Towards a continuous improvement cycle for knowledge capitalization : A case study at STMicroelectronics / Vers un cycle d'amélioration continue pour la capitalisation des connaissances : un cas d'étude à STMicroelectronics

Brichni, Manel 10 December 2015 (has links)
At STMicroelectronics, the Business Intelligence team is daily confronted to exploit data and information to create reports about manufacturing activities in order to supervise it. In such an industrial organization, products change regularly and data can quickly become obsolete. Consequently, over time, the number of created reports is highly growing, while knowledge about their creation is lost. This is shown in a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the main part of the STMicroelectronics' knowledge system. As a result, problems related to knowledge obsolescence, duplication, non-centralization and proliferation continuously arise. Therefore, this work addresses the general following research question:How to ensure a continuous expert knowledge capitalization? To answer this question, a continuous improvement cycle for knowledge capitalization is proposed. Its objective is to effectively and continuously capitalize expert knowledge while targeting business needs and providing an evolving solution. It is based on a Business Intelligence for Business Intelligence system (BI4BI). Since knowledge is embedded not only in systems and tools, but also in human minds and practices, our proposed knowledge capitalization solution also involves people and organizations: it proposes to collect users' feedbacks and insights to integrate them in knowledge representation and in our BI4BI tool.

IFRS 16 : Standardens effekter på de finansiella rapporterna och kreditgivares bedömningar / IFRS 16 : The standard’s effects on the financial reports and the creditors’ assessments

Forsman, Alexander, Karlsson, Victor January 2018 (has links)
Leasing has generally been an attractive financing method for companies to obtain the assets required to compete in its industry. With IAS 17, leases can be classified as either financial or operating leases, which affects how companies report their leases. Operating leases has created opportunities for companies to keep their financing outside their balance sheets and thus hidden from the companies’ external stakeholders. The companies have thus been able to show a better picture of their financial position and performance. International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) now seeks to resolve this issue by introducing a new accounting standard called the IFRS 16. This new accounting standard means that all listed companies now have to report all their leasing contracts as financial, which means they are capitalized in the company's financial reports. The purpose of this study is to explain IFRS 16 and the effects a capitalization of operating leases can have on a company's financial reports and key ratios. In addition, we want to create an understanding of how this change can affect creditors' assessments of financial reports based on the features of the IASB Conceptual Framework. With the help of a capitalization, we have entered a company's operating leases in their income statement and balance sheet and subsequently studied the effects on the key financial ratios. This material has then been used in interviews with different creditors. The results of our study show that the financial statements and key ratios are affected by a transition to IFRS 16. Another conclusion of our study is that creditors get a more faithful representation of the company's financial position and that the comparability increases when a company’s operating leases are capitalized.

Fundamentální indexování / Fundamental indexing

Chytrý, Martin January 2009 (has links)
The paper deals with stock market indices. It reveals the flaws inherent in traditional market capitalization weighted indices, that causes a return drag. At the same time it shows how you can get rid of these flaws by using fundamental indices, and gives proofs about their superiority. The practical part focuses on building fundamental indices of czech stocks traded on the Prague Stock Exchange, dealing with historical data. It empirically demonstrates their outperformance of a benchmark market capitalization weighted index.

Pereira, Otávio Monteiro 17 August 2015 (has links)
Technique, industrialization and capitalism are the tonic of French society of the 19th century. The mercantilization of literature, phenomenon from various implications, as literacy and new techniques of production and distribution, is analyzed with the theoretical contribution of authors such as Roger Chartier (2009), Christophe Charle (1991) and Renato Ortiz (2001). In Balzac we analyze two works of his The Human Comedy, namely: Lost Illusions (1835-1845) and Eugénie Grandet (1833). The frustrations of the young Lucien of the Lost Illusions are put into review in relations between province and capital, as well as the conflict between the rich bourgeoisie and the aristocracy who sought to maintain a noble tradition. Avarice and evil are candescent elements in Eugénie Grandet, in so far as Mister Grandet is commanded by an excessive avarice. In the relationship with his daughter Eugenie and all around her, emotional ties are broken by the love of money, so the notion of experience is dull. We treat these works in the light of experts as Nicole Mozet (1998), Paulo Rónai (2012), François Taillandier (2005) and still Pierre-Louis Rey (1979), Paul Ricoeur (1988), JoëlleGleize (1994). In Benjamin, we'll treat some fundamental elements of his thought: loss of experience, the notion of history and the loss of aura. These elements are contained in his great project of Passages, and also in primary texts as the Theses on the Philosophy of History (1940), his essay about Baudelaire or also Experience and poverty (1933). Fund of authors as Lukács (1999), Sergio Paulo Rouanet (2005), Jeanne Marie Gagnebin (2009), Karl Marx (2008), Theodor Adorno (1985), Hannah Arendt (2010) show up with pertinent issues to Benjamin's thought. The flâneur, gaming and prostitution figures, highlighted by Benjamin will be an important link in decoding the intricacies of France of the 19th century, also establishing a link with the work of Balzac and literature then produced. That same France coveted titles of obsolet nobility, while selling literature as it sells a cap or any other industrialized object.

The impact of the IRB approach on the Swedish bank system / IRK-modellern as effekt på det svenska banksystemet

Wenell, Agnes, Sjödin, Simon January 2016 (has links)
Since the implementation of the Basel II framework in 2007, banks have been given the  opportunity to apply for the option to develop intern models for calculating their required capital. The purpose with this opportunity is that the capital requirements will correspond to the real risk exposure. This has been criticized, since there are incentives for the bank to do  an incorrect risk assessment intentionally and through that get a lower capital requirement. In this report we study how this opportunity affects the banks’ capitalization and if stricter capital requirements in fact leads to that the Swedish banks are better prepared for a financial crisis. The report also describes the risks that this opportunity to internal rating  causes. The study has been done by qualitative method where seven people, with different interests in the market, have been interviewed. By the answers given by the respondents and by earlier publications this report reveals that stronger capitalization is positive, but that  the Basel framework causes a risk that the banks intentionally underestimates  their risks. Nor is it possible to conclude that the banks are better prepared for a crisis afterthe implementation. This is because the IRB approach is something new and therefore  not optimized and yet balanced.

Real Estate Investments in 18-hour Cities: Do 18-hour cities offer better investments than 24-hour cities? / Fastighetsinvesteringar i 18-timmarsstäder: Erbjuder 18-timmarsstäder bättre investeringsmöjligheter än 24-timmarsstäder?

Arwidsson, Jacob January 2016 (has links)
With the rise of the millennial generation, a new roster of cities has sprung to life – the 18-hour cities. They can be defined as a vibrant second-tier city where there’s a big potential for employment and economic growth and at the same time they offer a lower cost of living and doing business than in 24-hour gateway cities like New York City or San Francisco. They have been named the hottest places for real estate investments by industry literature which poses the question if 18-hour cities really offer better investments than 24-hour cities. This paper uses a statistical analysis framework complemented with qualitative interviews of industry professionals based in 18-hour markets to test this notion. From the statistical analysis, it has been found that 18-hour cities offer higher yields than the 24-hour markets but the cash return cannot be said do differ between the two. Furthermore, the interviews with industry professionals indicate that the 18-hour markets have major future growth prospects because of their job growth, population growth and the large in-migration of high-skilled labor gravitating towards these amenity-rich areas where they can receive the highest reward-for-skill / Med millenniegenerationens framfart har en ny rad städer vaknat till liv – 18-timmarsstäderna.
