#StuFoExpo: Studentische Forschung

04 November 2022 (has links)
Have your studies been excellent, but you have the impression that no one has noticed? Student research is an important part of studying at a university. Students unearth important findings as research assistants or members of a university group and present them in seminar papers, final theses or internship reports. Unfortunately, most of these student research papers go unnoticed. Final theses often get thrown into a drawer and forgotten or are buried deep on a hard drive after they have been assessed.

Supplementary tuition in Mathematics: exploring the industry in the Eastern Cape

Coetzee, J. 30 November 2008 (has links)
This study explored and evaluated the prevalence of supplementary tuition in the teaching and learning of Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy in some high-performing schools of the East London district in the Eastern Cape. The study followed a descriptive survey design to address the research problem. Data were gathered using questionnaires for grade 11 learners and high school Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy teachers. The learners were the first group to be taught the Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy learning programme of the new National Curriculum Statement (NCS). The results showed that a fair number of learners (about 48%) were not satisfied with their performance in Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy and a large number of the learners (about 90%) considered a good pass in Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy as important, particularly for their future careers. A substantial proportion of learners (42%) expressed concern about the amount of school time allocated to Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy, and thought that this factor hampered the successful completion of the syllabus. Teachers who happened to be adequately qualified and experienced enough, struggled to complete the Grade 11 Mathematics syllabus in time and were concerned about misconceptions carried from lower classes. Teachers also expressed some concern about learners' lack of commitment to Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy. Learners seemingly took supplementary tuition as a way of overcoming their learning challenges. Of the three forms of supplementary tuition (i.e. private tuition, vacation classes and revising model/former examination papers) commonly available in the district, revising examination papers was preferred (about 83%) followed by private tuition at 81% and lastly vacation school. Learners spent 1.67 hours per week on average on supplementary tuition. More Mathematics learners (about 34%) than Mathematical Literacy learners (about 6%) make use of supplementary tuition. Based on these findings, it was concluded that supplementary tuition is not unique to schools that perform poorly, and even at high performing schools, factors exist which influence learners to take supplementary tuition. / MATH, SCIENCE & TECH EDU / MSC (MATHS,SCIENCE OR T/EDU)

A study of the Arundel Society 1848-1897

Ledger, Tanya January 1978 (has links)
This thesis gives, for the first time, a clear exposition of the activities of the Arundel Society (1848-1897). Founded to 'collect diligently and with discrimination the highest and best examples of Art and to bring them before hundreds of English minds' the presence of Aubrey Bezzi, Lord Lindsay, Edmund Oldfield, Samuel Rogers and John Ruskin on the Society's first council meant that the initial publication of engravings after two early Italian artists, Fra Angelico and Giotto, was unsurprising. After 1856, under the guidance of Henry Layard, the archaeologist and politician, the Society became even more firmly committed to copying and publishing frescoes of the early Renaissance. The council's aim in recording and publishing these endangered works of art was to educate the taste of the public and inspire artists to embark on programmes of mural decoration. The water-colours executed for the Society are discussed with particular reference to the reactions of the council, and of members and the press to the problem of their verisimilitude. About two-thirds of these copies were published as chromolithographs and the gains and liabilities of this initially very popular method of reproduction are examined. Other methods employed by the Society to publish fac-similies of classical and medieval ivories and reduced copies of the Elgin marbles are also discussed with general reference to Victorian attitudes towards reproductions. The penultimate chapter attempts to relate the prints and monographs published by the Society to the art historical scholarship of the period. It is shown that the council's publication of decorative quattrocento, provincial cinquecento and early Flemish and German artists was influenced by Henry Layard's preferences. His monographs for the Society are discussed and compared with the more scholarly, if diverse, contributions made by, among others, G. W. Kitchin, John Ruskin, George Scharf and Ralph Wornum. In the final chapter it is argued that the Society's loyalty to the tastes of the mid-century and to the process of chromolithography led to its dissolution.

Historie vydávání novin na Trutnovsku od poloviny 19. století do r. 1938 / History of german newspaper issue in the region of Trutnov from middle of 19th century till 1938

Rennerová, Zuzana January 2012 (has links)
The dissertation "History of newspaper publishing in Trutnov County between the second half of 19th century until 1938" is focused on the development of written journalism in Trutnov region since 1948 till the Munich Conference (29th - 30/9/1938). The thesis also reflects the period's wider theoretic and socio-historic context. Due to demographic characteristics of the region the dissertation also considers the issue of Czech-German coexistence and the changes in the mutual relationship among these nations in the border area. The dissertation also includes picture references taken from chosen newspapers. The reason for this is to give the reader a notion of the period regional newspapers.

Evolution of my subject matter knowledge for teaching energy resources and its uses in Grade 11 : self study.

