nÃo hà / Este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar e analisar a questÃo da identidade e cultura de matriz africana por meio da obra do autor afro-caribenho e PrÃmio Nobel de Literatura em 1992, Derek Walcott, cuja obra ainda nÃo encontra no Brasil um estudo e divulgaÃÃo adequados. Com essa proposta, estamos cooperando com a lei no. 10.639/03 para a afirmaÃÃo do processo de consciÃncia negra por meio da busca de um processo identitÃrio que permeia os escritos do autor, analisando o entre-lugar do discurso do poeta e suas possÃveis influÃncias na produÃÃo de identidade e cultura no Brasil. Parte-se do pressuposto da pertinÃncia de se fazer uma reflexÃo sobre identidade e cultura como atos polÃticos, ao divulgar e expor a riqueza cultural afro ou afrodescendente sob uma nova Ãtica, recuperando o escravizado como sujeito de uma histÃria social, mostrando a infÃmia do escravismo e reforÃando as aÃÃes afirmativas no contexto brasileiro. O conhecimento e o estudo dessa literatura identitÃria pode contribuir tanto para a formaÃÃo de educadores como abrir caminhos para as Ãreas de filosofia da educaÃÃo brasileira pelo aprofundamento na cultura de base africana na diÃspora, servindo de aporte Ãs diversidades culturais. / The main purpose of this work is to analyze the thematic identity and culture of African basis through the work OMEROS written by the afro Caribbean writer and Literature Nobel Prize winner (1992), Derek Walcott. His work allows the focus to issues like the discussion of concepts such as identity and culture as political acts and artifacts of a good education, the affirmation of the process of black consciousness and the recovery of the enslaved one as the subject of a social history through post-colonial literature. The knowledge and study of this literature can contribute a great deal to the intellectual formation of educators as well as it may open paths to areas of philosophy of Brazilian education through the deepening in the culture of African basis during the Diaspora serving as a contribution to cultural diversity.

The Neo-baroque elements and figures serve as a framework for analyzing the poetic of a British filmmaker Derek Jarman, specifically scenes from the film Caravaggio, 1986. Jarman travels his works through the universe of Neo-baroque, being a constant in his filmography appreciation of the arts, for experimentation, controversy and the poetic construction supported by these baroque elements: the excess, chaos, multiplicity, drama, sexuality , intertextuality, etc.. Metaöverlevnad : Innebörden av att överleva teleportering / Meta-survival : The implications of surviving teleportation

What can be assumed to be a general understanding of personal identity, is that it is constituted by a fixed and unchanging core of every self-conscious being that remains the same over time. This view could be traced to the notion that a perfect copy of you would not be you since you constitute the original and not the copy. But maybe it's not that simple, maybe a copy of you can also be you, while existing as your "original"?In this essay I will explore a functionalist argument as well as a self-constructed thought experiment that challenges the traditional view of personal identity as a fixed and unchanging core, inextricably linked to a single body. This exploration will lead to the idea of "metasurvival". Metasurvival is understood as the possibility that a person can survive through another person. The idea of metasurvival thus challenges the dichotomy between life and death. / Vad som kan antas vara en allmän uppfattning om personlig identitet, är att den utgörs av en fast och oföränderlig kärna i varje självmedveten varelse som förblir densamma över tid. Denna uppfattning skulle kunna härledas till föreställningen att en perfekt kopia av dig inte skulle vara dig, eftersom du utgör originalet och inte kopian. Men kanske är det inte så enkelt, kanske kan en kopia av dig också vara dig, samtidigt som du existerar som ditt ”original”?I denna uppsats kommer jag att utforska ett funktionalistiskt argument, samt ett eget konstruerat tankeexperiment som ifrågasätter den traditionella synen på personlig identitet som en fast och oföränderlig kärna, oupplösligt knuten till en enskild kropp. Denna utforskning kommer att leda fram till idéen om ”metaöverlevnad”. Med metaöverlevnad förstås möjligheten att en person kan överleva genom en annan person. Idéen om metaöverlevnad utmanar därmed dikotomin mellan liv och död.

