Hur forskare forskar : hur doktorander använder bibliotek i sitt arbete / How researcher research : how Phd.-Students use libraries in their work

Porath, Jockum January 2013 (has links)
In this bachelor thesis the aim is to explore how university libraries and researchers function together. I will do this through interviews with phd students and examine how they reason on the use of libraries and other resources available in campus and witch other methods they use to gather information. The graduate students differ in where they are with their research process, but all of them work in the field of social sciences. To help me in my analysis I have adopted Wilsons model of information behaviour and modify this to better suit my purpose. My findings show that they mainly use the library to access materials and avoid use of the librarians, due to perception of low usefulness. Also they rely on their own knowledge of information gathering. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Sjölin, Isabelle January 2012 (has links)

Att skapa intersektionalitet : En studie av forskarsubjekt i upprättade arkivhandlingar i Valsgärde arkiv / Creating Intersectionality : A Study of Subjects in Records Created from the Valsgärde Archive

Lindström, Jenny January 2015 (has links)
This study aims to gain an understanding on how researchers leave their mark on archaeological records and to discuss what this have meant for the production of archaeological knowledge. This was done by studying archival records from two archaeological excavations of boat graves in Valsgärde, which was held in 1936 and 1950. Starting with the relation between creator/researcher and records made the idea was to contribute with a study of the relationship between records and creator. The theories being used for analyzing this was intersectionality combined with Donna Haraways situated knowledges, where created interacting categories in the material was analyzed in relation to each researcher. Both researchers material where further discussed whis this in mind. The main method used was qualitative content analysis, wich were also combined with a quantitative method of the number of records created with the same content. Through these methods interacting categoriers was found in the archaeological documentation. The created interacting categories in one material consisted of documentation of archaeological remains in situ, documentation of single finds and documentation of archaeological stratigraphy. Further three interacting categories of documentation after excavation, of weapons and single finds was found in the same material. In comparision, the other records consisted of interacting categories of documentation of archaeological remains in situ, documentation of the contex of the findings and documentation of archaeological stratigraphy. This showed how the reseachers in the studied records have left their marks on the archaeological documentation of each boat grave. The researches had desicive impact on the produced knowledge that was based on their findings, since the records that were created were created were influenced by each researcher. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

Electronic Journals, Just in Case, Just in Time, Just for You : användning av elektroniska tidskrifter vid Chalmers tekniska högskola / Electronic Journals, Just in Case, Just in Time, Just for You : Usage of Electronic Journals at Chalmers University of Technology

Andersson, Hanna-Kari, Leden Nilsson, Helén January 2000 (has links)
This user study was carried out at the library at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg in the spring of 1999. Chalmers wanted to investigate how much their employees use electronic journals. To facilitate decision-making and be cost effective, the library needed to know about their customers' opinions. The main purpose was to investigate the usage of electronic journals, how the library's choice of these journals affects the frequency of use and what the attitudes towards them are. A questionnaire was sent out to 2 400 employees; 477 replies were received. The result shows that 55% of the respondents use electronic journals at least once a month. The major advantages of electronic journals are, according to the study, the easy access and the option to work from one's own desk. The major disadvantage is the difficulty in scanning them. Two thirds of the respondents are willing to let go of the print journal at the library in favour of the electronic one, but only one fifth are willing to give up their departmental subscriptions. For a majority, conditions such as user friendliness and archiving must be fulfilled before electronic journals can be fully accepted. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Forskares informationsanvändning och informationsbeteende : En Information Audit på ”Forskningsbolaget” / Scientists information use and information behavior : An Information Audit at ”Forskningsbolaget”

Andén, Sofie January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this Master’s Thesis is to examine the information use and information behavior of the scientists at the company ”Forskningsbolaget”. For this purpose an Information Audit was carried out using both interviews with six managers and a questionnaire, which was sent out to the entire population of 213 scientists. After finding out what information the scientists use and how they obtain it the aim was to answer the question of to what extent the company’s Information Centre can meet these needs. The theoretical framework consists of Information management with focus on Choo’s Information management cycle. The result of this study shows that the information use to some extent differ in each division of the company. Printed scientific journals are the number one source of information used by the scientists and it’s also the most obtained source from the Information centre. Many of the scientists would like to have access to a wider range of e-journals as lack of time is an issue. In search for new information the scientists turn to the Internet as their first choice and Google is widely used. The study revealed information gaps which combined with the low use of the library indicate that the Information Centre needs to make itself and its products more visible in the organization. Another issue to consider is the impact that the fee-based system has on the use of the library. The organization also needs to communicate its view on information throughout the company, for instance by formulating an information policy.

Karlsson, Erik January 2011 (has links)
In my thesis, I set out to study academic peer reviews in the hope of clarifying the experts’ views on what qualities and qualifications are desirable when appointing or promoting scholars within History of Science. I also investigate whether or not these views change over the years, as I have studied opinions written between 1980 and 2010. I use a qualitative method of analysis, in which I study what words in the peer reviews are used to describe certain values, and how these words relate to the historical and political background of History of Science in Sweden. My research indicates that academic experts are starting to adapt their opinions to the change in educational politics that has taken place during the second half of the 20th century. The Swedish system of academic peer review is also showing signs of possible decline in certain areas. However, the change in what qualities and qualifications are highly esteemed by the experts has, in many ways, been slow and many values remain the same throughout the studied years.

Friberg, Linnéa, Thordstein, Anna January 2015 (has links)
During the last years the scientific communication has undergone a series of changes. As a result new and different forms of publication and distribution of research has seen the light of day, one of these is open access. Open access as a concept was introduced in the beginning of the 21 ́st century. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine what ideas of open access are present in the academic libraries of Sweden. Furthermore we will look at what different roles librarians, researches and research funders are given. The theory and method chosen for this essay is based upon the critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough, with a focus on linguistic aspects of texts as well as the surrounding context, which the texts both influence and are influenced by. By applying linguistic tools two discourses where distinguished on a superior level, the democracy discourse and the market discourse. Between these two discourses there is a battle for hegemony. Within the two discourses there are also several internal discourses present. The internal discourses are not necessarily at odds with each other, they are rather seen as different aspects that together construct their superior discourses.

Svenska på schemat : högstadieelevers uppfattningar om svenskämnet

Persson, Gun January 2014 (has links)
