Chirurgijos ir terapijos skyrių slaugytojų patiriamų stresogeninių įvykių ir profesinio perdegimo sąsajos / The Relations between Stressogenic Events and Professional Burnout Experienced by the Nurses at Surgery and Therapy Departments

Tyrimo tikslas – nustatyti chirurgijos ir terapijos skyrių slaugytojų patiriamų stresogeninių įvykių ir profesinio perdegimo sąsajas. Tyrimo uždaviniai: 1. Nustatyti ir palyginti chirurgijos ir terapijos skyrių slaugytojų profesinį perdegimą, atsižvelgiant į sociodemografinius duomenis. 2. Nustatyti ir palyginti chirurgijos ir terapijos skyrių slaugytojų profesinį perdegimą, atsižvelgiant į darbe patiriamų stresogeninių įvykių pobūdį. 3. Nustatyti ir palyginti chirurgijos ir terapijos skyrių slaugytojų profesinį perdegimą, atsižvelgiant į asmeniniame gyvenime patiriamų stresogeninių įvykių pobūdį. Tyrimo metodika: tyrimas buvo atliktas VšĮ Kauno klinikinės ligoninės ir Respublikinės Kauno ligoninės chirurgijos ir terapijos skyriuose 2013 metų gruodžio mėn. Tyrimui naudotą anketą sudarė sociodemografinis klausimynas, stresogeninių įvykių klausimynas (sudarytas darbo autorės su bendraautorėmis M. Antanaitiene ir A. Rapulskyte), stresogeninių įvykių asmeniniame gyvenime klausimynas, PP („profesinio perdegimo“) klausimynas, (adaptuotas medicinos darbuotojams, paruoštas N. Vodopjanovos). Rezultatai: Tyrime dalyvavo 198 slaugytojos, iš kurių 92 dirba chirurginiuose skyriuose, o 106 – terapiniuose skyriuose. Chirurginių ir terapinių skyrių darbuotojų emocinio išsekimo, depersonalizacijos bei asmeninių pasiekimų nuvertinimo subskalių vidurkiai yra vienodi, tačiau skiriasi šių skyrių slaugytojų emocinio išsekimo subskalės balai. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The research identified its aim to determine the relations between stressogenic events and professional burnout experienced by the nurses at Surgery and Therapy departments. The following tasks were raised: 1. To ascertain and compare nurses’ professional burnout at the departments of Surgery and Therapy by socio-demographic indexes. 2. To identify and compare nurses’ professional burnout at the departments of Surgery and Therapy by the nature of stressogenic events. 3. To determine and compare nurses’ professional burnout at the departments of Surgery and Therapy by the nature of stressogenic events experienced in personal lives. Research methodology: the study was conducted in December, 2013, at the departments of Surgery and Therapy, Kaunas Clinical Hospital and Republican Hospital of Kaunas. The research used socio-demographic questionnaire and the questionnaire of stressogenic events at work (prepared by the author and coauthors – M. Antanaitienė and A. Rapulskytė), as well as the questionnaire of stressogenic events in personal life and Professional Burnout questionnaire (adapted for medical employees and prepared by N. Vodopjanova). Prevence syndromu vyhoření u terénních sociálních pracovníků v Českých Budějovicích. / Prevention of burnout syndrome among social field workers in České Budějovice

This thesis topic is preventing burnout among social workers in Ceske Budejovice. Currently, the burnout syndrome is struck by the large number of field social workers due to demand of social work and solving difficult situations with clients frequently. I have chosen this topic because it is very big problem nowadays. I also wanted to find out whether social field workers from the Czech Budejovice suffer from this phenomenon, and if so, whether they know the prevention. The work consists of practical and theoretical part. The theoretical part involves six main chapters. The first chapter describes the concept of burnout syndrome, which includes acute and chronic syndrome. The second chapter includes symptoms of burnout syndrome, where I describe physical, emotional, mental exhaustion and stress. The third chapter deals with the stages of burnout, which I describe more in detail. The fourth chapter focuses on risk groups of people that are the most often affected by burnout syndrome. In this chapter I characterize the concept of personality and describe the symptoms of burnout within the personality. In the fifth chapter I mention preventing burnout syndrome, furthermore there I describe the basic methods and prevention techniques, which include social networking, preventive measures by the employee as well as by the employer and last but not the least I mention supervision in that chapter. The last, sixth chapter, deals with the field social work in the context of the law on social services, basic principles, methods and procedures of social work are described. I focus on the differences between the field social work and provided social services. In the practical part two goals are set. First one is to determine whether burnout syndrome occurs among field social workers in Ceske Budejovice. The second one is what methods and prevention techniques are used by social workers in Ceske Budejovice in order to prevent burnout syndrome. Based on the objectives set, I chose two research questions. These research questions deal with burnout of social workers in the Ceske Budejovice and furthermore the most common methods and techniques for the prevention of Social Workers in the Czech Budejovice the symptoms of burnout used. In order to realize the practical part I used qualitative research methodology. Data were obtained using a semi-structured interview. The sample consisted of 7 social workers from Ceske Budejovice. I used the technique of purposive sampling research sample. The survey results showed that 4 field workers out of 7 have been experiencing symptoms of burnout syndrome. The most common methods and techniques to prevent burnout of field social workers are devoting their hobbies, social support from family, friends, colleagues, heads of organizations or supervisor. Furthermore, to separate work life from personal life and to set firm boundaries of work, adequate rest and of course supervision. My thesis could be benefit to the general public. Could be beneficial for both social workers, who have been experiencing symptoms of burnout syndrome and want to learn more, as well as for social workers who have met with burnout and want to know the possible methods and techniques in order to prevent burnout syndrome.

