O texto contempla discussões sobre a prática da leitura dos estudantes da Rede, problematizada na questão: o que tem provocado o baixo desempenho em leitura dos estudantes no ciclo complementar da alfabetização? Assim, para a realização da pesquisa que norteou o projeto de intervenção, adotou-se como objetivo geral: analisar o nível de competência leitora dos alunos do 5º ano do Ensino Fundamental da Rede Municipal de ensino de Lapão e, como objetivo do projeto de intervenção: instituir uma política de formação de leitores, especialmente para os profissionais que atendem as turmas do 4º e 5º ano, nas escolas municipais. O processo de investigação iniciou-se pela trajetória da pesquisadora como professora da rede no percurso formativo do mestrado profissional de fevereiro de 2015 a fevereiro de 2018, especialmente nas escolas Antônio Matos Filho e Vital da Silva Dourado, localizadas no distrito de Aguada Nova, município de Lapão/Bahia. Fizeram parte desse processo de investigação 14 professores graduados em pedagogia da rede de ensino que se dispuseram a participar de forma ativa e colaborativa como sujeitos da pesquisa. A metodologia está referendada na fenomenologia-hermenêutica e a partir dela, elegeu-se a pesquisa qualitativa descritiva. Com inspiração no grupo focal como método da abordagem qualitativa, foi definido que os dados da pesquisa seriam obtidos por meio de “grupos de diálogos” que representaram uma potente ferramenta para obtenção de dados. Aplicou-se esse dispositivo uma vez que as informações foram trazidas por meio de interações entre os participantes. Para provocar reflexões sobre as práticas de leitura e dialogar com os professores, quatro proposições nortearam os diálogos. Para além dos grupos de diálogos, foram realizadas observações sistemáticas envolvendo visitas no lócus da pesquisa a partir das quais foi possível identificar e analisar alguns fatores decisivos sobre como a leitura vem sendo trabalhada nas escolas pesquisadas. Identificou-se então que a diferença entre os níveis de competência leitora nas duas escolas pesquisadas pode estar associada a fatores como a falta de monitoramento dos resultados de leitura, tempo pedagógico fragmentado, acervo literário restrito, falta de espaço específico para atividades de leitura, participação restrito da família, processo de ensino e aprendizagem delimitado em torno do Programa Nacional de Alfabetização na Idade Certa - PNAIC, além de ausência de estudos específicas para os professores formadores de leitores. Desta maneira, ao final do estudo apresenta-se uma proposta de intervenção, com algumas orientações implicadas que podem contribuir de forma positiva para o desenvolvimento da competência leitora na Rede de Ensino do Município de Lapão. / ABSTRACT This paper presents as a title, Reading in the 5th year of Elementary School: a contribution to the development of reading competence in the Lapão / Bahia Municipal Teaching Network. The text contemplates discussions about the reading practice of the students of the Network, problematized in the question: what has caused the low reading performance of students in the complementary cycle of literacy? In order to carry out the research that guided the intervention project, it was adopted as a general objective: to analyze the level of reading competence of the fifth year students of the Primary School of the Lapão Municipal Teaching Network and, as an objective of the intervention project: institute a policy of training of readers, especially for the professionals who attend the classes of the 4th and 5th year, in municipal schools. The research process began with the trajectory of the researcher as a teacher of the network in the training course of the professional master's degree from February 2015 to February 2018, especially in the schools Antonio Matos Filho and Vital da Silva Dourado, located in the district of Aguada Nova, municipality of Lapão / Bahia. This research process was carried out by 14 teachers graduated in pedagogy of the educational network who were willing to participate in an active and collaborative way as research subjects. The methodology is based on phenomenology-hermeneutics and from it, the descriptive qualitative research was chosen. With inspiration in the focus group as a method of qualitative approach, it was defined that the research data would be obtained through "dialog groups" that represented a powerful tool for obtaining data. This device was applied since the information was brought through interactions between the participants. To provoke reflections on reading practices and dialogue with teachers, four propositions guided the dialogues. In addition to the dialog groups, systematic observations were made involving visits at the locus of the research, from which it was possible to identify and analyze some decisive factors on how the reading has been worked in the schools studied. It was then identified that the difference between levels of reading competence in the two schools surveyed may be associated with factors such as lack of monitoring of reading results, fragmented pedagogical time, restricted literary content, lack of specific space for reading activities, participation restricted family, teaching and learning process delimited around the National Literacy Program in the Right Age - PNAIC, in addition to the absence of specific studies for teacher-training readers. Thus, at the end of the study we present a proposal for intervention, with some guidelines that can contribute positively to the development of reading competence in the Teaching Network of the City of Lapão.

