Ondersoek na en evaluering van die opvoedingsrol van die vader : 'n studie in tydsperspektiefVan As, Karen Helen 10 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / In this dissertation an attempt has been made to study the past and in
particular the basic cultures of Western civilization (the ancient
Israelites, ancient Greeks, Romans and early Christians) in order to
investigate the educational role of the father.
In an examination of the past from a historic pedagogical perspective,
an endeavour has been made to compare the educational role of the
father during the ancient period to that of the father at present in
order to ascertain whether the past can possibly serve as "preceptor"
with regard to this contentious contemporary problem.
A chapter was devoted to each of the four aforementioned cultures in
which the father's educational role was disclosed. At the end of each
chapter a brief conclusion was reached pertaining to the field of
study.
In the last chapter a number of conclusions and recommendations with
regard to some of the factors which influenced the father's
educational role but which has immense significance for the
contemporary (as well as the future) period and consequently cannot be
ignored, were recorded. Matters such as the· father's educational
responsibility, religious/devout support, moral-ethical education,
vocational preparation and the implementation/enforcement of
punishment and discipline were discussed so that the present state of
affairs with regard to these factors could be evaluated and compared
to that of the past.
In
hierdie verband is aangeleenthede soos die vader se opvoedingsverantwoordel
ikheid, religieus/godsdienstige steungewing, moreelsedelike
opvoeding, beroepsvoorbereiding en die toepassing/handhawing
van tug en dissipline aan die orde gestel sodat die huidige toedrag
van sake met betrekking tot die genoemde faktore daarteen gespieel en
geevalueer kan word. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Historical Education)

The effects of migrant labour on the family systemMazibuko, Ronald Patrick 11 1900 (has links)
The migrant labour practice in South Africa played an important role in the country's development and economy. Although it has benefited many native migrant workers by creating job opportunities, it has had adverse effects on the families of migrant workers. The focus of this study is the phenomenon of migrant labouring and its effects on the family. A literature study has shown that migrant labourers, living in overcrowded city
hostels, were subjected to exploitation, malnutrition and crime. The empirical study brought to light the many problems experienced by the families back home: Wives were overburdened by dual roles and responsibilities, lack of support and money, children's development was impeded and academic motivations and performance were low.
The ultimate aim of this study was to design practical guidelines to help families cope with the effects of an absent father due to the migrant labour practice. / Psychology of Education / M. Ed.(Guidance and Counselling)

Problematika ukončení těhotenství / Issue of AbortionVáňa, Miroslav January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis is aimed at problems of abortion and simultaneously of a different view of theological and biological sciences that deal with these problems. Concurrently, it is necessary to offer an essential outline of basic embryological and medical processes which enable understanding the given problem in view of importance of this situation. On the one hand the thesis presents legal essentials related to the topic in a historical legal context, on the other hand it does not exclude contemporary trends. It regards the given problems through a point of view of various Christian churches as well as world religious streams. It refers to negative health consequences of miscarriage and induced abortion but in the same time it presents basic information about contraception and differentiation of contraceptive and interceptive means. The thesis also presents opinions of individual churches that express their view of contraception or interception. The author of this thesis thinks critically over these thoughts and invites readers to create their own reflection of given problems. He tries to outline a wide range of these problems in the new, wider and often ignored point of view, that is of father's view. A father is often totally ignored during an abortion though he is actually a half-donor of...

Problematika ukončení těhotenství / Issue of AbortionVáňa, Miroslav January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis is aimed at an induced abortion issue and it considers it a bioethical issue. The author refers to a difference between views of theological and biological sciences that deal with the given issue. Simultaneously it provides a reader with an essential outline of basic embryological and medical processes which enable understanding of the given issue. On the one hand, the thesis presents a reader legal essentials related to the given topic in a historical legal context, on the other hand it does not ignore a contemporary development. It regards the given issue from a point of view of various Christian churches, although it does not work in a field of theology. It refers to negative health consequences of a miscarriage and induced abortion and simultaneously it presents basic information about contraception and about contraceptive and abortive means. The thesis also presents a reader with opinions and moral norms of selected Christian churches that express their opinions on abortion, contraception and interception. The author reflects upon the given moral norms. One of the aims of the thesis is to find a suitable way of presenting the moral norms in the field of induced abortion and interception so that the reason and consciousness of the individual were respected. Embryo Adoption: Implications of Personhood, Marriage, and ParenthoodMcMillen, Brooke Marie 14 April 2008 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / One’s personal claims regarding personhood will influence his moral belief regarding embryo adoption. In Chapter One, I consider the personhood of the human embryo. If the human embryo is a person, we are morally obligated to permit the practice of embryo adoption as an ethical means to save human persons. However, for those who do not claim that an embryo is a person at conception, embryo adoption is not a necessary practice because we have no moral obligation to protect them. There are still others who claim that personhood is gained at some point during gestation when certain mental capacities develop. I offer my own claim that consciousness and sentience as well as the potential to be self-conscious mark the beginning of personhood.
Embryo adoption raises several questions surrounding the institution of marriage. Due to its untraditional method of procreation, embryo adoption calls into question the role of procreation within marriage. In Chapter Two, I explore the nature of the marriage relationship by offering Lisa Cahill’s definition of marriage which involves both a spiritual and physical dimension, and then I describe the concept of marriage from different perspectives including a social, religious, and a personal perspective. From a personal perspective, I explore the relationship between marriage and friendship. Finally, I describe how the concept of marriage is understood today and explore the advantages to being married as opposed to the advantages of being single.
Embryo adoption changes the way we customarily think about procreation within a family because in embryo adoption, couples are seeking an embryo from another union to be implanted into the woman. This prompts some philosophers to argue that embryo adoption violates the marriage relationship. In Chapter Three, I further consider the impact of embryo adoption on the family as an extension of the marital relationship as well as the impact of embryo adoption on the traditional roles of motherhood and fatherhood. I examine motherhood by looking at how some philosophers define motherhood and when these philosophers claim a woman becomes a mother. After considering these issues regarding motherhood, I examine the same issues surrounding fatherhood.

