De la parodie dans l'art des années 1960 à nos jours / Parody in art from the sixties to our times

Si la parodie est loin d'être une pratique nouvelle, la première occurrence connue du terme remontant à l'Antiquité, elle a été jusqu'alors principalement envisagée comme un genre ou comme une figure littéraires. Et pourtant ses formes, ses connotations et ses procédés sont exploités par de nombreux artistes plasticiens. Dans les années 1960, l'avènement de la société de consommation et ses effets sur la reproductibilité de l'œuvre d'art donnent à la parodie un essor nouveau. Transformant l'histoire de l'art en un répertoire accessible dans lequel puiser à loisir pour créer à partir de, la reproductibilité offre des conditions idéales au jeu parodique. Comprendre comment et pourquoi des artistes d'horizons fort divers, des années 1960 à nos jours, se saisissent de la parodie, à des fins aussi bien personnelles que contextuelles, est l'objet de cette étude. État des lieux de la notion, la première partie s'attache à définir le terme et se penche sur les parodies réalisées depuis le milieu du XIXe siècle, des Salons caricaturaux au postmodernisme en passant par les avant-gardes historiques. La deuxième partie se construit autour du ludique, du comique et du satirique, compris comme autant de couleurs et de régimes. Enfin, la troisième partie est consacrée à la part réflexive de la parodie. Art sur l'art, cette dernière participe à une mise en cause institutionnelle et aspire à la dénudation du faire artistique lui-même. Tout au long de cette étude, la parodie apparaît comme une pratique essentiellement ambivalente, entre mauvais genre et pratique cultivée, gaminerie et jeu élitiste, dégénérescence de l'art et sursaut de créativité, destitution et aveu d'admiration, outrage et hommage. / The word parody has been coined during classical antiquity and has since been considered mostly as a literary genre or figure. Nevertheless, numerous plastic artists are making use of its forms, processes and connotations. During the 1960s decade, the advent of consumerism and its effects on the work of art duplicability gave a new rise to parody. Reproducibility allowed the transformation of history of arts into a vast repertoire in which one may draw to create from and thus, offered a fertile ground for parodic creation. This study focuses on understanding why and how such a wide range of artists are taking advantage of parody for personal or contextual ends from the 1960s to nowadays. The first part of this study is articulated around the precise definition of the term and a chronological view of the parodic art since the middle of the 19th century, from the Salons caricaturaux to postmodernism including historical avant- gardes. The notions of playfulness, comic and satiric will be discussed in the second part, in order to grasp the multiple shades of parody. The third and last part is devoted to the specular aspect of parody that leads to a questioning of the artistic institutions and aims to unveil the artistic practices themselves. Across these pages, parody appears as an ambivalent process, oscillating between mauvais genre and sophistication, childishness and elitism, barrenness and creative rebirth, destitution and admiration, outrage and tribute.

Le sujet abordé dans cette thèse est la famille Marca, dynastie piémontaise originaire de la Valsesia spécialisée dans le travail du stuc. Au début du XVIIIe siècle, certains membres de cette famille migrèrent vers la Franche-Comté en quête de travail tandis que les autres restèrent dans le Piémont. Les Marca installés en France accueillirent ensuite les autres artistes de la famille qui ainsi purent travailler dans la même région voire dans des zones limitrophes. Leurs ouvrages sont présents dans des lieux de culte et des demeures privées italiens, franc-comtois et bourguignons. Ces œuvres (retables, chaires à prêcher, statues et bas-reliefs en stuc) ont été réalisées entre la fin du XVIIe siècle et le début du XIXe siècle. Ce sujet est entièrement nouveau dans la mesure où les informations concernant cette famille sont rares et dispersées et qu’aujourd’hui aucune recherche n’a été entreprise sur eux, ni en France ni en Italie. Ce travail consiste donc en une étude de cette famille italienne et de son activité. La thèse établit une biographie précise de chacun des membres, définit l’organisation, les méthodes et les techniques de travail de ces stucateurs, dresse l’inventaire de leurs œuvres et les situe dans le contexte artistique et religieux de leur temps. Les archives de Bourgogne, du Doubs, du Jura, de la Haute-Saône et des régions de Biella et de Vercelli ont été exploitées. La visite d’un grand nombre d’édifices italiens et français possédant du mobilier de la main des Marca ou d’un style proche du leur fût également nécessaire afin de mener à bien ce travail. L’objectif principal étant de replacer les Marca dans un contexte géographique, historique et culturel, de comprendre leur organisation et leur spécificité et de définir leur style de façon précise à partir des œuvres connues afin de pouvoir tenter de nouvelles attributions. / The topic of this thesis is the Marca dynasty, a piedmontese family from the Valsesia area, specialized in the stucco work. In the early eighteenth century, some of its members migrated to the Franche-Comté in France, in search of work, the others remaining in Piedmont. Their realizations can be studied in religious places and private houses in Italy, in Franche-Comté and Burgundy. These works (altars, pulpits, statues and bas-reliefs in stucco) were created between the late seventeenth century and the early nineteenth century. This topic is entirely unpublished, especially as the information on this family are rare and scattered. Moreover, no research has been undertaken on it, neither in France nor in Italy. This study is well an analysis on this Italian family and its activity. The thesis provides an accurate biography of each member, defines the organization, methods and techniques of the stucco work, the inventory of their works, and position them in the artistic and religious context of their time. The archives of Burgundy, Doubs, Jura, Haute-Saône in France and of the regions of Biella and Vercelli in Italy have been exploited. Visit a large number of Italian and French buildings decorated with Marca’s furniture or near their style has been also necessary to carry out this work. The main objective was to place the Marca dynasty in its geographical, historical and cultural context, to understand its organization and specificity, to define accurately its style from recognized works, to be able to propose new attributions.