The protected hypothesis is the that the activities proposed in text books of Portuguese language of the Fundamental Teaching they don't take the student to notice the different functions and the sense effects that those structures produce in the text. To prove it, they are taken as objects of analysis three selected goods of the text books of Portuguese language: a debate; an interview and a report. The proposed reflection, seeking it a change in the work with the Portuguese language is based in the conception language bakhtiniana, which postulates that the true substance of the language is constituted by the social phenomenon of the interaction. In that sense, it can be thought about a study of the language guided in another direction, in that it is not privileged the identification and the classification of the linguistic categories in sentences descontextualizadas, but the observation of the use of those categories in the texts. For so much, it comes a study of the adjectival structures, observing your operation and the sense effects produced by those structures in the texts, in way to enlarge the student's discursive competence, turning him proficient in the use of the oral language and writing. / O presente trabalho insere-se na teoria sóciointeracionista e tem por objetivo analisar, numa perspectiva textual-discursiva, as estruturas adjetivas em diferentes gêneros textuais. A hipótese defendida é a de que as atividades propostas em livros didáticos de Língua Portuguesa do Ensino Fundamental não levam o aluno a perceber as diferentes funções e os efeitos de sentido que essas estruturas produzem no texto. Para comprová-la, tomam-se como objetos de análise três gêneros selecionados dos livros didáticos de língua portuguesa: um debate; uma entrevista e uma reportagem. A reflexão proposta, visando a uma mudança no trabalho com a língua portuguesa fundamenta-se na concepção bakhtiniana de linguagem, que postula que a verdadeira substância da língua é constituída pelo fenômeno social da interação. Nesse sentido, pode-se pensar num estudo da língua orientado numa outra direção, em que se privilegie não a identificação e a classificação das categorias linguísticas em frases descontextualizadas, mas a observação do uso dessas categorias nos textos. Para tanto, apresenta-se um estudo das estruturas adjetivas, observando o seu funcionamento e os efeitos de sentido produzidos por essas estruturas nos textos, de maneira a ampliar a competência discursiva do aluno, tornando-o proficiente no uso da língua oral e escrita.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e TecnolÃgico / Considerando o recente panorama de pesquisas que refletem a relaÃÃo e o compromisso da LinguÃstica Aplicada (LA) com os fenÃmenos que envolvem o uso das relativamente novas Tecnologias de InformaÃÃo e ComunicaÃÃo (TIC), esta tese desenvolve um estudo das propostas de atividades online para a oferta de ensino da compreensÃo e produÃÃo oral em lÃngua inglesa como lÃngua estrangeira mediado por computador/web. A execuÃÃo desta proposta baseou-se nas reflexÃes acerca das propostas de atividades (SALMON, 2002; CHAPELLE, 2003; LEFFA, 2008; CERQUEIRA, 2010), relacionando-as aos princÃpios de ensino da compreensÃo e produÃÃo oral em lÃngua inglesa (HARMER, 1998; 2001; BROWN, 2000a; 2000b), bem como Ãs possibilidades desse ensino ser realizado atravÃs do uso de tecnologias (PAIVA, no prelo; 2010). Situada no paradigma das pesquisas qualitativas, de cunho predominantemente descritivo e exploratÃrio (RAUPP; BEUREN, 2004; CELANI, 2005; LEFFA, 2006), nossa anÃlise resultou: 1) na categorizaÃÃo das propostas de atividades online para o ensino da compreensÃo e produÃÃo oral no curso semipresencial Letras/InglÃs da Universidade Federal do CearÃ; 2) na descriÃÃo dos usos dos recursos digitais que constituem a oferta desse ensino a distÃncia; 3) na elucidaÃÃo do modelo de oferta de propostas de atividades online para o ensino da compreensÃo e produÃÃo oral em lÃngua inglesa como lÃngua estrangeira por computador/web. O tratamento dos dados, primeiramente, suscitou a formaÃÃo de uma tipologia das propostas de atividades online, a saber: proposta de atividade online do tipo exercÃcio para a promoÃÃo da interaÃÃo aluno/computador; proposta de atividade online do tipo comunicativo para a promoÃÃo da CMC; proposta de atividade online do tipo hÃbrido; proposta de atividade online do tipo independente do AVA. Em seguida, foi elaborado o catÃlogo de uso e frequÃncia das tecnologias em que os exemplares das propostas de atividades online se