Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / O presente estudo tem por finalidade refletir sobre as contribuições do aconselhamento pastoral, com ênfase na espiritualidade, em pacientes oncológicos. O câncer é uma doença que pode instaurar um sério momento de crise e afetar todas as áreas da vida de uma pessoa. Desse modo, torna-se pertinente apresentar definições e tipos de crises, assim como a natureza e os processos dinâmicos que envolvem uma crise. No caso deste estudo, isto é realizado na perspectiva do aconselhamento pastoral e buscando referenciar biblicamente situações de crises. Também é necessário compreender o câncer nos seus aspectos gerais e analisar como esta doença, que acomete um número cada vez maior de pessoas, provoca diversas alterações no universo do paciente e de sua família. Ao final da pesquisa são abordados três modelos de aconselhamento pastoral que preconizam a espiritualidade em situações de crises, tais modelos são: os modelos de Gary Collins, Howard Clinebell, concebidos em um contexto norte-americano e o modelo de Daniel Schipani, construído a partir da realidade latino- americana. Além disso, é descrito um exemplo de aconselhamento pastoral dentro de um contexto hospitalar. Em suas diferentes visões, os modelos de aconselhamento pastoral pesquisados fornecem subsídios importantes para auxiliar as comunidades de fé a cumprirem sua missão de servir ao próximo, através do apoio e suporte a pacientes oncológicos. / The present study aims to reflect on the contributions of pastoral counseling, with emphasis on spirituality in cancer patients. Cancer is a disease that can bring a moment of crisis and seriously affect all areas of a person's life. Thus, it is pertinent to present some definitions and types of crises, as well as the nature and the dynamic processes involving a crisis. In this study, this is done throught the pastoral counseling and in the seeking for biblical references for the crisis. It is also necessary to understand the cancer in its general aspects and analyze how this disease that affects a growing number of people, causes several changes in the patient and in his family. At the end of the study three models of pastoral counseling that preconize spiruality in crisis situations are discussed, such models are: the Gary Collins models, Howard Clinebell, designed in the North American context and the model of Daniel Schipani, based on the Latin American reality. In addition, we describe an example of pastoral counseling in a hospital setting. In their different visions, the pastoral counseling models surveyed provide important support to assist faith communities to fulfill its mission that is to serve others, throught the support to cancer patients.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Esta dissertação tem como objeto de pesquisa a família de pessoa com autismo e, como o Aconselhamento Pastoral pode contribuir como apoio em uma situação assim, ou semelhante. Procura-se com este trabalho ter uma compreensão melhor da questão do autismo, através do relato de um caso, e pretende-se perceber os caminhos que o Aconselhamento Pastoral tem apontado para contribuir em casos como este. O primeiro capítulo apresenta a situação real de uma família que, constata através de diagnóstico, que seu filho é portador de autismo. Dessa forma, será descrito como é entrar em contato com esta realidade constatar que o filho é portador de autismo. No segundo capítulo são averiguados três conceitos: autismo, família e cuidado. Com relação ao conceito autismo, faz-se um estudo sobre definição, história e diagnóstico, para compreensão deste tema que ainda não é tão explorado. Depois, aborda-se a questão da família, com destaque para os sentimentos e crises que envolvem uma família com um filho/a com autismo. Por fim, apresenta-se a questão do cuidado. O propósito do segundo capítulo é estabelecer um tripé, que será necessário para a sequência da pesquisa. O terceiro capítulo apresenta o Aconselhamento Pastoral como referencial para apoio em casos como o que será abordado no primeiro capitulo. O capítulo se inicia com algumas definições, depois é discorrido sobre as bases bíblicas e teológicas do Aconselhamento Pastoral e suas raízes históricas e, na sequência, é apontado como o Aconselhamento Pastoral pode contribuir para a ajuda e a restauração das famílias que enfrentam crises profundas é dado ênfase neste ponto no Aconselhamento Pastoral Sistêmico. O quarto, e último capítulo, apresenta algumas possibilidades que o Aconselhamento Pastoral pode oferecer para ajuda às famílias com um filho com