Zátěžové situace a ošetřovatelský personál / Stress situations and nursing personnel

This thesis deals with the stressful situations in the profession of the nursing staff. The occupation of the nurse belongs to the most demanding ones. In this occupation, the nurse is permanently affected by many stressors of different types. She faces death, the suffering, dying and incurably ill people very often. She is there in times of pain, agony and suffering. Personal encounters with these difficult situations require highly professional approach but most of all, they present immense work stress for the nurse. The theory section describes mainly the stressful situations that are the most common and most difficult in the work of the nursing staff. The next part of the theory section describes possible consequences of the stressful situations and methods of managing them including the support by the management. This thesis has two objectives. The first objective was to map the manners used by the nursing personnel to cope with the stressful situations brought by their profession. The second objective was to find out the difference in the coping with the stressful situations between the hospital staff and hospice staff. The research section of this thesis contains the quantitative research done using the technique of an anonymous questionnaire with 20 question prepared by ourselves. The questionnaire was distributed to the nursing staff of all categories in the hospital and hospice care. It was completed by 269 respondents in total. The data was statistically processed using systems Microsoft Excel 2010 and Software R, version 3.0.2 (Chi-squared test, Fisher´s exact test, and Wilcoxon test). We determined four hypotheses. H1: Manners of coping with the stressful situations depend on the qualification of the nursing staff reached; not confirmed. H2: Manners of coping with the stressful situations are influenced by the length of practice of the staff; not confirmed. H3: Manners of coping with the stressful situations differ between the hospital staff and hospice staff; confirmed. H4: The nursing staff views their own mental hygiene as more efficient than the support from the management concerning the coping with the stressful situations; confirmed. The research results show that the nursing staff faces the stressful situations very often. They see as the heaviest stress the care of the suffering and aggressive patient, conflicts with the patient´s family, conflicts at work and workload. The manners of coping with the work burden which proved as the best for them are relax, rest and sleep. There were no differences proved in the manners of coping with the stress among respective members of the nursing team. Nevertheless, the coping with the work burden of the nursing staff in the hospital and hospice care is different. A minimum of the respondents notices any support during the stressful situations from the employer. On the other hand, certain support by the management could be viewed in the form of trainings, supervision or contribution to a "recovery" which are granted to the respondents from the employer according to their answers. However, the respondents would prefer, as the support by the management, the increase in pay or more days off. The respondents view as insufficient the preparation of the graduates for the future stressful situations in their profession, as well. They would recommend mainly various trainings dealing with the stress and its management. A good solution to alleviate the work burden of the nursing staff and quality enhancement of the services provided could be investments into better work conditions, both in terms of sufficient human and material resources and the very organization of the work processes.

Postoj odborníků v algesiologii k problematice burnout syndromu / The Attitude of Experts in Pain Management on the Issue of Burnout Syndroma

The interest in the burnout syndrome issue has been increasing in recent years, particularly in the context of increasing psychosocial and work related stress in the sector of health and social services. The care of patients with chronic pain requires specific approach from the professional, psychological and ethical points of view from pain therapists. Unless a doctor is able to tolerate work related stress or to use mitigating strategies, the burnout syndrome threat occurs. The aim of the present thesis was to find out what the subjective approach to the burnout syndrome issue is among selected algiatry experts including its prevention. Qualitative research was conducted from January to February 2012 in the form of semi structured interview. The research sample consisted of respondents from 10 workplaces involved in chronic pain therapy (5 private, 5 in hospitals). The data were complemented with quantitative questionnaire research (Burnout Syndrome Symptom Inventory ? ?BSSI?) conducted from November 2011 to January 2012 to obtain a deeper insight into the content analyses of the semi structured interviews. The quantitative research sample consisted of 47 doctors from pain management workplaces from the whole Czech Republic. The demographic data were processed by means of basic descriptive statistics. Qualitative interviews were transcribed to text form and consequently analyzed. Score points of the monitored levels of the ?BSSI? questionnaire were then calculated and differences between pair variables (gender, age category, type of practice) tested. The mixed research showed statistically higher rate (p < 0.05) of tendency to burnout syndrome in pain therapists working at hospitals compared to their colleagues from private facilities. No significant differences were found in terms of age, sex, number of children in a family and number of treated patients. The most frequent symptoms of the syndrome in the respondents were irritation, lack of empathy, tiredness or loss of work enthusiasm. The most frequent protective factors are humour, breaks, discussion with colleagues, sport activities, hobbies or spending free time with families.