encontravam ancorados, o que expressa a forma como os educadores integram os recursos digitais em suas prÃticas pedagÃgicas. Distintas pelos traÃos constitutivos de suas configuraÃÃes, as propostas de atividades online refletem as escolhas realizadas pelos seus proponentes durante o planejamento do curso em EaD, comprometido com a promoÃÃo das interaÃÃes e o uso das tecnologias digitais que as medeiam. Resultante dessa elaboraÃÃo, o modelo da oferta de propostas de atividades online para o ensino da compreensÃo e produÃÃo oral em lÃngua inglesa por computador ganha contornos visuais devido à recorrÃncia de algumas tomadas de decisÃes em funÃÃo da realizaÃÃo do ensino a distÃncia. Esse modelo: 1) nÃo tem cunho prescritivo, sendo resultante da investigaÃÃo de cunho descritivo e exploratÃrio; 2) nÃo reflete todas as formas possÃveis de elaboraÃÃo e oferta de propostas de atividades online para o ensino da compreensÃo e produÃÃo oral em lÃngua estrangeira atravÃs de tecnologias digitais; 3) oferece elementos para reflexÃo sobre a forma que essa prÃtica/oferta de ensino a distÃncia està sendo realizada; 4) constitui-se e apresenta possÃveis caminhos para a realizaÃÃo do ensino da compreensÃo e produÃÃo oral em lÃngua estrangeira a distÃncia; 5) possui carÃter abstrato, que torna possÃvel que sua manipulaÃÃo seja feita com fins didÃticos e que sua concretizaÃÃo se torne visÃvel/clara. / Considering the recent landscape of researches that reflect Applied Linguistics (AL) relation and commitment to phenomena that involve the use of relatively new Information and Communication Technology (ICT), this PhD thesis develops a study of online proposed activities to the offer of teaching oral comprehension and production in English as a foreign language mediated by the computer/web. The implementation of this proposal was based on the reflections on proposed activities (SALMON, 2002; CHAPELLE, 2003; LEFFA, 2008; CERQUEIRA, 2010), relating them to the principles of teaching oral comprehension and production in English (HARMER, 1998; 2001; BROWN, 2000a; 2000b), as well as to the possibilities of making this teaching be accomplished through the use of technologies (PAIVA, in press; 2010). Situated in the qualitative research paradigm, with predominantly descriptive and exploratory nature (RAUPP; BEUREN, 2004; CELANI, 2005; LEFFA, 2006), our analysis resulted in: 1) categorizing the online proposed activities for teaching oral comprehension and production in blended course Letters/English at Federal University of CearÃ; 2) describing the uses of digital resources that constitute the provision of distance teaching; 3) elucidating the model for offering online proposed activities to teach oral comprehension and production in English as a foreign language by the computer/web. Data analysis, at first, raised the formation of online proposed activities typology, namely: online proposed activity exercise type for the promotion of student/computer interaction; online proposed activity communicative type for the promotion of CMC; online proposed activity hybrid type; online proposed activity VLE independent type. Then, the catalog of technology use and frequency was elaborated, in which the online proposed activity exemplars were anchored, and which expresses how educators integrate digital resources into their teaching practices. Distinguished by the constitutive traits of its configurations, the online proposed activities reflect the choices made by its proponents when planning the course for distance education, committed to the promotion of interactions and the use of mediating digital technology. Resulting form this formulation, the model for offering online proposed activities to teach oral comprehension and production in English by the computer/web is made visual due to the some decision-making recurrence based on the realization of distance education. This model: 1) does not have a prescriptive nature, being the result of descriptive and exploratory investigation; 2) does not reflect all possible ways of developing and offering online proposed activities to teach oral comprehension and production of a foreign language through digital technologies; 3) offers food for thought on how this practice/offer of distance education is being performed; 4) is made and presents possible ways to carry out the distance education of oral comprehensive and production in a foreign language; 5) has abstractness, which makes its manipulation possible for didactic purposes and which makes its implementation become visible/clear.