autismo. Apresenta-se alguns apontamentos de contribuição na ajuda espiritual, eclesiástica e familiar para a família que vivencia a realidade do autismo. / This dissertation has as research object the family with an autistic child and as the Pastoral Counseling can contribute as support in a situation like this, or similar. Search with this study to have a better understanding of the issue of the autism, through the report of a case, and intend to understand the ways that The Pastoral Counseling has shown to help in cases like these. The first chapter presents the actual situation of a family that, notes through diagnosis that your child is suffering from autism. Thus, is described as is contact with this reality-note that the child is suffering from autism. In the second chapter are investigated three concepts: autism, family and care. With respect to the concept of autism, a study on definition, history and diagnosis, to understanding of this subject that not yet so is explored. Later, it is approached question of the family, with emphasis on the feelings and crises that involve a family with a childs autism. Finally, it presents the issue of care. The purpose of the second chapter is to establish a tripod, that will be necessary to the sequence of the research. Este trabalho tem como objetivo buscar a compreensão da vivência de um casal de pais diante da perda de um filho, bem como compreender sentimentos e reações para um possível entendimento de luto. O procedimento metodológico foi apoiado na fenomenologia. Utilizou-se como instrumento referências bibliográficas. A análise fenomenológica do assunto relata a compreensão das significações essenciais sistematizadas em várias categorias: raiva, culpa, angústia e ansiedade, perda da fé, tristeza, solidão, depressão, crises familiares, sensações físicas e comportamentos diante da perda. Também estão inseridas as teorias a respeito do acompanhamento psicológico com pessoas enlutadas e alguns conceitos como: morte, luto, fases do luto, ciclo de vida e perda de filho. Busca-se indicativos teóricos para a prática com pais enlutados, como grupo de suporte ao luto, terapia de família, terapia individual e aconselhamento do luto, visando auxiliar na reorganização de suas vidas após a morte de um filho. / This paper aims to seek the understanding of the experience of one set of parents facing the loss of a child, and understand feelings and reactions to a possible understanding of mourning. The methodological approach was supported by the phenomenology. It was used as an instrument of search the bibliography references. The phenomenological analysis of the subject reports the systematic understanding of the essential meanings in various categories: anger, guilt, grief and anxiety, loss of faith, grief, loneliness, depression, family crisis, physical sensations and behaviors in the face of loss. Also included are theories about the psychological counseling to the bereaved and some concepts such as death, grief, stages of grief, cycle of life and loss of a son. [pt] O trabalho de investigação proposto por esta tese não é outro senão a análise objetiva da diferença entre aconselhamento pastoral e método psicanalítico de abordagem do inconsciente. Contudo o que pode parecer simples numa primeira visada leva a labirintos e meandros muito mais passíveis de confundir do que de aclarar as ideias já conturbadas no momento histórico pelo qual passa a humanidade. Esta tese procura provar a importância dos dois seguimentos a que está exposto o ser humano na tentativa de autopercepção, no que essa operação contempla da busca de sentido para si e para o outro. Por isso a religião se torna importante em qualquer seguimento científico fundado no princípio da busca do bem comum, posto que a contemporaneidade não afastou do repertório existencial do ser humano a religiosidade, que permanece indissociável dele. O método desenvolvido por Sigmund Freud, notadamente reconhecido como um dos métodos que mais têm aguçado e influenciado as ciências cognitivas ao longo de quase dois séculos, se apresenta, embora jovem, como fonte inspiradora de investigação nas ciências humanas de forma geral. A pergunta que se pretende responder é: seria possível uma audição equilibrada, por parte do conselheiro pastoral e do psicanalista, se tanto a religião quanto a psicanálise, formadas da matéria-prima do desvelamento do sentido da vida por meio do pensamento, poderiam contribuir para o amadurecimento do ser humano como pessoa? Quais seriam as possíveis respostas a essa pergunta? Esta pesquisa busca contribuir com o desvendamento dessas incógnitas. / [en] The