Diferenças culturais na cducação: discursos, desentendimentos e tensões / Cultural differences in education: discourses, disagreements and tensions

Daniele Pechuti Kowalewski 13 May 2010 (has links)
The main purpose of this study was to question the present-day educational discourse that seeks to value cultural differences, now widely naturalized. In order to understand the emergence of statements about the cultural pluralities, diversities and / or differences within the Brazilian educational context, we review some documents at the federal level, issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) between 1997 and 2007. During the research, the need arose to map some different global contexts in which the theme of diversity had gained prominence, as well as the different epistemological trends debating this subject. We have established, in our discursive cartography, two main theoretical trends: the critical theory and the post-structuralism. There are several differences between them and, even within their core, we detect many debates. The main feature that relates the critical theory to the discussion that we are proposing is its approach about the role assigned to Reason, Dialectic, Recognition of Identity and Redistribution of Goods. On the other hand, in poststructuralism we find reviews about these concepts by means of the establishment of other ideas, with a focus on translations, hybridisms and cultural differences. The authors and documents that we have surveyed are often based on different perspectives about justice, Human Rights, communities, or even the importance of the differences in the political arena. In order to understand the dynamics of this field of battle, we used the concept of disagreement, as postulated by Rancière. We also observed that the discussions about differentiated citizenships or affirmative actions for certain groups only become relevant in a liberal political context, with its peculiar appreciation of the individual rights. For this reason, we studied the peculiarities of the formation of liberal ideas in Brazil. The paper comprises three parts that relate to each other and three \"intervals\" that complement them. In the first part the focus is the global discursive disagreements; in the second part, the peculiarities of Brazil; and in the third part the emphasis is on the educational discourses, in which we focus on some curriculum guidelines, which are described in detail so that the trends exposed in them can be understood, and construed as guides for practices and new subjectivations. Among several aspects present in the documents, four were those that stood out the most: the production and naturalization of certain \"neighborhoods\" (blacks, Indians, women, the disabled, homosexuals, etc.), the proximity between cultural diversity and biology, the emphasis on the recognition and, above all, the construction of an essentialist discourse about the differences, especially within the ethnic and racial spheres, which arises from the challenging of the \"myth of racial democracy in Brazil. In the construction and analysis of this tense and vital debate, we applied the concept of discourse, as established by Foucault. Our purpose was to provide subsidies to this pressing question: what the school\'s role is in this re-conceptualization about justice in the political and social context, which currently seems to merge inequality and exclusion by means of disagreements on the relationship between equality and difference.

Pinho, Patricia Moura January 2006 (has links)
This master’s dissertation has as its research issue analysing discourses on curriculum and teaching appearing in the plans of study of the schools in the education municipal network at Canoas, also outlining the interdiscursive plots shaping them. The plans of study are a new kind of curricular organisation, established by Federal and State laws of education since 1999, which we examine to see discourses on curriculum circulating in the national arena. These discourses affect the mentioned plans, which are shaped in a text woven by many voices. These voices refer to not only educational laws, but also the academic production in teaching and language fields, which has underpinned the writing of another document I have analysed here: the National Curricular Parameters (PCNs - 1997). From the poststructuralist Cultural Studies, this research aims at looking at the ways in which the curriculum and teaching are depicted in the plans of study, their organisation and their meaning effects. In this perspective, I take into consideration the curriculum as a text, understanding it as a cultural artefact, since it is made in social practices and gives meanings. Thus I want to propose to analyse textually and discursively the documents featured as sources for research: laws, PCNs, SMEC/Canoas guidelines, plans of study, etc. Therefore, I have discussed in this study concepts relating to curriculum, such as order, representation, flexibility, interdisciplinarity, as well as the ways in which modernity has enabled the construction of the curricular thought, school and school teaching. Concerning the latter, in the plans of study of the schools in the education municipal network at Canoas, marks for constructivist and socio-interactionist discourses of language, as well as the effects, although loose, from studies on literacy, appear. Turning visible the interdiscursive plots depicting teaching in the analysed plans of study has enabled considering the curriculum and thereby its planning as the first step for schooling literacy and teaching practices in school.