A proposed model for measurement of capital generation by small business as a contribution to economic development

Economic development is a relatively new field of economics that started only thirty years ago. Many of the measurements applied in measuring the effectiveness of small businesses in South Africa are based on measuring growth, which is not always related to development. Using capital generation as one of the measurable parameters in economic development, a model was designed to measure the contribution of small business towards capital generation and, subsequently, development. The model considered the contribution of small businesses towards capital generation by measuring growth in assets, owners. incomes, employees. incomes and taxes paid. For these parameters to contribute to growth, additional capital needs to be generated by businesses. Job creation was also measured as an important parameter used to calculate employees. and owners. incomes. The model was tested with actual data gathered through personal interviews with businesses and analyses of the financial information of the businesses. The data were collected to cover a five-year operational period. The model contributed to an understanding of the ability of small businesses to support development in South Africa. The model was used to test the capital contributions of businesses of different age groups and sizes as well as within different manufacturing environments and locations in Gauteng and North West. Reducing the high failure rate of small businesses will play an important role in any future developmental interventions to increase the contributions of these small businesses. If the high failure rate is ignored and if only successful businesses are considered, it is seen that small businesses contribute to job creation. Small businesses, in general, increased employment below the total employment growth rate for the areas of the study, although the businesses which employed fewer than ten people outperformed the industry average. The data suggest that small businesses generally do contribute to capital generation. Small businesses, which employed fewer than 20 people, contributed positively to all aspects of capital contribution, compared to businesses which employed more than 20 people. These businesses performed positively only in tax contribution. It is positive that small businesses invest in, and increase, assets, but it is concerning that tax contribution growth outperforms all other capital generation parameters. Employees. incomes, and especially owners. incomes, showed a negative growth contribution to capital generation. There were definite trends in the data that businesses which employ the most assets, with large salary bills, large owners. payments and large tax contributions showed slower growth than did businesses employing smaller total capital contributions in these parameters. The motor industry, which showed phenomenal growth over the past few years, did not manage to increase the capital it used taking into account the effect of the consumer price index, excluding interest rates on mortgage bonds. This was also clear in the different regions which support the industry. The industry data can be used to study the different industries in more detail. Although more businesses contributed to growth in the four parameters, the net contributions in certain instances, or parameters, were negative. The results show that small business contributes both to economic development and to growth. It is also clear that the model can be used to analyse business contributions to development. It is unclear whether small business is the best way of stimulating development based on growth in capital contributions. In South Africa, a representative anthropometric study of South African women has never been undertaken, as such little is known about the body shapes of South African women. Nevertheless, research on the body shapes of South African women is ongoing (Makhanya, 2012). According to the preliminary findings of Makhanya’s (2012) research, 59.26% of South African female students of African descent have a triangular body shape. The triangular body shape differs from the ideal body shape that ready-to-wear apparel sizing is presently based on, and is a contributing factor to the problems experienced with the quality of fit of ready-to-wear apparel by South African women of African descent. Therefore, the aim of this exploratory study was to develop experimental size specifications for the body measurements required for a basic sheath dress for South African female students of African descent with a triangular body shape. The students were of medium height, aged between 18 and 25 years, in the size 6/30 to size 14/38 size range, and enrolled at the University of Pretoria. The experimental size specifications were developed by statistically analysing an anthropometric database of female students of the University of Pretoria using regression analysis. Thereafter, the quality of fit attained from the experimental size specifications and the traditional (i.e. current) size specifications was evaluated to determine whether the experimental size specifications offer the unit of analysis with improved overall quality of fit. A panel of professionals with experience in apparel fit evaluation evaluated the quality of fit of the test garments. The test garments developed from the experimental size specifications were considered by the panel of professionals to offer the unit of analysis with improved overall quality of fit. Optimering av produktionsflöden för ett byggnadsprojekt / Optimization of production flows for a construction project