investigation work proposed by this thesis is none other than the objective analysis of the difference between the religious counseling and the psychoanalytical method of the unconscious approach. Yet what may seem simple at first sight leads to mazes and intricacies much more likely to confuse than to clarify the ideas already troubled in the historical moment that passes the humanity. This thesis seeks to prove the importance of the two segments to which it is exposed the human being in an attempt to self-perception, as this operation includes searching for meaning for themselves and each other. So the religion becomes important in any scientific segment based on the principle of the search of the common good, since the contemporaneity did not remove the existential repertory of the human religiosity, which remains inseparable from him. The method developed by Sigmund Freud, notably recognized as one of the methods that are more pointed and influenced the cognitive sciences over almost two centuries, presents, although young as an inspiring source of investigation in the Human Sciences in general. The question which is to be answered is: would be possible a balanced hearing, by the pastoral counseling and psychoanalyst, if both religion and psychoanalysis, formed by the raw material of the unveiling of the meaning of life through thought, could help the maturation of the human being as a person? What would be the possible answers to this question? This research seeks to contribute to the unveiling of these unknowns.

Even in theological seminars there exist classes of Introduction to Psychology, where students learn some techniques and skills such as empathy, body language, among olhers. It is well known that pastoral counselors are not explicitly even though inclined to the use of psychological instrumentation in their offices. This work shows the contradictory discourse of many contemporaries focused on the argumentation of the sufficiency of the scriptures , for the so called nouthetic couseling. The Holy scriptures are really sufficient, this sufficiency is revealed in itself, and what happens is that there is a confusion of terms because the proper Scripture speaks of a human work, Common Grace and aspects of welfare of the human being, which aren t for salvation, in salvation is the case of the sufficiency of eternal revelation. Pastoral counseling has its reach as well as a professional psychological treatment has its own, however they are distinct areas. Through literature searches this work shows the connection of positive aspects between the integrationism of Christian spirituality and family therapy in support of resilience. That, which is not achieved at pastoral counseling, comes from the professional psychologist, who also has his/her limits in psychiatric cases. Therefore, each one has his/her scope and where the field of one ends the other starts. / O presente trabalho tem como objetivo mostrar como aconselhamento pastoral e a participação em grupos cristãos podem atuar como mecanismo de fortalecimento da resiliência no contexto familiar, ao mesmo tempo trazer a observação que o aconselhamento eficaz pode exigir do conselheiro, dependendo do caso, um encaminhamento para outro terapeuta, o profissional da psicologia. Nos próprios seminários teológicos existem as aulas de Introdução a Psicologia, onde os alunos aprendem algumas técnicas e conhecimentos como empatia, linguagem corporal entre outras. É bem sabido que os conselheiros pastorais mesmo não sendo explicitamente a favor,usam ferramentas da psicologia nos gabinetes pastorais. O trabalho mostra a fala contraditória de muitos contemporâneos focados na argumentação da Suficiencia das Escrituras , para o aconselhamento chamado noutético. As Sagradas Escrituras realmente são suficientes, a suficiência é nela revelada, o que acontece é que há uma confusão de termos pois a própria escritura fala do trabalho humano, da Graça Comum e de aspectos de bem estar do ser humano que não são salvíficos, pois a salvação eterna é o caso da suficiência da revelação. O aconselhamento pastoral tem o seu alcance assim como o tratamento psicológico profissional o seu, são áreas distintas. Através de pesquisas bibliográficas o trabalho mostra a conectividade de aspectos positivos entre o integracionismo da espiritualidade cristã e a terapia familiar em apoio à resiliência. O que não é alçada do aconselhamento pastoral é do profissional psicólogo, que também tem seus limites em casos psiquiatricos, assim vemos que cada um tem ao seu alcançe e onde acaba o terreno de um começa o do outro.