A síndrome de burnout e suas representações entre profissionais de saúde de um hospital geral / Burnout syndrome and its geral representations among health professionals from a general hospital

A tese tem como objetivo geral analisar a ocorrência da síndrome de burnout e suas representações sociais entre profissionais de saúde de um hospital público universitário do Rio de Janeiro. Caracteriza-se como um estudo quanti-qualitativo, descritivo, transversal, a partir de uma amostra intencional, totalizando 101 participantes. Os instrumentos de coleta de dados foram um questionário contendo a técnica de evocações livres, a escala de caracterização do burnout (ECB) e um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturada. A análise de dados se deu por meio do uso do software EVOC 2005 e da construção do quadro de quatro casas para as evocações livres; o software SPSS 20 e análises estatísticas descritivas e inferenciais para a ECB; e a análise de conteúdo temático categorial para as entrevistas semidiretivas. Os resultados apontam que os profissionais de saúde possuem uma representação social da síndrome de burnout alicerçada em duas dimensões, uma física e outra psicológica; observa-se a prevalência de conteúdos predominantemente negativos nessa representação, sobretudo, em relação ao contexto de trabalho no hospital. Também mostram a existência da representação social da síndrome de burnout estruturada a partir dos termos estresse e cansaço que fazem parte do provável núcleo central dessa representação. Observou-se que há ocorrência da síndrome de burnout entre enfermeiros e médicos do campo cirúrgico do hospital e que tal ocorrência apresenta relação com as variáveis psicossociais e sóciodemográficas. Releva-se a importância dessas variáveis, assinalando o seu papel regulador na ocorrência e desenvolvimento da síndrome. Conclui-se destacando as condições de trabalho para a construção das representações nas profissões de saúde e para a determinação da síndrome de burnout, sobretudo no campo cirúrgico. Os resultados poderão contribuir para a compreensão do campo teórico da síndrome de burnout, especialmente, no que se refere à sua determinação e ao seu desenvolvimento, lançando luz para o seu diagnóstico e sua prevenção / The doctoral thesis aims to analyze the occurrence of burnout syndrome and its social representations among health professionals in a public university hospital in Rio de Janeiro. It is characterized as quantitative-qualitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study, departing from a intentional sample, in a total of 101 individuals. The data collection instruments were a questionnaire using free evocation of words technique, the burnout characterization scale (ECB) and the semi-structured interview guide. The data analysis occurred through the EVOC 2005 software and the construction of the four-digit chart for free evocations of words. The SPSS 20 software, and descriptive and inferential statistical analyzes to ECB; and theme/category-based content analysis to semi-structured interview. The results indicate that health professionals have a rooted social representation of burnout syndrome in two dimensions, one physical and other psychological; the prevalence of predominantly negative contents in this representation, was observed especially in relation to the hospital work context. They also point to the existence of social representation of burnout syndrome structured from the terms stress and fatigue that are part of the likely central nucleus of this representation. It was observed that there is occurrence of burnout among nurses and doctors of the hospital's surgical body and that such an occurrence is correlated with the psychosocial and sociodemographic variable. It emphasizes the importance these variables, pointing out its regulatory role in the occurrence and development of the syndrome. As a conclusion the working conditions for the construction of representations in the health professions and to determine the burnout syndrome, especially in the surgical body was highlighted. The results may contribute to the understanding of the theoretical field of burnout, especially with regard to its determination and its development, contributing for diagnosis and prevention

Vnímání supervize pracovníků sociálních služeb v závislosti na délce jejich praxe / Supervize perception of social workers depending on the length of their practice

