[en] EVENT WORD AND LIBERATION PRAXIS: KARL BARTH’S ECCLESIOLOGY AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO LATIN-AMERICAN THEOLOGY / [pt] PALAVRA EVENTO E PRÁXIS LIBERTADORA: A ECLESIOLOGIA DE KARL BARTH E SUA CONTRIBUIÇÃO PARA A TEOLOGIA LATINO-AMERICANA

MANOEL BERNARDINO DE SANTANA FILHO 19 June 2012 (has links)
[en] Karl Barth’s theology is characterized by the affirmation of the phenomenal character of the manifestation of God in history. It is only truly the Word of God when it touches the human being existentially. It’s the word that happens at each moment taking the individual to a crisis and, consequently, to take a position. It happens fully in Jesus Christ, the One who provides the meeting of the eternal and the temporal. In this work the author will try to show the influence of this theology in the Latin-American theologians, especially in those belonging to the Theology of Liberation. The barthian concept of the word as an event finds its equivalent in the historical praxis that gives privilege to the action over the theory. Barth works with method practice more theory more practice, starting from the experience and making theology a second moment in ecclesial practice, returning to practice from this point. This method is present in Latin America’s theological methodology.

This status assumption in favor of the poor became known as “preferential option for the poor” and not only asigns the latin-american theology , but also identifies the Third World Church in a focus and place change, from which makes significant the systematization and the analytic understanding of its history. It will be given emphasis to the reflection concerning to the “power” category, in order to analyse the environment where occurs the shock among the social actors arround the interests in the relationships of the social field. The retaliations imposed to the Theology of Liberation and the political and economic changes, occurred in the last quart of the last century, cause paradigms crisis, not only in the political sphere but also in the theologic one. But the considerations concerning to the Archdiocese of Curitiba privilege the reflections about the questions of the national conjuncture and of the crisis in the institutional relationships that envolved historically the State and The Brazilian Church, relating them, at a local level, in the constitution of the diocese rule. The relationships of ecclesiastic power are analysed through the actions of the bishops, envolving local tensions as the formation of the cleric and the representation of the episcopal authority. The pastoral organization of the Archdiocese of Curitiba in the years 80’ and the beginning of the 1990 decade reflects the ecclesiastic power conjuncture concerning to the types, focus and the dynamics of the pastorals of the archdiocese, particularly the CEB’s and their relationships with the Theology of Liberation. It is necessary to look for decline reasons of the Theology of Liberation influence in the pastoral orientations of the Archdiocese of Curitiba, through quantitative research technics in the study of São Pedro Apóstolo (Saint Peter Apostle) Parish case in Curitiba, in order to analyse the complex relationships of power in the rupture of the speech unit and of the social representations.

Adriana Gastellú Camp 16 January 2015 (has links)
The Lutheran churches in Latin America and the Caribbean have been participating since 2007 of the Sustainability Program. This Program was a result of the initiative of the Department of Mission and Development of the Lutheran World Federation with the main goal at together reflecting about their own sustainability. This paper proposes to use hermeneutical keys based on Feminist Liberation Theology to reflect about new ecclesiastical models and new models of leadership. The main argument is that using Feminist Liberation Theology as the lenses for the analysis of the leadership of those churches allows envisioning new ways of interpreting ecclesiastical structures that are more participatory and inclusive. Feminist Theology of Liberation proposes the hermeneutical spiral as method for analysis and challenges to look at the ecclesiastical models in dialog with the daily experiences of women and other excluded groups. It calls to understand the church as a relational structure, as a concentric spiral, always open, interconnected with all things.

On the Concept of Sin in the Theology of Liberation and Josiah Royce's The Problem of Christianity: Towards a Theo-Philosophical Ethics

Pratt, Aaron, Pratt, Aaron January 2012 (has links)
This essay proposes that theology and philosophy are not mutually exclusive or at odds with one another methodologically, but in fact that religious categories are useful in philosophical analyses, and particularly when it comes to ethics. In this essay, I examine the theological concept of sin as it is expressed in Latin American Liberation Theology (over and against the more traditional understanding of sin in Western Christianity) as the domination of the Other and the oppression of the poor through geo-political systems of power. I explore the responses to this notion from the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as my own critiques in terms of theoretical integrity with particular regard to claims of universalism. The essay then proceeds into a synthesis of these criticisms through the work of Josiah Royce on Community and Loyalty in

A VERDADE É A CONVERSA: Aproximações inesperadas entre o neo-pragmatismo de Richard Rorty e a Teologia da Libertação em Juan Luis Segundo / The truth si the conversation: Unexpected approaches between the neo-pragmatism of Richard Rorty and Liberation Theology in Juan Luis Segundo

It´s developed here an approach of staring to the truth and the revelation, conceived as pedagogical methods. The truth, not as a religious concept, of what is searched to give sense to the world, human life, and revelation, as an experience emphasized by the language and religious expectations existential meaning are similar experiences and constitute not only as a result of a learning process, but as a process in itself, open and in constant renewal. The truth would not be where someone gets, but the roads by which someone takes. Finding the contact points and the possible mutual contributions of the philosopher Richard Rorty´s thought, and his edifying philosophy, and the philosopher Juan Luis Segundo, and his idea of revelation as a pedagogical process, will be my effort of approach between his propositions and the construction of a proposal which does not get rid of the human language and condition. The human being, who was marked by freedom, has in the contingency of his constructions a limit to his achievements and a space for his liberation of any dehumanizing process.

Preferential Options and Palimpsests: Transferring the Founders’ Catholic Charism from Vowed Religious Educators to Lay Educators

Lynch, Patrick Paschal 01 July 2011 (has links)
A decline in the number of vowed religious who teach and administer in Catholic high schools has placed the responsibility for transferring the founders’ Charism, the traditional mission and identity of the schools, in the hands of lay educators. This study examined how one Catholic independent single-sex high school established programs and methods to transfer the founders’ Charism to its lay educators and students in the areas of social justice, diversity, and social and political awareness. The researcher collected data about Charism transference by interviewing five adults selected as a purposive sample and conducting focus groups with 15 students selected on a nominative basis. Additional research included prolonged researcher emic observation and an analysis of school documents and archives; the data were codified and an emergent analysis of the data was performed. The analysis focused on social justice, diversity, and social and political awareness at the school. Informing the analysis were the theories of Catholic Social Teaching, critical pedagogy, and liberation theology. The emergent analysis identified that the school institutionalized the founders’ Charism, established an atmosphere of care for others in the areas of social justice and diversity, and promoted awareness of feminine identity and a sense of students as leaders, as well as an understanding of social justice and diversity issues. However, factors including social reproduction, social capital, cultural capital, and class complicated the transformational praxis of action in the areas of social justice and political and social awareness.