Este trabalho aborda temas relacionados com o conceito e a prática do cuidado pastoral, com as contribuições da análise junguiana para a orientação e o aconselhamento cristão, bem como estuda as ligações entre a terapêutica junguiana e a poimênica. Em sua consecução, parte da assertiva de que o cuidado pastoral e o aconselhamento cristão estão vinculados aos ministérios da igreja, no sentido da diaconia, aos serviços que implicam a ajuda a pessoas e grupos, porque lhes oferece a perspectiva da fé e da revelação. Desenvolve a idéia de que a psicologia analítica pode oferecer um método adequado às necessidades cristãs, tendo em vista que a abordagem junguiana possibilita tanto a transformação e a integração dos conteúdos psíquicos, quanto uma tomada do caminho do conhecimento de si mesmo, sendo que ambas essas resultantes também apontam para os benefícios da orientação espiritual e religiosa, mostrando que este é o encontro e a relação principal entre a análise junguiana, o cuidado pastoral e a própria religião. No desenvolvimento dessas perspectivas foram exploradas as dimensões religiosas e simbólicas da psique e da teologia da cruz enquanto vértices para uma efetiva cura da alma / This paper discusses issues related to the concept and practice of pastoral care, with contributions from Jungian analysis for Christian guidance and counseling, as well as studies the links between Jungian therapy and pastoral care. To accomplish this, it is based on the assertion that the Christian counseling and pastoral care are linked to the ministries of the church, in the sense of diakonia, to the services that involve helping people and groups, because it offers them the prospect of faith and revelation. It develops the idea that analytical psychology can offer a suitable method for Christian needs, considering that the Jungian approach enables both the transformation and integration of psychic contents, as well as taking on the path of self-knowledge, and both of these results also point to the benefits of spiritual and religious guidance, showing that this is the main meeting of and relationship between Jungian analysis, pastoral care, and religion itself. In developing these perspectives religious and symbolic dimensions of the psyche and the theology of the cross as vertices for effective healing of the soul were explored.

Dessa forma, apresenta tanto uma breve análise dos traços característicos deste tempo e suas influências sobre os sujeitos humanos, com ênfase nos aspectos que tendem a desestabilizar a experiência existencial, quanto discorre sobre as mais destacadas escolas de aconselhamento pastoral, suas intuições e estratégias de acolhimento das inquietudes e angústias dos que demandam apoio e cuidado. Evidencia a relevância da elaboração de novo modelo de aconselhamento capaz de lidar com a intricada gramatica do sofrimento em nossos dias. Para tanto, destaca a necessidade vital da renovação de esforços que visem superar os dualismos que empobrecem as ações curativas da Igreja Cristã, bem como ultrapassar as barreiras que impedem a enriquecedora troca conversacional entre os diversos saberes e entre as variadas comunidades de fé. A pesquisa aponta ainda para Cristo, maravilhoso conselheiro, como modelo por excelência da atividade e ação dos eclesianos e das eclesianas engajados na promoção do bem-estar integral da família humana. Além disso, reflete sobre a tradição do povo de Deus e a natureza terapêutica da igreja como fontes de inspiração e motivação para a prática do cuidado interpessoal. Conclui que o aconselhamento pastoral integral, por consequência, dialógico, ecumênico, honestamente aberto para interações francas, respeitosas e enriquecedoras, consiste na expressão mais eficaz e abrangente dessa modalidade de ajuda oferecida pela comunidade Cristã. Este trabalho busca dar contribuição singela para o desenvolvimento deste modelo de aconselhamento. / [en] The thesis deals with pastoral counselling from a rounded perspective. Therefore it presents both a brief analysis of the characteristic traces of this time and its influences on human subjects, with emphasis on the aspects that tend to destabilize the existential experience, while it describes the most outstanding schools of pastoral counselling, its intuitions and strategies to accommodate the concerns and anxieties of those who require support and care. It shows the relevance of the elaboration of a new model of counselling, capable of dealing with the intricate grammar of suffering in our days. With views to this, we underline the vital necessity of renewing efforts to surpass the dualisms that impoverish the healing actions of the Christian Church, as well as overcoming the barriers that hinder the enriching conversational exchange among the different fields of knowledge and diverse faith communities. The research still points to Christ, marvelous counsellor, as a model par excellence for church members activity and action for the full well-being of the human family. In addition to this, it reflects on the tradition of God s people and the therapeutic nature of the church as sources of inspiration and motivation for the practice of interpersonal care. We conclude that rounded pastoral counselling, and consequently, dialogical, ecumenical, honestly open to frank, respectful and enriching interactions, consists in the most effective and encompassing expression of this type of help offered by the Christian community. This paper strives to give a simple contribution to the development of this counselling model.

