Previous issue date: 2012-03-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The main objective of this research is to develop a theoretical discussion about the
phenomenon of social (re)categorization and (de)legitimation of discourse, in which
we take into account social, historical, cultural and cognitive aspects involved in the
use of language in times of social conflict. Bearing this objective in mind, we base
this study on, at least, three different fields of Linguistics, namely, Critical Discourse
Analysis and its studies on (de)legitimation of discourse, Text Linguistics and its
contribution with its studies on referentiation and Cognitive Linguistics and the theory
of Idealized Cognitive Models. This integration of theories aims at investigating the
way the personal pronoun forms of the subjective case turn it feasible to create and
reflect the several social categories which may derive from the same pronoun.
Besides, we also aim at investigating the role of this linguistic resource in the
phenomenon of (de)legitimation of discourse. The socio-historical-cultural moment
chosen to study these issues was the Civil Rights of the sixties in the United States
of America. The corpus is composed of the speeches I have a dream by Martin
Luther King, Jr. and The ballot or the bullet by Malcolm X. In our analysis, we
investigate how the two leaders constructed their speeches around (de)legitimation
of discourse and of social (re)categorization before the racial conflict the American
society faced. We highlight the relation form-meaning established by the pronominal
forms as cognitively motivated, lying on beliefs, values and world knowledge shared
with and learned from other individuals within the socio-cultural context in which they
are inserted.
discursos, considerando aspectos sociais, históricos, culturais e cognitivos
corpus selecionado é composto pelos discursos I have a dream de Martin Luther
King, Jr. e The ballot or the bullet de Malcolm X. Em nossa análise, investigamos

A conceptualização de bandido em expressões bandido de x: uma perspectiva cognitivista / Conceptualization of bandit in expressions bandit of x: a cognitive perspectiveJuliana dos Santos Ferreira 29 May 2012 (has links)
The theme of this study is the concept of bandit. We intend to investigate, analyze and describe the idealized cognitive models of 32 expressions resulted from the construction bandit of x .We organized a corpus composed of 137 comments taken from the internet that contain bandit of x expressions. We provide a description of the Idealized Cognitive Models. It counts on the contributions of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (LAKOFF and JONHSON, 1980), Conceptual Blending Theory (FAUCONNIER and TURNER, 2002) and Idealized Cognitive Models Theory (LAKOFF, 1987). The another part of the corpus was made by analyzing responses of 15 elementary school students, 18 middle school students and 20 college students which students set 24 expressions bandit x. The research followed a qualitative procedure of data analysis which we see the different interpretations given to the terms on the basis of various cognitive processes Thus, based on analysis of comments from netizens and definitions of students, we propose four processes of conceptualization to outlaw expressions of x: (a) conceptualization based on propositional cognitive models, where x is interpreted as a rental place of origin or acting bandit - bandit hill, street thug, thug in jail - (b) conceptualization based on the schematic, pictorial models, we observe the allocation of a kind of scale to the meaning attributed to construction, culminating in different status for category villain of x, the underlying expressions bandit first / second / fifth category / line, (c) conceptualization of x-based metonymic models, where x is a piece of clothing / footwear / accessories, so to interpret the bandit as belonging to a category that tends to use certain piece of clothing, accessory or footwear - white collar crook, uniformed bandits, bandit slipper - (d) conceptualization of BANDIT of x, based on metaphorical models in x is an abstract concept that can be understood as an object owned by the BANDIT in order to characterize it by way of acting or expertise - bandit concept, attitude bandit, bandit of faith. We believe, therefore, the possibility of description of standards governing the conceptualization of BANDIT of x, whose senses achieved through modifiers reveal productivity and complexity of the cognitive model BANDIT

