[en] POPULAR FAMILY AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN RIO DE JANEIRO: THE MEDIATION OF ON EDUCATIONAL PROCESS IN CONSTRUCTION / [pt] FAMÍLIA POPULAR E ESCOLAS PÚBLICAS NO RIO DE JANEIRO: AS MEDIAÇÕES DE UM PROCESSO EDUCATIVO EM CONSTRUÇÃO

ERICA DE BARROS PEREIRA 27 August 2012 (has links)
[en] This work addresses the issue of public education in Brazil after his process of massification. Assuming that public schools are producing urban segregation, ours aims are: to reflect on the place the institution occupies in the school project of life of families living in slums and popular neighborhoods; and, investigate what degree of participation of practitioners in the process of schooling of their children. For this, it was used a few data from the survey conducted in 2010 with parents and responsible for public school students residing in slums of the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Our findings indicate that the school is an important part in the ordinary life of families who value popular school knowledge and show great interest in participating in school activities. Its importance is noted by parents and responsible not only on the issue of social mobility but also in their size socializing in the formation of citizens so having access to cultural diversity in this city. These findings lead us to reflect on the different aspects that concern the relationship between school and family, and how they have contributed to weaken the institutional role of the school.

GISELE CARDOSO DE ALMEIDA MACHADO 08 January 2013 (has links)
[en] The urban area of Rio de Janeiro serves as an ideological and political tool manipulated by hegemonic facts holding the capital. The intentional use of space creates an inequity basic delivery services , as well as the negative effects of urban growth in the outlying areas and expose in low-income conditions that directly affect their lives. The goal of this dissertation is to check the environmental matters, social and economic impact s of the trash territories creation in neighborhoods of low-income population, demonstrating the economic interests eventually imposed by the negative side of urban growth exteriorizations to the poorest side of the population in an injustice social dynamic that began in the last nineteenth century and it gets worse and worse nowadays. We analyze the process of creating four major areas of the city garbage in Rio de Janeiro, with the highlight the Metropolitan Landfill of Jardim Gramacho. In analyzing the socioeconomic conditions of recyclable material collectors, we follow the discussions about its closure and the construction of a new territory of garbage. You can understand through our analysis that even with environmental issues gaining prominence in the national and international setting to bring the garbage dumps of deprived areas remains the same.

[en] MUSIC: SUBALTERNITY AND RESISTANCES / [pt] MÚSICA: SUBALTERNIDADE E RESISTÊNCIAS

WALACE RODRIGUES DA SILVA 09 May 2017 (has links)
[en] In the current text I look to demonstrate how music, through its subversive character, can represent the insertion of subaltern individuals and cultures both into public space and popular imagery. Based on readings of theorists on culture, subalternity and music, I suggest a reflexion on the cultural hierarchy in certain territories and narratives. Political interventions that generated social exclusion and criminalization of artists and certain subalternized bodies are also observed. I bring up the discussion about the influence of economic power in the legitimization of certain excluding policies and how, through music, a cultural mediation may be established in a cosmopolitan and multicultural city. The subalterns dispute for space, the city s cartography and the capacity of representation of the subjects by songs guide the current dissertation.

[en] THE VIOLENT PRODUCTION OF CARIOCA URBAN SPACE: THE FAVELAS AS A MANIFESTATION OF THE SOCIO-SPATIAL SEGREGATION PROCESS AND THE CHALLENGES OF AN EDUCATION BEYOND CAPITAL / [pt] A VIOLENTA PRODUÇÃO DO ESPAÇO URBANO CARIOCA: AS FAVELAS COMO MANIFESTAÇÃO DO PROCESSO DE SEGREGAÇÃO SOCIOESPACIAL E OS DESAFIOS DE UMA EDUCAÇÃO PARA ALÉM DO CAPITAL