This diploma thesis is dealing with topic of supervision, especially with its perception by social workers depending on length of their working experience. Supervision is mostly perceived as a resource for professional growth of employees or as prevention against burnout syndrome. Regardless of how supervision is perceived, we cannot disclaim it has significant influence in area of helping professions. The goal of practical part is to describe opinions of social workers on supervision according to the length of their working experience. To find this aim out were defined two research questions: 1. How social workers perceive supervision? 2. How their opinions have been changing in the course of their working experience? For reaching out this goal was chosen qualitative strategy, method of questioning. Interviews were not controlled. The obtained data were afterwards elaborated by method of clustering. Based on the obtained results I suppose goal of this thesis was fulfilled. I found out how social workers perceive the supervision with an effort to take into account the influence of increasing working experience on that perception with taking their working experience into consideration. Social workers perceive supervision very positively in general. As well they perceive supervision as part of their profession. The supervision is perceived more negatively during the high school or university studies. However opinions of respondents on supervision were not significantly changeable during working experience. Results of this diploma thesis may be used as informational material for employers which are responsible for provision of supervisions in social services organisations. As well may this thesis be a resource of interest for social workers who are unsatisfied with supervision and have negative attitude to it.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Considering that work represents the main goal in people lives, the Quality of Work Life (QWL) and occupational health become relevant when work market is instable and insecure (COHEN, 2003). Regarding this, the biopsychosocial approach of QWL assessment understand the individual as part of the whole, comprehending its own potentials and biological, psychological and organizational aspects, which contribute to frame the human condition (LIMONGI-FRANÇA, 2007). Besides QWL, the Burnout Syndrome (MASLACH e LEITER, 1999; BENEVIDES-PEREIRA, 2010; ENACHE, 2013) has been treated as one of the harm aspects of the physical and mental health worker, also being related to the operational and organizational performance, which may be an important factor on the interpersonal relationships as well as on social contexts. The study has as main goal identifying the possible relations between the Quality of Work Life and the Burnout Syndrome. Regarding that, it was performed a survey applied to a sample of 575 public and private workers from Santa Cruz do Sul/RS. The research was developed based on a descriptive and exploratory approach, considering two theoretical models: (1) Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-GS) developed by Maslach (1996); 2) Biopsychosocial Model (BPSPO-96) developed by Limongi-França (1996). The data shown the general characterization of the sample profile is mainly comprehended by women, married, graduated, and age from 26 to 35 years. Regarding to the professional profile it was noticed that the majority works in the private sector developing operational activities. Beyond understanding the levels of QWL and Burnout, this study sought signs that would enable the targeting of strategies that would minimize dissatisfaction and illness in the workplace. The main goal of the study was answered by applying the correspondence analysis technique. Can be highlighted that the results have evidenced a direct relationship between the aspects of Biopsychosocial Model of QWL and the dimensions of Burnout. However, it can be noticed that the biological and psychological aspects do not have any relation with the correspondence analysis with the Burnout. On the other hand, social and organizational aspects, in low levels, present relation with the Burnout in high level. In this sense, the results from this analysis have shown that generally the satisfaction with QWL aspects in low levels results in emotional exhaustion depersonalization in high levels as well as the Burnout Syndrome. It is evidenced that the contribution of this study is located at the identification of the relationships between the Burnout and the QWL aspects. It can be highlighted the need of a deeper analysis on the results, investigating different variables and different populations as well as specific occupations related to work experience, once the literature related to the triangulation of themes is still incipient in Brazil. As suggestions of future works, is pointed the reproduction of the study in different contexts as well as the application of the structural equation modeling, aiming to propose a model that explains the Burnout Syndrome in Brazilian works. / Considerando que o trabalho representa o principal foco na vida de muitas pessoas, a Qualidade de Vida no Trabalho QVT e a saúde ocupacional adquirem relevância à medida que o mercado de trabalho se apresenta instável e inseguro (COHEN, 2003). Neste sentido, a abordagem biopsicossocial de avaliação da QVT compreende o indivíduo como parte do todo, abrangendo suas potencialidades, os