Political discourse, full of social and ideological values, has become research object of investigation in academia, in various areas: linguistics, anthropology, history, communication, etc. However, after research found that political discourse has never been studied from the perspective of Analysis of Ecological Speech. Thus, the theme of this dissertation arose: the study of political Marina Silva speech from the perspective of Analysis of Ecological Speech henceforth ADE. Marina Silva stood out in 2014 in her campaign because talk about the promotion of a "new policy" as opposed to "Old Policy" for her criticism, which aroused the interest in understanding which direction policy in the speeches of the former candidate. Also in this campaign Marina was considered inconsistent for some changes made in their proposals, which raised more concern in understanding the developments that led to change some issues, for example, LGBT causes. Thus, we have as main objective to analyze the Marina interview in order to understand what is the make political and as can to be seen from de perspective of ADE. We define specific objectives: to describe the effects of sense produced in the speech of Marina Silva; checking for agreement and disagreement between the statements of the candidate in interviews and in his government plan, in relation to the themes education, economy, environment and issues relating to the law of minorities, as well as understanding the interactions that led to possible changes between these speech and, finally, analyze the proposals of Marina, seeking to understand how they aim to build new political stances. We selected as analysis corpus an interview with Marina Silva during the presidential campaign of 2014. As a theoretical framework, we used the analisys ecological of discourses. Thus, we present, at first, the Ecolinguistics with their bases, as well as the categories of analysis and some of his views. Even as theoretical support, we present a discussion of different perspectives to think about politics. Therefore, we bring to discussion the Deep Ecology, the Ecopolitics and ecoética. We use the methodology of ADE (ecometodologia), which is the focus, the crop given field interactions, but without neglecting the whole (GARNER, 2004), is characterized mainly for being a multimethodological discipline (COUTO; ALBUQUERQUE, 2015). It was observed that from the perspective of the Analisys ecological of discourses political make Marina is positive for society to working with the diversity that permeates both the field of politics and the community as a whole, which allows the demands of society are better embraced and providing for protection of the environment.

Temporalização dos discursos políticos no processo de Independência do Brasil (1820-1822) / Temporalization of political discourses in the process of Independence of Brazil (1820-1822)

Rafael Fanni 29 January 2015 (has links)
This work analyses the configuration of discourses in Rio de Janeiro at the time of the independence of Brazil. By focusing on the periodical press as well as on leaflets published during that period, the research studies the process of temporalization of political discourses and its implication to the relationship between historical time and the dynamics of political change. In order to do so, this dissertation focuses on the study of concepts, languages, metaphors, and expressions that shaped linguistic constructions in which the historical time consisted of the axis of discursive performances interfering in the process of independence. Taking these issues into consideration, this works hypothesizes that the temporalization of political discourses articulated as well as fed itself in a new historical dynamic spanning from the late 18th century and early 19th century, when a revolutionary modern space of experience was being formed.

This study intends to analyze the complexity which involves the debate, in its wider sense, between the Catholic and Candomblé discourses within the Post-Vatican II context. Firstly, I intend to comprehend how the Catholic discourses about the Afro-Brazilian religions were built in the time period that follows the II Vatican Council, noticing their differences when contrasted with the immediately previous period (from the 40’s to the 60’s). Sencondly, I analyze some sample discourses of two well-known sacred spaces in Bahia, Brazil - the Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá and the Ilê Axé Iyá Nassô Oká - (the latter also known as Terreiro da Casa Branca). Finally, I intend to mainly demonstrate that there are significant possibilities for answers to the Catholic discourse about the Afro-Brazilian religions within the Candomblé scope, which were driven specially by the controversies around the syncretism.

Under ytan i svensklärares skrivuppgifter : Diskurser och styrning i uppgiftskonstruktioner på gymnasieskolan / Under the Surface in Teacher's Writing Tasks : Writing Discources within the Subject of Swedish in Upper Secondary School

Börjesson, Susanne January 2017 (has links)
Writing tasks are central in the subject of Swedish, and they can be designed in various ways. The variation in design when teachers construct their own writing tasks can be due to differing views of the teaching of writing and exercises in writing. The aim of this work is to investigate how different discourses about writing and learning to write become visible in teachers’ constructions of writing tasks, and whether there are different degrees of steering in the tasks in relation to the discourse(s) to which they can be said to belong. Twelve writing tasks were examined in the study with the aid of Ivanič’s (2004) framework for analysis of discourses about writing and learning to write, and the result shows that the creativity discourse dominates among the tasks and that the sociopolitical discourse is sparsely represented among them. Several tasks have features of more than one discourse and can therefore be called hybrids. The degree of steering by the designer of the task differs between the tasks. In tasks that can be linked to the skills discourse there is usually a high degree of steering of the content, and in tasks that can be linked to the creativity discourse the designer of the task uses a different form of steering with questions which mean that the teacher gains access to personal information about the pupils.

