Attityden till arbete - ungas akilleshäl på arbetsmarknaden : En kvalitativ studie utifrån arbetsförmedlarnas perspektiv / Attitude towards work - the Achilles heel for young people in the labormarket : A qualitative study from the perspective of employment recruiters

Johansson, Li, Karlsson, Vilma January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to study employment recruiter’s image of young people’s attitudes towards working. The main focus is what attitudes are considered to benefit young people according to employment recruiters. Furthermore, it is also researched what it is that shapes these attitudes amongst young people according to the employment recruiters. Attitude is an expression that consists of multiple dimensions and theories. In this study, the point of departure will be within the sociopsychological theory about attitudes. Additionally, four established depictions about attitudes towards work will be used. In order to explain how attitudes are shaped and transferred to young people, the theory about socialization is used from multiple aspects. The research is based on qualitative interviews with five employment recruiters who describe their experiences and viewpoints regarding the attitude that young people have towards work. The result of this study shows that the employment recruiter’s experience is that young people predominantly have a positive attitude towards work and that it is characterized by determination and commitment. Nevertheless, according to the employment recruiters, there are groups of young people that have a negative attitude towards working. This attitude consists of reluctance towards searching for an employment and in addition to that, unwillingness to perform in a labor situation. These two contradictory attitudes that adolescents have towards work, is one of the many components to whether young people will succeed in their employment search or not. In order to concretize, the positive attitude will generate work and the negative attitude will hinder young people from finding an employment. Factors that frame different attitudes amongst young people are family, friends, society and in particular, school.

Nutritional capabilities of young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) in Langa, Western Cape, South Africa

Rasmeni ,Akhona January 2021 (has links)
Magister Artium (Development Studies) - MA(DVS) / The opportunities and challenges faced by young people who are not in any kind of employment, education or training (NEETs) are under-reported by scholars in the field of development. In this regard, what NEETs in South Africa know about nutrition and how they pursue nourishment are neglected areas of research. Yet they are important considerations for policymakers. The majority of young people in the age group 18–24 are, strictly speaking, no longer their parents’ responsibility, with the child support grant that their caregiver may have received having terminated when they turned 18. However, many young people have not found jobs and are therefore not financially independent. As a result, they are constrained in being able to access food (or at least the food that they particularly enjoy). This study aimed to investigate the lived experiences of young adult NEETs in terms of food and nutrition, what they do to ensure that they are nourished, and the kinds of nutritional achievements that they have to choose from.

Co-living, Jordbro

Udeji, Promise Mmesoma January 2022 (has links)
Thesis Question: Housing, a human right according to FN is getting more expensive and not necessarily more affordable. Young people and new families have a hard time getting a place to call home. What if through co-living geared specifically towards this group we could drastically increase the amount of high quality but low-cost housing available to this group? So in this project I am going to try and design a co-living building with focus on social space versus private space in a shared  living situation for young people. The chosen site is Jordbro in Haninge municipality with 11000 residents. The resulting building design proposes a somewhat more generous coliving solution where everyone’s private space is designed to allow for extra privacy while at the same time giving residents the option to interact more with others throught the diverse shared spaces that at times break floor boundaries (Double height room and atriums). The site choice also offers residents access to nature and the program on the entry floor intends to give back to the surrounding residential buildings in terms of rentable space for parties on weekends and live music during the week days or weekends when it isn’t booked for parties, workshops etc.

Vem har Makten? : En Studie om Makt och Inflytande bland Ungdomar i Malung-Sälen / Who has the Power? : A Study about Power and Influence amongst Youth in Malung Sälen

Ligata, Amer January 2023 (has links)
Nyckelord: Inflytande, delaktighet, makt, ungdomar, ungdomsråd / The purpose of this study is to investigate how much power and influence the members have in Malung-Sälen's youth council. National and international research claims that young people's opportunities for influence and participation are limited due to structures in society. The study was operationalized through qualitative semi-structured interviews with six young people aged 15–18 from the municipality of Malung-Sälen. Steven Luke's theory of power has been selected to analyse the aspects of power in the youth council, which in turn has answered the study's question. The selected theory highlights three dimensions of power. Luke's second dimension of power has been prioritized a little more than the other two, because this perspective draws attention to what Luke calls "agenda power" or "power over the agenda". The aim of the study has been achieved and the question has been answered, by examining how much agenda power the young people have in the youth council. The study shows that young people today can influence through, for example, youth councils. The young people themselves choose what is put on the agenda, which means that agenda power is high. No other actor influences what the youth council chooses to discuss at its meetings. In addition, the young people are assigned different roles within the youth council and get the chance to influence and have their say. When the young people decide on a proposal for change, it is sent to the politicians who then make the decisive decision. This means that it is the politicians' views that win when divided opinions prevail.  Keywords: Influence, participation, power, young people, youth council

The illegal drug trade on social media : Does social media increase the use of drugs among young people?

Hylén, Isabella January 2023 (has links)
Background: Young people is associated with a significant increase in risky health behaviors, such as substance use and behavioral addictions. Previous research suggests that social media is increasingly being used for illegal drug trade. Objectives: To investigate how social media platforms are used for the illegal drug trade, and whether there is evidence that social media have increased drug use among young people. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted including literature from 2010 and onwards. Results: Findings show that public platforms such as Facebook and Instagram are used for advertising illegal drugs, whilst private platforms such as Wickr and Snapchat are used for arranging transactions. There is no evidence that social media causes increased use of drugs among young people. Instead, the findings were highlighting factors that are associated with an increased risk of usage. Conclusions: Public platforms are used for advertising and private platforms are used for arranging transactions. There are indications, but no direct evidence, that social media increases the use of drugs among young people.

