Syfte: Syftet med undersökningen är att studera om DN Debatt styr det ämnesmässiga innehållet på debattsidan, genom att jämföra refuserade artiklar med dem som blir publicerade. Teori: Undersökningen lyfter fram teorier inom områdena ”makten och dagordningen”, ”gatekeeping”, ”medielogik” och ”medialisering”. Metod: Kvantitativ innehållsanalys. Material: Samtliga artiklar som har skickats in till DN Debatt för att sedan refuseras eller publiceras under perioden 1 juni 2009 – 30 september 2009 och en intervju med debattchefen Bo G Andersson. Huvudresultat (Slutsatser): En påfallande god överensstämmelse kan ses i den procentuella fördelningen mellan ämnen som refuseras och ämnen som publiceras. Endast ämnet Ekonomiska frågor avviker och publiceras i något högre grad jämfört med hur stor del av de insända artiklarna som behandlar ämnet. Miljö-, folkrörelse- och allmänpolitiska frågor publiceras i något mindre grad jämfört med de artiklar som skickas in och behandlar dessa ämnen. DN Debatt styr inte det ämnesmässiga innehållet på ett sätt som gör att vissa ämnen hamnar i skuggan, eftersom samtliga insända ämnen når publicitet på debattsidan.Sociala frågor och vårdfrågor får mest utrymme på DN Debatt och det är också den ämnesgruppen som är störst räknat i antal insända artiklar. Majoriteten av skribenterna är män, men kvinnor blir i högre utsträckning publicerade än män, om man ser till hur många kvinnor som skickar in material.

<p>ABSTRACT</p><p>Purpose/Aim: This essay aims to investigate what picture (obvious and hidden) of men and womens equality in our society that is to be found on DN Debatt.</p><p>Material/Method: The material consists of 175 articles from DN Debatt during 2004. A content analysis and a rethoric analysis has then been used as a method of analysing the material.</p><p>Main results: Men are much more represented on DN Debatt then women. The underlying picture of men and women that is presented sees men as being the ones who are in charge of all the important and “big” decisions and questions in our society. Women on the other hand are pictured as, although they have reached higher positions in society, the ones who to a high degree focus on closer and more socially important issues. Debattsidan i Dagens Nyheter har sedan 1980-talet varit en av Sveriges viktigaste opinionsbildare, och den fyller en värdefull funktion för fri åsiktsbildning i en väl fungerande demokrati. Denna studie fokuserar på hur debattsidan förändrats under de senaste 25 åren med utgångspunkt i kön (vem får oftast komma till tals på debattsidan, kvinnor eller män? – och hur har könsfördelningen utvecklats sedan 1980- talet?) och roll (exempelvis politiker, chefer och forskare). Vi har gjort en kvantitativ undersökning med början första helåret som DN Debatt hade en egen sida i tidningen, 1985, fram till 2010. Med hjälp av konstruerade veckor har sju dagar per år slumpmässigt valts ut. Resultaten visar att av våra författare (n = 498) är 75,3 procent av de undersökta författarna män, och 24,7 procent är kvinnor. Skillnaden mellan kvinnor och män minskar. Politiker är den största yrkesgruppen, och andelen politiker ökar ytterligare. Forskarna har legat på en relativt jämn nivå medan företagen publiceras på DN Debatt i allt högre grad. / The daily discussion feature ”DN Debatt” within the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter has been one of the country’s most influencial opinion formers since the 1980’s. With the starting point in theories within media and communication, we hade studied this important institution with focus on how the gender distribution and the authors’ professional roles – for example politicians, researchers and journalists – have changed over the last 25 years. The results show that of our total population of authors (n = 498), 75,3 percent are men and 24,7 percent are women. The difference between men and women is decreasing. The professional roles that dominate our study are politicians, followed by researchers, journalists, CEOs and other representatives from companies, authorities and organizations. The ”common man” without some kind of established professional role is not published on DN Debatt.

This study intends to examine the impact of a well known debate page in one of Sweden’s biggest newspapers, Dagens Nyheter. We have done this by analysing Ekot, Aktuellt, Göteborgs Posten and Västerbottens-Kuriren to see to what extent they “take” news from the debate page. The method used was content analysis and to describe some of our thoughts about how we placed the hits in different categories we chose eight of our hits to exemplify. The material from the newspapers, radio and television was examined to discover the potential impact from the debate page. To carry out this study we have mainly used theories about how media get influenced by each other’s news and how they do follow-ups and refer to the original media. Other theories of importance for our study are for example those about what kinds of events that become news and how media influences people’s thoughts about what’s important. One of the most important conclusions we were able to draw after carrying out our study was that the debate page in Dagens Nyheter has quite a small impact on what our chosen media reported on. The biggest impact was found in the newspapers, whereas radio and television very seldom referred to the debate page. To sum up, one can absolutely say that the debate page in Dagens Nyheter is powerful and do have impact on other media, but an article published on the page is not automatically discussed and debated in other media during the day.