Emergency Medical Call Center is a part of Emergency Medicine. Emergency Medical Dispatching Physician (EMDP) deals with a critical dynamic environment. SimulPhone© is a novel simulator for call center. The aim of this work is to build a training simulation tool from the cognitive engineering. With simulation scenarios, we conducted five experiments. For the first one, we tested the feasibility and determined the fields of analysis. The second study tested the validity and reliability of the simulator. We then established a cognitive performance score. The third experiment determined a subgroup with experts with the previous score. Their behaviors were analyzed for each scenario in order to establish an educational guide. The fourth experiment studied the impact of dominance on the reasoning and decision. The last one analysed the learning experience during a simulation day. Our results found (1) a significant realism of the simulator. We have demonstrated (2) the validity, reliability, intra and inter-observer simulator. These results are not affected by the profession of the participants. In the third experiment, the subgroup of experts allowed us to build an educational guide. In cardiac arrest, we observed a cognitive underload from subject to the caller in order to realise a telephone cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We have demonstrated (4) the impact of paraverbal informations on the decision of EMDP. At least, during a training session (5), we observed previous knowledge awakening.

Modelování procesů jako prostředek komunikace se zákazníky / Business process modeling in a context of customer communicationPokorná, Martina January 2017 (has links)
(in English): The basis of this diploma thesis is to describe business process modelling and its current use in IT companies. The subject is to determine if respondents use process modelling in their companies or if they find it unsuitable. In the theoretical part, modelling in the context of information science, new media, and some models of communication are briefly presented. An important part of the theory is focused on the chapter of cognitive modelling, as a basic approach for creating process models. It follows an introduction of process modelling and a current market overview in this industry. The practical part maps the use of modelling in companies. Methodology is presented as first followed by data analysis. The research uses questionnaire survey for data collection, for qualitative data processing applies the grounded theory. Finally, the thesis evaluates the current state of modelling on the Czech market and defines the strengths and weaknesses of the process modelling.

The effect of having too much choiceScheibehenne, Benjamin 26 February 2008 (has links)
This dissertation explores the so-called too-much-choice effect, according to which an overabundance of options eventually leads to negative consequences, such as a diminished motivation to choose any of them or a decreased satisfaction with the finally chosen alternative. While strong instances of this effect have been found in a small number of studies in the past, its theoretical underpinnings are still unspecific. Because the effect challenges basic axioms of rational choice theory and it also has important implications for applied fields such as marketing and public policy making, it is important to get a better understanding of the mechanisms that lead to the effect. As a starting point to test these mechanisms, an experimental paradigm is needed in which the effect reliably occurs. Therefore, I first strived to replicate previous experiments that reported large effect sizes. Yet in a series of three replications in the field and in the lab with a total of 850 participants, I did not find an effect of too much choice, suggesting that the effect is less robust than previously thought and that it depends on certain boundary conditions instead. To find out which specific conditions are necessary to reliably elicit it, I subsequently examined several boundary conditions in a series of six laboratory experiments. Based on the results of these experiments with a total of 595 participants, most of the tested boundary conditions could be ruled out as explanations of why and when the effect of too much choice occurs. The results of a meta-analysis of published and unpublished data including my own suggest that the effect of too much choice is smaller than previously thought and that the differences between the studies that found the effect and those that did not cannot be explained by mere chance. As a consequence, a further search for moderator variables in future research seems justified.

In Swedish dialects we find the terms ris,skäver and skärva referring to illnesses in children. The words are also parts of various compounds which refer to variants of the illnesses. The terms are linguistic expressions denoting two folk categories of illnesses, RIS and SKÄVER/SKÄRVA. These categories are investigated from a cognitive semantic perspective. The cognitive perspective argues that we organize our understanding of reality by using Idealized Cognitive Models (ICM) based on our physical, mental and emotional experiences of the world. The aim is twofold: to demonstrate the bases on which an experienced illness is placed in a certain category, and to show how a folk conception of illness is reflected in the word formation strategies. The word formation strategies emanate from notions of characteristic symptoms, and from notions of causes of illnesses. Both categories, RIS and SKÄVER/SKÄRVA, are based on a number of ICM's. The category RIS is a radial structure, which means that the category is held together although its members have no structural criteria in common. The category SKÄVER/SKÄRVA is a concentrating structure, meaning that all members share all structural criteria. There is a strong connection between word formation strategies and the structures of the categories. Terms related to symptoms refer to members of a category which are part of a radial structure, while terms related to causes refer to members of a category which are part of a concentrating structure. This can be explained by two of the basic assumptions of cognitive semantics: semantic content is structred and symbolized overtly on the surface form of a language and categories are conventional, based on cultural assumptions about the world. / digitalisering@umu

