SHAP-Secure Hardware Agent Platform

Zabel, Martin, Preußer, Thomas B., Reichel, Peter, Spallek, Rainer G. 11 June 2007 (has links)
This paper presents a novel implementation of an embedded Java microarchitecture for secure, realtime, and multi-threaded applications. Together with the support of modern features of object-oriented languages, such as exception handling, automatic garbage collection and interface types, a general-purpose platform is established which also fits for the agent concept. Especially, considering real-time issues, new techniques have been implemented in our Java microarchitecture, such as an integrated stack and thread management for fast context switching, concurrent garbage collection for real-time threads and autonomous control flows through preemptive round-robin scheduling.

The interpretation and application of dolus eventualis in South African criminal law

Awa, Linus Tambu 11 1900 (has links)
An accused cannot be held criminally liable by a court until he is considered to be culpable, a process which entails establishing criminal capacity and intention (dolus) or negligence (culpa). Determining a perpetrator’s necessary intent in the form of dolus eventualis has proved to be a predicament in South African jurisprudence. This type of intent occurs when a person does not aim to cause the unlawful act, however, he subjectively foresees the likelihood that in pursuing with his conduct, the unlawful result will possibly happen, and he reconciles himself to this possibility. The problem with this form of intention, especially where the death of another is caused recklessly, is, amongst others, reservations as to whether the perpetrator’s foresight was of a real, reasonable or a remote possibility. This research examines the imperatives and rationale for preceding and current interpretations and applications of dolus eventualis and associate concepts in South African as well as in selected foreign legal frameworks in order to provide a comprehensive perspective on the subject. In this regard, the study challenges conflicting judgments on the application of dolus eventualis in domestic courts, especially as regards homicide- and putative private defence cases, amongst others. It is evidenced that in case law concerning dolus eventualis, legal rules were not properly articulated when determining this type of criminal intent. In this investigation, the legislative framework applicable to dolus eventualis under international law is also critically evaluated with the aim of facilitating the comprehension of this element in South African law. As the concept of dolus eventualis is an indispensable concept in South African criminal law, recommendations are proposed on the application and interpretation of dolus eventualis suitable to the South African landscape, which includes possible law reform. / Criminal and Procedural Law / LL. Alternativní tresty v ČR / Alternative sanctions in the Czech Republic.

Mrajcová, Simona January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with alternative sanctions in the Czech Republic. It primarily focuses on the cooperation between relevant actors during the process of decision-making about the type of sanction, its execution and supervision, and also concentrates on possible changes of its use after the amendment of criminal law in 2010. To give a complex view on given issue, the thesis also shortly focuses on alternatives to sanctions and diversions of criminal proceedings. System of alternative sanctions is framed by criminal policy and criminal law of the Czech Republic and factors that have influence on functioning of the system are determined. Those factors are multinational structures (OSN, EU, Council of Europe), level of registered criminality, forms of criminality and public opinion. Despite the fact, that Czech criminal law contains quite wide enumeration of alternative sanctions, there are still opinions that they are not used enough and that imprisonment is still preferred and it causes overcrowding of prisons and it is burden for state budget. Judges and prosecutors advocate themselves and claim that the problem is not on their side but rather the conditions of alternative sanctions which are poorly regulated and so it discourages from their use. Also the non-conceptual attitude of criminal...

