By a reading comprehension activity, it is possible to verify what they understand from the reading and how they use their inferences as reading strategy. 75 young apprentices took part in the research, and three tools were employed for the data collection: a questionnaire, two texts, each one with ten questions and multiple-choice answers, and eight sentences with questions that required inferential reasoning. In the analysis, a qualitative data evaluation was fulfilled, which allowed to verify a low level of young people's interest in reading, as well as to ascertain that many of them present comprehension difficulties and use less inferences in the text comprehension activities. Beyond this, it is possible to identify a low level of reading comprehension, mainly in respect of the inferring ability. Thus, the results suggest the necessity and the importance of schools to offer bigger reading development opportunities, ensuring as the alphabetic system proficiency as the inferential reasoning development, especially in high school / Nessa pesquisa, utilizamos uma abordagem cognitiva objetivando verificar o perfil, quanto à atividade de leitura, de um grupo de jovens aprendizes trabalhadores, os quais apresentam um preocupante déficit de compreensão em leitura e raciocínio inferencial.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Ana Paula Silva Tozzo.pdf: 914325 bytes, checksum: 6322dec5813ae4b71552831ed9d7aec6 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-12-15 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Introduction: reading aloud by the teacher of early childhood education in the process of formation of the reading child is important and this is emphasized in the oral expressiveness. Objective: to investigate the judgment of children regarding the use of oral expressiveness parameters in reading aloud, at the moments before and after speech-language intervention. Method: this research was carried out in two stages. In the first one, two teachers participated in a workshop that worked with the resources of expressivity oral, in situation of reading aloud. Before and after this intervention, audiograved material was collected in which the teachers read a story. Oral expression parameters were studied in loud reading, such as pause, articulation, resonance, pitch and intensity, as well as questions related to breathing, with a focus on pneumono - articular coordination. In the second stage, this material was presented individually and randomly to 54 children between 5 and 6 years of age regularly enrolled in Pre-II in Early Childhood Education to verify if they perceived a difference in pre- and post-intervention recordings and by which they chose. Those who chose post-intervention were grouped into small groups to justify their choices. The data collected in the first stage were analyzed by the children in the light of a perceptive auditory evaluation. Result: the teachers reported improvement after the intervention with special attention in increasing the time and in the use of the expressive elements. There was a statistically significant association between the hearing condition. In the justifications of the children there was an association of sense and sometimes of sound from their listening. When the occurrences were quantified, it was verified that the expressive effects adopted by the teachers were associated more with the sense of voice (39) than with sound (27). Conclusion: the children, when judging the excerpts from reading aloud, before and after the speech therapy intervention with two teachers, were able to perceive differences in oral expressiveness emphasized more by expressions related to sense / Introdução: a leitura em voz alta realizada pelo professor de educação infantil no processo de formação da criança leitora é importante e essa se dá com ênfase na expressividade oral.

Oprah and Her Book Club: More than Mass Media Money-Maker

Jones, Carrie S. Lilly 05 1900 (has links)
With her Book Club, talk show host Oprah Winfrey has used the relatively new technology of television to revive literature. Despite the odds against her--selecting hard-to-read, quirky books by generally unknown authors--Winfrey has successfully created women's spaces for the 1990s, not so different from the American women's social clubs from the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the French salons of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This study will show how Oprah's Book Club allows readers, especially women, to use the psychological processes of transference and transactional reading by using fictional literature from the Book Club to discuss sensitive areas of their lives.

Barnlitteratur och högläsning i förskola och hem

Gutå, Åsa, Jägbeck, Frida January 2007 (has links)

Adolescent Female Identity Development and Its Portrayal in Select Contemporary Young Adult Fiction

E. Reavis 2004 November 1900 (has links)
This study describes a content analysis of six contemporary young adult fiction novels. Adolescence is a time of great change, particularly for girls. It is during this time that female adolescents develop their voice and identity. As literature reflects the reader’s world, it also affects in part how female adolescents perceive their identity. Latent content analysis was used to code eight variables to determine if select contemporary young adult fiction novels appropriately describe the development of identity among adolescent females. All of the novels included in the study provided sufficient evidence of accurate portrayal of female adolescent identity development, by having examples of at least four out of eight variables, with most having examples of seven out of eight variables.

