Doing theology in the post liberation era of Southern AfricaMorekwa, Othusitse 02 1900 (has links)
The Study of Theology plays a crucial role in the construction of a sound theology in this post liberation era of Southern Africa. This exercise is conformed to the academic learning and creates an environment where theology can dialogue with other disciplines. It helps in the critical reflection on the issue of God and human beings as the object of theology in African context.
The study of theology and the doing of theology are methods which bring praxis and theory together. The doing of theology is the daily work of a pastor in a congregation. It is an exercise that put theological theories into practice. This is a methodology that guides the process of developing a contextual theology in Southern Africa. It is a process of taking theology from classroom to the congregations the community. The study of theology and the doing theology are soul mates. They work hand in hand to address contemporary situations. Human beings should know their physical organic environment. They are the object of theology. People experience God from natural science. Liberation theologies e.g. Africanist, Black and Women/Feminist theologies should use new approaches in order to meet the post liberation error challenges.
The wholesome approach is another alternative to be used by these theologies. The approach is based on the interconnectedness of God, human beings and physical organic universe (Theanthropocosmic principle). The principle of Theanthropocosmic helps to direct theology in Southern Africa to be contextual and universal. Some new contextual theologies are born because of the theanthropocosmic approaches to modern challenges. The modern society is build under principles of democracy, good governance, peace and tranquility. The major role of theology is to ensure that the society enjoys those principles.
Theology is directed to a group and individuals. The social, political and economical challenges should be approached as a group. The wholesome approach is an appropriate method to address challenges imposed by globalization ideologies. The increase rate of poverty in Southern Africa brings up other social illness in communities e.g. corruptions, crime, diseases. There is a need to engage theology in economic globalization. The concept of Botho calls everyone in the community to participate in the fight against these social illnesses in the society. Theology is obliged to restore economic justice. The Church is encouraged to participate in the cultural liberation and renewal. She is compelled to do mission work in this paradigms of cultural changes. Guidelines for the utilisation of Mmaskitlane in play therapy by educational psychologistsModikwe, Rebecca Salang 02 1900 (has links)
This study is an investigation into the effective utilisation of Mmaskitlane, a psychotherapeutic African indigenous narrative play technique. The investigation was carried out with six primary school learners in the Tshwane North District of Education in Gauteng Province. The learners were referred for emotional problems and the play was used to enhance emotional healing. The technique was used in both its forms, namely, one which involves learners hitting one stone with another as they narrate their stories, and the other where learners draw symbols representing the characters in their stories.
In order to render culturally appropriate services, therapy was carried out in the clients’ mother tongue which was mainly seTswana.
The investigation adopted a constructivist interpretivist paradigm, involving the use of a qualitative research design that made use of multiple case studies. Because the research question explored a relatively new research area and there was the possibility of new literature coming up during the process of the study, case studies allowed for a certain flexibility. Qualitative analysis showed how Mmaskitlane helped participants to express global children’s beliefs, such as blaming themselves for dysfunctions occurring in their families and feeling guilty as a result. Through thematic analysis the clients were able to process and express their negative emotions and as a result catharsis was enhanced.
The main focus of the study was on how Mmaskitlane could be best utilised in play therapy to achieve the above-mentioned effects. Ultimately, the findings were twofold, namely, that therapists could either be actively involved as participant players of the game during therapy, or secondly, that those who would rather not play along with the clients could be actively involved as participant observers, engaging only in the question and answer stage of the game. This investigation enabled me to effectively document guidelines for ways in which therapists can use Mmaskitlane effectively in play therapy. / Psychology of Education / D. Ed. The management of knowledge : a model for the African RenaissanceVelthuizen, Andreas Gerhardus 06 1900 (has links)
The study goes beyond knowledge existing in the literature study of the philosophy and
theory of knowledge, knowledge management, African knowledge and the management of
knowledge by African institutions, including the peace and security architecture of Africa, to
reveal a coherent conceptual framework and themes to guide the field research. During the
field studies of specific cases in the Great Lakes region of Africa, principles and practices
emerged that formed a framework for a constructed Trans-dimensional Knowledge
Management Model (TDKM-M) to develop a theoretical model for the management of
knowledge for conflict resolution as the first step towards the revival of Africa. The study
proposes practical solutions for the management of knowledge that would empower decisionmakers
to intervene successfully in conflict situations. Furthermore, the study serves to
expand the knowledge base in the field of trans-disciplinary African studies, transcending the
boundary between political science and epistemology to navigate the middle ground between
disciplines and the space that lies beyond all disciplines and dichotomised thinking towards a
new holistic understanding. A systems approach using MIT (multi-disciplinarity, interdisciplinarity
and trans-disciplinarity) and qualitative research methodology on a transnational
level was followed. The study consists of a literature study and a field study
consisting of a pilot study, semi-structured interviews and participation in communities of
practice to access the worldviews of diverse cultures. An observable knowledge dimension,
consisting of a normative foundation, empirical knowledge domain and analytical knowledge
domain, is identified. Furthermore, a tacit metaphysical knowledge dimension is identified
that is informed by the observable dimension. The two dimensions transacts with each other
to attain a higher level of trans-dimensional knowledge. The TDKM-M proposes principles
and practices of how trans-dimensional knowledge, including indigenous African knowledge
and external knowledge, can be managed in a collective middle ground to produce holistic
understanding. This higher level of understanding can activate intervention into the causes
and consequences of conflict. Innovation of African society could follow, achieving desired
outcomes such as peace, justice, human rights, self-empowerment and innovation towards
transformative growth, competitiveness and negotiate equilibrium with the global

The main objective of this mini–dissertation is to investigate the basic form and
content of moral education as it manifests itself in the mamtiseni and nkciyo
female initiation rituals of the Mount Frere region of the Eastern Cape Province of
the Republic of South Africa. The main theoretical position taken is the reemergent
African Renaissance coupled with African indigenous knowledge
systems, first revived by (former) President Thabo Mbeki. Accordingly the main
purpose of this study is to address the transmission of moral aspects of female
Bhaca initiation inherent in behavioural/cultural educational enculturation.
The main findings of the mini–dissertation constitute the following:

young Bhaca girls.
2. The song texts carry strong messages of how to go about achieving a
