The problem of strong quasi-static magnetic field generation is a challenge in laser-plasma interaction physics. Proposed 30 years ago, the use of the laser-driven capacitor-coil scheme, which stands out for its compact design while not needing any additional pulsed power source besides the laser power, only recently demonstrated its potential. This thesis work aims at characterizing the underlying physics and at developing this scheme. We demonstrated the generation of strong quasi-static magnetic fields by laser (500 J, 1 ns-duration and ~10^17 W/cm^2 intensity) of several hundreds of Teslas and duration of 2-3 ns. The B-field space- and time-evolutions were characterized using three independent diagnostics: B-dot probes, Faraday rotation and proton-deflectometry). The characterization of the underlying physical processes involved also X-ray diagnostics of the laser-irradiated zone and optical shadowgraphy of the coil rod expansion.A novel application of externally applied magnetic fields to guide relativistic electron beam in dense matter has been carried out and the obtained results set the ground for improved high-energy-density transport in matter. Indeed, allowing sufficient time for the dense target magnetization, a factor 5 improvement of the electron energy-density flux at 50µm-depth was evidenced.Besides, the generation of high discharge currents consecutive to short laser pulse irradiation (50 J, <1 ps-duration and ~10^19 W/cm^2 intensity) was also pointed out. Proton imaging of the discharge permitted to measure the propagation of an electromagnetic wave at a velocity close to the speed of light. This wave, of ~40ps-duration, was used as an electromagnetic lens to focalize and energy-select a narrow energy range within a multi-MeV proton beam (up to 12 MeV) passing through the coil.All-above experimental measurements and application results were thoroughly compared to both computer simulations and analytic modeling. The applications of this thesis work in a near future will concern:- inertial confinement fusion, by guiding relativistic electron beams up to the dense core nuclear fuel, and by confining particles depositing their energy in it, or even those resulting from the fusion reactions;- laboratory planetology and astrophysics, by generating secondary sources of energetic particles and radiation to reach the warm-dense-matter state or by magnetizing plasmas to reproduce astrophysical phenomena in scaled experiments;- and finally, the control of charged particle beams in vacuum, useful in particular for the development of laser-driven sources for distant applications in science, industry or even medecine.

This study aims to reveal the singularities of the production of health care from the perspective of the patient in a First Care Unit (UPA). It also intends to contribute to the discussion on the history and development of the urgency and emergency network in the city of Rio de Janeiro and some of the challenges faced by the emergency units in providing such care. We affirm the definition of health webs as dynamic webs that go beyond their institutionalized definition to the establishment of a live and powerful web that is capable of supporting the attended population on its ways through urgency and emergency units of the city. The study is developed through a methodology of research-intervention, drawing cartographies of the First Care Unit from the narratives of the workers of the unit and of a ‘guiding patient’. This ‘guide’ reveals the production of care in his ‘live web’. Considering the social-affective death of the patient in the health services, we propose the method of the Social – Affective Autopsy. This methodological proposal is built from the psycho-social autopsy, a reconstruction of the physical and mental health status, and social, psychological and affective circumstances of the patient through the production of care in the process of health-disease-care-death through the web of the Unified Health Care System (SUS). Revealing the dynamics and intersections of the patient’s living web we can understand the singularities and subjectivities of his vision on the production of care. Our objective was to analyze the production of care in the Urgent (First Care - UPA) and Emergency Care Units, involving administrators, workers and patients. We describe the experiences in the UPA foccusing on innovations in the production of health care as seen by the patients, taking into account the technological tools of health work, mainly the interfaces of soft technology in the urgency and emergency services of the SUS. The cartographic developments present the living territories of the UPA and the multiplicity of its workers and patients. We present the singularities of health care in urgency and emergency from the narrative of the patient-guide’s wife and of female workers of the UPA. Fissures of the health care web are revealed, the multiplicity of the existential territory of the patients, and the disputes to warrant the right to health care. Innovations in the field of soft technologies developed by the workers of the UPA are pointed out, as well as their perceptions on the patient schedule regulation system (SISREG). Finally, the socioaffective death of the patient also enters in dispute on the production of care, by the health services network that is unable to give a diagnose to the patients partner, as well as by his living that is rebuilt with the mediation of faith-based actions and religious support groups

