts and opinions about the public space, it appears that accessibility and the range of activities have a huge influence on how the room is used and how the environment is perceived. In summary, the respondents gave a picture of the public space being of great importance for both individuals, different social groups and for the whole of society.

Paisagem urbana: frestas, fricções e descaminhos / -

Silva, Alan Beserra Toledo da 07 November 2018 (has links)
This dissertation reflects on the creation of a set of poetic operations performed in urban space, whose purpose is to problematize the influences that the \"body of the city\" exerts on the bodies of its inhabitants and the subsequent subjectivation processes. It has the cartography as basic investigative procedure, which articulates research in three procedural modes: 1) walking in urban space in an erratic way, with the objective of formulating and absorbing questions that the multiple environments raise; 2) the production of artistic interventions in public spaces, with a aim of questioning local and passers-by, diverting them from the practical-functional routine by opening \"sensitive gaps\" in the daily life of the cities; 3) to produce shifts from public space issues to private spaces, through aesthetic events, that use resources mainly of photography, video and performance, to discuss affective reciprocities between subject and urban landscape.

Artefatos no Jardim da Luz: usos e funções sociais (1870-1930) / Artifacts in Jardim da Luz: usages and social functions (1870-1930)

Minoda, Thais Klarge 22 November 2017 (has links)
This research intends to analyse urban artifacts\' influence on Jardim da Luz\'s sociability from 1870 to 1930. Espaços públicos em João Pessoa (1889-1940): formas, usos e nomes / Public spaces at Joao Pessoa (1889-1940): forms, use and denominations

Almeida, Maria Cecília Fernandes de 08 August 2006 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the transformation of public spaces in João Pessoa city in the period from 1889 to 1940, through the analysis of its forms, use and denominations, modified in the empire period as well as in the republic period. Observing these spaces inside the urban dynamics, the study observes them as urban landscape transforming agents, as well as in the condition of vectors to the growth of the city, enclosing its physical dimension, in the symbolic and representative aspects. For such, the urban raster, the architecture, the aesthetic concepts and the ways of appropriation of these spaces constituted vectors of analysis of these transformations. The approach is made in three periods: the city in XIX century; the public spaces resulting from the alterations of the period known as first cycle of urban reforms (1916-1926), lead mainly by sanitary matters, and the public spaces produced in the 1930 decade, resulting mainly from road concerns and the architecture renewall. Enclosing these three moments, it is studied the case of Parque Solon de Lucena, public space whose trajectory is dealt with in the last chapter.

Ouvir outros espaços: entornos híbridos, interfaces sonoras em espaços públicos / Listen to other spaces: hybrid environments, sound interfaces in public spaces

Roça, Luciana Santos 30 April 2014 (has links)
This research investigates sound and space relationships, discussing concepts referred to the juxtaposition of sonic and physical environments. So, the research approach lies in the discussion of these relationships based on the use of sound interfaces which promote collective listening in public spaces, producing hybrid environments and promoting different apprehensions of space. As it is a multidisciplinary research, the study seeks to approach Architecture, Urbanism and Sound Studies disciplinary fields. Theoretical investigation contextualizes and provides concepts from both disciplinary fields on the role of sound as an element of space. From the developed concepts, readings on sound interventions are made as well as the analysis on the research\'s experiment, which includes the accomplishment of an intervention. The intervention is based on the relocation of a set of trains sounds to a public square, engaging with its context and social and historical dynamics, contributing to the appearance of different interpretation and thinking on the people present. Thus, the importance of the association between practice and theory is reinforced, which is fundamental for researching this subject.

Vila Nova Jaguaré entre favela, comunidade e bairro / Vila Nova Jaguaré between favela, community and neighborhood

Nazareth, Miguel Bustamante Fernandes 11 May 2017 (has links)
This paper presents, specifically, the appropriation of space in Vila Nova Jaguaré and, generally, how slum upgrading processes interfere with the appropriation of space in these settlements. It\'s main objective is to describe the appropriation of space that was verified in this recently upgraded slum, comparing researcher\'s theories with common knowledge that dwellers have about their own site. Therefore, this paper is a scientific approach to an upgraded slum, exploring this new reality based on narratives that explores ameliorations, opportunities, conflicts and activities which are part of everyday life. First, it explores the context of the formation of Jaguaré and the consolidation of Vila Nova Jaguaré, a history marked by different periods in which the relation with the government, dwellers organization and physical appearance of the settlement have changed considerably. Next, this paper presents appropriation of public space in Vila Nova Jaguaré based on field research conducted between 2014 and 2017. Initially, it describes the evident transformations to the researcher\'s eyes, and then it explores dwellers\' point of view about settlement\'s current moment. Finally, comparing dwellers\' individual stances that placed the current moment between advances and impasses, it was observed that the upgraded slum Vila Nova Jaguaré presents three main narratives. In other words, as Vila Nova Jaguaré brings together new conditions of development, formality and institutionally along with its historical traits of precariousness, informality, crime and neighborhood ties, depending on the point of view, it can be considered slum, community or neighborhood. In conclusion, during the consolidation of Vila Nova Jaguaré, the urban improvements and other actions that recognize social rights implemented by the government were not able to guarantee full citizenship. The characteristics that dwellers refers to as slum persist because it is part of their development process, as if slum\'s urbanization occurred simultaneously with the urban\'s precariousness.