Critically rethinking the models of Pastoral Counseling (PC) from the main authors published in Brazil on the subject, it seems that the how to do pastoral counseling is fundamental As well as meditating on the how to use the Bible in the care and assistance cases in counseling should be directly related to knowing how to listen and discern the needs of others. Therefore, it is useful to integrate the reflection and practice of pastoral care, while counseling, the prospects of spirituality and human behavior sciences with the methodology of PRB. The PRB lends its hermeneutic view, judgement and acting and takes the Paulo Freires pedagogy in relational processes between advisor and advisee. This work intends to propose such a world reading that starts from the life lived taking into account age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, marital status, gender, etc., in order to provide integral health to the human being. This type of comprehensive reading with the contributions of PRB can better promote the skills for listening that recognizes the relationships in Pastoral Counseling as an educational and liberating process between advisor and advisee. Process in which the contextualized, integral and liberating reading of the Bible and humanities light the way for a more humanizing life. / O presente trabalho aborda as contribuições da Leitura Popular da Bíblia (LPB), na perspectiva de Carlos Mesters, para os processos de cuidado no Aconselhamento Pastoral (AP). Ao repensar criticamente os modelos de Aconselhamento Pastoral (AP), a partir dos principais autores publicados no Brasil sobre o tema, verifica-se que o como fazer do aconselhamento pastoral é fundamental. Da mesma forma que refletir o como usar a Bíblia nos processos de cuidado e auxílio no aconselhamento deveria estar diretamente relacionado ao saber escutar e discernir a necessidade do outro. Sendo assim, é proveitoso integrar à reflexão e prática do cuidado pastoral, enquanto aconselhamento, as perspectivas da espiritualidade e das ciências do comportamento humano com a metodologia da LPB. A LPB empresta seu modo hermenêutico de ver, julgar e agir e aproveita a pedagogia de Paulo Freire nos processos relacionais entre aconselhador/a e aconselhando/a. Este trabalho pretende assim propor uma leitura de mundo que parta da vida vivida levando em consideração a idade, etnia, situação socioeconômica, estado civil, gênero, etc., no sentido de proporcionar saúde integral ao ser humano. Este tipo de leitura articulada com as contribuições da LPB pode promover melhor as habilidades para a escuta que reconheça as relações no Aconselhamento Pastoral como um processo pedagógico e libertador entre aconselhador/a e aconselhando/a. Processo em que a leitura contextualizada, integral e libertadora da Bíblia e ciências humanas iluminam o caminho para uma vida mais humanizadora.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst / Igreja Evangélica de Confissão Luterana no Brasil / O presente trabalho propõe refletir sobre o conceito de pessoa na esfera interdisciplinar da Bioética, voltando-se para o Aconselhamento Pastoral. Para tanto, utiliza o tema dos transplantes de órgãos. Ao interar-se sobre a realidade dos transplantes de órgãos, tal como se manifesta na medicina, no direito e na reflexão filosófica, o Aconselhamento Pastoral atualiza seu fazer teológico prático de acompanhamento de pessoas envolvidas no transplante e de suas famílias, o que ocorre a partir do conhecimento de seus medos e cuidados necessários, característicos de cada fase. O primeiro capítulo propõe uma aproximação da realidade dos transplantes através de 4 casos. O segundo capítulo apresenta o debate atual sobre o conceito de pessoa, a partir de 5 correntes filosóficas que recebem destaque no debate bioético e da antropologia cristã. O terceiro capítulo volta-se para a legislação brasileira referente ao tema da transplantação. O último capítulo, enriquecido com os conteúdos precedentes, por sua vez, apresenta uma contribuição prático-teológica para o tema proposto a partir da compreensão da comunidade terapêutica. Pessoa é um tema central, cuja compreensão deve ser constantemente situada no tempo e no espaço, a fim de que a dignidade humana possa ser respeitada. / The present paper intends