Sociogenèse d’une invention institutionnelle : le centre universitaire expérimental de Vincennes / Sociogenesis of an institutional innovation : the experimental university of Vincennes

Dormoy-Rajramanan, Christelle 04 December 2014 (has links)
Building on social history renewed interest for the “long 1968” period, this work seeks to understand both the conditions of possibility of an institution such as the “Experimental University of Vincennes” (Centre universitaire expérimental de Vincennes) and the way it was initially shaped by the practical concerns and projections of its planners, creators and first actors. Between a sociology of education policies and a social history of intellectual fields, the history of this university experiment adds to our knowledge of the symbolic crisis of May 1968, and paves the way for a history of ideas which simultaneously takes into account the mobilized and mobilizable actors that are students and professors, and their negotiation with the political power. On a macrosociological scale, this research aims to shed light on the logics that led to the morphological and symbolic development of the University since the 1950s and adds to our knowledge of the functionning of the state and policial power in a context of crisis. On a microsociological scale, it focuses on the logics of action of social actors and seeks to understand how and why, according to which representations, dispositions and interests, actors (both individual and collective) assume their roles and “professions” (of high-civil servants, political leaders, “intellectuals”, professors, students), without underestimating the constraints that are imposed on them. This work is based on complementary materials (archives, interviews, biographies, and statistics) which put in perspective “quantitative data” and “qualitative data”, combining two scales of analysis.

From inner self to cinematic double : gaze and voice of French cineastes in their self-expression films (Jean Cocteau, François Truffaut and Romain Goupil)

Yeo, Keum-Mee 22 June 2009 (has links)
In which way does a cineaste transforme his or her reel self into works? How can we recognize this self-image in the films? This study concerns the autobiographical expression in the films of sevral french cineastes, such as Jean Cocteau, François Truffaut, and Romain Goupil, those who intended constantly to create their own cinematic double all over their works. We will see the distinctive character of self-expression films through the various aspects of cineastes’ introspective gaze : those toward his « another self », toward his own death, etc. These gazes might be also examined in relations with the various ways that we can hear the polyphonic voices of cineastes.

Blocking vs. Non-blocking Communication under MPI on a Master-Worker Problem

Andr&eacute, Fachat, Hoffmann, Karl Heinz 30 October 1998 (has links)
In this report we describe the conversion of a simple Master-Worker parallel program from global blocking communications to non-blocking communications. The program is MPI-based and has been run on different computer architectures. By moving the communication to the background the processors can use the former waiting time for computation. However we find that the computing time increases by the time the communication time decreases in the used MPICH implementation on a cluster of workstations. Also using non-global communication instead of the global communication slows the algorithm down on computers with optimized global communication routines like the Cray T3D.

Speech Disorders. The Speaking Subject and Language in Neronian Court Literature

Rudoni, Elia January 2020 (has links)
By combining literary criticism, philology, and contemporary psychoanalysis, this dissertation offers an innovative interpretation of Neronian court literature (Seneca, Lucan, and Petronius). I argue that the works of these three authors thematize and embody a problematic relation between the human subject and language. Language is not conceived or represented as an inert tool that can be easily appropriated by the speaking subject, but rather as a powerful entity that may, and often does, take control of the human subject, directing it from without. Besides analyzing how Seneca, Lucan, and Petronius portray the relation between the human subject and language in the internal plots and characters of their works, I also explore the relation between these three authors themselves and language. My conclusion is that this relation is defined by unresolved ambiguities and neurotic tensions, and I suggest that this might be a consequence of the traumatizing circumstances that the three examined authors endured at Nero’s court.

Det felaktiga folket : Svenska kyrkans roll i försvenskningen av kvänerna 1840–1950 / The Faulty People : The Role of the Church of Sweden during the Assimilation Policy against the Kvens 1840–1950

Fjällborg, Anna January 2024 (has links)
This thesis is about the Assimilation Policy against the minority Kvens in the years 1840-1950. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate which role the Church of Sweden played in the assimililation and what made bishops and priests to take this role. The base is the theoretical concepts of nation and nationalism, identity and etnicity, minority and majority and authority. This study is mainly a collocation of previous research. In november 2023, the Swedish state finished a commissionwork about the Assimilation Policy against the Kvens and gave an account for the discrimination, excesses and assimilation from the state and the Church of Sweden against the Kvens. (SOU 2023:68) That work is the main source in this thesis. During the investigated period, the church was intertvined with the state which made it a part of the nationalistic endeavor to make every person in Sweden a good citizen and a good Evangelic-Lutheran Christian. The church contributed in coercive methods such as language compulsion to teach every person Swedish, Racial biology and Eugenics and to make the Kvens change place for worship. The only approved language in both the state and the church was Swedish and this enforced the Kvens to learn a new language and stop using their own minority language Meänkieli. It started with the children, but with time every Kven was affected by the Assimilation Policy. The Religious Revivial movement the Laestadianism became a safe haven for the Kvens because during their services Meänkieli was allowed. Thanks to the Laestadianism the Kvens could continue to meet Kvens in Finland and Norway in a transnational community. Both the Swedish state and the Church of Sweden felt treatened by this transnational community which they feared was a threat to the nation and the homogenization. The church became a part of the nationalistic struggle to make Sweden strong and independent. Both the state and the church believed in "one nation–one language–one church". A strong nation was homogenous with all citizens sharing in traditions, history, religion and language of the majority. The Kvens were faulty people according to race, language and worship.  The period with Assimilation Policy is a dark chapter in the history of both the Kvens and the Church of Sweden.
