Vega Martinez, Santiago January 2006 (has links)
The purpose of my essay is on one hand to research and evaluate the measures that one intermediate school in Sweden, uses in order to prevent bullying and stop it in the event that one pupil happens to get bullied or harassed. In other words, I would like to show how that school is capable of creating a safe environment. Qualitative research is used to obtain these findings. On the other hand, I also wish to examine what pupils at the school think about these measures and how they perceive the attitudes of the school’s teachers and management regarding the prevention of bullying. In order to acquire this information quantitative research is used. The conclusions that I draw after conducting my research are as follows: 1- Regarding the “Anti – bullying Performance Plan”, my essay shows that school teachers and management actively work in order to maintain a safe environment and as a result bullying is successfully prevented the school. However, I also highlight some aspects of the school’s plan that should be altered in other to make it more understandable to pupils. 2- The majority of the pupils surveyed feel secure at the school and also think that teachers and school management do a good job in preventing bullying. This despite the fact that few pupils know about the existence of the aforementioned plan. I therefore point out how important it is that the school’s teachers work to make pupils aware of the plan’s existence and the rights that the plan gives them.

Mobbning : en undersökning om antimobbningsarbete

Fast, Alexandra January 2012 (has links)

: – En kvalitativ studie om status och rangordning i skolan / Who is the popular one? : A qualitative study of how school health staff percieve grouping and status mechanisms amongst children.

Hagström, Emelie, Saltin, Camilla January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to study how school health staff perceives grouping and status mechanisms amongst children. It also aims to get an understanding of how the school handles exclusion and bullying. We are also interested in the work with how the school works with values stated in the curriculum for Swedish schools. Qualitative interviews were conducted with employees of the school health staff. The results show that the staff has a good understanding of status among children, it also shows that children’s construction of status is complex. Two types of popularity were revealed, one negative form of popularity that is characterized by an attitude of toughness and manipulative behaviour. The positive popularity, on the other hand, is characterized by kindness and a willingness to be helpful. Popular children have a good social capability and unpopular children show a lack thereof. The groupings among children shows patterns, this essays focus on sex differences and roles of leadership. Negative consequences that derive from the construction of status among children are for example abusive behaviour and bullying. A difference between the sexes is that bullying among girls is less visible than among boys. The school deals with exclusion and bullying through a preventive work with the values stated in the curriculum for Swedish schools, the children are educated in everyone’s equal value. We found that the schools that actively work with these values tend to have a better atmosphere. We perceive an underlying perception that it is in violation with the norm to not be a part of a group and that children who are alone should be discontented with their exclusion.

Arbetet inom skolan för att förebygga mobbning / Work in schools to prevent bullying

Port, Mona January 2011 (has links)
My purpose in this work was to find out how staff in a middle sized school uses its local Equal treatment plan in its work against bullying. But also to see how the use of a standardized anti-bullying program works to prevent bullying.   I have interviewed the principal, teachers, and what we in Sweden call a ”fritidspedagog” and the members of the anti-bullying team to get answers to my questions.    The conclusion of this study is that the school follow and work according to what the Equal treatment plan states, both in terms of prevention, as in working with actual bullying cases. The school has also followed the National School Agency's recommendations on what should be the local Equality plan, but also to follow up and revise it each year.   The interview shows that the staff at the school placed great emphasis on talking and discussing with students about how to behave towards each other, they also brought up things that happened at one time and talked about this. The staffs were very committed to work towards the prevention of bullying and the same was true with the school's headmaster. The Anti-bullying team followed ready templates when bullying cases occurred. This is seen as an great advantage because many of the school staff have to work in team, so where there is a small school with few staff.

An examination of the efficacy of Peer Support Australia’s anti-bullying module for primary schools’.