Previous issue date: 2008-05-15 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / In this thesis it is reflected about the superstructure notions from the
scientific text, as basis for the establishment of reading procedures, from
which it is possible to obtain as a result the textual production of the
reading report genre. It is intended to verify how the superstructure,
based on Textual Linguistics, can establish the bases for guidance at the
textual elaboration of this genre, and how the activity helps to build
social relations. The purpose is to study the implications of the genres
belonging to academic context and their reflex in the process of
inserting the individual in the social groups. For this, the work relies on
studies on superstructure and cognitive models of global representation,
understood for ideological analysis of speech, based on social and
cognitive psychology, at sociology and at speech analysis. Theoretical
bases get in confront, which establish the principles for a
complementary study between superstructure and genres, as well as
their ideological implications. It is defended in this thesis that a citizen is
inserted in social groups through knowledge, domain and practice of
the representation models, facing three stages: a) assimilation and
acceptance of both ideologies and representation models; b) practice
of the assimilated models, in agreement, including with the learned
ideologies, which enable him the receiving of voice inside the group,
assigned by the group itself; c) chance of proposing changes in the
social representation models and in the group s beliefs, through the
atividade ajuda a construir relações sociais.

[en] BUILDING A THEORETICAL AND ANALYTICAL MODEL OF THE ARGUMENTATIVE DISCOURSE IN THE EARLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GRADES: A SOCIOCOGNITIVE AND SOCIODISCURSIVE APPROACH OF OPINION ESSAY / [pt] CONSTRUINDO UM MODELO TEÓRICO E ANALÍTICO DO DISCURSO ARGUMENTATIVO NAS PRIMEIRAS SÉRIES DO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL: UMA ABORDAGEM SOCIOCOGNITIVA E SOCIODISCURSIVA DO TEXTO DE OPINIÃO.TEREZINHA MARIA BARROSO SANTOS 31 March 2006 (has links)
15 anos).
contexto escolar.
do discurso escrito; (2) as influências do modelo
conversacional de mudança de turno na escrita do aprendiz;
A análise orienta-
aprendiz, no tocante à atitude epistemológica e
evidencialidade.
determinar a dimensão pragmática, discursiva e
[en] In the field of Psychology and Didactics of Language many
researches on the acquisition and learning process of
argumentative discourse among elementary school students
have led us to approach this discursive competence based
on the parameters of adult mode of writing arguments. As a
result, studies on the subject matter tend to conceive the
children`s essays in terms of inadequacy and lack of
proficiency; and as consequence of its complex cognitive
demands the teaching of argument has been belated to the
end of elementary school curriculum (14-15years old). The
implicit hypothesis behind this procedure is that there is
a graduation-succession for the learning of discursive
genres in a way that narrative and descriptive genres
should precede systematic teaching of argumentation. The
prime goal of the present research is to determine to what
extent 8-11 year-old pupils have represented for
themselves the argumentative schema when they are asked to
write an opinion essay as a school task. The second one is
to identify how this textual schema is carried out by the
learning children and textualized into written mode of
language, considering (1) children`s cognitive development
level to deal with the dialogic dimensions of written
discourse; (2) the turn-take conversation influences on
their writing, and (3) children`s lack of formal learning
of argumentative genres in school curriculum. For this
purpose we took as our basis on the sociocognitive
hypothesis of language acquisition and on
socionteracionist approach of language. The research
analyses a longitudinal corpus composed of 145 essays
produced by the same elementary school students from 2nd
grade up to the beginning of 5th in a public school. The
students were asked to write five different opinion
essays. The analysis is split into two main focuses: the
first one highlights the way the learning children build
their written opinion in terms of textual configuration
through both articulation and coordination of textual
sequences; the second focus highlights the nature of
arguments chosen by the learning children in terms of
epistemological attitude and evidenciality. The research
confirms that in the genre of argument and expressions of
opinion, most of the children displays a particular
knowledge to categorize communicative events of language
in use, although the cognitive model triggered to convince
and persuade the addressee could not necessarily suit the
adult prototype schema and school expectations. At the
same time, it also shows that a simple argumentative
disposal does not determine beforehand the textual schema
triggered by the children to frame their argumentation;
contextual and sociocognitve features also determine the
pragmatic, discursive and argumentative dimension of the
text. Due to the features shown in the present research,
and as far as pedagogy and didactic of language is
concerned we defend that systematical and progressive
teaching of argumentation should begin as early as
possible in school context.