Läsning i omedelbarhetens tidsålder.

Flood, Daniel January 2012 (has links)
This two years master’s thesis in Library and Information Science examines book reviews and articles aboutbooks and authorship in media directed to children between the ages of 8 and 14. The aim is to increase knowledgeof children’s reading choices and view of reading. This is motivated by the decrease in literacy and sparetime reading among Swedish children and adolescents. The thesis’ methodology is based upon critical discourseanalysis developed by Norman Fairclough, and as complement to his theory John Tomlinsons sociologicaltheory of the condition of immediacy is used. Book reviews and articles from the Swedish magazine ”Kamratposten”were chosen to be the material for this study. The analyses revealed four different discourses about what constituted reading: a discourse of fiction, a discourseof speed, a discourse of excitement, and a discourse of originality. These were then discussed in the contextof social practice, drawing upon Tomlinsons theory of immediacy and several articles about children’s andadolescent’s relationships to new electronic medias. The major conclusion of the thesis’ study is that althoughthe reading habits among children and adolescents are changing, this do not need to be the cause of a nonreadingattitude but a result of a change in the way kids read and process information, caused by the emergenceof electronic media.

Information literacy among Form Five students at the four government senior secondary schools in Gaborone, Botswana.

Isaac, Goitsemang Gladness Boitumelo Wadikonyana. January 2002 (has links)
The study investigated the information literacy skills among Form Five students at government senior secondary schools in Gaborone, Botswana. The results of the study will be used in the improvement of the Information Literacy Course offered at the University of Botswana Library (UBL). Background information was given on education in Botswana and also a brief history of the evolution of the University of Botswana, an overview of the University of Botswana Library and highlights of the schools in the study. The researcher designed a questionnaire in order to achieve the objectives of this study. A sample of 240 Form Five students was drawn from four senior secondary schools situated in Gaborone, Botswana. Purposive sampling was used to draw the sample. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was employed in the analysis of data. The results were presented in frequency tables, analyzed and discussed. The findings of the study revealed that the students at senior secondary schools did not have sufficient competence in translating information problems into information needs. Their ability to use a variety of sources was not well developed. The study further revealed that the students were not motivated to look for information sources by their teacher by, for example, giving them assignments that required them to use the library resources. Students' skills in the evaluation of the accuracy, currency and authority of information sources were found to be under-developed. The study showed that the students were not given any form of user education at any of the schools. The study also found that staffing problems in senior secondary school libraries contributed to the lack of information literacy of the students. The situation was more obvious in cases where there was no full-time librarian to run the library. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations and suggestions for further studies were made. / Thesis (M.I.S)-University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2002.

The print artifact in the age of the digital : the writings of Mark Z. Danielewski and Steve Tomasula

Aardse, Kent Alexander, University of Lethbridge. Faculty of Arts and Science January 2011 (has links)
The primacy of the print novel as the main mode for knowledge dissemination and communication is being challenged today by the vast influx and pervasiveness of digital media. Print literature, then, is at potential risk for obsolescence, as digital technology creates new modes of narrative distribution. The novel, therefore, is in the midst of a metamorphosis, having to adapt in order to properly situate itself within the new media ecology. Somewhat paradoxically, the same digital technology that challenges print literature’s primacy is responsible for the novel’s adaption. The changing face of the page creates new novels that reflect the digital in print, through changes in typography, layout, and design. These changes illuminate the need for a material-specific methodology in literary theory, and brings about the death of postmodernism in the new, digital environment. iv / vi, 91 leaves ; 29 cm
