Marqué par l’afflux des emprunts d’origine anglaise jusqu’à « La Révolution tranquille », l’état de la néologie lexicale québécoise reste aujourd’hui à découvrir. C’est dans cette optique que cette étude cherche à situer la néologie lexicale québécoise à partir d’un corpus des mots récents dont l’analyse démontre que la néologie lexicale québécoise connaît des sources d’enrichissement variées et que sa productivité est différente suivant le type, procédé de formation, origine, etc. du néologisme. Afin de mesurer l’efficacité de la néologie lexicale québécoise, elle s’intéresse également à son actualisation, c'est-à-dire, à sa reconnaissance et fréquence d’usage dans la langue à travers un sondage linguistique réalisé au Québec.Ce travail ouvre des perspectives pour une étude comparée des susdits aspects de la néologie lexicale québécoise avec le français de France. / Marked by the influx of English borrowings until “The Quiet Revolution”, the state of the lexical neologisms in Quebec French today has yet to be researched. In this context, this study seeks to classify lexical neologisms in Quebec French taken from a corpus of words which was recently analyzed and shows that Quebec lexical neologisms have varied sources of enrichment and their difference in productivity dependent on their type, formation process, origin, etc. In order to measure the effectiveness of lexical neologisms in Quebec French, this paper is also interested in its actualization that is its recognition and frequency of use in the language monitored in a linguistic survey conducted in Quebec.This work provides news perspectives and ideas for a comparative study on the aforementioned aspects of lexical neologisms in Quebec French and the French language of France.

Emotional intelligence amongst undergraduate students at a higher education institution

Magister Commercii (Industrial Psychology) - MCom(IPS) / One hundred and fifty senior students (comprising of second and third year undergraduate students) completed a biographical questionnaire and the BarOn Emotional Quotient-Inventory questionnaire. The results indicate that there are statistically significant differences in total EQ based on gender and age, although there were no statistically significant differences based on race. Conclusions are drawn about the importance of emotional intelligence in students and recommendations for future research are provided. / South Africa

L’expression figée représente une entité problématique aussi bien au niveau notionnel et phraséologique qu’au niveau traductologique. La présente étude, qui porte sur le français et sa traduction en arabe, a pour objectif de mieux définir cette entité en essayant d’en tracer les limites et d’en identifier les caractéristiques inhérentes.Ainsi, dans un premier temps, nous abordons la question de deux points de vue, sémanticosyntaxique et cognitif, tout en soumettant les axiomes de base de nos définitions à un examen approfondi pour en vérifier la pertinence. Puis, nous tentons de proposer, au vu des résultats obtenus, une définition pertinente autant que faire se peut.Nous traitons ensuite du figement sous un angle traductologique, en nous fixant comme objectif d’élaborer une méthode de traduction des expressions figées œuvrant sur les deux niveaux sémantique et stylistique, méthode qui pourrait servir de support éclaircissant les points capitaux à prendre en considération dans l’opération traduisante et tiendrait compte des inconvénients et défauts qui peuvent s’y manifester. / Fixed expressions are a problematic entity at both levels: at notional-phraseological level and at translatological level. The purpose of this study, which focuses on French and its translation into Arabic, is to delimit this entity by attempting to delimit its boundaries and to attribute to its inherent defining characteristics.Thus, at first, we approach the question from two points of view, semantico-syntactical and cognitive while subjecting the basic axioms of our definitions to an in-depth examination in order to verify its relevance.Then, we will deal with set expressions from a translatological point of view, with the aim of developing a method of translating fixed expressions working on both semantic and stylistic levels.This method could serve as a support clarifying the crucial points to be taken into consideration in the translating operation and would take into account the disadvantages and defects that can be manifested therein.