Cartographie unifiée de la dynamique des solitons dans les guides d'onde à fibre optique / Unified mapping of the dynamics of solitons in fiber-optic waveguidesTchomgo Felenou, Emmanuel 27 June 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the dynamical behaviour of solitons which are affected, when entering a fiber-optic waveguide, by a slight distortion of profile as compared to the stationary profile in the guide. Our theoretical model combines the propagation equation of the electric field (Non-Linear Schrödinger Equation) and the system of equations of evolution of the physical parameters of the pulse (derived from the collective coordinates theory). We establish a general mapping which reveals an unsuspected diversity of dynamic behaviour around the stationary state of the pulse, in relation with the initial perturbation of the pulse's profile. This mapping establishes a classification of solitons in two broad categories, which correspond to light pulses that generate radiation during their propagation and to non-radiating pulses, respectively. Within each of these two broad classes of pulses, we demonstrate the existence of different kinds of atypical behaviour, which we qualify as hyperthermic solitons (hot solitons), hypothermic solitons (cold solitons) and isothermic solitons, which correspond respectively to pulses that propagate in a highly stable manner with an energy level higher than, lower than, and equal to the energy of the stationary state. On the borders of the domains of existence of these various types of solitons, we find hybrid behaviours, corresponding to solitons that cool during propagation, due to a significant loss of energy caused by an intense radiation, and which change state (from hyperthermia to hypothermia, or from isothermal to hypothermia). Finally, the radiation emitted by a light pulse is not identified as being a continual process, but rather as a ball of energy emitted in the beginning of propagation, and its suppression in the waveguide is considered as practicable

Intervensienavorsing as toegepaste navorsing is hiervoor aangewend.<p[> ’n Tweefase-navorsingsbenadering is gebruik. ENGLISH: Families that are confronted with a toddler with a visual impairment have multiple needs that require a holistic approach in order to address this complex problem effectively. However, no research has been done yet that looks at the needs of the South African parent with a toddler with a visual impairment in order to develop a specialized, empirically grounded parental guiding programme. This study thus aimed at developing a guiding programme for parents with a toddler with a visual impairment and evaluating its effectiveness. Interventional research as applied research was utilised for this purpose. A two-phase research approach was used. During phase one a qualitative approach was used. The following research question was formulated during this phase: What are the needs of the South African parent with a toddler with a visual impairment? A focus-group discussion where focus-group questions were used was held with 10 parents in order to explore the meaning and interpretation that they attach to their daily world. These data, in addition to the wide-ranging literature study that had been undertaken, brought information to the fore that was used in the parental guiding programme. Answers to the research question could thus be found. The quantitative design that was followed during phase two was the single-system design. The following research hypothesis was formulated during this phase: If the parents of a toddler with a visual impairment follow the parental guiding programme, they will be empowered with knowledge with regard to their child’s specific eye condition, its influence on and their management of the child concerned, their marriage and their family. The social-work interventional programme that was developed consists of six group-work sessions of approximately 60 minutes each that were held for two groups of 10 parents in total. A self-designed questionnaire was completed by these 10 parents before and after the programme. This measuring instrument confirmed the above-mentioned hypothesis. Comparisons were made between literature and the empirical data. Conclusions and recommendations for future research were formulated following on this study. / Thesis (DPhil)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Social Work and Criminology / unrestricted

Giving and stewardship in border black Baptist churchesZanekile, Nkolelo 20 September 2011 (has links)
In this thesis, the Researcher argues that the Border Black Baptist Churches form two-thirds of the membership of the Border Baptist in the Association. The researcher is concerned that they are growing in numbers but declining in finances. This problem is affecting the body of Jesus Christ locally, nationally and globally. It does not end there but the Great Commission (Matt 28:16-20) has also been affected. My personal interest is to show that Border Black Baptist Churches are not necessarily poor but need some kind of profound teaching and motivation. It means that in the Border/Amathole region we need self-propagating, self-supporting, self-governing and self- theologizing within our own culture. We need to see that the tithing system is God’s plan for giving. It is instituted by God and encompasses His promises, only if we obey Him. In the Border Black Baptist Churches there is also a need to see that freewill offerings are part and parcel of God’s plan for financial giving and stewardship. It means that giving to God must be seen as Creation, Sowing and Reaping Principles. My research methodology includes interviews, questionnaires and study of the relevant literature. The reason for this research is to bring clarity about financial giving and stewardship in these Churches. The whole purpose is to see financially matured Border Black Baptist Churches in this region. / Dissertation (MA(Theol))--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