I produktionen för ett byggnadsprojekt krävs ett optimalt produktionsflöde för att uppnå bästa ekonomiska och kvalitetsmässiga resultat. Dock uppstår problem i produktionen som leder till ett försämrat produktionsflöde som resulterar i kostnadsökningar och en förlängd byggtid. Målet med detta arbete var att identifiera de problem som uppstår i produktionen för att sedan utvärdera och analysera möjliga åtgärdsförslag på dessa problem. Arbetet har genomförts på uppdrag av företaget X där undersökningar har utförts vid deras projekt Y, som också ligger till grund för resultatet.  Genom insamlad information från intervjuer, litteraturstudier och en enkätundersökning har problem och möjliga åtgärder identifierats. Det har arbetats fram åtta åtgärdsförslag som har analyserats och utvärderats med hänsyn till den insamlade informationen. Fyra av åtgärdsförslagen har ytterligare analyserats och utvärderats på ett djupgående sätt genom kostnadsberäkningar, för att utvärdera den ekonomiska lönsamheten för dessa.   Resultatet av examensarbetet visar att flera av de åtgärdsförslag som utvärderats medför ett positivt resultat, där arbeten utanför ordinarie arbetstid medför den största kostnadsbesparingen. Det framgår även att uppförande av extra antal bygghissar inte medför ett lönsamt resultat. Slutsatsen av arbetet är att de bäst lämpade åtgärdsförslagen bör vara införande av överlappstider vid raster, för att undvika väntetider på bygghissar och inbärning av material utanför ordinarie arbetstid, för att reducera spilltiden under den ordinarie arbetstiden.  Dessa förslag går att införa med små åtgärder till skillnad från införande av arbete utanför ordinarie arbetstid som kräver en större åtgärd. En rekommendation till företaget är att vidare analysera de åtgärdsförslag som det inte genomförts kostnadsberäkningar för. Utifrån en analys av dessa åtgärdsförslag bör det kunna konstateras att fler detaljerade arbetsberedningar, en ökad mängd erfarenhetsåterföringar och deltagande av underentreprenörer och lagbasar vid ett tidigare skede i projektet kan bidra till ytterligare förbättringar av produktionsflödet. / In the production of a construction project an optimal production flow is required in order to achieve the best economic and quality results. However, problems arise in the production which leads to a decreased production flow that causes increased costs and an extended construction period. The purpose of this work was to identify the problems that occur in the production to then evaluate and analyze possible proposals to solve these issues. The work was commissioned by company X where investigations have been carried out at their project Y, which also forms the basis of the results. Through information gathered from interviews, literature studies and a survey have problems and possible measures been identified. It has been developed eight proposals for action which have been analyzed and evaluated with regard to the gathered information. Four of the proposed measures have been further analyzed and evaluated in a profound way by cost estimates, to evaluate the economic profit of these proposals. The results of the thesis show that several of the proposed measures that have been evaluated results in a positive outcome, where work outside normal working hours provided the greatest cost savings. It is also clear that insertion of additional number of building elevators do not entail a profitable result. The conclusion drawn is that the best suited proposals for action should be the introduction of overlapping times during breaks, to avoid waiting times for the building elevators and transportation of materials outside normal working hours, in order to minimize interruption times during regular working hours. These proposals can be introduced with small resources in contrast to the introduction of work outside normal working hours that demands a greater measure. A recommendation for the company is to further analyze the proposed measures that have not been calculated with regards to cost estimates. Based on an analysis of these proposals it should be concluded that more detailed work preparations, an increased amount of experience reversals and participation of the subcontractors and foremen at an earlier stage in the project can contribute to further improvements in production flows.

The Effects of Land Use and Contaminant Transport at a Proposed Reservoir Site in Smith County, Mississippi

This study investigates nutrient and contaminant transport within the Oakohay Creek watershed in order to (1) demonstrate the effects of land use on water quality, (2) model and predict the trophic state of the proposed reservoir given current nutrient loads, and (3) understand potential groundwater flow paths within the reservoir footprint. This study demonstrates that the current, large-scale poultry industry, though not statistically significant with a confidence of 95%, does have a negative impact on the surface water quality. The study also shows evidence for a eutrophic reservoir (TSI-P of 59.4 area-weighted mean) with an increased potential for nuisance algal growth in the northeast segment (TSI-P of 66.0). Dye tracing studies suggest the potential for groundwater flow out of the reservoir as a result of potential paleo-channels within the Glendon Limestone. This study concludes that the location on the Oakohay Creek is not suitable for the construction of a reservoir.