Khumalo, Maureen K. 24 July 2013 (has links)
The implementation of a new curriculum is a challenging issue to educators in many countries. In this country training for an implementation of a curriculum is done in one week and it takes a form of one a size fits all. The study investigated how I transform my content knowledge when teaching a new topic in the new curriculum. The aim of this study was to carry a self- study of how I transformed my content knowledge when teaching energy resources and its uses to make it comprehensible to learners. The following research question guided the study:  How did my PCK develop as I developed the broad content of the energy resources and its uses into focused, teachable and comprehensible content?  How did my planning and reflecting on practice change as I participated in the process of planning, developing and implementing the lesson plans? When teachers teach, they draw upon knowledge of their subject matter, general pedagogy as well as context. This could be improved by the contribution of the concept of pedagogical content knowledge where content and pedagogy are blended. Therefore, for this study I have chosen PCK as a theoretical framework because I will be looking at how my content knowledge can be transformed into content knowledge for teaching. The study employed a qualitative research, which uses multiple realities that are socially constructed through collective and individual definitions of the situations. It is a self –study focusing on my own teaching and intending to improve my practice as a teacher. The focus is myself teaching two grade 11 classes in a township school. Khumalo M. iv Data was collected in a form of concept maps, reflective journals, lesson plan and CoRE s and PaPeRs. CoRes and PaPe-Rs were used to capture and portray my PCK. The methodological tools used to document and portray my Pedagogical Content Knowledge when teaching energy and resources, used representations called Content Representation (CoRe) and Pedagogical and Professional – experience Repertoires (PaP-eRs). The CoRe elaborated on my construction of content, which framed the topic and each Pa-PeR, was a narrative derived from the classroom observations and the journal. Findings in this study indicate that using the CoRe and PaPeR as a tool to portray PCK helps in the development of content knowledge. Some elements of PCK could be identified and the implementation of developed lessons led to insight into my teaching. Learners participated more freely and develop confidence when home language was used. I gained confidence using the CoRe to develop lessons.

Dinâmica das relações entre Ciência e Tecnologia: estudo Bibliométrico e Cientométrico de múltiplos indicadores de artigos e patentes em biodiesel / Dynamics of the connection between science and technology: a study bibliometric and scientometric of multiple indicators of papers and patents in biodiesel.

Maricato, João de Melo 22 October 2010 (has links)
This study analyses linkages between the Scientific Production (papers) and Technological Production (patents) in biodiesel, using bibliometric and scientometric methods and techniques, investigating interactions between Science and Technology (S&T). Objective: To understand the dynamics of the interactions between S&T in biodiesel and investigate the potential contribution of Bibliometric and Scientometric for combined analysis of Scientific Production (articles) and Technological Production (patents) indicators. Method: Recovery of scientific papers in SciELO and SCIs databases and patent documents of DII related to biodiesel, covering the period between 2000 and 2007. Construction of multiple scientometric and bibliometric indicators (productivity, subjects, raw materials, collaborative activities, citations) segmenting them by countries, organizations and their typologies: Education Institutions and Public Research Institutes (EIPRIs) and Companies and Private Research Institutes (CPRIs). Isolated analysis of Scientific Production and Technological Production, just as well as a proposal of integrated analysis of both. Results: 885 papers were published and 612 patents were registered in the period. Using isolated analysis of each of the productions it was able to identify connections between S&T. About Scientific Production, it was found that 13% of CPRIs organizations have published papers; all subjects that occur in EIPRIs papers also occur in CPRIs papers; 32% of raw materials occur in both types of organizations; there were 6.9% of articles published by only CPRIs and 10.5% articles published in collaboration between CPRIs and EIPRs. About Technological Production, it was found that 20.5% of EIPRIs organizations registered patents; 8 of 16 subjects found in CPRIs also occur in EIPRIs; 70% of the raw materials were found in both types of organizations (EIPRs and CPRIs); there were 28.1% of patents registered by only EIPRs and 1.3% patents registered in collaboration between CPRIs and EIPRs. With the integrated analysis of the linkage between of Scientific Production and Technological Production, it was found that 80% of the countries co-occur in both productions, with a strong positive correlation between them (0.832); 7% of organizations have both published papers and patents registered, which are more productive than the organizations that participated individually in one or other production; there is a strong positive correlation (0,918) among the subjects of each production, with higher productivity of coactive subjects (94% of the production of article and patents are inter related through the subjects); 37% of raw materials coincide (co-occur in both productions) with positive correlation by average to strong between them (0.677), in addition to higher productivity among the coactive; given the relatively low dynamic collaborative, especially in the technological production, it was not identified relations between the productions; co-occurrence in 14% of scientific journals where biodiesel articles were published and scientific journals cited in patents (co-occurrence of journal titles), being the coactive journals more productive than those that occur in either production alone. Conclusion: It is possible to compare Scientific Production and Technological Production using the same bibliometric and scientometric methods and techniques, and establish connection among different productions, through the integrated analysis of multiple indicators. Except for the joint analysis of collaborative activities among the productions and, partly, of their subjects, bibliometric and scientometric indicators showed great potential for the establishment of relations between S&T.