Comment peut-on concilier le respect des droits à la liberté des membres des générations futures et présentes ? Agir en faveur des premiers ne doit pas se faire aux dépens des seconds. Selon nous, la garantie pour tous de pouvoir développer et concevoir une conception spécifique de la vie bonne suppose de privilégier l'objectif d'une justice sociale globale dans le temps présent pour ainsi transmettre à la postérité un monde plus juste. Nous indiquons en premier lieu en quoi les générations qui se succèdent sur Terre ont des devoirs envers celles qui les suivront dans le temps, mais également pourquoi nos actes ne reflètent pas la reconnaissance de tels devoirs. Nous nous interrogeons ensuite sur le contenu du monde à transmettre en conformité avec ces devoirs. Il incombe aux générations de préserver autant que possible l'environnement naturel et d'édifier un environnement politique et social suffisant. Cela requiert la constitution d'une épargne intergénérationnelle au cours d'une phase limitée, suivie d'une phase de croisière dans laquelle l'accumulation doit être stoppée. Mais les efforts pour cette épargne et les ressources générées par celle-ci sont à répartir équitablement au sein et entre les générations : ce point est l'objet de notre troisième partie. Nous montrons que les efforts demandés à chacun au sein de la phase d'accumulation devraient dépendre de l'environnement dont disposent les individus, tandis que les ressources produites sont à redistribuer en priorité aux contemporains les plus démunis. We show first how the succeeding generations on Earth have duties to those who follow in time, but also why our acts do not reflect the recognition of such duties. Then we wonder about the content of the World to transmit in compliance with these duties. Generations bear the responsibility to preserve as much as possible the natural environment and to edify a sufficient political and social environment. This requires the constitution of an intergenerational savings during a limited phase, followed by a steady-state phase in which the accumulation must be stopped. But efforts to the savings and resources generated by it have to be distributed fairly within and between generations: this is the subject of our third part. We show that efforts required to everyone during the accumulation phase should depend on the environment available to individuals, while produced resources have to be redistributed primarily to the most disadvantaged contemporaries. Such a social time preference does not run counter the rights of future individuals: it allows instead to limit the perpetuation of intra-generational inequalities from generation to generation and to promote the respect of their rights by individuals living at the present time.

Mirror of desire: black dramatic representations of the Haitian revolution

This thesis analyzes three of the plays inspired by the Haitian Revolution and written by black playwrights. The first chapter covers William Edgar Easton’s Dessalines, a Dramatic Tale: A Single Chapter from Haiti’s History. It discusses Easton’s decision to depict Dessalines as a man of faith, a believer, a Christian. The second chapter employs Langston Hughes’ play, Troubled Island, to argue Dessalines’ modernity. The third play, by Saint Lucian playwright Derek Walcott, is The Haitian Earth. The thesis concludes with a brief discussion of his play and its contribution to black consciousness. Surmounting Trade Barriers: American Protectionism and the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement

This thesis examines US protectionism in the 1980s from Canadian and American perspectives, and its role in Canada’s pursuit of the historic 1988 Canada-US Free Trade Agreement. It analyzes the perceived “threat” of protectionism and evaluates the agreement’s provisions against Canada’s goal of securing access to the US market. It contends that US protectionism was crucial in the Mulroney government’s decision to negotiate a bilateral agreement and was a contentious issue for the agreement’s critics. US sources, unexamined in existing historiography, confirm the increased threat of American protectionism, but emphasize a distinction between the threat and implementation of protectionist trade law. Although the agreement did not shield Canada from US trade remedies, Canada gained important presence in the trade dispute process. These conclusions are drawn from Canadian and American media and government documents, 1980s academic and think-tank commentary, legal documents, the memoirs and diaries of major players, and select archival sources.