An analysis of SB740's effects on California's nonclassroom-based charter schools' expenditure decisions

This study examined the effects of one particular piece of legislation on California's nonclassroom-based charter schools. In 2001, the California State Legislature passed SB 740, a bill designed in part to limit funding of nonclassroom-based charter schools to instances when the State Board of Education has made a determination of funding. The determination of funding is based on prescribed spending levels as outlined in regulations governing the implementation of SB 740. The literature on charter schools contains very few studies on charter school expenditure levels. This study provided an important addition to the literature on charter school spending. This study's literature review included such topics as charter school autonomy and charter school accountability, home schooling, school choice, charter school legislation, policy implementation, and charter school spending patterns. 10 administrators, who were in nonclassroom-based leadership positions before, during, and after the implementation of SB 740, were interviewed. The researcher compiled and analyzed the results to find themes that emerged from the administrators' insights. Results and conclusions included: (a) the respondents perceived that SB 740 successfully purged the non-classroom based charter school movement of many schools that were engaged in abusive fiduciary practices, (b) the respondents thought the regulations were overly constricting, especially in the areas of facilities costs and reserve funds, (c) the respondents voiced concern that small schools attempting innovative practices and programs may have been forced to close due to their inability to meet the SB 740 funding determination guidelines, and (d) unexpected consequences of SB 740 included division between the ranks of classroom-based and nonclassroom-based charter schools, the formation of a nonclassroom-based advocacy group, and increased teacher salaries.

Optics and spectroscopy of gold nanowires

We have reported the optical properties of isolated gold nanowires and of nanowire arrays. Despite the advantages gold has to offer as it is less sensitive to oxidation and as an biocompatible metal, it has been scarcely studied than silver or semiconductors nanowires. We have made surface enhanced Raman spectroscopic (SERS) studies on the isolated nanowires and nanowire arrays. Single molecule regime is attained and has been proven with the aid of two dye molecules that are co-deposited. The propagation of surface plasmons in these nanowires and their evolution with the excitation wavelength have been studied. We report a propagation distance of 3.8 µm which is longer than the values previously reported in literature. Nanowire arrays have been investigated with two dyes again to disentangle the various factors contributing to SERS. Polarization studies and the evolution of enhancement in the nanowires with the wavelength have been reported and explained with the aid of simulations obtained by the discrete dipole approximation (DDA). The scanning near field optical microscopy (SNOM) has been done to investigate the local field enhancements on the nanowire arrays. Two different polarizations and two excitation wavelengths have been used. The original idea of the technique includes the use of two illumination modes which serves two purposes. One, to map the regions of enhanced field and the other to study the propagation effects seen on the nanowire.

Otto Pankoks (1893 - 1966) Kunstwerke können Heranwachsende in ihrer Erfahrungswelt noch immer ansprechen, da mit ihnen Bildwerke vorliegen, die in besonderer Weise Auskunft geben über die Geschichte Gottes mit den Menschen. Christliche Themen wie ″der wahre Mensch″, ″Liebe″, ″Leid″, ″das Böse″, ″Schuld″ und ″Sünde″ werden darin künstlerisch bearbeitet. Besonders seine Kohlebilder spiegeln persönliches Empfinden und christliches Weltbild in besonderer Authentizität. Sie sind aufgeladen mit zeitgeschichtlichem Erleben und dem Suchen nach verstehbaren Antworten. In ihnen lassen sich fünf Motivgruppen mit eindeutiger exegetischer und religionsdidaktischer Relevanz erkennen.