ALAN SILVEIRA 18 September 2018 (has links)
[en] When we analyze the daily life of the favelas, we realize that besides the exclusion of plots of the population there is their legitimacy to occupy a space considered anomalous to the city, which leads us to interpret them as a manifestation of the socio-spatial segregation process. In this dissertation we assume that segregation is the foundation and condition of violent capitalist urbanization. The favela association with images of danger, crime and uncontrolled, perpetuates to the present day, creating stereotypes that in the case of the capital city of Rio de Janeiro comprises approximately a quarter of the population. Another relevant issue is that most favelas dwellers introject these representations of their living space, suffering symbolic violence by not feeling belonging to the city, most often reinforced by the school as well as by the school geography when it approaches the favela as a urban problem. Prejudice is a category of everyday thinking and behavior that is objectified in spatial practices, leading those who are the target of these biased practices to coexist with symbolic and even physical violence. We believe that teaching, and in a more specific way the teaching of Geography, can be fundamental mediation to establish the logic of the popular classes from spatial forms of resistance, such as the favelas, giving visibility to these subjects, playing a counterinternalization role of social hierarchy to which they are submitted in the course of their life trajectories, that is, from an education project beyond capital.

[en] STUDIES ON THE DYNAMICS OF DENSE GRANULAR SYSTEMS / [pt] ESTUDOS DA DINÂMICA DE MATERIAIS GRANULARES DENSOS

LUCAS MAURICIO SIGAUD 10 February 2010 (has links)
[en] Granular materials, due to their huge amount of industrial applications (from food industry to astrophysics), have been the object of an increasing number of studies throughout the last couple of decades. Much of the physical description concerning the behaviour of this kind of material, however, still eludes scientists, turning this field of research into a particularly rich one. Among the unsolved questions in this area there are some of growing interest, such as the mechanisms of grains transport and flux, which describe phenomena like correlated diffusion and the formation of shear bands, for example. By means of phenomenological and mathematical models, this work tries to improve the understanding of these phenomena and the mechanisms behind them, particularly the fundamental role of arches of forces created by the grains. Using a relatively simple phenomenological model and computer simulations, the role of arches becomes evident when it is observed, in the simulations, the characteristic behaviour of shear bands formation, reproducing experimental results and the predictions of theoretical models found in the literature. Simultaneously, a theoretical mathematical model was developed to describe granular correlated diffusion, a phenomenon we believe is based on the same principle of transportation by means of arches, reproducing the qualitative behaviour of computer simulations.

[en] URBAN FRONTEIRS: INTERPRETATIONS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CRUZADA SÃO SEBASTIÃO AND LEBLON / [pt] FRONTEIRAS URBANAS: INTERPRETAÇÕES SOBRE A RELAÇÃO ENTRE CRUZADA SÃO SEBASTIÃO E LEBLON

ANA CAROLINA CANEGAL DE ALMEIDA 03 January 2011 (has links)
[en] This work approaches the urban segregation theme through the study of the relationship between Cruzada São Sebastião, a housing project built over 50 years in order to shelter families which had lived in favelas, and Leblon, the neighborhood in which it takes place, mostly occupied by medium and higher classes’ groups. The research had focused on the analyses of five interpreters, which have their own specific perspectives, from inside and outside the housing project, trying to comprehend their particular ways of reading the relationship between those spaces in question. The hypothesis was that there are tensions originated from a constant reanimated and revived urban frontier established between Cruzada São Sebastião and Leblon, through the strength of stereotypes and territorial stigma relegated to Cruzada. Our intention, therefore, was to contribute for the urban segregation processes debate.

CLOVIS NASCIMENTO JUNIOR 30 November 2023 (has links)
[en] This research project investigates how the black population living in the municipality of São Paulo, SP, mobilized around the so-called Bailes Blacks. Especially in its periphery-center relationship, this social conjuncture produced strategies for survival in a territory demarcated by attempts at erasure, racial segregation and displacement within this urban fabric. These movements — from regions located on the edges of the city to strategic meeting points in the central region — are recognized as generating territorialities in transformation, constituting a field of constant socio-economic, symbolic and, especially, political disputes. Against the backdrop of a dynamic of meeting and socializing of peers, this type of appropriation in the city of São Paulo — especially through dance and music — has allowed for the formation of what is characterized in the work as a type of festive knowledge. The research was conducted using a methodology that analyzed the history of the black population s relationship with dances in Brazil: from the post-abolition period, with clubs; through associations, such as the Black Press and the Brazilian Black Front; and culminating with the Black Dances, which are highlighted in a time frame that began in the late 1950s until the mid-1980s. As research techniques for this dissertation, a literature review was carried out - which considered the in-depth study of articles on the subject.

