A facial recognition application for elderly care : Caregiver verification and identificationMartikainen, Katariina, Said, Kewser January 2018 (has links)
Interest in facial recognition has increased rapidly during the past decade. Increased computational power and huge amounts of available data have made facial recognition both possible and useful. Bio-metrical identification is one of the common applications for facial recognition. The population in Sweden is aging. Moreover, many people remain living on their own until old age. This introduces new challenges to society. How do we maintain the autonomy of elderly, and support their well-being despite of the challenges introduced by aging? This thesis presents a study of the potential of facial recognition in elderly care. In the thesis work a need for facial recognition system in elderly care is identified, a system architecture to meet the need is presented, the implementation process of such system’s prototype is described, and the feasibility of the prototype is evaluated. One of the results of the study indicates that there is a need in elderly care to help seniors to verify and identify caregivers who visit them. The study shows that a facial recognition system which presents information about the visiting caregiver to the elderly would support them in their daily life. The user interface of the developed prototype is feasible, but as it is now, the facial recognition part of the program is not accurate enough to be used in a real life context. Ways of improving the facial recognition functionality of such a system should be studied in future research.

The ideas of new public management in the reality of Swedish elderly care : A case study of the governing of elderly care in the municipality Arvika kommunNilsson, Ida January 2023 (has links)
This thesis examines how New public management has affected the governance of elderly care in Swedish municipalities. In recent years, the Swedish media, unions for people working in elderly care and other societal actors, have reported on flaws in both the working environment for the people working in elderly care and in the care that is provided to the elders. This thesis examines how the ideas behind the term New public management are implemented in a public organization that is facing a lot of challenges and therefore is struggling to deliver good quality services to the residents. This is done by an in depth analysis of the governance of the elderly care in a single Swedish municipality, Arvika kommun. This analysis also aims to explore the relationship between the challenges that the Swedish elderly care is facing and the implementation of reforms that are associated with the term New public management. The analysis is based on a model for ideal type analysis and the material that is analyzed consist of a policy document that describes the elderly care in Arvika kommun and transcribed interviews with four informants who are working as managers in the elderly care in Arvika kommun. The ideal types that have been constructed are based on the doctrines that Christopher Hood formulated as the content of the term New public management. The results from the analysis shows that the ideas behind the term New public management are implemented in the governing of the elderly care in Arvika kommun in a large number of ways. For example in the use of explicit standards and measures of performance, private sector styles of management and the disaggregation of units. The most prominent way in which the ideas behind the term New public management are implemented in the governing of the elderly care is in the focus on discipline and parsimony in resource use which is something that affects the whole organization. Like some of the previous studies that examine New public management in relation to Swedish elderly care, this thesis also presents the result that there is a connection between the challenges that the elderly care is facing and the implementation of reforms associated with New public management. New public managements focus on making everything more time- and cost effective gives the staff working in elderly care a more stressful working environment. The stressful working environment leads to people resigning and a staff shortage which in turn leads to a lower quality in the care that is provided to the elders.

Investigating The Impact and Privacy Alignment Of IoT Cybersecurity, in Sweden’s Elderly Care : From a user-centric perspectiveSandberg, Johannes January 2022 (has links)
There is a growing need for at-home healthcare and real-time monitoring in elderly care. The increase in elderly and chronically ill patients causes the need forhigh-demand services in healthcare. There is a lack of research regarding the elderly and technology in general. The Internet of Things provides several advantages and functionalities which could be applied to the healthcare domainand provide invaluable services. Healthcare revolves around confidential patient information which raises skepticism about the natural heterogenous devices and network infrastructure IoT relies upon in terms of security and privacy. This research aims to identify the impact of IoT and how privacy is included in the field of cybersecurity in Sweden's elderly care. Researchers, security experts, and IT departments may utilize the research to evaluate the advantages and issues of realizing IoT in elderly care. The research is based upon a systematic literature review, the data were acquired and collected using three different index services. The services were ACM digital library, IEEExplorer, and ScienceDirect. The acquired articles were then analyzed using thematic coding based on the user-centric aligned McCumber Cube framework. This provided relevant themes based on the framework and relevant articles to the research aim. In total, the review provided 47 articles, divided into three themes that connected nine categories. When the thematic coding had been applied, the study could provide feasible answers to the research aim. The study showed that privacy aligns with cybersecurity and personal information, it was barely accounted for in personal communication and behavior.