to approach the concept of person in the interdisciplinar context of Bioethics, focusing on Pastoral Counseling. Therefore, it uses the theme of organ transplantation as framework. By studying the reality of organ transplantation as it is currently presented by disciplines such as Medicine, Law and Philosophy, the Pastoral Counseling updates its Theological practice of supporting people who are involved in the process of transplantation and their families. This demands the knowledge of their fears as well as of all necessary cares, which vary according to the different stages of transplantation. The first chapter proposes an approach of the reality of transplantation through 4 different cases. The second chapter presents the current debate about the concept of person, according to 5 different schools, as it takes place in Bioethics, and according to Christian Anthropology. The third chapter goes into the Brazilian law regarding the issue of transplantation. The last chapter, once enriched by the precedent discussions, develops a Practical-Theological contribution to the issue of transplantation by means of the concept of Therapeutic Community. The person is a capital concept and therefore it must be constantly updated in time and space in order that human dignity can be respected.

O tema autoajuda tem invadido sem reservas a vida das pessoas no mundo atual. Esse tema, como um desdobramento cultural da modernidade tardia, está presente na literatura, na arte, na filosofia, nas discussões políticas e na administração de empresas. Está presente na pluralidade religiosa, na teologia cristã e nos consultórios de psicólogos e na psicanálise. O fenômeno cultural gigantesco não se limita a um segmento, mas, como iremos notar, faz-se presente em várias camadas sociais, desde as mais simples nas periferias das grandes cidades, até os moradores da zona rural nos rincões do mundo, alcançando a classe média e, aparentemente, fazendo dela sua promotora, interlocutora e reveladora. Uma vez que a cultura de autoajuda transita no mundo das crenças, é plausível admitir que se trate de um fenômeno não somente de natureza psico-física, ambiental ou de desenvolvimento, mas também de um fenômeno metafísico. Autoajuda como cultura recebe e empresta influências no campo religioso. Autoajuda serve a propósitos de filosofias que agrupam o conhecimento técnico em algumas áreas, tais como a psicologia, a administração e a medicina, dentre outras com as experiências transcendentais advindas das mais distintas religiões e crenças. Existe uma inquietação no sentido de que essa cultura de autoajuda já faz parte da vida das pessoas de comunidades cristãs que estão trocando o aconselhamento pastoral e a poimênica por essas leituras. O resultado de tais leituras é um movimento em direção ao individualismo, ao secularismo e pluralização que são desdobramentos dessa época em que vivemos. Nessa pesquisa, vamos trabalhar com a hipótese que o aconselhamento cristão é uma melhor resposta aos anseios das pessoas do que a cultura de autoajuda. O tema do aconselhamento pastoral será pontuado a partir da obra de Howard Clinebell, Aconselhamento pastoral: modelo centrado em libertação e crescimento. No primeiro capítulo, vamos trazer algumas definições de autoajuda. A partir dessas definições, vamos tentar nos aproximar de uma definição que traga os aportes que cumpram o papel de delimitar uma compreensão de autoajuda. A fim de sustentar a compreensão de autoajuda, trataremos, ainda nesse capítulo, da origem da literatura de autoajuda, tanto de um ponto de vista histórico antigo e filosófico quanto de uma posição sobre sua ascensão na cultura moderna. Esse capítulo vai tratar ainda da literatura de autoajuda e sua relação com a autonomia do indivíduo. Para tanto, vamos utilizar os textos de Francisco Ricardo Rüdiger, Auto-ajuda e individualismo. O capítulo dois trará uma introdução a Howard Clinebell, sua metodologia, seus propósitos ao escrever Aconselhamento pastoral: modelo centrado em libertação e crescimento. Apresentaremos o atual desafio da poimênica e do aconselhamento pastoral; e um modelo holístico centrado em cura e crescimento, bem como uma definição do trabalho do conselheiro cristão. Também serão abordadas nesse capítulo as técnicas mais usadas no aconselhamento