aspectos biológicos, psicológicos, sociais e organizacionais, aspectos esses que contribuem para a concepção integral da condição humana (LIMONGI-FRANÇA, 2007). Além da QVT, a Síndrome de Burnout tem sido tratada (MASLACH e LEITER, 1999; BENEVIDES-PEREIRA, 2010; ENACHE, 2013) como um dos aspectos associados à ocorrência de agravos à saúde física e mental do trabalhador, além do funcionamento e desempenho organizacional, podendo ter importante reflexo nas relações interpessoais e de contexto social. Este estudo teve como objetivo geral, identificar as possíveis relações entre a qualidade de vida no trabalho e a Síndrome de Burnout.. Desta forma, foi realizado um levantamento do tipo Survey, aplicado a uma amostra de 575 profissionais de organizações públicas e privadas de Santa Cruz do Sul / RS. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida a partir de abordagem exploratória e descritiva, sendo utilizados dois modelos teóricos: (1) Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-GS) elaborado por Maslach (1996); (2) Abordagem Biopsicossocial (BPSPO-96) desenvolvido por Limongi-França (1996). Os dados revelaram que a caracterização geral do perfil da amostra é composta predominantemente por mulheres, casadas, com nível superior e idade de 26 à 35 anos. Em relação ao perfil profissional verificou-se que a maior parte dos respondentes atua em organizações do setor privado, desenvolvendo atividades de nível operacional. Muito mais do que compreender níveis de QVT e burnout, este estudo buscou sinalizações que possibilitassem o direcionamento de estratégias que minimizassem a insatisfação e adoecimento no ambiente de trabalho. A partir da técnica análise de correspondência o objetivo geral deste estudo pode ser respondido. Destaca-se que os resultados obtidos evidenciaram relação direta entre os aspectos da abordagem biopsicossocial de QVT com as dimensões do Burnout. Contudo, pode-se observar que, os aspectos biológicos e psicológicos não têm relação próxima na análise de correspondência com o Burnout. Por outro lado, os aspectos sociais e organizacionais em níveis baixos possuem relação próxima com o Burnout em nível alto. Neste sentido, os resultados desta análise demonstram que no geral, a satisfação com os aspectos de QVT em níveis baixos gera esgotamento emocional e despersonalização em níveis altos, bem como, a síndrome de burnout. Evidencia-se que a contribuição deste estudo reside na identificação das relações entre o burnout, com os aspectos de QVT. Ressalta-se a necessidade do aprofundamento dos resultados aqui obtidos, investigando outras variáveis, assim como diferentes populações, ou ocupações específicas relacionadas à experiência laboral, uma vez que, a literatura sobre a triangulação dos temas no Brasil, ainda é considerada incipiente. Como sugestão de estudos futuros, indica-se a replicação desse estudo em outros contextos, assim como, o uso da análise de equações estruturais, a fim de propor um modelo para a explicação da Síndrome de Burnout em profissionais brasileiros.

BURNOUT E HARDINESS ENTRE DISCENTES DE GRADUAÇÃO EM ENFERMAGEM / BURNOUT AND HARDINESS AMONG NURSING DEGREE STUDENTS

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In professional training of the nursing degree courses, there are situations which may be evaluated as stressful by students. If effective strategies are not used for coping with these situations, the stress remains and can lead to Burnout. However, Hardiness Personality is a set of features that allow resistance to stress, what is opposed to Burnout occurrence. In this process, some sociodemographic and academic characteristics can contribute to Hardiness and, thus, reduce the possibility of Burnout occurrence. In this sense, we verified the relationships among sociodemographic and academic characteristics, Burnout Syndrome and Personality Hardiness in nursing students of three Brazilian universities. This research is part of an ongoing project whose collection and partial data analysis were performed between 2011 and 2012. It is an analytical, cross-sectional and quantitative research. For data collection, we used the following instruments: Form to sociodemographic and academic characterization of students, Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS) and Hardiness Scale (EH). For analysis and organization of information, we built a database in an electronic spreadsheet in Excel (Office 2007) and used the Statistical Analysis System and Statistica. The qualitative variables were presented through absolute (n) and percentile(%) values and quantitative variables through descriptive measures: minimum and maximum values, mean and standard deviation. Cronbach alpha was used to analyze instruments internal consistency. We applied groups comparison tests to analyze the associations and comparisons among interest variables and tests were selected according to type of each variable involved. p values <0,05 were considered statistically significant, with a confidence interval of 95%. There was predominance of students who are female (84.21%), with age between 20 and 24 years (47.37%), single (74.39%), without children (81.05%) and who live with family (75.57%). Concerning to MBI-SS subscales, we verified that 64.04% of students showed a high level of Emotional Exhaustion, 35.79% high level of Cynicism and 87.72% low level of Professional Efficacy. Associating these subscales, 24.74% (n = 141) of participants presented Burnout. Regarding to HS domains, we observed 48.77% of population with high level of Control, 61.40% high level of Commitment and 35.44% high level of Challenge. In these domains association, we evidenced 21.93% (n = 125) of students with Hardiness Personality. There was a statistically significant difference between Hardiness Personality and Burnout (p = 0.033) occurrence among nursing students, being that 68.00% (n = 85) of Hardy students were not in Burnout. The occurrence, both of Burnout, as of Hardiness, was higher among students who are female, unmarried, without children, aged between 20 and 24 years, do not perform sports, without academic scholarship, enrolled in first semester, attending 10 disciplines, as well as among those who are satisfied to the course and did not think about drop it. We confirmed Hardiness as a set of features that allow stress resistance and, therefore, it is opposed to Burnout occurrence among nursing students. The sociodemographic and academic context contributes both to negative stress outcomes, like Burnout, as for strengthening of hardiness personality characteristics. Therefore, the manner in which student interprets the academic context may be define the outcomes related to stress. / Na formação profissional dos cursos de graduação em enfermagem, há situações que podem ser avaliadas como desgastantes pelos estudantes. Se não forem utilizadas estratégias efetivas para o seu enfrentamento, o estresse mantém-se e pode levar ao Burnout. Contudo, a Personalidade Hardiness consiste em um conjunto de características que permitem resistência ao estresse, o que se opõem a ocorrência do Burnout. Ainda, algumas características sociodemográficas e acadêmicas podem contribuir para o Hardiness e, assim, reduzir a possibilidade de ocorrência do Burnout. Nesse sentido, verificou-se as relações entre as características sociodemográficas e acadêmicas, a Síndrome de Burnout e a Personalidade Hardiness nos discentes de enfermagem de três universidades brasileiras. Essa pesquisa faz parte de um projeto em andamento, cuja coleta e análise parcial dos dados foram realizadas em 2011 e 2012. Trata-se de uma investigação analítica, transversal e quantitativa. Para coleta dos dados, foram utilizados um Formulário para caracterização sociodemográfica e acadêmica dos discentes, o Maslach Burnout Inventory- Student Survey (MBI-SS) e a Escala de Hardiness (EH). Para organização e análise dos dados, criou-se um banco de dados no programa Excel (Office 2007) e utilizado o programa Statistical Analisys System e Statistica. As variáveis qualitativas foram apresentadas em valores absolutos(n) e percentuais (%) e as quantitativas em medidas descritivas (valores mínimos e máximos, média e desvio padrão). Para análise da consistência interna dos instrumentos, utilizou-se o Coeficiente Alfa de Cronbach. Aplicou-se testes de comparação de grupos para análise das associações e comparações entre as variáveis de interesse e os testes foram selecionados segundo o tipo de variável envolvida. Valores de p<0,05 foram considerados estatisticamente significantes, com intervalo de confiança de 95%. Observou-se o predomínio de discentes do sexo feminino (84,21%), na faixa etária entre 20 e 24 anos (47,37%), solteiros (74,39%), sem filhos (81,05%) e que residem com a família (75,57%). Quanto às subescalas do MBI-SS, verificou-se que 64,04% dos discentes apresentaram alto nível de Exaustão Emocional, 35,79% alto nível de Despersonalização e 87,72% baixo nível de Eficácia Profissional. Na associação dessas subescalas, 24,74% apresentaram Burnout. Sobre os domínios da EH, observou-se 48,77% da população com alto nível de Controle, 61,40% com alto nível de Compromisso e 35,44% com alto nível de Desafio. Ao associar esses domínios, evidenciou-se 21,93% dos estudantes com Personalidade Hardiness. Houve diferença estatisticamente significativa (p=0,033) entre a ocorrência do Burnout e da Personalidade Hardiness nos discentes de enfermagem, sendo que dos 125 (100%) estudantes com Personalidade Hardiness, 68% (n=85) não estavam em Burnout. A ocorrência, tanto do Burnout, quanto do Hardiness, foi maior entre discentes do sexo feminino, solteiros, sem filhos, na faixa etária entre 20 e 24 anos, que não praticam Esportes, não possuem bolsa Acadêmica, estão matriculados no primeiro semestre, cursam 10 disciplinas, estão Satisfeitos com o curso e não pensaram em desistir do curso. Confirma-se o Hardiness como um conjunto de características que permite resistência ao estresse, e, portanto, opõe-se a ocorrência do Burnout entre os discentes de enfermagem. O contexto acadêmico contribui, tanto para desfechos negativos do estresse, como o Burnout, quanto para fortalecer as características da Personalidade Hardiness. Portanto, a forma com que o estudante interpreta o contexto acadêmico poderá definir os desfechos relacionados ao estresse.