In it, I propose, in general terms, to analyze the discursive practices present in narratives of black male and female teachers when they look for their social insertion into different social contexts, identifying outbreaks of resistance that are present in their process of ethnicracial identities. The fundamental issue that permeates the survey investigates: how can black male and female teachers behave discursively in the construction of ethnicracial identities in multiple distinct contexts? The theoretical foundations that support this research work come from theoretical fields that complement each other; among them, French Discourse Analysis, Foucault s Theory and cultural studies. These, even with their singularities, are being interlaced by the conception that conceives language as social practice. Methodologically, I adopt an interpretative and qualitative paradigm to examine not only the linguistic repertoires that compose these teachers written narratives written but also the data that were generated by semi-structured interviews. The results show that the subjects, realizing contrary forces that interfere in their process of social inclusion, make use of acetic techniques to (re)signify the history of their lives / Nessa pesquisa em que discuto a constitui??o discursiva de identidades ?tnicorraciais de docentes negros e negras, parto da compreens?o de que o processo de forma??o identit?ria do sujeito abrange tanto a ?rea pessoal/familiar quanto ? social/profissional.

Carrières d'enseignantes d'Education Physique en Irlande : approche socio-anthropologique / Female Physical Education teachers’ careers in Ireland : social and anthropological approach

Awaïda Carton, Élise 28 November 2017 (has links)
Our research project is a sociological investigation into the careers of physical education (PE) teachers in Ireland. Our enquiry focuses firstly on an enhanced analysis of the literature within the context of the newly established Republic of Ireland. Secondly, it draws on extensive qualitative interviews of female PE teachers which reveal women teachers lacking legitimization within their own profession. It does this by setting standards rooted in the notion of the perfect athlete, supported by input from the military and medical worlds. This in turn is subject to the interdependence of the Catholic Church and the state. H.S Becker’s approach to the concept of career allows for a diachronic and synchronic interpretation of the data collected. Here, the choices made by the female PE teacher and the rationale behind them are clarified. This enquiry also aims to understand the development of womanhood in its varied forms when both the educational environment and the body are subject to religious tradition. We therefore developed a typology (Max Weber) of our respondents' careers and identified a ‘stable’ type of career, a ‘breaking’ type and a ‘progressive’ one. Our findings here suggest an ambivalence in the careers of PE teachers in Ireland – characterised first by a transgression of gender norms when practising sports. However, through their commitment, female PE teachers have achieved a tenacious spirit in the face of gender stereotypes and their influence on education.

Capability Approach and Teacher Quality: An Analysis of Female Teacher Experience in a Rural, Malawian Community

Hardy, Annabelle 01 May 2019 (has links) (PDF)
This study used the capability approach as a lens to understand teacher quality from both the perspective of educational leaders and practicing teachers in a rural community in central Malawi. The overarching question of this research study was “How can the capability approach inform our understanding of teacher quality from both the perspective of educational leaders and practicing teachers?” The focus questions to guide this research were: What do national educational leaders value in a quality teacher? What do rural, Malawian, female teachers value in teaching? How do these teachers pursue and achieve what they value in teaching? This study included qualitative data collection and analysis of two specific contexts: the official context of educational leadership and educational policy in Malawi and the teacher context of daily life working in a rural school in Malawi. The official context was concerned with the larger field of educational policy that impacts education in rural Malawian communities. These data were collected through document review and semi-structured interviews with educational leaders at primary schools, secondary schools, school zone leaders, and teacher training college staff. Additional data about the official context were collected via review of documents regarding the official definition of quality teaching. The research site for investigating the teacher context was a rural community in the central region of Malawi. Data were collected through interviews and observation of female, primary school teachers from four school sites within a single school zone. The discussion and analysis of the data collected in both research contexts include the values of teacher participants, the ability of the teachers to achieve their valued functionings, common constraints experienced by teachers, as well as comparison of the valued functions of teachers to the valued teacher functions defined by official documents and educational leaders. The discussion and conclusions from this research include policy recommendations regarding teacher quality and thoughts on the further application of the capability approach to understanding teacher quality.