pastoral. O ambiente do trabalho pastoral também será apontado nesse capítulo. E, finalmente, apresentamos nesse capítulo os cuidados do trabalho do conselheiro cristão. No capítulo três, faremos uma comparação entre o aconselhamento pastoral segundo Clinebell e as propostas da cultura de autoajuda com o conceito de vida plena e as seis dimensões da integralidade. Na conclusão do trabalho, pretendemos responder a nossa inquietação sobre a utilização por membros da comunidade cristã de literatura de autoajuda e responder a hipótese que o aconselhamento cristão é uma melhor resposta aos anseios das pessoas do que a cultura/literatura de autoajuda. / The theme of self-help has invaded without reservation the lives of people in the actual world. This topic as a cultural offshoot of late modernity is present in literature, art, philosophy, political discussions and in business administration. It is present in the plurality of religion, in Christian theology, and the offices of psychologists and psychoanalysis. The huge cultural phenomenon does not limits itself to one segment, but according to our research, we will notice it is presence in various strata of society from the simplest on the outskirts of large cities to the rural residents in the corners of the world, reaching the middle class and apparently making the latter its promoter, partner and developer. Since the culture of self-help transits in the world of beliefs it is reasonable to assume that it is a phenomenon not only of psyco-physical nature, environmental or development and industrial production and technology, but also a metaphysical phenomenon. Self-help culture receives and borrows influences in the religious field. Self-help serves the purposes of philosophies that combine the expertise in some areas of psychophysical nature, management, medicine, and others with the transcendent experience coming from the most diverse religions and beliefs. There is a concern in the sense that this culture of self-help plays great role in the lives of the Christian communities that are replacing the pastoral counseling and pastoral care to these readings. The result of such readings is a movement towards individualism, secularism and plurality that are developed in the present age. This research will work with the hypothesis that Christian counseling is a better response to the expectation of the people of that culture of self-help. The theme of pastoral counseling will be approached based on the work of Howard Clinebell: Basic Types of Pastoral Care and Counseling: Resources for the Ministry of Healing and Growth. The first chapter will bring some definitions of self-help. It is expected that these definitions will bring the inputs to delineate an understanding of self-help. In order to support the understanding of self-help the chapter will point out also the origin of self-help literature, both from a historical point of view and ancient philosophical as well as its position in the rise in modern culture. This chapter will also address the self-help literature and its relation to individual autonomy. For this the texts of Francisco Ricardo Rüdiger: Self-Help and Individualism will be used. Chapter two will bring an introduction to Howard Clinebell, its methodology, its purpose in writing Basic Types of Pastoral Care and Counseling: Resources for the Ministry of Healing and Growth. We will present the actual challenge of pastoral care and pastoral counseling, and a holistic model focusing on healing and growth, as well as defining the work of the Christian counselor. We will also discuss the techniques used in pastoral counseling. The work environment of this ministry will also be identified. And finally this chapter will point out the care of the work of Christian counselor. In chapter three we will do a comparison of pastoral counseling according to Clinebell and the proposals of the culture of self-help within the concept of full life and the six dimensions of human completeness. At the conclusion, we plan to respond to our concern about the members of the Christian community and their use of self-help literature. We will also answer hypothesis that "the Christian counseling is a better response to the expectation of the people than that self-help culture / literature.
