Welche Kompetenz hat Wissenschaftsphilosophie?Herrmann, Kay January 2012 (has links)
Many prominent scientists have pointed out that philosophy is of no benefit to science. Stephen Hawking asserts: Philosophy is dead!
Sciences use conceptions like natural laws, matter, nature, theories, etc. But science is also confronted with questions such as: "What is a natural law?" "What is nature?" "What is matter?" and "What is a scientific theory?" These (metatheoretical) questions exceed the sphere of competence of science – they are items of the philosophy of science. Philosophy of science is a metatheory of science. The Philosophy of science overlaps epistemology, ontology, and metaphysics by exploring whether scientific results are true, or whether entities like quarks or electrons really exist. More detailed investigations bring various questions into consideration such as: "How do we define the boundaries between different scientific disciplines?" "Is there a relation between the beauty and the truth of a scientific theory?" and "How do we distinguish between science and pseudoscience?" Additionally, the philosophy of science is concerned with ethical problems of modern technology, with the methodological questions, with the reconstruction of the structure and the development of scientific theories, and with revealing of any indoctrination of science.
The optimistic conclusion of this paper is: Philosophy is still alive – but the philosopher has to participate in round-table discussions with scientists. We just want philosophers talking to scientists!:I. Über die Kompetenz und Inkompetenz von Philosophie 09

Towards Transparency and Open Science / A Principled Perspective on Computational Reproducibility and PreregistrationPeikert, Aaron 17 October 2023 (has links)
Psychology and other empirical sciences are in the middle of a crisis, as many researchers have become aware that many findings do not have as much empirical support as they once believed.
Several causes of this crisis have been suggested: misuse of statistical methods, sociological biases, and weak theories.
This dissertation proposes the following rationale: to some extent, imprecise theories are unavoidable, but they still can be subjected to an empirical test by employing induction.
Data may be used to amend theories, allowing precise predictions that can be compared to reality.
However, such a strategy comes at a cost.
While induction is necessary, it causes overconfidence in empirical findings.
When assessing findings, this overconfidence must be taken into account.
The extent of the overconfidence depends on the properties of the inductive process.
Some inductive processes can be made fully transparent, so their bias can be accounted for appropriately.
I show that this is the case for induction that can be repeated at will on other data, highlighting the importance of computational reproducibility.
Induction involving the researcher and their cognitive model can not be repeated; hence, the extent of overconfidence must be judged with uncertainty.
I propose that reducing this uncertainty should be the objective of preregistration.
Having explicated the goals of computational reproducibility and preregistration from a perspective of transparency about induction in the synopsis, I put forward recommendations for the practice of both in the articles published as part of this dissertation.

Der platonische NietzscheCardoso, Jesus Martin 04 June 2012 (has links)
By claiming that his philosophy should be understood as “inverted Platonism” Nietzsche defined his relationship to the Platonic system. This research project aims to articulate a new understanding of this relationship by analyzing philosophical similarities between the two authors'' respective philosophies. The first chapter is dedicated to the explanation of the term “inverted Platonism” and articulates the differences between Plato''s and Nietzsche''s systems. These discrepancies are manifested in four main areas: the metaphysical, the axiological, the gnosiological and the aesthetic. The second chapter deals with the roles of the Apollonian and the Dionysian in Nietzschean theory. Both concepts are compared with the Platonic Eros, as they invite man to abandon the sensual world and instead to commune with the very origin of reality. The third chapter analyzes Plato´s denunciation of art in “The Republic”. The Greek philosopher seeks true knowledge and connects his aesthetic concerns with the idea of Truth. Nietzsche refers to the cynosure between aesthetics and cognitive theory as “amor fati”. The fourth chapter is dedicated to the physiology of love. Nietzsche transforms the cognitive process into a passionate love. Cognition assumes the shape of passion, slowly crystallizing over time, with many twists and turns, into “amor fati”. “Amor fati” aestheticizes cognition and epistemologizes aesthetics. Therefore Nietzsche''s cognitive theory is actually equivalent to that of Plato.

Missio Dei her zu verstehen sei.
erarbeitet / This dissertation examines the relationship between theological education and missionary challenges
in German-speaking Europe. The central research question is what the changing context and related
missionary challenges of the church signify for a reform of theological training. Voices from an
ecumenical and evangelical perspective are demanding a reform of theological education towards a
missional approach, an approach defined in its identity as well as its function from the Missio Dei. The
following study pursues the question as to what such demands entail and what implications follow for
theological education in general.
The first part presents the ecumenical, evangelical and evangelic impulse towards a reform of theological
education and a link with missionary challenges; theoretic sensibilities and key categories are
developed for the empirical examination. The main section of the study examines the abovementioned
question through a qualitative-empirical study of the leadership of evangelical theological
educational establishments in German-speaking Europe. With the help of half-standardised interviews
of experts, four action samples were presented as possible reactions, according to grounded theory and
by means of typology development. Finally, the results of the empirical examination were evaluated in
the light of the literature and a missional-empirical evaluation was made regarding the theology, the
learning theory and the competence orientation of a missional-theological education.
This dissertation thus makes a threefold contribution. Firstly, it constitutes ecumenical, evangelical
and evangelic contributions and an empirically developed plan of action on the theme of the reform of
theological education in light of missionary challenges. Secondly, it offers a contribution from a missional-
empirical perspective to the discussion of a possible reform of theological education. Thirdly, it
develops a concrete impetus towards the theology, learning theory and competence orientation of a
missional theological education in the German-speaking context / Practical Theology / D. Th. (Missiology)