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This scientific study follows the Search Line of Teachers from the Post-Graduation Program on Education and it is based on the investigation and identification of the subjective experience of the psychological pressure on teachers of the PPGE/CE/UFSM, and its straight relationship with the Burnout Syndrome. The theme choice was originated from the difficulties observed in the daily activities of these professionals facing the countless demands they are imposed, and their real labor conditions contradictory and complex day after day. Taking into consideration the aspects that characterize this crisis (of educators identity and the education itself) the affective character has been pointed out, inherent to the activity evidenced by the straight bond established between teachers and students. In this way, it has been consolidated as an approach of extreme prominence, since they get vulnerable to the continuous difficulties and feel their emotional resistance influencing negatively the pedagogic practice and, in some situations, provoking the incidence of the burnout, which is divided in three dimensions: Emotional Exhaustion (EE), Personal Realization at Work (PR) and Depersonalization (DE). It corresponds to an occupational syndrome, where there is an exhaustion of the vital energy caused by the daily stress that professors are submitted and by the interpersonal involvement attempted. A descriptive-interpretative investigation of a quantity-qualitative nature was carried out using the MBI-ED instrument (Maslach Burnout Inventory Educators Survey), considered as one of the best instruments to detect the burnout degree in the professionals of the area. The analysis of the results, showed that ≈27% of the professors has manifested representative index to burnout or for some of its dimensions. From these, ≈55% revealed high level for EE, ≈41% low level for PR, and ≈36% high DE. The results confirmed that the peculiarity on this level of teaching favored the incidence of the Burnout Syndrome and only by the knowledge of the causes, it will be possible to elaborate efficient strategies of intervention and the solution for this problem. / O presente estudo científico, pertencente à Linha de Pesquisa Formação de Professores do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação, do Centro de Educação, da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, embasou-se na investigação e identificação das vivências subjetivas de sofrimento psíquico nos professores do PPGE/CE/UFSM e na sua intrínseca relação com a Síndrome de Burnout. A escolha temática originou-se das dificuldades observadas no cotidiano desses profissionais, frente as inúmeras exigências que lhes são impostas e as reais condições laborais oferecidas, cada vez mais contraditórias e complexas. Considerando a abrangência dos aspectos que configuram tal crise crise, essa, de identidade dos educadores e da própria educação priorizou-se o caráter afetivo, inerente à atividade, evidenciado pelo estreito vínculo firmado entre professores e alunos. Dessa forma, consolidou-se como uma abordagem de extrema relevância, uma vez que, vulneráveis às contínuas adversidades, vêm abalada sua resistência emocional, comprometendo a praxis pedagógica e proporcionando o aparecimento do burnout. Este, divide-se em três dimensões: Exaustão Emocional (EE), Realização Pessoal no Trabalho (RP) e Despersonalização (DE), e corresponde a uma síndrome ocupacional, onde há o esgotamento das energias vitais, provocado pelo desgaste diário ao qual é submetido através do envolvimento interpessoal empreendido. Para tanto, foi realizada uma investigação descritivo-interpretativa, de cunho quanti-qualitativo, utilizando o instrumento MBI-ED (Maslach Burnout Inventory Educators Survey), conceituado um dos melhores para detectar o grau de burnout nos profissionais da área. Todo o corpo docente do PPGE/CE/UFSM participou da avaliação e após a análise dos resultados, verificou-se que ≈27% do total de sujeitos manifestou índices representativos para o burnout ou para alguma das suas dimensões. Destes, ≈55% revelaram elevado nível para EE, ≈41% baixa RP e ≈36% alta DE. Confirmou-se, então, que as especificidades da docência nesse nível de ensino favorecem a ocorrência da Síndrome. E, somente o conhecimento aprofundado de causa pode possibilitar maior conscientização, elaboração de eficientes estratégias de intervenção e a solução de tal problemática.

