Think Basic – Think Big: Oder: Warum es sich lohnt, Fragen zu stellen.

Fiedler, Martin, Rost, David, Zichner, Marco January 2012 (has links)

Skolans mellanrum / Learning environments and the spaces in between

Chen, Lisa January 2021 (has links)
My thesis project aims to investigate school architecture and specifically the spaces in between the learning environment which usually goes by the terms "circulation area" or "social areas" in a school. The school is a complex composition of priorities, intentions, and ideas about learning. In Sweden, we have something called compulsory schooling, which means that children covered by it must go to school and participate in the activities that are organized there. In other words, a school is a place where the main user group - the students don't always get to choose their environment. Studies also show that bullying is more common in spaces outside the classroom, i.e. in the schoolyard, in the corridors, or the social spaces where the students are when they're not in class. This says something about the priority these spaces are given in the planning process. The ambition has been to design a cohesive school that promotes movement, curiosity, and social interaction in the circulation spaces by having clear nodes for integration. The teacher and staff spaces are placed strategically along the main circulation space to promote a sense of security through the presence of adults. The project is situated in the southern part of Stockholm and has great qualities in terms of access to nature. The character of the location has inspired both the placement of the school as well as the exterior and interior design and organization.

Using "Social Scriptures" as a Tool for Gospel Learning and Sharing

Sharp, Cahlan A. 19 March 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This paper summarizes a design project entitled "Social Scriptures" completed for the AudioVisual Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The Church). The purpose of the design project was to prototype a web-based computer application that could be used by Church members to study the scriptures in an online social context. Originally, the project was designed to be a part of the Facebook Application Platform in order to leverage both the extensive existing social connections of Church members as well as deliver the application in a setting where many Church members already spend a good deal of their time. Through the cyclic design processes of feedback and evaluation, the project was later generalized to not necessarily depend on the Facebook Platform, but rather create a system from the existing member account information coupled with scriptural content that can function inside of a social network or on its own. The evolution of the design process towards using a rapid prototyping methodology allowed for quick revisions, lower stakes testing, and more overall flexibility in the design. The various stages of the design process, including revisions and prototypes, are shown and discussed in this paper.

Applying the Principles of Project Management to a Collegiate Automotive Engineering Design Project

Dvorkin, William Nathan 08 June 2016 (has links)
The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team of Virginia Tech is a collegiate automotive engineering design team that reengineers production vehicles to reduce environmental impact while maintaining vehicle marketability. The team Project Manager is responsible for coordinating high-level management and planning activities with the goal of better aligning the team with business and automotive industry practices. Project management responsibilities within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team are divided into four categories: human resource management, schedule management, cost management, and risk management. This document outlines how project management strategies were researched and adapted from industry practices for use by the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team in achieving its goals. The human resource management strategy adopts onboarding principles that better prepare new students to become effective team members. By restructuring the organization and incorporating onboarding strategies, annual turnover is reduced from 71% to 44%. The decrease in turnover is enabled by the successful creation of an independent study program which trains newcomers to become effective team members. The program can be improved for the future by further developing the curriculum. The employed schedule management strategy develops the project schedule iteratively as technical information reveals itself through task progress. Utilizing this process makes schedule management possible in an environment with incomplete information and pressing deadlines. This strategy experienced limited success due to the lack of team and project scheduling experience on behalf of several key members of the process. The cost management strategy is designed to gather detailed financial data to perform an earned-value analysis and create improved budgets. By understanding income and expense patterns, the Project Manager can create economic forecasts to determine the economic viability of the team. The strategy was successfully implemented and allowed the team to gather valuable financial data. The risk management strategy identifies and quantifies technical risks associated with vehicle development. By focusing more resources on high-risk activities, the team can improve preparation for competition where the vehicle is judged according engineering quality and build progress. The strategy was successful because it identified critical hazards to the project schedule and scope, but can be improved by broadening the process to account for a wider variety of risks. / Master of Science

Interpretation And Presentation Of Natural And Cultural Heritage Sites: Environmental Design Project For Goreme Open Air Museum