Mobility as a Service: Exploring Young People’s Mobility Demands and Travel Behavior / Mobilitet som tjänst: Ett utforskande av unga människors resvanor och beteende

Johansson, Mårten January 2017 (has links)
Increasing vehicular travel and environmental issues are trends increasing the pressure on urban transport systems. The new concept Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is one approach to tackle these challenges. The aim of MaaS is to reduce the need of the private car and increase the use of shared resources by providing one single application that integrates all transport modes, payment, and services. Several ongoing societal trends such as urbanization, technologic development, and sharing economy are examples of reasons for the emergence of MaaS. Young people are often leading the development and are early adopters of new technologies. The mobility demands of young people today and in the future will therefore play an important role in the implementations of MaaS. This qualitative study uses focus groups to explore mobility demands today and in the envisioned future of young people (aged 15-23) living in Stockholm. Our understanding of travel behaviour and mobility demands among young people is limited, and this study also aims to get deeper understanding of the underlying values and attitudes towards mobility that influence those demands and behaviours. This study aims to answer how young people’s mobility demands look like and if they correspond to the visions of MaaS as stated by developers and experts of the concept. Findings indicate that mobility demands and behaviour are strongly influenced by parents, and underlying values such as ‘Freedom’ and ‘Comfortable life’ affect mobility more than factors such as availability and travel time. There is little need for increased accessibility to transport today and in the envisioned future. Findings also indicate a relatively widespread environmental awareness, but an unwillingness to convert awareness to change of behaviour. The demands of young people correspond to some extent with the visions of MaaS, and the probability of young people to adopt MaaS and to choose environmentally friendly journey is high if demands for convenience and comfort are fulfilled.

Breaking Tradition: Reaching For The Avant-garde In Theatre For Young Audiences

Hoppe, Meredith 01 January 2009 (has links)
This thesis seeks to unearth the concept of breaking tradition in the field of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) in the United States by applying the avant-garde theory of Arnold Aronson as a lens through which to investigate the current development of US TYA. After formulating an approach in which to negotiate the concept of the avant-garde, I draft five tenets that currently define tradition in the field of US TYA. Situating these five tenets against Aronson's theoretical framework, I examine three contemporary US TYA plays from the past two centuries: Black Butterfly, Hush: An Interview with America, and Atypical Boy. Within these scripts, I probe for moments where these five tenets break to manifest possible tendencies toward the avant-garde. I then conclusively reflect and problematize these findings in order to raise questions about each script's relationship to the avant-garde and significance to the development of the field, ultimately provoking further discourse surrounding the role of avant-garde methodology within US TYA's current position and state of progression.

Literatura en las Coordenadas del Cambio: Premio Casa de las Americas Literatura para Niños y Jovenes (1975-2012)

Cuesta-Gonzalez, Gloria-Maria 18 November 2014 (has links) (PDF)
The cultural dimension of the Cuban Revolution (1959) has an unquestionable reference: Casa de las Américas, international symbol of Cuba in the field of the arts. Of its multiple artistic expression, we have put our focus in the literary prizes with which this institution recognizes children’s literary creation, and our working hypothesis is that Casa de las Américas has played an essential role in the development and consolidation, in the Latin American context, of a genre that even today in day is considered minor. The goal of our study is therefore to investigate and analyze the reasons offered for that hypothesis, proving its veracity. Because of the link between the entity and the Cuban revolution, the first chapter is dedicated to deepen the knowledge of the political context in which emerges Casa de las Americas, while in the second one we rescue the literary precedents from an essential figure, José Martí, to the direct antecedent of the award, the first Forum of Literature for Children and Young People (1972). The third and final chapter is devoted entirely to the award, establishing and analyzing the works that compose the corpus.

The importance of understanding weight stigma - A sociological study of weight stigma in home and consumer classes based on teachers' perception and knowledge

Malm Bogg, Carolina January 2023 (has links)
The study is about how home and consumer teachers perceive weight stigmatization among students in lower secondary education when the physical development is ongoing and the students are affected by, among other things, each other, and ideals. In Sweden, the ideal of thinness is the norm. Previous research shows that weight stigma occurs in most settings. One of the most common stereotypical prejudices is that overweight individuals eat a lot. Therefore, a survey was conducted on whether the teachers perceived that student carried out weight stigmatization in connection with a topic that deals with cooking. This was done by conducting five semi-structural in-depth interviews with teachers who were working with home- and consumer studies at a lower secondary school in Sweden at the time of the interviews. A thematic analysis was made of the interview material, which was analyzed using the stigma theory. The respondents perceived that there is less weight stigma than expected given the previous research. According to the respondents, the education of teachers was perceived to be deficient in the subject of weight stigmatization. Lack of education about the subject affects knowledge about it and in turn the weight stigma becomes unclear.

Johansson, Marie, Lejergård, Elin January 2023 (has links)
The main purpose of this study was to describe and analyze how influencers and young people express themselves about anxiety on TikTok. To answer the purpose of the study a document study was conducted, where videos and comment fields were studied, the result was analyzed with a social constructionist perspective. The results showed that on TikTok influencers share videos with content related to symptoms of anxiety. Influencers and young people share their own experiences of anxiety or give tips on how to deal with anxiety. In social work, it is important to be where young people are, as today’s young people grow up partly in an online world. And therefore, it is of great importance that professionals working with children and young people are also on social media, as they can reach out to young people in a different way than they can do in real life.