Political communication and virality in the US presidential campaign : A CDA analysis of the 2016 US presidential candidates’ discourses and performances in late night shows

SÁNCHEZ, FRANCISCO January 2017 (has links)
The current study set out to shed light on the performances that 2016 US presidential candidates used during their interventions on the late-night comedy shows. Following the methodologies ofCritical Discourse Analysis, the aim of the thesis was to uncover and, therefore, analyze, the type of discourses that candidates used in the shows and how they combined them. There was establisheda special focus on the rhetorical styles used by each candidate, as well as the emotional content ofthe discourses, unexpected situations and comedy performances, with the aim to find the elements which lead to virality. This study reveals the rhetorical strategies used by politicians through ananalysis of the political and personal discourses they used in late-nigh comedy shows. According tothe results, the political discourse is most prevalent during the interview than the personal, which isused to start conversations and evoke personalized emotions. The study provides insights upon the elements found in politicians’ discourses on the late-night circuit that lead to achieve virality on social media.

Framing biodiversity conservation discourses in South Africa: emerging realities and conflicting agendas within the Great Limpopo transfrontier conservation area

Whande, Webster January 2009 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / This dissertation explores local people's framing of externally driven biodiversity conservation approaches in the context of transfrontier conservation initiatives. It uses data from the Madimbo corridor, a specific locality within the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, situated to the northeast of South Africa along the South Africa-Zimbabwe boundary. It shows that livelihoods, historical experiences with external interventions and exclusion from policy-making processes and programme implementation influence local strategies for engaging with external interventions. Thus, an analysis of framing of external interventions at a local level should establish the following: the role of natural resources in sustaining local livelihoods; local historical experiences with an external intervention; iii) the nature of multi-level actor interactions from local resource dependent people, to national, regional and global actors involved in or affected by an intervention. The study uses a detailed case study of Bennde Mutale village to trace local people's ideas, ways of speaking and actions in response to the implementation of a large-scale transfrontier conservation initiative. The study finds that local livelihoods play a central role in local responses to the changes that transfrontier conservation bring upon people's lives. Many see further exclusion, while some also see and hope for a restoration of the socio-cultural border region. The globally significant biodiversity - to be conserved for 'future generations' - at the same time constitutes the natural resources that sustain local people's livelihoods. Further, local livelihoods are more diverse than is commonly acknowledged in literature advocating for transfrontier conservation. This lack of acknowledgement of local diversification contributes to the main observation made in this study: that current processes of transfrontier conservation end up replicating and re-inventing the multiple forms of exclusion that have characterised state conservation practices for over a century. While transfrontier conservation enables the freer movement of wildlife, it in fact further constrains the movements of people whose mobility within less closely controlled border regions remains centrally important to survival. At the same time, state actors come into the area with contradicting and conflicting demands ranging from the beneficial advocacy role for land rights to the enforcement of conservation through fences and game rangers, experienced as a direct infringement on livelihood possibilities. The study concludes that there is a need to rethink transfrontier conservation interventions. The diversity of local livelihood approaches needs to be considered more centrally and clearer understanding needs to be developed of how the promises of opportunities, betterment of lives and increased human mobility actually unfold in practice. In order to succeed and deliver on site - not only to high-class tourists seeking to view unique biodiversity but to local people - transfrontier conservation efforts need to engage multiple actors directly from the ground up and throughout the process of policy-making, programme conceptualisation and implementation. / South Africa

Envishet, ekonomiskt, klurigt, jordnära, arbetsam och…? : Diskursanalys angående föreställningar om regionala skillnader / Stubbornness, economically, tricky, down to earth, industrious and…? : Discourse analysis on representations of regional differences

Karlsson, Michelle, Rydberg, Johanna January 2017 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose with our study is to make an example of how discourses about leadership and entrepreneurship can be expressed in the everyday life of a company in the Swedish landscape Småland. Method: We have used an abductive and a qualitative research approach. In four days we shadowed the CEO Mr. Samuelsson from Grimslöv Skogstjänst AB.