Cette thèse est composée de trois chapitres abordant des questions théoriques et empiriques concernant le financement des projets d’investissement. Dans le premier chapitre, La réputation des conseillers financiers et le coût de la dette : preuves empirique sur des prêts de financement de projets, nous formulons un modèle théorique du rôle et de l’impact des conseillers financiers sur les prêts de projets d’investissement à grande échelle. À l’aide de données détaillées sur les prêts de financement de projets (Projectware), nous testons des hypothèses concurrentes sur la valeur du conseiller financier pour les promoteurs de projets, et nous examinons les effets sur les caractéristiques de prêt de l’utilisation de conseillers communs vs individuels. Nous trouvons que les promoteurs embauchent des conseillers financiers pour augmenter leur niveau d’endettement plutôt que pour réduire l’information asymétrique entre eux et les prêteurs. Dans le deuxième chapitre, Les banques à la fois conseiller et arrangeur : coût de la dette de prêts de financement de projet, nous étudions la résolution du problème de fiabilité des conseillers financiers. Ce chapitre examine, à l’aide des données sur les prêts de financement de projets (Projectware), si la participation de conseiller financier dans le syndicat prêteur aide à résoudre leur problème de fiabilité. En utilisant les données Projectware sur le financement de projets entre 2001 et 2015, nous testons trois hypothèses concurrentes. Dans l’ensemble, nos résultats montrent que les projets impliquant des banques jouant le double rôle de conseiller financier et d’arrangeur ont des spreads de crédit plus élevés avec une maturité plus longue de la dette. Dans le troisième chapitre, Évaluation des options réelles dans un monde de Gollier/Weitzman : l’effet de l’incertitude des taux d’actualisation à long terme, nous dérivons d’abord un modèle d’options réelles de type Ingersoll-Ross sous Gollier/Weitzman. Puis, nous appliquons le modèle au cas d’un projet d’investissement dans un champ pétrolifère. Nous montrons comment la valeur de l’option réelle à long terme et le moment d’investissement optimal sont affectés, et aussi que les résultats sont cohérents avec les preuves récentes sur la prise de décision d’entreprise en cas de préférences incomplètes ou d’ambiguïté. Nous constatons que, par rapport au DDR, les modèles standards utilisant des taux d’intérêt constants ou de retour à la moyenne sous-évaluent les projets et leurs options réelles d’attente ou d’abandon. / This thesis is comprised of three Chapters addressing theoretical and empirical issues concerning the financing of capital projects. In the first Chapter, Financial advisor reputation and the cost of debt: evidence from project finance loans, we formulate a theoretical model of the role and impact of financial advisors on large-scale investment project loans, and estimate it using a detailed dataset of project finance loans (Projectware). We test competing hypotheses on the value to project sponsors of financial advisors, and we examine the effects on loan characteristics of using common vs. individual advisors. We find that sponsors hire financial advisors to increase their debt levels rather on reducing asymmetric information between them and prospective lenders. In the second Chapter, Banks as both Advisor and Arranger: cost of debt evidence from project finance loans, we study the resolution of the problem of financial advisor reliability. This chapter examines, using data on project finance loans (Projectware), whether financial advisor involvement in the lending syndicate helps to solve their reliability problem. Using Projectware data on project finance (PF loans between 2001 and 2015, we test three competing hypotheses. Overall, our findings show that projects involving banks playing the dual role of FA and MLA have higher loan spreads with longer debt maturity than those without such banks playing the dual role. In the third Chapter, Real option valuation in a Gollier/Weitzman world: the effect of long-run discount rate uncertainty, we first derive an Ingersoll-Ross-type real option model under Gollier/ Weitzman long-run discount rate uncertainty, and then apply the model to the case of an oil field investment project. We show how long-run real option value and optimal investment timing are affected, and also that the results are consistent with recent evidence on corporate decision-making under incomplete preferences or ambiguity. We find that, compared with DDR, standard models using constant or mean-reverting interest rates undervalue projects and their real options to wait or to abandon.

Stressors and coping mechanisms of family care-givers of older relatives living with long-term conditions in mainland China: A scoping review of the evidence

Yes / As the ageing population in China continues to grow, more people will be living with long-term health conditions and require support from family care-givers. This scoping review therefore aims to explore sources of stress and coping mechanisms adopted by care-givers of older relatives living with long-term conditions in mainland China. Literature searches were conducted in English (CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and SCOPUS) and Chinese (CNKI, WANFANG DATA, CQVIP and CBM) databases between October and November 2019. The searches focused on the stressors and coping mechanisms utilised by family care-givers residing in the community. Narrative synthesis was used to identify themes within the data. Forty-six papers were included: 20 papers from English and 26 from Chinese databases. Six themes captured stressors: care-giving time (N = 22), financial resources (N = 17), role and personal strains (N = 42), preparedness (N = 4), social roles (N = 10) and lack of adequate formal support (N = 22); and one theme captured coping (N = 14). Unmet needs of care-givers of older relatives in mainland China were found to be extensive. Only a few studies had attempted to explore the causal link between stressors, coping and the influence of culture. Findings underscore the significance of adequately capturing intricacies around care-givers’ unmet needs, rather than generalising on the basis of culture. Qualitative studies are critical to providing a better understanding of the relationship between stressors, coping and resources afforded to care-givers by their cultural environment. Having such understanding is crucial to inform the development of competent care, which promotes self-efficacy and self-actualisation in care-givers in mainland China. / This work was supported by Research England: Quality Related Global Challenge Research Fund (QR-GCRF).