Ozcakir, Ozgun 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The main subject of the thesis is &ldquo / interpretation&rdquo / and &ldquo / presentation&rdquo / of cultural and natural heritage sites which is an important phenomenon providing sustainability and protection of the heritage sites. Interpretation and conservation are tightly associated to each other. Individuals will learn more about the heritage site by the help of interpretation and as a result of understanding / they will have an intention to protect the historic site more / and protection will ensure continuity of the site. Interpretation and presentation of heritage sites is put into the words in Turkish Legislation by the definition of &ldquo / Environmental Design Project&rdquo / in `Amendment Act No. 5226 Concerning to Revision of Legislation Called as Law Concerning to Conservation of Natural and Cultural Entities` in 2004. In the legislation, it is stated that Environmental Design Projects which propose strategies for effective presentation, control visitor use, provide promotion and advertisement, solve problems emerged as a result of current use and circulation and answer the needs of historic sites by contemporary tools and methods must be prepared for each heritage site in Turkey. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to define principles for effective interpretation and presentation on the selected case according to analysis and evaluations and then propose brand new comprehensive and complementary Environmental Design Project. The case selected in the thesis for the proposition of Environmental Design Project is G&ouml / reme Open Air Museum &ndash / GOAM in Cappadocia which is Turkey&rsquo / s third most visited open air museum after Ephesus in Izmir and Hierapolis in Denizli. The two main reasons for the selection of GOAM are absence of comprehensive and complementary Environmental Design Project in GOAM and insufficiency of current interpretive facilities and visitor services presented in the museum as indicated in the decisions of Nevsehir Regional Council for Conservation of Cultural Entities. Focusing on the aim, thesis is structured in three parts which are interconnected to each other as the theoretical background of the interpretation and presentation in the world and in Turkish legislations, analysis and evaluation of the selected case and finally preliminary decisions and project proposal. To conclude, &ldquo / Environmental Design Project&rdquo / is an important tool for understanding the significance of the museum and providing easygoing and enjoyable visit for the museum visitors according to the values, problems and potentials of GOAM. In that respect, proposing environmental design project is critical in order to satisfy visitor needs during their museum visit and provide safeguarding of GOAM.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Marcelo José Oliveira de Farias.pdf: 52680541 bytes, checksum: 4f867136a9456d7cc8df5aeb0b6cfb04 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-06-19 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Design is a creative, projective and strategic activity aimed at offering the best adaptation and interaction of the human being with himself, with others and with the world. A interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary area of knowledge that integrates both theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as concrete and abstract concepts, by means of projects, which involve processes of observation, imagination, analysis, configuration and representation, intended to develop technical and formal solutions to enable its production, commercialization and use. Design teaching means the context in which the construction of this way of thinking is build up. From this premise comes the restlessness and central issue that moves and drives this scientific research within the program of postgraduate studies in communication and semiotics: "How does a design project interact with the student's actions in their creative strategies in network strategies in the domain of education?" Therefore, the empirical object that emerges from this dynamic between the variable and the invariable of the question are the interactions and connections between the design project and the student's projective activities in their creative networked strategies. In order to develop this research, we defined the case-exploratory and ethnographic study based on the observation and analysis of two undergraduate design courses located in the city of São Paulo: design course at the University of São Paulo / USP and design course of University Senac, through observation in the classroom, recording of the creation process documents and interviews with teachers of design and other correlated subject areas. The set objectives are to understand the paradigmatic, detonating, organizing, directional and communicational aspects of creation, which activate thought and act as lines of forces, establishing unstable connections and interconnections through dialogues and interlocutions that produce interactions, influences, mutual exchanges and shared, between elements and individuals, making arise and unleash the maneuvers and articulations of thought in the process of creation / Design é uma atividade de natureza criativa, projetual e estratégica, orientada para oferecer a melhor adequação e interação do ser humano consigo, com o outro e com o mundo.

[pt] DESENHANDO O PROCESSO: UMA PRÁTICA PEDAGÓGICA PARA O EXERCÍCIO DA REFLEXÃO CRÍTICA SOBRE PROJETO DE DESIGN / [en] DRAWING THE PROCESS: AN EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE TO DEVELOP CRITICAL THINKING ON DESIGN

NINA ATALLA PIETROLUONGO O VIEIRA 22 July 2021 (has links)
[en] This exploratory research aimed to develop a pedagogical tool oriented to teaching of design projects. The research arises from the importance of design methodology, as a structuring content of the empirical design practice, and from the need to encourage critical reasoning on design processes observed in PUC-Rio s design graduation course. To deal with these questions, a drawing exercise – in which the student s task was to draw the process of their design project – was developed and tested with two students in two different disciplines from the Design course at PUC-Rio. The investigation was supported by authors, who dealt with the cognitive processes of learning and also on the cognitive flow of reflection-in-action, a key notion of this research. The activity proved to be a rich educational tool to stimulate critical thinking about the practice of design, as it facilitated an exercise of self-analysis and gave students the pedagogical conditions to recognize and organize their empirical experiences during the course.