Antropologický seriál: kognitivní a semiotické modely kultury / Anthropological series: cognitive and semiotic models of cultureDurňak, Milan January 2011 (has links)
ANTROPOLOGICKÝ SERIÁL - Kognitívne a semiotické modely kultury Abstract /english version/: The author of the thesis has developed a methodological framework of visual anthropology by collecting relevant information concerning the subject and by verifying this knowledge practically in an authentic living environment. This interconnection represents the main twist in the methodology, which turns away from the informative and interpretative version of ethnographic (anthropological) film and moves towards its functional, socio-cultural analysis. The subject of the thesis is an interdisciplinary research and possibilities of applying cognitive and semiotic analytical schemes into the process of directing an anthropological series. The entire project of an authentic ethnographic research and the film tumenge (I., II., III.) attempt to display the interethnical relations in the village Palota in the North-East of Slovakia, particularly bringing the life in the local Roma settlement and its individual members into sharp focus.

A análise do corpus selecionado confirma as hipóteses inicialmente levantadas. / Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-19T17:24:04Z

Dissertacao Carina Granzotto.pdf: 2486643 bytes, checksum: dddee18ae2237d598ee4373580a51283 (MD5) / This dissertation has the goal of reconstructing the cognitive cultural models that made up the conceptual category RELIGION, with a basis on the discourse of/about immigrants from the Old Italian colonies from the northern region of Rio Grande do Sul, in relation to how they experienced religiosity. This is done through a semantic analysis of the expressions used, for instance, in the texts of anthropologic and historiographic nature; reports of memories, letters, and diaries. The sources of this discourse are documented bibliographies that cover the period from 1875 to the decade of 1950. The corpus of this work is made up of 138 segments, organized accordingly into five categories with different sources. The investigation centers on the field of Cognitive Semantic, oriented by the Theory of Idealized Cognitive Models (TICM), proposed by Lakoff and his colleagues. This study justifies itself and guarantees its unprecedented nature since there has not yet been empirical studies done about religion in a culture or sub culture. The theory presented allows the evaluation of how a conceptual category structures itself and evolves in a culture. The analysis takes place inside the sphere of Catholic Religion, since this is the religion that predominates the culture in question. The method utilized is the hypothetic-deductive, from which the preliminary radial structure of the category is built, with a basis on the inspectional analysis of the initial corpus. The hypotheses is that: (1) the category has a structure that is propositional radial, in which the prototypical sub-models are RITUALS; (2) the category RELIGION has a radial structure having GOD as a radial axis and FATHER as the prototypical center; (3) metaphoric and metonymic structures organize extensions or projections from these rays; (4) the types of propositional structures, like the propositional model script, organize elements that make up the radial structure. The Moral Metaphor System is applied as a model that organizes this structure. The analyses of the selected corpus confirm the initial hypotheses suggested. The sub model RITUALS is confirmed as the one which prototypically represents the category. The other hypotheses confirmed concerns the influence of the propositional model script as the integral part of the RITUALS model. The preliminary hypothetic radial structure, at the end of the analyses, is adjusted to the findings of the research. This investigation does not aim to bring up conceptions of religion but rather to investigate the semantic-conceptual structure of RELIGION through the explicit codification reveled in linguistic expressions or in inferences from them, as well as through metaphoric, metonymic, and propositional models.