Aussi, à l'intérieur du langage scientifique, a-t-elle réuni, dans une même perspective, l'actualisation de soi et le processus d'une démarche de pardon. Le traitement des données a permis de valider, de façon non-équivoque, la question de départ. En effet, il a été possible d'identifier des caractéristiques d'actualisation de soi (Shostrom, 1976, 1977) dans le vécu d'une démarche de pardon (Boisvert, 1994). Cette perspective ouvre un volet nouveau sur le dynamisme humain d'une démarche de pardon et sur la co-responsabilité de l'offensé et de son pasteur, en situation dyadique ou communautaire, dans leur rencontre au cœur de l'événement du pardon.

The relationship between self-actualisation and emotional intelligence

The aim of this research is to show theoretical similarities between emotional intelligence and self-actualisation. The empirical results give evidence of the relationship between these two concepts. An assessment battery consisting of the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory (BarOn EQ-i), an emotional intelligence instrument and the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI), a self-actualisation instrument was used to measure the concepts of emotional intelligence and self-actualisation. A sample of 71 employees was assessed using psychometric tests and a biographical questionnaire. The data was collected over a period of four months. The statistical methods used in this research focus on quantitative measurement. Calculations are mainly done with t-tests and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient. The empirical results of this research give partial evidence of the correlation between emotional intelligence and self-actualisation. Two literature studies were done. The first literature study dealt with the existing theories on self actualisation. After this study a list was drawn up that consisted of the characteristics of the actualiser. The second literature study dealt with the Seven Dimensions of Intelligence, as described by Edu-K. A connection was drawn between the characteristics of the actualiser and the Seven Dimensions. A clear connection was drawn theoretically between the characteristics of the actualiser and the seven dimensions. The empirical study also shows an improvement in the academical performance as well as the characteristics of the actualiser. / Die doel van hierdie studie is om te bepaal watter bydrae Edu-Kinesiologie (Edu-K) kan lewer tot die bereiking van selfaktualisering, veral op akademiese gebied Vir die verkenning is twee literatuurstudies gedoen. Die eerste literatuurstudie het gehandel oor die teoriee wat bestaan oor selfaktualisering. Na hierdie studie is 'n vraelys oor eienskappe wat kenmerkend van selfaktualiseerders is, saamgestel. Conversely, children experiencing emotional upsets cannot achieve scholastically. The exact nature of the relationship is difficult to elucidate. Most aid programmes deal with one aspect of the problem, placing little or no emphasis on the child in totality. This study focuses on the learning disabled child as a whole from a relation theory perspective. The aim is to ascertain how the child's difficulties affect his relation structures. Once the interaction between the relation structures had been established a programme was devised to assist the child emotionally and scholastically. Play therapy has proved one of the most successful methods of child psychotherapy. This study attempts to incorporate the essential elements of play therapy into a remedial programme. It was found that the children benefitted from both components of the programme and that it had a positive influence on their relation structures / Kinders met leerprobleme toon dikwels ook emosionele probleme. An educational-psychological perspective of the personal attributes which serve to anchor resilience

This study focuses on the concept of resilience, and seeks to determine the nature, and role, of personal attributes in adolescents' ability to bounce back from life's blows, and continue determinedly along the path of self-actualisation. The personal attributes impacting on the ability to surmount life's challenges are delineated by an empirical study focussing on twenty learning-disabled adolescents, half of whom demonstrate resilience, and half of whom appear to have turned their backs on self-actualisation. The study aims to provide educational psychologists with an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon of resilience, so that vulnerable youngsters might ultimately be therapeutically assisted to choose a more resilient attitude and behaviour. The results of the study delineate nine definite personal attributes which anchor resilience and promote self-actualisation, despite obstacle-ridden circumstances. Furthermore, results suggest that personal choice underlies resilience, implying that intervention targeted at inculcating resilience may well be a worthwhile exercise. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed.(Guidance and Counselling)