The women mentioned in this paper are pedagogy students at Vale do Itajaí University, and they are also mothers, wives, girlfriends, and daughters; women who play different roles in their everyday lives and whose usual procedures have become the target of this research. The object of this paper is to understand how their everyday roles and chores interfere on their way of teaching as well as on their way of solving family conflicts, especially regarding those situations where public and private scenarios are not well defined. It also regards male/female situations being build on regular basis; using gender as an analytical filter according to recent theories and methodologies. Analyzing their speech one can see how they try to break already established situations by adopting simple usual tactics and procedures. By doing so, these teachers have been transforming their university into a place for freedom.

In Ceará, its relevant role is so notorious that it became a tradition to the society since its foundation in 1884. The main objective of this PhD research is to understand how the education of the first female primary teachers happened from 1958 to 1960 in Fatima neighborhood. The specific objectives are: keep track of the arrival of the Normal School in that neighborhood, knowing the perspectives of the “normalistas” about this change, including the building and the school´s around; to know the educational curriculum of the course, trying to understand its pedagogical aspects in relation to the institution´s the purpose: primary teachers education; to understand the class planning as well as the teaching practice preparation and to figure out what studying in the Normal School means to them, trying to understand the place that institution occupied in the normalistas’ memories. In the theoretical approach, the following concepts were used: (i) tradition, from the authors Hobsbawm (1997) and Balandier (1997); (ii) teacher education, highlighting the authors Lima (1966), Arroyo (2000), Fontana (2005), Nóvoa (1992), Novaes (1992) and (iii) Normal School: Silva (2009; 2001), Carvalho (1998), Olinda (2005), Holanda (2001). Beyond those authors, we searched in documental sources, Brazilian educational legislation and newspapers. About the methodology, the research was classified as qualitative and case study using semitructured interviews and testimonials with sixteen (16) subject of which ten (10) normalistas: two (2) of the 2nd class and eight (8) of the 3rd class; the husband of a “normalista”; the Colonel Pergentino Maia’s grandson; the director of the intermediary public file; the current director and 2 (two) institution employees. The results showed that although the “normalistas” had experienced major challenges during the course, such as the move to a building under renovations, the neighborhood still being structured, and the educational context reformulating guidelines for the Normal School (1958-1959), we conclude that the tradition of graduating in the Normal School cearense, prevailed because it was the primary institution in the education of teachers for the initial courses.

Longhini, Iara Maria Mora 15 December 2011 (has links)
This study aimed to relate the life stories of teachers of biology, his professional knowledge and their teaching practices to the different political and educational contexts faced by this area of knowledge in the period 1960 to 2010. The research was based on the biographical narrative, using life history as a methodological resource in the field of qualitative educational research. The nine contributors were professors of biology, in post-graduate master's and / or PhD, acting or acted professionally in different geographical regions of the country. Some are graduated in Natural History; other in Biological Sciences - full or short form degree, considering the socio-political contexts of the time. The curriculum of training of some teachers reveal the model of technical rationality. The choice expressed by the area of biology is so diverse: from the love of nature, to the influence of some people, like parents and teachers, for example. Since the choice of teaching happened for reasons ranging from obtaining financial resources for realization of a dream. The continuing education of the study participants occurred in post-graduation lato or sensu stricto in in-service training courses or through partnerships between institutions of higher education and basic education schools. Most of these acts, or has served in teaching in the area of higher education with teacher training. Entry into the teaching profession has caused feelings of loneliness and insecurity. With regard to the curriculum of the discipline, the average level of basic education, we identified different positions, from those who underwent uncritically to its rules, even those who always questioned. Some teachers indicated the influence of the American project Biological Science Curriculum Study, others indicated the textbook as the main feature of the curriculum. Demonstrations about the end of his career teaching varied. Recorded feelings of relief, mainly to free themselves of bureaucracy; considerations of this moment as the climax of his career, when they are recognized for their work, as well as the fact that a lot of time steeped in emotion. Thus, the records of our interviewees, considered to be a biology professor in Brazil, the area has its own characteristics, it allows the construction of knowledge and specific practices, but above all, is a professional activity exercised by human beings who are unique and that permeate this profession of personal and professional aspects which are only revealed from their stories and life contexts. Algumas docentes indicaram a influência do projeto americano Biological Science Curriculum Study, outras indicaram o livro didático como principal recurso curricular.