Chadwick, Sharlene, chadwick@comcen.com.au January 2008 (has links)
Abstract This pilot study examined the efficacy of Peer Support Australia’s anti-bullying module for primary schools’. A quantitative questionnaire was used to survey 77 students from two primary schools (mean age 10.1 years) in the greater Sydney, Australia area. One school implemented the anti-bullying intervention module, Speaking Up, (intervention school) the other school did not (non-intervention school). Students completed a survey containing questions relating to bullying behaviours in their school. This questionnaire was developed from Peer Relations Assessment Questionnaire Students (PRAQ) devised by Rigby and Slee (1993). This study has provided further evidence to suggest intervention programs are effective in reducing bullying behaviours. It has quantified the assumptions made regarding the efficacy of Speaking Up as a module which reduces bullying behaviours which was the principal purpose of this study. The current study into the anti-bullying intervention module, Speaking Up, provided further evidence for the following: • students developed friendships across the year groups; • students were more inclusive of others; • students developed the skills to support target students; and • students developed the skills to report bullying behaviours. The anti-bullying intervention module, Speaking Up, was shown to: • reduce the incidence of bullying behaviours; • change attitudes towards bullying behaviours in the culture of the school; • provide greater awareness of the different types of bullying behaviours; • provide support for the longer term benefits of the intervention program. Peer Support Australia’s primary schools anti-bullying module, Speaking Up, is an effective intervention strategy supporting students to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to make a positive contribution to the creation and maintenance of a safe school environment by reducing bullying behaviours. The findings of the current study make a contribution to research already undertaken in this area.

Exploring the subjective experiences of educator-targeted bullying (ETB) in secondary schools

Booysen, Eugene January 2020 (has links)
Magister Psychologiae - MPsych / The majority of research on bullying focuses on learner-to-learner bullying, and educators are rarely identified or viewed as victims of bullying. This area of research is largely neglected, despite its serious negative outcomes such as burnout, deterioration in the educator–learner relationship and disintegrated of the educator and learning culture.

Fritidshemslärarens förebyggande arbete mot mobbning : En empirisk undersökning kring skolors arbete mot mobbning / The after-school center teacher`s preventive work against bullying : An empirical study of school`s work against bullying

Mia, Issa, Ilitalipar, Abitov January 2021 (has links)
Many times, it happens that the students are not visible enough to after-school teachers, this is when abusive acts are performed by other students. The physical, mental, and hidden bullying goes unnoticed, and it not only affects the victim, but it affects the whole society. The purpose of this study is to investigate how after-school center teachers work to prevent bullying and abuse in their activities. We compare two different schools' prevention work against abuse and bullying, one with an equal treatment plan against bullying and abusive treatment and the other with an Olweus anti-bullying program. We want to investigate to what extent and in what way this affects the after-school teachers' work towards bullying and abusive action that exists in each school. a broader perspective for the study. The results and the discussion show, among other things, that the after-school teacher ‘s commitment, presence and participation can be decisive in the preventive purpose against bullying.

Combating bullying in schools : a South African legal perspective

Laas, Annelie 28 May 2013 (has links)
This study holistically examines the status quo of learner-on-learner bullying in South African schools. An exposition is given pertaining to inter alia constitutional law, common law, statutory provisions and case law. Since bullying is a global problem, a legal comparative study is necessary in order to place the phenomenon of bullying into context. Concepts such as bystander behaviour, bullycide and restorative justice feature prominently in this dissertation. Important findings include the necessity of drafting of anti-bullying legislation as well as the inception of bullycide as a statutory crime. Furthermore, restorative justice processes are critically important to not only rehabilitate and reintegrate the bully, but also to vindicate the victim in a way that protects and promotes the rights of all parties involved. Recommendations are made with regard to the importance of a national anti-bullying policy to be implemented in conjunction with existing codes of conduct. / Dissertation (LLM)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Private Law / unrestricted

Staff Member Perceptions of Bullying in an Afterschool Center

Thegg, Sherrich Monsher 01 January 2017 (has links)
Peer-to-peer bullying negatively impacts over 20% of school-aged children annually. While much literature exists on bullying on school premises, peer-to-peer bullying outside of the classroom is still relatively understudied. Despite states' implementation of antibullying legislation, peer-to-peer bullying has continued in schools and other areas such as afterschool centers. The purpose of this qualitative study was to evaluate staff perceptions of peer-to-peer bullying in afterschool centers. It specifically investigated bullying and the hierarchical imbalance of power using Sidanius and Pratto's social dominance theory. The research questions were designed to investigate the staff members' knowledge of bullying at the Boys and Girls Club. A phenomenological approach was used and data were collected through one-on-one interviews of 11 Boys and Girls Club staff members. Data from the interviews were deductively coded and subjected to thematic analysis. Findings indicate that staff members do not have a uniform understanding of bullying behaviors, nor did they have a clear guidance on practices to minimize bullying which leads to continued peer-to-peer bullying at the Boys and Girls Club. Staff also reported that they have been offered little training on dealing with bullying behavior, nor are there clear policies in place to combat bullying behavior from participants in the afterschool program. Positive social change may be achieved by the implementation of recommendations to the Boys and Girls Club including mandatory antibullying training for staff and the creation and implementation of a comprehensive antibullying policy.