Psychological perspectives on public value creation

Bäro, Anne 23 September 2019 (has links)
This dissertation offers an integrative perspective on the interrelation of individual purpose, public value, and organizations in society. The cumulative dissertation comprises six independently published papers that differ in terms of methodology, research context, objectives, and contribution. The first study is based on the notion that an organization’s value depends on its contributions to the common good, as perceived by the public. The purpose of this study is to provide a corporate reporting approach that incorporates societal perspectives and, thus, advances (non-)financial reporting. The second study takes an explorative approach to investigate the individual-level characteristics of people who participate in the sharing economy as users and as providers. Study 3 examines the role of age as a determinant of individuals’ entrepreneurial behavior. Building on lifespan psychology and institutional theory, it argues for a U-shaped relationship between entrepreneurs’ age and their choice to create social value for their communities and societies. Study 4 enlarges the debate on the multifaceted consequences of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by discussing the relationship between organizational CSR engagement and employee work addiction, shedding light on the potential risks associated with CSR. Study 5 is a case study and deals with the German family-equity company Haniel and depicts the process of implementing a Corporate Responsibility strategy throughout a holding company and its divisions. Study 6 provides an overview of public value research conducted by Moore, Bozeman, and Meynhardt and shows how public managers can make use of two management tools, the Public Value Scorecard and the Public Value Atlas. This dissertation contributes to a deeper understanding of the drivers and outcomes of public value perceptions and helps to close some knowledge gaps while stimulating further thought and action pertaining to the multiple aspects of public value.:CHAPTER 1: FRAMEWORK PAPER CHAPTER 2: PUBLIC VALUE REPORTING: ADDING VALUE TO (NON-) FINANCIAL REPORTING CHAPTER 3: DRIVERS OF SHARING ECONOMY SUPPLY AND DEMAND: THE ROLE OF INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERISTICS CHAPTER 4: ENTREPRENEURS’ AGE, INSTITUTIONS, AND SOCIAL VALUE CREATION: A MULTI-COUNTRY STUDY CHAPTER 5: TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING? ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CSR AND EMPLOYEE WORK ADDICTION CHAPTER 6: HANIEL: IMPLEMENTING THE CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY STRATEGY CHAPTER 7: PUBLIC VALUE PERFORMANCE: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO CREATE VALUE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR?

Leaders’ Perception of the Connection between Sustainability and Employee Engagement

Terkowski, Ann-Christin, van de Loo, Justus, Pelikan, Pascal January 2019 (has links)
Todays’ organizations are facing low levels of employee engagement, with a tendency to decrease evenfurther. Sustainability has been found to positively affect employee engagement as it providesemployees with a higher purpose in their work. Therefore, this research study reveals leaders’perception on the contribution of sustainability towards employee engagement, with a focus onmultinational organizations in the Öresund region. This qualitative study combines Herzberg´s “Two-Factor Theory” and transformational leadership to analyze the research findings with a theoreticalframework. The results display that sustainability has a significant influence on the level of employeeengagement and various activities of organizations and leaders contribute towards this. The researchalso underlines that there is a potential for organizations to implement further strategies in this regardand thereby not only strengthen the satisfaction and loyalty of their current workforce, but also gain acompetitive advantage in the future for attracting new talents.

Reliable General Purpose Sentiment Analysis of the Public Twitter Stream

Haldenwang, Nils 27 September 2017 (has links)
General purpose Twitter sentiment analysis is a novel field that is closely related to traditional Twitter sentiment analysis but slightly differs in some key aspects. The main difference lies in the fact that the novel approach considers the unfiltered public Twitter stream while most of the previous approaches often applied various filtering steps which are not feasible for many applications. Another goal is to yield more reliable results by only classifying a tweet as positive or negative if it distinctly consists of the respective sentiment and mark the remaining messages as uncertain. Traditional approaches are often not that strict. Within the course of this thesis it could be verified that the novel approach differs significantly from the traditional approach. Moreover, the experimental results indicated that the archetypical approaches could be transferred to the new domain but the related domain data is consistently sub par when compared to high quality in-domain data. Finally, the viability of the best classification algorithm could be qualitatively verified in a real-world setting that was also developed within the course of this thesis.

Vers une stratégie de gestion participative multi-usages de la ressource en eau dans le delta du fleuve Sénégal : processus de décision et outils de régulation autour du lac de Guiers / Towards a multi-use participatory management strategy for water resources in the Senegal River Delta : decision-making process and regulation tools around Lake Guiers.