Hur beskrivs god äldreomsorg i enantologi med röster från personer mederfarenhet av äldreomsorgen? / How is good elderly care described in an anthology with voices from people with experience of elderly care?Jönsson Hurtig, Camilla January 2023 (has links)
The overall purpose of the essay is to, based on an anthology book with acollection of texts, reproduce voices from elderly care by describing carerelationships and what significance they can have for care recipients, care staffand the quality of the work. A second purpose of the thesis is to describe howworking conditions can affect the quality of the care relationship and the carework. When my idea was to write about care relationships and working conditionsin elderly care, I chose to start from some form of reality-based book with storiesbased on care staff and / or care recipients. The choice of empirical data landed inan anthology book consisting of thirty-five reality-based stories of experiencesand concrete knowledge about elderly care. The stories constitute the authors' ownperspectives and experience of elderly care. The stories reflect both urban andrural areas, as well as positive and negative experiences. The authors of theanthology are as numerous as the stories and consist of relatives who tell abouttheir mothers, thus mostly daughters, assistant nurses, care staff, who tell abouttheir work either in home care or in nursing homes. The theoretical frames ofreference I have used to gain an understanding of my results are relational theory, coping and Maslow's description of a pathogenic approach. As an analysismethod, I chose to use a thematic analysis. The method takes into account partly avisible content but also an implicit content, which I thought was appropriate basedon my empirical data. The results and analysis part show that the importance ofthe care relationship between staff and care recipients is a fundamental factor forgood quality care. The care staff strives to create good and meaningful carerelationships with the care recipients, which generates a good quality of care.Furthermore, it appears that the working conditions with its control instrumentsthat are implemented affect the quality of care and generate an inadequacy of thecare staff.

Tidmätning i omsorgsarbete : En kvalitativ studie om hur hemtjänstpersonal upplever digitala tidmätningssystemAguilar, Daniela, Toukabri, Neila January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study has been to explore how home care workers experience the use of ICT (that is, digital systems for time registration) in their work. The data collection took place through qualitative semi-structured interviews of seven home care employees in two different Swedish municipalities in Stockholm. Furthermore, a thematic analysis was performed by transcribing the interviews and trying to find common patterns or themes. The interviewees statements have been analyzed using two different theories: the role theory and Davies' (1994) theory of clock time and process time. The results show that the home care staff experience that the use of ICT leads to time pressure and stress during the working day. It also appears that the home care staff may experience the time registration system as a control function or monitoring method on them and their work. Other interviewees, on the other hand, describes that the registration of time contributes to increased security for both home care staff and the elderly care recipient. Finally, the results show that ICT is considered to contribute to an efficient and flexible home service work.

Gasa eller bromsa? Digitala välfärdsteknikens framfart i äldreomsorgen : En Kvalitativ studie i Askersund kommun och Örebro kommunAfram, George, Akbari, Mohsen January 2024 (has links)
This essay conducts a qualitative analysis of the integration and challenges of digital welfare technology in elderly care within Askersund and Orebro municipalities in Sweden. This study is timely and significant due to the rapid demographic shifts in Sweden, particularly the projected increase in the elderly population, emphasizing an urgent need for adaptive measures in the welfare sector. Central to this essay is the exploration of how these two municipalities navigate the complexities of integrating digital welfare technology into their elderly care services. The study uses Talbot's model to understand the dynamics of public and process interests in implementing such technology. This theoretical approach allows for an in depth examination of how each municipality, with their unique demographic, organizational and responds to the implementation challenges. Key aspects of this study include examining the readiness and response of elderly individuals to digital welfare technology, the challenges faced by healthcare personnel due to knowledge gaps, and the broader societal implications of these technological advancements. The essay also delves into the ethical considerations and the need for balance between technological efficiency and the quality of human-centered care. The findings highlight the diverse strategies employed by Askersund and Orebro and the challenges encountered in the process. The study contributes to a broader understanding of digital welfare technology in elderly care, emphasizing the importance of competency development, ethical deployment of technology, and the impact of regulatory and strategic guidelines from higher authorities.

Weave me through a dream : How can textile craft, specifically tapestry weaving, help create a more creative environment when caring for elders with dementia, and what benefits could come from that?Rådenman, Nanny January 2024 (has links)
In the project Weave me through a dream I explore how textile craft, specifically tapestry weaving, can help create a more creative environment when caring for elders with dementia, and what the benefits with this can be. The research was done in collaboration with a nursing home in Stockholm, where I previously worked as a care assistant. This paper discusses and examines gathered research material combined with experiences from the care assistant job. In the process the project transformed from the therapeutic aspect of craft towards caring through craft in social engagement. The exhibited physical work is an interpretation of interactions at the nursing home. The tapestry can be used as discussion material concerning dementia care. My research concludes that weaving in dementia care was beneficial for the residents I met. My conclusion is also that a more creative environment within dementia care can strengthen staff and relatives affecting the residents in a positive way. The project Weave me through a dream hopes to open up the image of dementia and strengthen the relationship between residents, staff and relatives through creative care.
