Using the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development to complement existing leadership training approaches / Användning av ramverket för Strategisk Hållbar Utveckling (FSSD) för att kompletera existerande ledarskapsutbildningar

Safra, Natalie, Nystrom, Josefin, Deng, Hanzhu January 2009 (has links)
This thesis examines approaches consultants use to assist organizational leaders in moving strategically towards sustainability. The Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD), is examined to understand how one can overcome and address the complex challenges that consultants face in assisting leaders to develop appropriate leadership skills and sustainability knowledge that will allow them to lead their organizations strategically towards sustainability. Two consulting firms located in London are reviewed. From this research, an ideal way of using the FSSD called the Strategic Leadership Training Framework (SLTF) is proposed as a tool to guide and supplement current approaches used by consulting firms to improve their leadership training programs. A gap analysis compares the SLTF and the current approaches used by consultants. The SLTF can be used as a tool to assist consultants to find the gaps between the approaches they use and the SLTF. Finally, emotional intelligence and a definition of sustainability are found to be a key factor for a leader to be successful when moving their organization strategically towards sustainability.

: a conservation genetics study

Nascimento, Joana do 16 January 2013 (has links)
Nowadays, population expansion and human growing needs in term of services provided by ecosystems biodiversity has become one of the major issues of conservation biology. Fisheries development and the resulting over-exploitation of marine species are heavily impacting marine resources and can furthermore lead to a genetic diversity tumble undermining species adaptive abilities. The GIPREOL transdisciplinary program, conducted by the University of La Rochelle and IODDE partnership, intends on measuring the consequences of coastal development and providing an accordingly suitable and sustainable management plan for the Marennes-Oléron territory. Our study focuses on the velvet swimming crab (Necora puber), a decapod crustacean highly targeted by both professional and recreational fisheries. In order to assess the impacts of such exploitation on Necora puber populations along the eastern coasts of Europe, we analyse the genetic polymorphism of the COI mitochondrial gene and 10 microsatellites loci from 29 European sites with contrasted degrees of anthropogenic pressures. Our results depicted a clear signature of recent demographic expansion from the last glacial maximum of the Pleistocene era combined with an overall low polymorphism. As for the genetic structure within the zone, microsatellites markers revealed a recent differentiation of populations, raising issues concerning the velvet swimming crab European populations future. Lastly, the dispersal abilities of the species were investigated and showed a significant dispersal potential over large distances.

Altas habilidades/superdotação e acadêmicos idosos: o direito à identificação / High abilities/gifted and elderly scholars: the right to identification

Costa, Leandra Costa da 12 February 2016 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation is associated to the doctoral program in Education from the Graduation Program in Education from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and belongs to the Research Line LP3 Special Education. The relevance and need of this study proposal lies on the fact that there are no studies on high abilities/gifted (HA/G) directed to the identification of elderly people and also in the lack of theoretical contributions that support this discussion. The objective of this study was to identify HA/G in elderly scholars inserted in the undergraduate program of the Federal University of Santa Maria, located in Rio Grande do Sul (RS) in order for them to be able to recognize themselves with indicators and characteristics of HA/G) and receive educational service consistent with their needs. Thus, it was developed a tool that allowed the identification of HA/G in elderly scholars in order to facilitate their insertion the social and academic environment. This qualitative research is characterized as a case study. The participants of this investigation were eight scholars that were more than 60 years old, who entered UFSM through vestibular for attending mode , and that are nowadays regular students of the institution in the graduation courses. Following a theoretical framework that serves as basis for the study and the data collected, categories of analysis were selected based on the premises of Content Analysis (BARDIN, 2011). Among the instruments that were part of this study, there is the individual questionnaire used to identify the indicators of HA/G in Elderly People (QIIAHSDI), adapted from Pérez (2008), that went through a process of validation previous to its application, a Personal Information Form (PIF) used in order to obtain personal, family, work, and leisure activities information, and also a semi-structures interview. Many of the common indicators found in the studies carried out with adults cited by Pérez (2008) and Delpretto (2009) were noticed in the elderly participants, such as curiosity, creativity, leadership, persistence, high sense of humor, autonomy, and preference for challenges. The identification of elderly people will favor adequate educational alternatives and recognition of their behaviors and potentialities, since it is a necessity to identify them, favoring their understanding according to their personal, intelectual, and emotional characteristics linked to HA/G.