John of Damascus and heresiology: a basis for understanding modern heresyMushagalusa, Timothee Baciyunjuze 04 1900 (has links)
This study investigates the understanding of heresy and the heretic according to John of
Damascus. For him, a heretic was any Christian who, by wilful choice, departs from the
one orthodox tradition by adopting a personal opinion on the common faith which he
intends to institute as sole truth. Our research is divided into two parts and aims to apply
John of Damascus' understanding of the recurring identity of the Christian heretic and his
behaviour.
By using historical-theological, interdisciplinary and diachronical approaches, our
research demonstrates that this Church Father, who is the `seal of the patristic era,'
remains a relevant authority for our comprehension of heresy and the heretic. Through
two case studies, namely, the Dutch Reformed Churches and Apartheid, and
Kimbanguism, our study specifies, on the one hand how a distorted Christian confession
contributed to the rise of Apartheid, with its attendant sense of a theocracy,
predestination, election, supremacy, divine love and justice. Kimbanguism, on the other
hand, represents a heresy against its will. It is an example of Christian leaders who
abused their power to apply cultural elements that resulted in a dramatic misinterpretation
of the Christian dogma of the Trinity. Finally, our study intends to apply the notions of
wilful choice, obstinacy and fanaticism, libertine exegesis, personal opinion and orthodox
tradition or common faith, to portray a heretic by using an interdisciplinary approach:
theologically as a libertine-exegete, psychologically as a dogmatic and fanatic person,
and sociologically as a negative cultural reformer. Thus, our analysis is both historical
and theological, and clearly and substantially elucidates the heretical mind in modern
times.
Consequently, our inquiry may be summed up as follows. Firstly, heresy habitually
comes from an existing text, doctrine or discipline; secondly, it concerns people who are
originally Christians; thirdly, it demonstrates that a heretic may be a fervent and an educated Christian, a layman or a church leader, who, on the basis of wilful choice,
interprets Biblical texts freely, with his personal exegesis and hermeneutics, and
ultimately incorrectly. From this exegesis and hermeneutics he deduces and sustains a
new doctrine that he defends with obstinacy and fanaticism. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / D. Div. (Church History)

Gestalt guidelines assisting mine worker fathers living in Oranjemund to enhance a dialogical relationship with their children in middle childhoodBinneman, Simone 02 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to develop Gestalt guidelines for mine worker fathers living in Oranjemund in order to enhance a dialogical relationship with their children in middle childhood. The researcher made use of the first four stages of the Design and Development model of intervention research. These stages include problem analysis and project planning, information gathering and synthesis, design and the early development of the guidelines. For the purpose of this study, focus groups were conducted with father participants and semi-structured interviews were conduct with children participants. The research study was based on existential dialogue with the focus on four main themes, namely; commitment to dialogue, presence, inclusion and confirmation. Existing literature from Gestalt approach, middle childhood and culture was used together with functional elements of other existing parent child relationship and family programmes or models, to develop the guidelines. / Social Work / M. Four fathers' expeiences of parental alienationHenig, Leonie Fanny 22 November 2013 (has links)
During the past few decades there has been a breakdown in the commitment to long term relationships, with no fault divorce laws making it easier for couples to obtain a divorce resulting in increase in divorce rates. Research has shown that in acrimonious divorces with high levels of conflict children often get caught in the middle of their parents’ enduring battles. These children are often prevented from or encouraged not to have contact with their non residential parent. The term parental alienation is used to describe this phenomenon. A qualitative study focusing on the personal experiences of South African fathers who seem to be victims of parental alienation, will be examined and discussed from the perspective of systems theory. / Psychology / M.A. ( Psychology)

The Representation of Hispanic Females in Gifted and Talented and Advanced Placement Programs in a Selected North-Central Texas Public High SchoolBrown, Monty 05 1900 (has links)
Analysis of a particular north-central Texas public high school revealed a strong representation of Hispanic females in advanced academic programs, i.e., AP and GT in proportion to their representation in the overall student population. Research seems to indicate that a progressive approach to academic-potential identification; culturally effective mentoring, traditional Hispanic values, and newly emerging personal and social characteristics all seem to be contributing factors. This study seems to indicate that a new type of Hispanic female is emerging who is more assertive academically, more visible in the classroom, and less marriage-and-family oriented as might be believed by teachers, society, their peers, and perhaps even their parents.