Diop, Penda 06 October 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the relevance of the participatory approach as a leverage tool to achieve a better shared and sustainable local management of water resources around lake Guiers in Senegal. It is the only freshwater lake of importance in the country. Located in a semi-desert zone of the Sahelian ecological region, lake Guiers is coveted by several types of uses. It is considered both nationally and locally as a vital resource for drinking water supply in nearby regions and large cities as a strategic resource for maintaining food self-sufficiency, as well as being a vector of economic development of the agro-pastoral village communities. The methodological approach adopted is the "bottom-up" approach, starting from field diagnosis of the case of lake Guiers. It is based on interviews and questionnaire surveys with managers and users of the lake’s water, an analysis of the sets of actors in an evolving institutional framework and the analysis of the spatial dynamics of distribution of the uses of the lake’s water. This diagnosis demonstrates the extent to which the participatory approach advocated in the water management strategies and plans of lake Guiers is effectively implemented and strengthens the participation of water resource users in order to achieve a better shared and sustainable management of this water resource. The participatory approach is functional only if the management framework is part of a comprehensive, collaborative and integrated management approach in which all users and managers are involved in the decision-making process (co-management). Furthermore, the participatory approach is often difficult to organize. This difficulty increases when the geographical scope is large and the aim is to involve all the users and managers concerned at all levels with sometimes contradictory interests. Moreover, the thesis reveals that the increase in the implantation of economic activities that are supposed to benefit the region leads to perverse effects that run counter to the objectives of the management plans: a drop in water quality and of the available quantities (pollution caused by discharges from agro-industries and increased collection volumes). All the series of actions (services) involved imply expenditures for the management actors (maintenance of infrastructures, control of sampling, pollution control etc.). In this area, the thesis recommends that the management of water resources in the lake should take into account this decisive dimension, by developing new management tools corresponding to the economic valuation of water and by creating an observatory, an integrating tool of its sustainable future. This is a sine qua non condition for improving the living conditions of local residents. The thesis confirms, through the case of Lake Guiers, the relevance of the theories of the participatory approach to accompany and help its management actors in their apprehension and organization of the management system.

The search for equality in Stockholm’s primary schools : A qualitative study of physical education teachers' experiences of goals, applications and influencing factors.

Leek, Kevin, Kalliokoski, Kirsti January 2022 (has links)
Aim:The aim of this study is to investigate how physical education teachers in the Stockholm area interpret objectives in the subject of sports and health based on the governing documents, and how these are applied in teaching in relation to influencing factors in order to strive for an equivalent teaching. The questions are: (1) What are the goals of teachers in the subject? (2) How do teachers work to meet these goals and strive for equal teaching? (3) What factors influence teachers' goals in teaching? Method:Since the study aims to examine teachers' interpretations and experiences, a qualitative method was chosen. The data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with six sports teachers in the Stockholm area. The data collection was analyzed using a deductive content analysis based on two theoretical basis. These two theoretical basis were framework factor theory and curriculum theory. Results:The results show that the physical education teachers had common goals with the subject sports and health. These goals were: joy of movement, interest in future physical activity, knowledge of health and ethical perspective. The results showed that two sports teachers had additional individual goals. To apply these goals in the teaching, they used variety of different activities as well as different pedagogical approaches such as adaptation, repetition and progression. The internal and external factors that influenced the teachers were primarily experience, sports background, location, time and student base. Conclusion:Based on the results of the study, we were able to conclude that the teachers' interpretation of the subject's objectives was based on the formulated objectives in the curriculum. This indicates how the different guidelines in the formulation arena contribute to a more equal interpretation. However, the objectives were applied in different ways depending on the external and internal factors. Based on this observation, it can be concluded that equivalent teaching requires the teacher to make adjustments based on the conditions in their specific context.

Parenteau, Nicolas 11 1900 (has links)
Background: Car usage reduction has previously been pointed out to be a population-based intervention promoting physical activity. Previous literature on the car usage-physical activity relation typically uses categorical variables for transport modes, rarely accounts for trip purpose and does not explore the influence of home location on this association. This study uses both self-reported and objectively measured physical activity to test the association between car usage and total daily physical activity, while accounting for previous limitations. Methods: INTERACT data collected in 2018-2019 among 780 participants from the Montreal metropolitan area site were analysed. Linear regression models of self-reported (log-transformed) and objectively measured total moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) were built separately, as a function of car usage. Trip purpose was then included in these models. Finally, a geographically weighted regression (GWR) model was built to explore the spatial variation of the car usage-MVPA association. Results: The proportion of trips made by car showed a negative association with both self-reported (coefficient: -0.009, 95% CI [-0.012, -0.006]) and objectively measured (coefficient: -0.29 minutes per day, 95% CI [-0.55, -0.03]) total MVPA. GWR showed little spatial variation in the car usage-total self-reported MVPA. The number of trips toward certain purposes (e.g. “shops and services”) is associated with total MVPA. Conclusion: This cross-sectional study showed a negative association between car usage and total MVPA in the Montreal metropolitan area. Some trip purpose is associated with total physical activity.