Peranzoni, Vaneza Cauduro 27 May 2013 (has links)
The overall goal of this PhD thesis was to know the indicators of high ability / giftedness in students of Physical Education, University of Cruz Alta, RS. The higher education institution has a core of support for the student with special needs, providing pedagogic approach to academics. However, this sector had no official statistical data on the existence of students with high ability / gifted. In this sense, the research will contribute to the core collecting information necessary and relevant to its real purpose in seeking answers to many concerns that these students have, on the premise that the real inclusion of students with high ability / gifted only occur when education engage with them. The specific objectives of the thesis aimed to identify indicators of high ability / gifted students in the Physical Education course, describe the characteristics of indicators of high ability / gifted academic in the present, to understand the perception of academics with indicators of high ability / gifted about themselves as individuals in vocational training and contribute to the formation of teachers' degree course in Physical Education from the University of Cruz Alta. The research was conducted with 30 students from the 7th semester of graduation in Physical Education from the University of Cruz Alta, RS - which met a total of 14 students with characteristics of high ability / gifted. The profile of respondents is old people, aged over 21 years. The choice of this course is because of the same work with the psychomotor area and body-kinesthetic, thus allowing to investigate the three types of high ability / giftedness proposed by Renzulli (1986): the academic, the productive, creative and academic and productive and creative. For data collection we used three instruments: an information in order to delineate the social profile of the subjects, a questionnaire with open questions about the academic life of the subjects and their perceptions about the theme and a specific questionnaire for identifying indicators high abilities / giftedness in adults. After applying the questionnaires, the analysis and discussion of the data and came to the following conclusion: among the subjects surveyed, 7 show indicators of high / skills giftedness. This index can be projected onto other universities as well, there is an urgent need for educational policies geared to students with high ability / gifted.

Jinochová, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to find out the level of motoric abilities at younger school age children who take part in social dance. I tested the level of motoric abilities using the test battery Unifittest (6 - 60). I compared the level of motoric abilities at younger school age children who take part in social dance and at younger school age children who only attend PE lessons. I tried to find out the change of the level in motoric abilities at the two above mentioned groups. I also tried to discover the type and frequency of other sport activities which children regularly do in their free time. Empirically focused part of my thesis substantiate that children of the younger school age, who take part in social dance, achieved a bigger improvement of fitness and coordinative motoric abilities. The biggest improvement was in the test of flexibility. On the basis of the questionnaire survey I found out, that children of the younger school age who do not take part in social dance, very often devote to football in their leisure. Možnosti validizace nástroje Cognitive Assessment System II na populaci dětí se speciálními vzdělávacími potřebami / Possible validation of the assessment tool Cognitive Assessment System II

Mejstříková, Jitka January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this work is to introduce a new assessment method of children's cognitive abilities, the Cognitive Assessment System 2, to examine its criterion concurrent validity in a population of children with special educational needs and analyze the test profiles of these children. In the theoretical part of the work various assessment tools of children's cognitive abilities are presented. The Cognitive Assessment System 2 is also introduced. In the empirical part concurrent criterion validity of the CAS2 is examined via the correlation between the results of CAS2 and the results of other commonly used intelligence tests - it is examined on a sample of children with specific learning disabilities and children with below- average intelligence or mental retardation. The test profiles of children from both groups are analyzed. It was found that the overall scores in the method CAS2 highly correlate with total scores of the WISC-III in a group of children with a below-average intelligence and mental retardation, and with total scores of the WISC-III or the K-ABC in a group of children with specific learning disabilities. This is considered as evidence of the concurrent criterion validity of the CAS2. It was found that the children with a below-average intellect and mental retardation have balanced...

Educational Drama in an English Teaching Classroom : An Empirical Study with Educational Drama as a Method Used in a English Teaching Classroom for Grades 4 to 6.

Gustafsson, Hanna January 2017 (has links)
This study examines the English teaching classroom in grades 4 to 6. The problem for the study is the teachers‘attitude towards educational drama used in an English teaching classroom. The purpose is therefore to examine the teachers´ attitudes and how educational drama is used in an English teaching classroom. Furthermore, the purpose examines the teachers’ attitude towards the pupils’ capabilities to develop linguistic- and psychosocial abilities through educational drama used in an English teaching classroom. The result is based on interviews from teachers in grades 4 to 6. Onwards, the result contains only statements from the participants and is constructed by this study’s purpose and issues. Through the researchers ‘and teachers’ statements the conclusion for the study is that the pupils develop psychosocial abilities which in turn also develop the pupils’ linguistic abilities. The method used is a qualitative method with a phenomenologically-inspired theory.