This syndrome occurs mainly in professionals that work in direct contact with people. Also, it is a tridimensional syndrome that is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and a reduced sensation of professional realization. The present research aims to investigate the occurrence of Burnout Syndrome among nurses of Urgency and Emergency Hospitals in Paraíba State. Moreover, it is a descriptive research with quantitative approach, developed in six specialized hospitals in urgency and emergency in Paraíba. The sample was constituted by 110 nurses who have worked in the urgency and emergency sector. The tools used were Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Human Service Survey (HSS) version, and the Inventory of Work and Illness Risk (in Portuguese, ITRA). The data were tabled and analyzed using the SPSS software, 15.0 version. Furthermore, the research adopted significance level of 5%, and values to p < 0.05 were considered significant. The chi-square test was used to verify the association between variables. Also, all ethical aspects of researches with humans were considered in this research. The results showed predominance of female nurses, young, single and childless. Furthermore, 54.5% live in situation of multiple jobs, 49.1% works from 20 to 44 hours a week, and 30.9% of them declared that have some kind of extra-activity different from nursing assistance. In relation to the work time in nursing, actuation in hospital and in urgency and emergency services, the research observed predominance of professionals with less than five years of actuation. 61.8% are service renders or encoded ones. 31% of the nurses presented a high level of EE, 49.1% presented it in medium one. In addition, 28.2% presented DP in high level, 54.5% presented it in medium one, and 23.6% presented reduced personal accomplishment. 82.7% of the nurses presented BS, 59.1% of them in a moderated level and 23.6% in serious one. It was noted that there is an association statistically significant between the occurrence of BS and exposition to the following variables: non-repetitive tasks (p-value = 0.012), tasks has not been well defined (p-value = 0.004), precarious service conditions (p-value = 0.014), burnout (p-value = 0.000), emotional exhaustion (p-value = 0.033), stress (p-value = 0.001), overload (p-value = 0.001), frustration (p-value = 0.002), insecurity (p-value = 0.015), and lack of recognition of my performance (p-value = 0.041). Also, recognition is considered as a protection factor against BS development (RR = 0.82/CI = 0.71&#894; 0.94). The research concludes that nurses which work in urgency and emergency services presents an expressive level of illness because of the lasting contact with the work conditions of this kind of service. It is necessary to implement strategies that focus on the elimination, reduction or, minimally, the control of variables associated to Burnout Syndrome development among nurses of urgency and emergency services. Then, these strategies aim to the health reestablishment of these professionals, and the sanity preservation of nurses that are still healthy. Therefore, professionals, users and managers will obtain benefits. / A síndrome de burnout é um fenômeno psicossocial resultante da associação entre as demandas e exigências laborais e as características pessoais do indivíduo. Acomete, principalmente, profissionais que trabalham em contato direto com pessoas. Trata-se de uma síndrome tridimensional, caracterizada por exaustão emocional, despersonalização e sensação de reduzida realização profissional. Nesta pesquisa objetivou-se investigar a ocorrência da síndrome de burnout entre enfermeiros da rede hospitalar de urgência e emergência no Estado da Paraíba. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva com abordagem quantitativa realizada em seis hospitais especializados no atendimento às urgências e emergências no Estado. A amostra foi constituída por 110 enfermeiros que atuavam no setor de urgência e emergência. Utilizou-se como instrumento o Maslach Burnout Invetory (MBI) na versão Human service survey (HSS) e o Inventário de Trabalho e Risco de Adoecimento (ITRA). Os dados foram tabulados e analisados com o auxílio do software SPSS na versão 15.0. Foi adotado nível de significância de 5%, sendo considerados significativos os valores de p < 0,05. Para verificar associação entre as variáveis foi aplicado o teste do qui-quadrado. Foram considerados todos os aspectos éticos das pesquisas envolvendo seres humanos. Os resultados mostraram predominância de enfermeiros do sexo feminino, jovens, sem companheiro e sem filhos. 54,5% vivem a situação do múltiplo emprego, 49,1% cumprem uma carga horária semanal de trabalho de 20 a 44 horas, 30,9% exercem algum tipo de atividade extra, diferente da enfermagem assistencial. Para o tempo de exercício da profissão, de atuação no hospital e em serviços de urgência e emergência, observou-se predomínio de profissionais com menos de cinco anos de atuação. 61,8% são prestadores de serviço ou codificados. 31% dos enfermeiros apresentaram EE em nível alto, 49,1% em nível médio, 28,2% apresentaram DP em nível alto, 54,5% a apresentaram em nível médio, 23,6% apresentaram reduzida realização profissional. 82,7% dos enfermeiros apresentaram SB, sendo 59,1% em nível moderado e 23,6% em nível grave. Houve associação estatisticamente significativa entre a ocorrência da SB e exposição às seguintes variáveis: as tarefas são repetitivas (p-valor = 0,012), as tarefas não estão claramente definidas (p-valor = 0,004), as condições de trabalho são precárias (p-valor = 0,014), esgotamento profissional (p-valor = 0,000), esgotamento emocional (p-valor = 0,033), estresse (p-valor = 0,001), sobrecarga (p-valor = 0,001), frustração (p-valor = 0,002), insegurança (p-valor = 0,015), e falta de reconhecimento do meu desempenho (p-valor = 0,041). Reconhecimento mostrou-se como um fator de proteção ao desenvolvimento da SB (RR = 0,82/IC = 0,71&#894; 0,94). Conclui-se que os enfermeiros que atuam em serviços de urgência e emergência apresentam expressivo nível de adoecimento em virtude do contato diuturno com as condições em que se realizam o trabalho nesse tipo de serviço. Há que se implementar estratégias que visem a eliminação, redução ou, minimamente, o controle das variáveis associadas ao desenvolvimento do burnout entre os enfermeiros dos serviços de urgência e emergência, tendo em vista o restabelecimento da saúde desses profissionais e a preservação da saúde mental daqueles que ainda se encontram saudáveis. Ganharão com isso os profissionais, os usuários e os gestores.