This thesis proposes a new method to perform cold neutral atom guiding. This method involves the use of resonance radiation pressure to make the atom guiding along a hollow (beam) optical field. Particularly, it uses the optical dipole force and a specific type of non-diffracting optical field, called "Frozen Wave" (FW), in these traditional and extended versions, to study the atom guiding. The FW¿s optical fields, which are an exact solution of the wave equation, appear as an answer to the problems related to the high diffraction and impossibility of any type of longitudinal and transverse intensity modeling (or location) of traditional optical fields used in atom guiding, for example the Laguerre-Gaussian and Bessel optical fields. Thus, some solutions were planned by the traditional and extended methods, which allow to create localized light structures resistant to diffraction and model a priori longitudinal and transverse (restricted) intensity pattern. Accordingly, the theoretical study of the traditional method and his generalization were carried out with their experimental evidence. Also, his respective optical dipole potential was calculated with the atom penetration depth in the potential barrier for each optical field. In the results was possible to model some light structures (both in the traditional and extended method) such as a cylinder, three concatenated cylinders, one cylinder with a lid and an optical funnel, among others; and it is showed the advantages of using this type of light structures when it is compared with the conventional optical fields for the atom guiding. Finally, it is concluded that use this type of non-diffracting fields eliminates the restrictions of the traditional fields and it is possible the cold neutral atoms guiding with this type of light structures. The FW¿s extended method gives a generalization and it permits to suggest this type of light structures for more complete applications in different areas of optics and photonics / Doutorado / Física / Doutor em Ciências / 141977/2013-2 / CNPQ

Les principes directeurs du procès civil dans l'Espace judiciaire européen / The guiding principles of civil trial in the European justice areaReichling, Noemie 29 November 2017 (has links)
Since the Treaty of Amsterdam entered into force on the 1st of May 1999 and the “communitarisation” of judicial cooperation in civil matters, the European Union has adopted many legal instruments relating to cross-border litigation, to the extent that one can now refer to a distinct “European International Private Law”, the governing principles of which have yet to be defined. By comparison, the French Code of Civil Procedure includes an entire chapter devoted to the governing principles applicable to civil trials. Based on a study of the European civil justice area, four governing principles can be identified: the adversarial principle, the principle of the judge’s active role, the principle of urgency and the principle of cross-border dialogue. In prospective terms, it follows that the possibility of these four principles’ being enacted in EU law is a matter worthy of examination. Several obstacles can be identified, none of which appears to be insuperable. Having been recognised as a possibility, such a consecration also seems desirable on the grounds of its several demonstrable advantages. The legal basis and vehicle of the above-mentioned four principles’ legal enshrinement remain to be determined. In this regard, article 81 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, pertaining to judicial cooperation in civil matters, couldserve as a legal basis. In terms of implementation, this study also argues in favor of regulations over directives.

Factors affecting digital transformation in manufacturing companiesEluekezi Nnewuku, Rosa, Tuncay, Hatice January 2021 (has links)
The adoption of digital transformation can be seen as the companies opportunity for increased competitiveness. The possibilities of digital transformation are many as it allows, among other things, a connection between workers and machines or between machines. However, companies are facing difficulties to implement digital transformation effectively. Implementing digital transformation is a slow process for companies and most companies are in the early stages of it. Also, the technologies that are associated with digital transformation are still unclear. Companies still lack a systematic approach to implementing digital transformation. Understanding critical factors that affect digital transformation in manufacturing companies could help to develop a systematic approach for implementing digital transformation. Therefore, in this research the authors have carefully reviewed and identified factors that affect digital transformation within the manufacturing industry. This thesis research aims to identify the factors that will lead to the success of digital transformation in manufacturing companies and to also find out the factors that when being ignored will lead to unsuccessfulness. The research has been guided by three research questions: 1) Which factors are stated in the literature that is affecting the implementation of digital transformation in manufacturing companies, 2) How are these factors related to each other in the literature, and 3) How can practitioners and academics use factors for the successful implementation of digital transformation? In this research, a systematic literature review (SLR) has been carried out which has led to identifying 11 key factors. Based on the identified factors, a model has been developed to support the implementation of digital transformation in manufacturing companies. The model consists of four different categories of factors, namely, “Awareness related factors, Readiness related factors, Technology, Selection, and Integration related factors (so-called ARTO-model. Furthermore, a survey has been developed to get experts´ perspectives on the identified factors and the model. Based on the input from the survey, a final compiled ARTO model is proposed as a guiding tool for the successful implementation of digital transformation. Further, a model to show the relationship between the factors is created. Keywords: Digital transformation, Digitalization, Industry 4.0, Enabling technologies, Key factors, Critical factors, Manufacturing industry, Guiding framework / Implementeringen av digital transformation kan ses som företags möjlighet till ökad konkurrenskraft. / The French Girl Guides Federation, Éclaireuses (FFE), founded in 1921 and disbanded in 1964, is the first Girl Guiding Movement in France.
