Studieverkstaden och dess effekter : En studie om hur tio elever upplever sin studiesituation / The flexible resource room and its effects : A study about about ten students' study experience

Vojin, Anna-Maria, Lena, Gärdemalm January 2020 (has links)

Easy to Read Digital Equipment for Older, Visually Impaired Users with Cognitive Decline

Nielsen, Kristian Mellgaard January 2021 (has links)
This master’s thesis explores what could be the usability affordances of tactile interfaces, imbedded with physical commands, and voice interfaces, when used by older people that have visual impairments and cognitive declines. The aim is to contribute to the development of more accessible media.Through an adapted design thinking approach and qualitative methods, relevant literature, benchmarking on existing technologies, and empirical data, it has showed that the usability affordances of the two interfaces differ from each other. The presence of variousus ability affordances is found to be decided by individual perception and severity of impairments. Thus, each interface accommodates some users better than others. The outcome of the master’s thesis can be used for future developers of accessible media when exploring new interfaces that could be better suited for people with disabilities.

Intersections of Critical Systems Thinking and Community Based Participatory Research in Developing a Web Site for Autistic Adults

Raymaker, Dora Madeline 11 March 2015 (has links)
People with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum, comprise the world's largest minority and experience significant inequities in Internet use. Existing standards for accessible web sites are necessary but not sufficient without the direct engagement of end users in identifying access needs. Yet little is known about methods for effective engagement, and there are no systematically derived Web accessibility guidelines for autistic end users. Here I explore a hybrid approach to direct engagement using critical systems thinking (CST) and community based participatory research (CBPR) during the co-development of a healthcare-focused web site by the Academic Autism Spectrum Partnership in Research and Education (AASPIRE). I explore these ideas on three levels: theory, practice, and critical self-reflection. On the theory level, I examine the common philosophical and historical roots of CST and CBPR, ways in which they intersect and complement, and propose the hybrid approach exemplified by AASPIRE. On the practice level, I explore our web site development process and evaluate the accessibility, usability, and acceptability of the web site for autistic end users; from that work, comes a set of recommendations for working with people with disabilities in technology development and a set of accessibility guidelines for autistic end users. On the critical self-reflection level, I inquire into my own experiences as an insider-researcher during the web site development. I then synthesize the levels to evaluate whether or not taking a hybrid CST/CBPR approach to web development was effective, as indicated by the team's ability to function as an emancipatory learning organization (an indicator of effective systems thinking on an organizational level), and the overall usability and accessibility of the web site. The result of the synthesis suggests a hybrid CST/CBPR approach was effective. Implications of this work include innovations in CST methods for operationalizing its commitment to human emancipation, potential for drawing a more ideologically-aligned systems thinking literature into the domain of CBPR, a means for individuals wishing to create a more power-balanced learning organization, innovations around including people with disabilities in research and technology development, more accessible web sites for people on the autism spectrum, and a potential small shift of dominant discourse around autism, disability, and the value of insider-researchers over time.

An Abstraction for the Development of Accessible Web Forms

Fredriksson Eklund, Lowe January 2021 (has links)
Web forms are one of the main points of user interaction on the internet. It is important that these forms are developed to be accessible to as many people as possible. The project aims to reduce the complexity for application developers when developing accessible web forms that conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) using HTML and React. The result is a prototype library that creates an abstraction that application developers can use to build accessible web forms that conform to the WCAG.

Adapting diagrams for DAISY books

Burger, Dominique, Motti, Lilian Genaro January 2010 (has links)
Looking for the best way to publish accessible graphics, this presentation gives some information about how to deal with non-textual contents when adapting documents for DAISY books. It is based on a study conducted by Braillenet for enriching the Helene’s digital library with technical contents. By analysing publishing guidelines, transcribers’ work in specialized centres and main relief printing formats, this work presents thoughts on how to analyse a graphical content, how to produce vectorial images, the main steps for preparing digital image files that could be downloaded and printed, how to index these files into the DAISY book, and finally make them accessible.

Designing Accessible Medical Information: Understanding the Challenges and Opportunities for Blind and Visually Impaired Individuals

Borgström, Linn, Luengprakarn, Thiptida January 2023 (has links)
This thesis presents the result of a research conducted with the blind and visually impaired in scanning a QR-code and finding medical product information. Three prototypes were developed through Design Science Research Methodology and tested via a talk aloud protocol and observation. Qualitative data was gathered through a semi-structured interview for background of the participants and after each test. The participants came from the Swedish Association of the Visually Impaired in Malmö and consisted of four people. The development of the prototypes was conducted iteratively with the feedback from the tests. The first two prototypes were designed to find navigational and contrast issues and the third prototype, to correct the issues. The result was a solution that effectively met the needs and preferences of the participants as well as the insights to take the information architecture into account when developing, before the design and functionality.

Patient and Clinician Perspectives on Patient Portal Use in the Mental Health Context

Campbell, Carin 03 May 2023 (has links)
Patient portals facilitate patients' access to their electronic health care records, and may also include features such as patient-clinician messaging, prescription renewal, and educational resources. There is evidence that portals support patient empowerment, therapeutic communication, adherence to treatment, and satisfaction with care. Nonetheless, patient portals are underutilized in mental health settings, with policies in some health care organizations restricting all access to mental health records through patient portals. A qualitative evidence synthesis was conducted to explore the perspectives of clinicians and patients on portal use in the mental health care context represented in the current literature. A systematic search of relevant databases, followed by citation and article screening, yielded 24 qualitative and mixed-methods studies for inclusion, and a thematic synthesis was performed. The synthesis yielded five themes: impacts to the efficiency of mental health care delivery; effects on therapeutic relationships between clinicians and patients; changes to the patient-clinician power balance; the suitability of patient portals for patients with mental illness; and the complexities of information management in mental health care. Ultimately, both clinicians and patients acknowledged numerous potential benefits of patient portals, but there were also concerns about their use specific to the mental health context. These concerns were voiced primarily by clinicians, and originated in part from concern for patient safety, but also from stigmatizing attitudes and the perceived threats of portals to clinicians' workloads and control over the record. This systematic review of qualitative studies highlights opportunities for organizations to support their clinicians through the implementation of recovery-oriented initiatives like patient portals, and to support patients with mental illness by ending discriminatory policies limiting access to their records.