[es] FIGURAS DE LA INVASIÓN: REFLEXIONES SOBRE EL MALESTAR CLASISTA EN LA CIUDAD / [pt] FIGURAS DA INVASÃO: REFLEXÕES SOBRE O INCÔMODO CLASSISTA NA CIDADE

TOMAS DUQUE ESTRADA ROSATI 16 October 2013 (has links)

[en] MOBILITY IN THE CITY OF RIO DE JANEIRO: A SURVEY TO IDENTIFY REASONS TO EITHER USE OR NOT THE BUS SYSTEM, WITH EMPHASIS ON BRT / [pt] MOBILIDADE NA CIDADE DO RIO DE JANEIRO: UMA PESQUISA PARA IDENTIFICAR OS MOTIVOS PARA USAR OU NÃO O SISTEMA DE ÔNIBUS, COM ÊNFASE NO BRT

MIGUEL DE FREITAS CHRISTINO 06 February 2018 (has links)
[en] The population of rural areas is retracting, making urban population continually grow. Taking advantage of the increased demand, speculators seek to maximize gains increasing the rent value of the property. The most widespread pursuit for attractive rents creates geographic differences in proportion to the intensity of investments, often ensuring that regions with an abundance of capital become richer while the poor become relatively poorer (Harvey, 2004). Especially in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where the economic and financial area is concentrated, this unfortunate population that increasingly is being removed from the center and the South Zone, is subject to long commutes to work. Combined with the problem of increasing distances, the public transit is inadequate, stingy and without quality, both in terms of comfort, and in relation to security, exposing its users extremely long terms, exhausting and dangerous journeys. Given these conditions, the least unfortunate opt for private transport, increasing traffic, reducing the average speed, while reducing the rationale and the financial viability of the public transit system - and thus also potentially reducing the mobility of those who depend this system (Massey, 1991). In other words, the time-space expansion pushes the neediest population away from opportunities, from the possibility of studying, and ultimately restricts social mobility. The public transit is the most rational and efficient way to move people from long and medium distances in medium and large urban centers. Even if the public transportation by bus (SPPO in Portuguese) is fed at the ends by other modals, whether they are not motorized or automobiles, it should be fast, reliable, safe, inexpensive and minimally comfortable, and these characteristics should be intensified the greater is the volume of use. Public transport suffers from acute and chronic shortages in Brazilian cities in general. The inefficiency of bus services and the inadequacy of rail transport have a severe impact on the so-called Brazilian Cost.

[pt] A POLÍTICA DE SEGREGAÇÃO PÚBLICA: ENTRE MUROS SOCIAIS E MARGINAIS / [en] THE PUBLIC SEGREGATION POLICY: BETWEEN SOCIAL AND MARGINAL WALLS

THABATA SOUTO CASTANHO DE CARVALHO 11 July 2022 (has links)
[en] This dissertation has as its theme the spatiality of the city as a public segregation policy that engenders public security policy. Therefore, we intend to understan how the production of social space and the city is closely related to the economic model adopted and how the tensions between ethnographically diferente social groups are reproduced in the geographical space and in the city. Thus, this dissertation is subdivides into: (a) understanding of the city as a space of dispute; (b) understanding of the city as a reproduction of global capitalismo; (c) urban (re)planning policies, targeting the world city Market, which culminates i the reproduction of segregations based on class and race; (d) the analysis of Rio de Janeiro as a global city and the urban (re)planning that took place in view of the megaeven, together with the segregation of Rio de Janeiro; (e) the analysis of necrospace that culminates in the necropolitics of Public Security.
